Hey Siiroth are you seriously telling me you forgot Wart was in The Legend of Zelda. Yeah he is more than just a Mario character. This is one of the many Nintendo Universe confirmations. Yeah whatever Nintendo says almost all Nintendo games are in the same universe.
Siiroth did you I know this probably not you didn't say in your video but donkey Kong Jr is are donkey Kong now apparently donkey Kong dies and donkey Kong Jr takes the place of donkey Kong to technically you're lying
One character that i still think is weird to be missing is Toadsworth, as he hasn't appeared since Partners in Time, and there is no real reason for why (maybe because of Toadette or the "no unique toad law"?)
@@realsalu634 He was also (very briefly) in Dream Team, which was his very last appearance in a new game (he was in the remakes of Superstar Saga and BIS, and 3D All-Stars, but that doesn't count). Now that I think about it, AlphaDream was the one who was really keeping Toadsworth alive at the time, and with them gone bankrupt, he really hasn't appeared.
@@matthewberry2144 Yeah the only way I see Toadsworth appearing in another game is if the M & L rpg series is somehow revived which is not very likely.
According to Rare, Junior was the father of the main protagonist (Kranky admits in the dialogues that HE is the original Donkey Kong). So having him as the "sidekick" to his own son just wouldn't fly.
Recon. Now the Donkey Kong we know is the grandson of the original Donkey Kong. A lot of us aren't going to get that. I used to think the current Donkey Kong was the original Donkey Kong. That kind of makes sense because why would the villain become the hero? It's kind of strange that their names are all Donkey Kong. Donkey Kong had a son and named him Donkey Kong Jr. When Donkey Kong Jr grew up, he had a son and named him, Donkey Kong. Let me guess if the current Donkey Kong has a son will he name him Donkey Kong?
I don't feel like Wart was QUITE forgotten by Nintendo, even if he doesn't appear in games anymore. Nintendo had made a recruitment booklet forJapanese employees that featured brand new, completely unique hand-drawn artwork of various Mario characters working at Nintendo (such as Bowser Jr testing his Junior Clown Car on Spinies and Buzzy Beetles; a music session with Pauline singing, Luigi on a double bass, Spike on a bongo and Wiggler on Note Blocks; Peach and some Toads painting concept art; Thwomps smashing on Switch systems to test durability, overseen by a Boo; etc). One of these artworks is Daisy and Donkey Kong communicating via telephones at an office... and Daisy just so happens to be calling Wart, of all people! Wart is even surrounded by a bunch of Shy Guys! It's a neat little nod to a character that we haven't really seen all too often beyond remakes.
@@ssbfan33 Arguably. Considering Link's Awakening is all within his dream, you can claim that he wasn't really there, and since he went by a different name, you can also claim it wasn't him. If you consider him a Zelda character because of that appearance, then you have to include everything else like it, like Peach, Goombas, Kirby-like enemies, etc.
@@Luigicat11 Ah, interesting. So is then also called that in the Japanese Links Awakening I assume? Also, iirc he was made for the US first right? So technically his "American" name would be the "original"? Unless I'm getting them mixed up now or they changed something along the line. Either way, just interesting to note that they changed a name going west to east instead of the typical way.
@@edwardnygma8533 Well the American SMB2 did originally release in the states, but it was based on Doki Doki Panic, which was Japanese and he was there, so no, he wasn't made for the US first. It is easy to think he was if you didn't know about DDP though.
Even though what theyre saying IS true, I still feel like they can be brought back in a way, if they ever decide that 8 worlds isn't enough, they could use the Koopa Kids as a way to expand the journeys. Plus, all they really need to do is just touch up on their designs, give em the DuckTales Reboot treatment and make the Red, Blue and Green one more distinct in design and personality from one another
My theory for DK JR not being in anymore games is because it wouldn’t make sense for him to look or be younger than Dk since he’s technically his dad because cranky kong was the original one and also they probably can’t find a good design for him to look older
That, and Diddy Kong has essentially replaced Donkey Kong Jr. for good once Microsoft acquired Rare. Beforehand, Nintendo wasn't allowed to have DKC characters appearing in any Mario game as Rare owned the rights to almost all DKC content and therefore wanted no cross contamination or crossovers with the Mario series, barring the Mario cameos in DKC2. Nintendo was allowed to have Donkey Kong in their games, but they had to get permission from Rare in order to use him. The last game to have that restriction was Mario Kart Double Dash!!, which is somewhat redundant in the end as the acquisition was completed during development. Until then, Donkey Kong Jr. has made a few appearances even after the release of Donkey Kong Country, with his latest appearance being Mario Tennis as an unlockable character.
