I loved how much Vhagar hesitated to burn Laena, that's 2/3 dragon riders who died young. She's just a lonely old granny dragon.
Very sad situation for sure.
When the King was in the same situation, he asked would the child survive. Daemon asked would the mother survive. It's very subtle but when the maester was asking Daemon, he shook his head, no. Then gazed over at Laena. In the show it appears that Laena immediatley left that room and went to the beach, but it makes more sense that a little time had passed. That's why Daemon came out looking for her, and then his reaction when he actually seen her die. Daemon did not dislike this wife like he did the 'bronze bitch'.
Cannot wait for the next few episodes from you guys. This show gets even better if you can believe that.

Glad you pointed that out. I've seen so many reactors think he had ordered the doctor to cut her open and that's why she went out to Vhagar, but he clearly shook his head no and Laena had just chosen to die via fire rather than probably bleed to death or die from infection (the baby in the books was stillborn anyway so he wouldn't have lived in any event). Daemon might not have been in love with Laena but he DID care about her.
I loved how you caught that the beginning scene was one take!

The dragon Aemond snuck up on in the pit, was Dreamfyre, Helaena's dragon (and reputedly the literal mother of Danaerys' dragons.
That's pretty cool. Love that insight.

4:40 - he got a better doctor. Mellos insisted on leechings but after he died Orwyle got promoted to Grand Maester and he actually believed in using “medicine”
Supposedly when Orwyle took over the king got better. I heard that's what the books stated.

And Laenor’s mother Rhaenys has a Baratheon mother - Baratheons are prone to be black of hair, it is known (Rhaenys actually had black hair in her youth - it turned silver-gray in older age)

He pines for it - the human heart in conflict with itself. Oh the Prince of Pentos didn't want to marry a daughter just the services of their dragons; remember he politely declined.

rhaenyra did try to have kids with laenor and she couldn't. she didn't really have a choice. as future queen they needed heirs, and in the books they have less place to question it because laenor isn't black and rhaenys has dark hair

I like how they played on that dynamic. Since the Rhaeny's hair isn't sliver and Laenor isn't mix I'm sure the books did a good job hinting at the problem. I love that, with the change in the show, they played on the looks a lot more. If you had Stevie Wonder's eyes you would still have known that was not Laenor's kids. LMAO!!!

Technically, the boys aren't bastards because they've been recognized as Velaryons by the King, Corlys, and Leanor. That's all that matters (and they're Targs, to boot).

They haven't been recognized as legitimate. That's a bold faced lie. Denying that they aren't bastards isn't the same as legitimizing them. To legitimize them would take a royal decree, and Viserys would first have to admit they're bastards which never did once.
I hope you let your Lady take a minute when she was in her feelings. Some of those scenes were quite emotional. Really great early spot that dude was going to kill his Dad and Brother. Nice reaction.

The issue of the boys' legitimacy based on appearance was far more ambiguous in the books. In the books Velaryons are pale-skinned with the violet/blue eyes and the silver/gold Valyrian hair. Rhaenyra's mother was dark-haired and Rhaenys (Laenor and Laena's mother) had the Baratheon black hair (she's half-Baratheon). Making it far more plausible that the three Strong boys *could* be Laenor's (even though Laenor's preferences were still widely known). Also remember that Jon Snow is literally half-Targaryen like Rhaenyra's sons and also got the dark rather than silver hair (good for him, otherwise Robert Baratheon would've probably had him killed as soon as he laid eyes on him). Also in fairness to Daemon there WAS a scene of him comforting his daughters after Laena's death but it was cut (I think one of the writers was annoyed at how popular Daemon was becoming despite his amorality).
I heard about that. I heard the show-runners wanted it to be more on the nose in the show. I really want to read the book but now I don’t want to spoil myself as well. So I’ll have to wait until the show is completed.

