"But watch Mark, watch how he walks onto the stage, plants himself at the mic stand, one tattooed fist halfway down the stand, the other resting on top of the mic, immobile, massive, male. When the time comes to sing, he simply opens his mouth and releases a blues, a blues lived deeply and utterly earned, and that voice tears right through you, his sheer force on stage absolutely humbling. A greatness, Mark, a greatness - a true singer, a superb writer and beautiful soul, loved by all." Nick Cave about his friend M.L. Well said thanks!
I also find it interesting that even after all these years Nick says he's still so insecure about his voice that he moves around so much to distract from it. Mark just stands and delivers.
😭😭💖💔💔I am so deeply heart broken not being able to attend Mark Lanegan's concert in 2021(cancelled for covid)..!!We lost a great voice, writer , human being..🥺
I ran into ML outside a Mondo Generator show at some pont in the earlier 2000s. I was drunk and started talking to him. He conversed amicably for a few minutes. He told me, at that point, that he was talking to a friend that he hadn't seen in years and wanted to catch up. I knodded and proceeded to keep talking at him. I sobered up when I caught his glare, much how one sobers up when a cop pulls them over. I moved on. Years later I was getting an LP signed by him and took the opportunity to apologize. I described the evening and he laughed. "You bothered me for 5 minutes? I've been on a bender and bothered people for 5 months." He signed my LP "Good to see you again! Really!" Am so happy to have had those minor interactions and a happy ending with an important contributor to my experience.
" You bothered me for 5 minutes? Ivè been on a Bender and bothered someone for 5 months." 😅 Awe Man, I would have lost it with that quick, witty response. Laughing my guts off at the thought still everyday. 😊
Dear Anton and everyone who has written to me about Mark, I encountered Mark many times over the years - we engaged in some extremely dubious escapades back in the ’90s; he sang ‘White Light/White Heat’ and ‘Fire and Brimstone’ with Warren and me on the Lawless soundtrack; he recorded my favourite ever Nick Cave cover - an astonishing version of ‘Brompton Oratory’; we did something together for the Jeffrey Lee Pierce record, I think; and he toured and hung out with us on The Bad Seeds' 2013 Australian tour. Go online and watch Mark sing Blixa’s ‘father’ part with me in ‘The Weeping Song’ on that tour. As a frontman, I move around a lot on stage, I can’t help it, it is a habitual nervous thing, a kind of neurotic compensation for a voice I have never felt that comfortable with. But watch Mark, watch how he walks onto the stage, plants himself at the mic stand, one tattooed fist halfway down the stand, the other resting on top of the mic, immobile, massive, male. When the time comes to sing, he simply opens his mouth and releases a blues, a blues lived deeply and utterly earned, and that voice tears right through you, his sheer force on stage absolutely humbling. A greatness, Mark, a greatness - a true singer, a superb writer and beautiful soul, loved by all. Love Nick
RIP MARK! I love the story of how Nick Cave showed up to Mark's trap house apartment to buy smack and Mark's goth neighbors were blown away by Nick Cave walking passed them in the hallway lol. ..i think he said "Good Evening" to them or something.
In the absence of Blixa, Nick couldn't have done better to find someone to fill his shoes on this song other than Mark -- its dark subject matter and tone are right up his alley, and he didn't disappoint! If I believed in a heaven, I'd hope that he's up there in the middle of a group hug with the other '80s Seattle Grunge band frontmen who preceded him dying too young: Mother Love Bone's Andrew Wood; Nirvana's Kurt Cobain; Alice In Chains' Layne Stayley; and most-recently, Soundgarden's/Audioslave's Chris Cornell
It remind me the gutter twins show +10 years ago. Greg Dulli was so vivid on stage and Mark Lanegan hanging to the mic as always. One of my favorite singer ever. Thanks to share this !
I read an interview with Mark years ago where he says that he became used to not moving during tthe Screaming Trees days out of necessity. Beacause the Connor brothers moved around like wild men and were each 6 foot 2 and 300 pounds. Mark is also a big and tall. When Mark moved around it often led to accidental colissions with one of the brothers. Which would then lead to a fist fight on stage. So he got used to planting himself in one spot and not moving.
Oh indeed it was unreal and brilliant and mind blowing! I really only intended to stay down the front for Mark's support slot as I knew it would get pretty crazy in there for Nick but in fact as you can see my videos are not that shaky :) SO SO glad to have stayed and captured this.
So crying and weeping are two different things right crying is something bad happened but it'll be over and everything will be good later but weeping means it's a mistake and it's over heavy stuff dude God bless you
Mr Lanegan must be a tricky guy to mike up; what an interesting & eclectic combination these guys make. I'd love to hear a few studio tracks out of these guys.
incredible performance I had heard of Mr. Lonegan only when he died. but if Nick Cave endorsed him and he's Irish then he had to be good I'm sure my sister knew about him long ago she's laid up from a car accident right now but thanks again Nick Cave you the man
I used to play with a girl that that favored these two cats. She even played with the the both of them...makes feel like a I could've...but that's just me wishing. Love ya Nicole.
Oh my wish like many they would collaborate, but barring that fantasy could we at least find that there's a professional recording of this with audio pulled right from the board
Nick holds out his hand .............. in a genuine respectful way........ Mr Lanegan grips it .....unsure.....but still with respect ......although appears a bit suspicious.