@@X2011racer It doesn't help that Rare also replaced DK Jr with a discount lookalike in "Dixie Kong's Double Trouble", making it all the more insulting and contradictory.
Donkey Kong Jr. was added to Mario Kart Tour in the Super Mario Kart Tour. If the SNES part is an excuse, why didn't they choose another character like Koopa Troopa to get a SNES variant?
@@robbiewalker2831 I think you're taking the narrative of this video too seriously. Rare making a sinilar looking character (in direct competition to) DK Jr is not disrespectful, and if anything you should be greatful. The more well-designed the characters the better DK Jr is a cool character who shows up every now and then. Kiddie Kong is also a memorable fun character. Neither share the spotlight anymore, but they don't need to. They're function at this point is to make Mario's world feel bigger.
I'm happy Daisy avoided this fate. Azalea stole Daisy's intended face because her earlier designs looked like a simple recolor of Peach. That was what caused Daisy to obfuscate and suffer an identity crisis for one decade. I'm glad Nintendo realized that making Azalea was a big mistake because she stole everything what Daisy wanted in the latter's earlier appearances. It's not going to matter if Daisy is a reskin of Peach, Daisy was a tomboyish doppelganger of Peach anyway, so it's all good. These characters Nintendo wanted to erase happened for good reason. Diddy Kong was a much better looking character than Donkey Kong Jr. anyway. And also, Bowser Jr. was the real Koopa Kid even if he is a simple reskin of Baby Bowser.
@@dabluepittoo-aqua4213 She was one of the humans introduced in Camelot's Mario Golf titles, first appearing on the Game Boy, but able to be transferred over to the N64 version via linking the games. She made her last appearance in Mario Golf: Advance Tour on the GBA as one of the original golfers from the past generation that the main character could compete against.
Just to share some stuff about K. Rool, the reason K. Rool exists in the form that he does is actually because him as well as the rest of the Kremlings were going to be villains in another Rare game that was being made, it was a space themed text adventure game inspired by Monkey Island, but their designs in that game were very radically different from what we got in DKC, so in order to make them fit the DKC setting better, they made the designs more cartoony and so from there is how we got the designs we see Rool and the Kremlings with today and that text adventure game ended up getting scrapped at some point, don’t remember if that was before or after this decision though. As far as we know, the biggest connection to anything related to Mario early in DKC’s development is that at one point it was going to be a game where DK and Mario teamed up with Wario being the main antagonist.
Well maybe but Alligator's are depicted as green even though they can be brown, so maybe the green is to keep him from sharing the same color as the Donkey Kong and the rest of the Kongs
I’m fine with Nintendo having set cast members, but I wish they would try more variations like in the original paper Mario games while still establishing the regular versions as definitive.
I really like Nintendo keeping their cast consistent but I feel like Donkey Kong Jr. and Wart could still be part of their own series. Koopa Kid should just be seen as Bowser Jr. and his variants as the character using Double Cherries in my opinion, it just makes no sense for them to be seen as different characters anymore.
The doing away with Paper Mario's "good individuals of normally enemy species" is a tremendous loss imo. Not only did it make the cast of those games more interesting, but it reflects how irl, there's both kind people and assholes alike in every population. Nintendo taking this uniform stance on the enemy character designs after getting that before just feels wrong in more ways than one.
Plus, we got some loveable and memorable characters, with those designs, and to see them only now being possible mentions (bit of a stretch on that one, though) is such a shame.
I wish Wart and Tatanga appeared in more games to add more villains than just bowser. Maybe Wart could be Bowser’s echo fighter in smash (just replace the fire with bubbles) and Tatanga could be Bowser Jr’s echo fighter.