Surprised that you picked earlier in the episode that Larys was going to murder his father and brother, didn’t think it was that obvious but maybe that was just me🤷♂️
Daemon being a booknerd suddenly is a bit jarring for most, but reading up on ancient dragon lords could be of some benefit in the looming battles ahead possibly 🤔

When the morons running Game of Thrones randomly killed off Missandei for shock value many were offended - not least of which because they ether didn''t notice or care they killed off the ONLY black woman in the entire cast. I was furious at the sheer contrived stupidity of it, but I'm a white male - I know intellectually that killing off the one black female in the cast was offensive, but I can never feel/judge it to the same level. *Was Laena's death also offensive? I hope not because:*
1 - Laena dies in childbirth in the books as well (as opposed to the contrived wicked queen fridging Missandei for shock value in GoT)
2 - While Laena WAS the only black woman on this show, the same episode she dies they introduce her two daughters. Loss of one but gain of two as it shifts to the next generation.
There's a lot of time skips in Season 1....by Season 2 more of the narrative even shifts from the Rhaenyra/Alicent generation to all the children introduced in this episode. While we did lose Laena, her daughters Baela and Rhaena are major characters: they're sort of the Arya and Sansa of this prequel story (Baela's the tough one, Rhaena's the girly one).

This series , everyone is probably getting killed. I think it will make sense you didn’t see anyone in GOT - 200 years later - looking black by then.

@@reactuniversity5277 oh hell no that was the sheer stupidity of Benioff & Weiss cutting out a LOT of subplots and characters: branches of the Velaryons and Hightowers are still "around" during Game of Thrones, they're just not as powerful as they used to be - Margaery Tyrell's mother is a Hightower and she's still alive in the books! The Velaryons side with Stannis. It's sort of like... the Roosevelts and Vanderbilts are still "around" today, the families didn't die out, they're just not as powerful as a century ago. Similarly, the Blackwoods and Brackens are PROMINENT characters in the books, but got totally cut from the TV show....because they were rushing to the ending.
...."Fire and Blood Part One" also ends abruptly a few years after the civil war eventually ends....oh we've got enough material for this show to run seven or eight seasons if they go into the "aftermath" chapters....but EVEN BOOK FANS don't know the ultimate fate of several characters.
Does everyone die? YES......because all humans are _mortal_ -- it's a prequel. :) Other sources in the main novels or sourcebooks written at a later date have given broad clues that "such and such character eventually died of _old age_ " ...or, hinted at tragic deaths that weren't covered in Fire & Blood Part One. The fates of some characters aren't even known to book readers at all.
I truly can't wait to see what happens next. This show gave me hope for TV writers again. Of course, they have great material and foundation to make great Television.
Rhaenyra is heir so of course she had to have kids with someone if her husband wasn't doing HIS PART.
People act like she slept about like Laenor did. She clearly had kids with a man she had a close loving relationship with, someone she trusted. They're Rhaenyra's kids so Visery sees like myself that those kids are Targaryens regardless and sweet lovely smart boys who put Allicents to shame. Rhaenyra and Allicents parenting is like day and night. Allicent has raised her boys badly, filling them with hate, paranoia and resentment towards their sister and nephews.
No Rhaenyra was genuinely offering an ive branch, Allicent is just petty and jealous for turning down that offer. Would have saved House Targaryen.
How is anyone on Allicents side in the books/show, especially if she protect Larys, she'll also be scum.
Rhaenyra made a offer that could prevent more squabbling on who's heir & keep both their kids safer, yet she dismissed it and insulted the kids. I agree with Rhaenyra, her kids are Targaryens thats all that matters, their eggs hatched with them too. I also HATE Sir Criston Cole, hes a bitter, envious, dick, whos actually bullying kids (How he grabbed Jacerys & set him up with Aegon) & not doing his duty at all, honorable not. Cole clearly plays favourites and doesn't seem interested in training Rhaenyra's kids at all, like he's meant to.
It was good when they explained that her and Laenor did try at the beginning. Make sense that she would need to reproduce with someone else since her husband couldn’t. It’s very interesting how Alicent, who suppose to be all about moral and duty, is the one who treat her kids with anger. Her dad filled her up with paranoia and now she is doing that with her kids. Shame!!