Absolutely true, Nick put in words what I thought watching and listening this
performance

The inside of God's pocket pays tribute to the back side of the moon.

Beautiful words indeed.
Nick Cave's tribute to Mark in his Red Hand files brought me here. I get it.
Same.
Likewise
Oh yes
Same here two of the greatest men in history
I don't get it. Please tell me. I love Mark Lanegan and his music.

Love Nick
You are already missed, RIP Mark...
Mark is alive and kiking in ourminds and souls!!
I love Mark's style: Walks on stage, fuck's shit up, Walks off.
❤

You are missed Mark... rest easy...
Nick surely loves to run around and Mark just prefers standing there, but the fact that they are both amazingly perfect in their way will never change
Could not be better - Mark and Nick and Warren on one stage together -
certo che questi due, ne fanno cento. la loro follia non ha eguali è sempre un piacere grazie
I am a big fan of Lanegan's as well as Nick Cave's work.
I got goosebumps and tears in my eyes all the way through...
Thanks for posting it, cursedy
bloodcurdling!

I love how Nick can't stop moving while Mark is dead on the inside.
If I'm not mistaken, Lanegan's stationary stage presence is largely the result of a leg injury he suffered as a teenager.
Why would you love that someone is "dead inside?" Like someone who was murdered by a pirate in a pirate bar listening to pirate music?
Difference between coke and h
Nick's letter about this on his website is touching. Look for it.

Mark is perfect right here

Interesting how one can detect Jim Morrison mannerisms on both performances. Great!

RIP Mark Lanegan 🌹❤️😢

Well he - Mark- looks relaxed, but I think he is shy also. I should not compare Nick with Mark. 2 great guy’s. ❤️
God bless you Mark 🙏 ❤️
Still can't believe it 💔

nice! (nick cave's calisthenics and gyrations compared to lanegan's simply standing there, amusing)
Oh my wish like many they would collaborate, but barring that fantasy could we at least find that there's a professional recording of this with audio pulled right from the board

Mark is on stage with a legend of Nick's calibre yet he looks like he can't wait to get the hell out of there 🤔
That’s him being normal :)
Marks a fucking legend as well if you ask me
i'M A DUMB ASS.
mARKS VOICE MAKES ME FEEL PEACEFULL>
For the algorhythm.
Introvert vs Extrovert haha
Groots
I take it Mariah Carey is more up your alley?
why are you all that aggressive? that's amazing ...
and rob: wtf means "shite voice" ? I'm real atonished ...
Not to be an asshole, but.... ouch love both of them but
fairly unhappy voice levels....
What does that mean??? It was recorded live on an iPhone! Way better than some of other shite recordings out there!!
rip Lanegan