Agreed!! One of the things I liked about the older Mario RPGs was that they weren't afraid to change up the Mario formula from time to time and even include non-Bowser Big Bads like Cackletta, Fawful, Smithy and Grodus. If Wart and Tatanga were to reappear in the Mario series, they could bring a lot to the table.
For the Koopa Kids, it's more of an copyright issues probably. They're made by Hudson Soft which created the Mario party during the N64 and Gamecube era which they were existing, they disappeared after Mario Party 9 where it was made by Nd Cube. Mario party superstar is still made by Nd Cube which is probably one of the reason why Bowser Jr is plastered on Koopa Kid since Kid was an Hudson Soft character. I guess Nintendo could maybe buy them but there kinda no reason to since Bowser Jr exist...
Bruh you're talking out of your ass with that line of logic just like people claiming Hudson "owned" the old board system in Mario Party when those idiots were outright shown to be dead wrong last year
ND Cube is comprised of mostly former Hudson Soft employees so the original devs of Mario Party never really left per se. I'm not too sure it's a copyright issue in this case considering this isn't what happened with Mario RPG characters like Geno or Mallow, but more along the lines of what happened with the characters made for Donkey Kong. Nintendo fully owns the Kremlings and K. Rool and have used them in non-Rare games, they just decide not to use them very often for whatever reason. While Hudson Soft did originally develop the games and have since been acquired by Konami, Koopa Kid is probably in a very similar boat to the Kremlings, but unfortunately gets phased out due to functioning as a similar role to Jr. which sucks.
My theory/headcanon is that the Koopa Kids were imperfect clones of Bowser and that Bowser Jr. was the successful experiment. That's why he has no mother.
This was actually the predominant theory before the 2012 interview where Shiggy explicitly said that Junior was the only real kid. Which is so weird, because if Dad has dozens of children and then one quote 'successful' one, the theory should all but be confirmed, right? But the average person is an idiot.
DK Jr would be a cool character to add to Smash, as like a Pichu or Young Link for Donkey Kong: 1) It’d be another Donkey Kong series character. And 2) Maybe they could change DK’s moveset and use DK Jr as a way to preserve his current moveset.
@@bruh_dah_ very true. We need more relevant characters who are absent, rather than irrelevant characters. I just thought I’d share, since the video topic was about forgotten characters 🤷♂️
@@bruh_dah_ Because Jr was one of the first kongs in the series, and the first Kong protagonist as well. Not to mention a huge Nintendo icon from the arcade, NES and G&W times as well.
I’d really love to see Wart and even Tatanga come back, since Mario games are so attached to using either Bowser or a one-time villain, heck the only time I can think of that wasn’t the case was with Fawful, and people fell in LOVE with him. I kinda get why Koopa Kid and the Koopa Kids were cut, since people already have trouble with Bowser Jr. vs Baby Bowser, and with those two and the Koopalings, throwing in another scenario like Toad and Yoshi where there’s “character that’s named after their species” on TOP of that would get way too confusing, but it’d still be nice to see him playable in some spin-offs or as generic NPCs/background characters every now and then. Same with Donkey Kong Jr., and don’t say him being DK’s dad makes the timeline not work, because you and I both know that half the Mario Kart roster is babies anyways.
What about, Vaati from the legend of zelda series ? He litterally became a god and nearly killed zelda . Unlike, Mort or DK Jr. Where they at least get mentions in games . I dare you or anyone to find 1 cameo of Vaati in any smash bros , or nintendo game . Vaati is by far the character Nintendo want's people to forget about an it sucks .
Im actually kinda surprised that you never brought up the entire Super Mario RPG cast. I know its a one off game but Boshi, The Smithy Gang, Mallow and Geno, All great characters that really did broaden the Mario universe. I feel Nintendo has fallen in to the same issues that the western entertainment industry had fallen in to No innovation with new characters, stories, and IP's. I miss the expanded world of Mario. If anything those random new characters made the Mario world deeper than just Mario, Peach and Bowser when you look at it even now Main stays such as Yoshi and Wario are being pushed off to the side for the main 3.