@@reactuniversity5277 I've always found her off with her kids as a mother myself. In ep 6 Helaena flinches when Allicent touches her and every scene with Allicent and the kids as babies, the kids are screaming & she seems disinterested, treats her kids as a duty maybe like Otto did with her. It's such a contrast to Rhaenyra who feared motherhood and childbirth, only to be a natural loving mother. She knows her duties and Aegon's prophecy, so she wouldn't want to harm her siblings at all and wouldn't just kill the competition, unlike OTTO who thinks like that. Yes been enjoying ur reactions thanks.
Great point! I wonder if the show-runners was trying to tell us something here with Alicent kids crying all the time. Interesting indeed. Otto is definitely the one to blame here, for sure. He kept feeding her lies.
Alicent is upset not because Rhaenyra had 3 children with Harwin but because she is a better mother than Alicent herself, Alicent was the mother of 4 children and they all have mental problems while Rhaenyra's children are better and more educated than the Alicent's children.

They casted the older actors first then chose the younger versions to look close as possible to them but a lot were either weirded out or upset about the time skip when the whole point is this is where the story actually picks up and plus it wouldn’t makes sense to keep the younger actors who are in their early 20s or 30s with children but I do get why a lot grew an attachment to the younger cast more but I love both in my opinion who did an amazing job! Omg the fact that alicent has the nerve to sit up for 10 years with her lapdog criston who failed his job just to talk shit about rhaenrya is so funny cause he wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for rhaenrya who looked his way!🙄 Alicent became worser than her father sadly, she’s such a hypocrite/self righteous by saying rhanerya is entitled and privileged who claimes she gets away with everything when clearly alicent does too , alicent boo you knew your father overreached his position as hand with his greed and power and tried to undermine your friend for years to make your son heir which were against the kings wishes! But yet she never told the king nor rhaenrya what he was doing, then she vouched for a grown man who literally broke his own oaths by sleeping with a drunken teen who could’ve said no and left that night but didn’t and then he murdered a high honored guest and fought the high noble heir son who is the future king consort?! I don’t understand why the king didn’t give the full reign to the velaryons on dealing with criston Cole, I did felt bad for him but let’s not forget the only reason he wanted to runaway with rhaenrya was to restore his honor so it wasn’t about love for him which says a lot about his character🤨 then alicent literally showed up at her friends engagement by wearing her house colors as a sign that you are against her like really alicent? I get that she felt betrayed but you did the same with rhaenrya since you never told her why you were visiting the king behind her back not that I am blaming her when she was obviously forced but she knew her dad was wrong since day 1 but never said anything because her loyalty was always gonna be with her dad and their house which of course I understand but she really can’t point the finger to the person for some of the same things she’s done as well! Then she chose to use her privileged when it suited her as queen to bully , shame, antagonize rhaenrya for years and yet she’s the one fearing for her children’s lives? If that’s the case why would you do all those things instead of trying to find a positive or peaceful outcome or maybe try to establish a good bonding relationship with their eldest sibling so when the time comes they are standing together united as one supporting and protecting each other against whoever dares to go against them even if a potential war still happens they have each other and plus we have never seen rhaenrya have any ill intentions or evil plans to kill her siblings when she wasn’t raised like that and is all about family so alicent fell for her fathers manipulation , rhaenrya moved on with her life who has her own family to worry about while alicent is still stuck at the restaurant aka living in the past and can’t let her anger/hurt go for rhaenrya, the fact that she as a mother herself demanded another vulnerable mother to have her newborn baby to be taken away just minutes after he’s born to be given to a hostile woman who doesn’t even like his mother nor her children which was so low of her for doing that I don’t care!And her Stan’s believe she did nothing wrong this entire time or in that scene which is insane! Alicent gives all the men grace and leeway when she knows they are terrible but can’t do that when it comes to rhaenrya, she knew the pig prank was her oldest son aegon who was the ring leader and tried to blame rhaenrya’s children then indulged his behavior by saying it’s ok to bully his little brother at home in private whenever but out in public he needs to stand