Yeah definitely a lot of interesting characters there but I believe most aren't seen too often because of legal issues with who owns them, kinda different reasoning than most of the others in this one. Could be an interesting topic for the future though!
Super Mario RPG characters aren't used because they are partially owned by Square as well. Meaning Nintendo has to get permission from Square Enix everytime they want to use them. They did it once with Geno making a cameo in the GBA release of Superstar Saga, but otherwise Nintendo just can't be arsed to do it.
Yamauchi caused the downfall of SMRPG; he really ruined Square's (SquareSoft at the time) relationship with them along with potential future SMRPG games. After Square merged with Enix, it made things more complicated and worse. If the SMRPG characters were owned or bought out by Nintendo, we probably would've gotten a lot of SMRPG games, Geno and Mallow being in Mario spin-offs or even as playable characters in Smash (with Geno probably being as early as Brawl since Sakurai wanted Geno as a playable character in Brawl). I think this is also the case with the M&L RPG characters like Cackletta, Prince Peasley, Midbus, etc., we only see them in those games because they were likely made and owned by AlphaDream, and Nintendo doesn't want to bother getting the rights to them.
Big thing is he has to target Daisy and co again before going up in space and Mario alone would have to save the her and others again, but not before Wario comes back.
Good thinking, what a missed opportunity. This would've been good for a Galaxy 3. I also would've been cool with a Tatanga and Bowser team up in Galaxy 3.
So Nintendo being completely simple compared to the ambitious GameCube era, is like Sega being afraid of making an ambitious game BC of a repeat of Sonic 06.
@@BrendanJSmith Even though it brought in returning characters in addition to new ones, in my eyes for Adventure 3 there would be no Rouge, no Shadow in, just hew guys that had anything to do with the Emeralds that happens to be tied to Chaos.

It makes sense 😳 She's too popular to be forgotten Though I found it strange that our time Donkey Kong would kidnap her on the Mario vs Donkey Kong series. I just wish we could play as Pauline as we can with Peach, Daisy and Rosalina
In all fairness to Donkey Kong Jr., at this point, he’s mainly just something to represent Nintendo’s arcade days. Anytime we see him now, it’s to pay homage to their pre-NES days in the arcades.
@@benmalsky9834 We have Diddy Kong. He's like Dk Jr. but looks so much better. Seeing Diddy Kong now, it makes sense why Nintendo chose him over Diddy Kong Jr. Speaking about cynical, remember what happened to Daisy back in the 1990s? Daisy looked too similar to Peach in Mario Land that many people forgot she was a different character. Too similar to Peach, Daisy suffered an identity crisis for one decade and had no playable appearances prior to the new millennium with Mario Tennis on the Nintendo 64. As it turns out, Wario plotted Daisy's kidnapping so he can take the spotlight away from Daisy. Most people didn't care about Daisy back in the 90s because they thought that Daisy was Peach's tomboyish doppelganger in her earlier gaming appearances. This is because Daisy and Peach's earlier designs didn't look much different from each other. I'll admit it, Princess Daisy is more of Peach's tomboyish semi-clone rather then her doppelganger.
Nintendo also doesn't like their IPs tampered with anymore and it was really disappointing to see the unique Toad with the crystal ball at the mini game house be replaced with Kemek :/ Same with the unique Toads in the Options house and Bank being replaced with a Shy Guy and the Bank Toads being replaced as well... Both Hudson and before Nintendo gave them directions, Intelligent Systems, made unique creative IPs that were all scrapped at one point and this could have also been the demise of the Koopa Kids as well, not just to ease the confusion for a younger audience about Bowser Jr. being Bowser's son Edit: Sorry. You went over that right after I commented lol
I rented Donkey Kong Country on the SNES years ago. There was an elderly kong on the world map who would complain about various things when you spoke to him. I always imagined that the elderly kong was actually the original Donkey Kong and the one you play as was DK Jr himself who had now grown into adulthood.
Actually, in the instruction manual, it says that Mario dreamed of this place and the next day, during a pick-nick with Peach, Toad and Luigi, he finds a path to it in real life. So it might be a dream world but there's a path between the two worlds so Wart could come back.
He didn't dream of Birdo. He just dreamed of entering the place. Then the next day with the crew, he found and entered the place just like in his dream. And then he met Birdo while adventuring into this world.
@@nousukas Oh really ? That's interesting. Most people don't know about the instruction manual's story and assume that the entire game is a dream because of the ending. So it's cool that you know ^^
My headcannon for DK junior is that he's meant to be a younger version of the DK we play as in country. While cranky kong could actually be the OG Donkey kong from the original arcade game. Of course this is just a theory but it would be really cool if it was true.
The weird thing is that it seems like your idea was what Nintendo & Rare were originally going for, as Cranky was previously stated to be DK's father, but was later retconned as Cranky being DK's grandpa, making Jr DK's dad. And then there's DK Jr 2 (who I assume is DK Jr's sibling) who is completely forgotten edit: upon further research, the father thing might have been an error by a dev. Although no one seems to be sure
For Wart, I'd love to see some sort of character development similar to Bowser. Over the years, Bowser has gone from -just- the king of the Koopa Kingdom. He's reached galactic overlord levels. He's become a major threat to more than just the Mushroom Kingdom. Maybe Wart has been in hiding to become some sort of dark wizard of the dreamscape (that still manages to choke on vegetables). Maybe he's been learning and practicing the dark magic to invade people's dreams and trap them in a never-ending nightmare. It could even have references to Antasma. For DKJR I always kept forgetting the tidbit of information relating that Cranky is the GRANDFATHER of Donkey Donk and not a father, believing that Konkey Dong is actually DKJR grown up. With that information, it's a little more believable to say that Donkey Bonkey is the son of DK JR.
Some other forgotten characters are DK Jr 2 (the pink one from the math game) and Bowser's brother (a character with a confusing history of the official stance on them going back and forth between "He's not even real" to "He's his brother" to "He IS real but we can't make up our minds")
*@Arctic Dino* There's also Boshi and Croco from the _Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars_ video game who have seem to been forgotten by Nintendo as they had *_never, EVER_* appeared in a single Nintendo video game since then!
I'm glad that Rosalina is a recurring character. I was worried that she would be just a one-off character for Super Mario Galaxy, but they kept her around as a mainstay, and I couldn't be happier about that. She's easily the best character in the Mario series.
@@Macarow what character in the Mario franchise has a bigger backstory than Rosa? She’s the most relatable character in the franchise, she’s had the most character development out of any of the Mario cast?
Videa Idea- Why was Foreman Spike an equally erased character as DK Jr. and Wart, got to be revived by nintendo for the upcoming mario movie? Was it just cause the role he filled in the games he appeared in? or is there something more? Maybe something similar to what nintendo did with Pauline in Odyssey to make another marketable icon in the roaster?
I like Mario but a massive problem it has it that it’s so obsessed with playing it safe that they’re scared to make new characters REAL new characters not like a talking hat that’s only there as part of the theme, like a real new character
I think Wart could be Yoshi's new arch enemy, DK has K Rool so Wart could be like Yoshi's bowser expy, since his games have a storybook aesthetic it would make sense to have a villain that would only appear in dreams, maybe Wart is creating nightmares so that he can create a bridge to the physical world and Yoshi needs to stop him. It sounds like something they would do.
I hope some forgotten characters come back in some form. Pauline managed to come back in a big way after recurring in the Mario VS Donkey Kong games and then blowing up in popularity with Odyssey. Foreman Spike will probably become more popular again after he appears in the movie. I really wish Nintendo would allow for a game with a more expanded cast. Maybe a new RPG series that's not afraid to draw from the deep well that is the franchise's cast of characters. Finally actually give characters like Waluigi something to do in a game's story, return past characters that have been forgotten, draw from different sub-franchises (main series, past RPGS like M&L, Paper Mario or even 7 Stars if they can work with Square, sports games, Mario Party, Doki Doki Panic/Super Mario Bros 2, Mario Land, Luigi's Mansion, Yoshi games, Donkey Kong games, Wario Land, WarioWare, Dr. Mario, etc.). But it seems they are mostly very protective and conservative with their IP for the most part nowadays...