up for him which is crazy then trauma dumps that he will be killed by his sister if he doesn’t fight for his right to be heir which no 14 year old child should ever have to hear that stuff and aegon doesn’t even care about being king but sadly alicent is pinning her own children against their oldest sibling along with her kids who were literally fine 😅😭 alicent is mad that she follows the rules and did her duty even if it has scorned her many times and expected this is the way for all women especially rhaenrya who she thought was gonna be on the same boat but realized wrong but that doesn’t mean rhaenrya doesn’t suffer as well like it hurts to know these two young girls were everything to each other in the beginning but was set up by the men who pinned them against eachother! Especially Otto and viserys who were the main problem from the start , viserys is decent but he’s a terrible king in general for failing his family cause sir you butchered your first wife and cast aside your daughter half her life for a son then went against male tradition to make her heir then for you to remarry aka her friend who you forced to have children with that gave you sons which you knew the realm wanted and not your daughter so you caused some political bs that is already stirring in your kingdom because of the terrible decisions you made , you set your daughter up to fail by not politically helping her at all so she would succeed in the end and threw her to the wolves that awaits for her downfall now that you have a son , you let your wife’s hatred for your daughter get so bad over the years even when it’s wrong and never did anything about it because you wanna please everyone Instead of doing a lot more than you could due to your declining health but you let your health get so bad you put everything at risk, she even openly shamed your daughter in front of you and went against your wishes by trying to undermine her every chance to support her son and told you over her dead body in your face in front of everyone like dude where is your back bone lol not that I am saying he doesn’t deserve it because viserys is his own worst enemy and I feel bad for Alicent cause I get her anger and resentment towards the favoritism viserys gives rhaenrya and her children which is not rhaenrya’s fault since she is his love child from aemma but it’s pointed at the wrong person instead of the men who are mostly the problem who made her this way but that does not mean her actions were ok cause at the end of the day she is a victim but became the abuser so I like her to an extent and yes rhaenrya is flawed as well but everyone in this show is but I really feel for rhaenrya especially the way she was treated her whole life up until this point then she was forced to marry her gay cousin who isn’t sexually attracted to women so what was she supposed to do? plus everyone knew he was gay! cause what’s to say they did try or he couldn’t get it up and nothing worked and she got desperate so she found trust in ser harwin who cared about her! At the end of the day those boys have Targaryen blood and their dragons hatched so the king , lord Corlys and including their “father” laenor who clearly loves them as his own but in my opinion he didn’t do enough to show it like sir your wife let you have your fun and have your side piece whenever you want but when she’s asking you to play the part which you haven’t been doing all this time and when she needs you now more than ever you wanna flee? Like come on laenor especially the fact he even let alicent disrespect him and his family when he should’ve been standing on business cause if it was daemon he would never let any of that happen , I am just sayin😅 rhaenrya tried to be patient and civil but alicent was too stubborn so I don’t blame rhaenrya for finally leaving that terrible environment which is clearly not good for her or her boys and she’s a good mom who who truly loves them, it’s crazy she never wanted kids due to her trauma passed down from her mom and grandmother being brutally killed in childbirth while alicent who struggles with motherhood because she was a childbride who grew up with her children never having the right guidance to show her what real love is especially her father! But I do think she loves them but doesn’t know how to be a good mom since she also lost her mom so young who probably would’ve molded her a lot better sadly💔 anyways rhaenrya is better than me cause i would’ve dracarys everyone who got on my last nerve lmao cool channel and great reactions!
WHOA!!!! You get the award of the year for the best commentary so far. Everything you stated here was facts. How dare Criston do what he's done. He is an ungrateful person. He and Alicent are meant for each other. They do try to act all high and mighty but both never have done any self reflection that it was Rhaenrya and her family that gave them the titles and position they currently carry. And Yes, Alicent failed for her father's manipulation. This is tragic because he caused her to put the same, somewhat, unfounded pressure back onto her kids.