Dope vid! Kinda surprised that you didn't bring up the canonical issues regarding DK Jr. though. Cranky Kong was already stated to be the original DK. That by proxy would make DK Jr. the more common DK's father as opposed to his son. So it wouldn't make sense for DK's dad to be tagging along in the form of a toddler. Rare would have to come up with a logical explanation on why.
when DKC first came out, the vhs promo originally said that DK Jr was the DK we played as, only grown up. it wasnt confirmed by nintendo until 2017 that DK Jr was modern DK's father, making cranky the grandfather. which subsequently retconned playing as DK Jr in the original DKC games.

In the Donkey Kong Country promo VHS, it was explained that Donkey Kong was actually Donkey Kong Jr, and Cranky was the original Donkey Kong. According to developers at the time, the character wasn't forgotten - he just grew up and became the DK we know today. Meaning Cranky was DK in the first two/three games, and DK jr took over after that.
Well that’s when your wrong because DK Jr is actually modern DK’s father as a child hence why it doesn’t make any sense to put DK Jr in any future games
I can’t come up with any reason as to how or why people could confuse king k rool & bowser for Wart. One is a dragon turtle thing One is a crocodile or alligator don’t remember, and it has a giant gold stomach & chest. Wart looks like a frog with claws so again I can’t think of any reason to how you would confuse wart for bowser/ K rool. 😬 Edit - it’s like how people were getting sonic & shadow mixed up. 😬😬😬
I really really loved the Koopa Kids and its really sad to see them just vanish from existence. I think it should be handled so that the Koopa Kids are for Mario Party and the Koopalings/Bowser Jr. are there for every other game
Actually in DKC Cranky Kong makes several references to himself being the original Donkey Kong (in the arcades), implying that DK in DKC could be DK jr.
Personally I feel they could've kept Koopa Kid and kept him as a Mario Party series only character. Worst case scenario they could've had him be a "relative" of Bowser's that loves parties and creating mischief
Actually, I believe the manual implies that Donkey Kong Jr. is actually Donkey Kong in the Donkey Kong Country series. You know how Cranky talks about how he once a big video games star? That's the original DK games. So Jr. hasn't actually been erased from history. He grew up.
As a 15 year old Mario fan (also artist), I understand this demographic very well, the way you explained it to me. I think the old three Paper Mario games were WAY better than the modern ones we know now. It seems Nintendo is running out of ideas about making original PM characters, which is quite upsetting, and I think they should bring back the old PM partners as well (and the rest of the unique characters). Last year I got SPM for Christmas and it was a VERY good game, I loved it! I'm planning on getting Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, and Paper Mario. That's it from me, have a nice day! Also, one more thing, I'm sicken tired of these generic Toads they constantly put on Paper Mario! GAH!
The modern DK is Donkey Kong Jr. and the original DK is Cranky Kong which why Rare made Diddy Kong to be his nephew and part of the DK family. King K. Rool was inspired by Wart in and Rare made an alligator type enemy instead of a frog.
5:21 I think comparing a recurring character like Birdo and a character like Wart is an interesting one. I think the main difference between Wart and all of the other characters in Mario 2 is that Wart is one guy. Birdos, Shy Guys, Ninjis, etc, are all part of a species. Meanwhile, we only know of one Wart, and it happens that one Wart is in games about dreams. We know there are similar Bowser like characters like the Koopa Kids and Bowser Jr, but there's still only 1 Bowser, and he exists outside of the dreamscape.
I think they are still going with the idea of donkey Kong Jr being DK and cranky Kong as the original DK arcade as that is basically the lore of dkc, despite the fact that they changed his design in the DS Yoshi's Island, I don't think they're planning to make Yoshi's Island DK Cannon, I'm saying this because something tells me they're making cranky Kong as the original DK in the upcoming Mario movie and DK Jr as the donkey Kong we know today. DK Jr being our donkey Kong I believe is still an open door
As a kid playing these games I definitely DID get confused with the absence of Bowser Jr in some of those Mario parties especially knowing they released after Sunshine. I was like “wtheck is the koopa kids”
I used to think when Donkey Kong Country came out that Donkey Kong in the game was Junior grown up and Cranky was the first Donkey Kong. That just made sense to me and my friends in school. I know I'm wrong now but, it was kind of fun trying to come up with our own explanations back then.
Only paper mario had a bad effect from removing and simplifying characters but besides that the other characters didn't benefit for keeping since there was good replacements.
Technically the dream thing could still be true for wart. As shy guys first show up in sm2 but Canonically show up in yoshi island games. And birdo is in a relationship with yoshi meaning they both could have just been in Mario's memory as a kid.
Some sources including guides and games have stated that Cranky IS the OG DK, but he is stated to be modern DK's grandfather (which is weird since he apparently was stated to be his father originally, but got retconned) Would be cool if DK Jr was DK tho
DK jr: one thing to add, due to how DKC series ties to the original games (Cranky Kong being the elderly version of the Donkey Kong from the the arcade game) one could easily argue that the new Donkey Kong is HIS son.
it was confirmed by nintendo in 2017 that DK Jr is modern DK's father. because only before that, DK Jr was only confirmed to be cranky's son. so it just led to speculation on Jr's relation to modern DK.
Because fukin' Kensuke Tanabe infecting DK, Paper Mario, and everything he touches with New-itis, a disease that causes sequels to a game and its characters to be drastically changed up for no reason other than because it's NEW (unless it's an ass combat system like Paper Mario's after Sticker Star).
I'm sure someone else has said this, but the Donkey Kong that we know today *is* DK Jr, with the original DK growing old and retiring, becoming Cranky Kong.
Maybe Koopa Kids exclusion was to clear up the confusion with all the other Koopa (people mix up Baby Bowser, Bowser Jr and the Koopalings quite a lot)

Though the Paper Mario case is guilty of Double Standards. While there is this "no alteration rule" in Paper Mario, other types of games had a lot more breathing room for character design. Like Captain Toad, or various new races in Super Mario Odyssey. Fans wouldn't have been as annoyed with the recycling of faces if Paper Mario was allowed as much leeway as Mario & Luigi, Galaxy or Odyssey. It's like if Nintendo was being overtly picky with Paper Mario in particular, to the point where some of those games made the 3D platformer's plots look deep until Origami King. By now, it seems that Nintendo doesn't even think of Paper Mario as an RPG anymore. And with Mario & Luigi seemingly dead as a franchise, there are currently no games to fill in the RPG gap.
you can blame Shigeru Miyamoto for that one he says there can not be two mario RPG's. shigeru miyamotto says he dislikes original character designs that are not his since it ruins some mario games iconic character popularity you know for marketing Nintendo games.

My geuss was that Rare was a more mainstream company and they wanted to redesign Kong and Jr. with designs that was modern modern because hey, this was the 90s and every classic character from the 70s and 80s had to have a EXTREME and EDGY redesign. So Donkey Kong was more hunched like a ape, his hair spiked up, had a angrier expression, and huge bulky arms. Nintendo wasn't the biggest fan of the new design of Donkey Kong either until they soften his look to what we know today. But it was the company who wanted to "90s" them up and Nintendo always portrayed him and Mario like Popeye and Bluto. More 1940s cartoon so it makes sense why they didn't want them to modernized them until Donkey Kong Country was a smash hit.
Tbh the case for Donkey Kong Jr is depressing as hell. The character was one of the very first Nintendo icons in the gaming industry and had a whole legacy to him until Rare screwed it all up by doing things their own way and dissing what Miyamoto built up. He most certainly would’ve been one of the biggest Nintendo all-stars by now had they respected the source material and made DK Jr the player 2 of Donkey Kong Country as it was initially planned.
Rare got sold to Microsoft and that's why banjo kazooie and conker and other characters were part of Xbox. Although banjo kazooie were allowed to join smash bros.
Makes kinda sense for most of them being removed, cause yes, for each one of them there exists a surperior replacer. Ask the sonic fans how annoying it can get to constantly get new characters. Keeping a fixed roster keeps people connected to the characters.
I'm pretty sure the current incarnation of Donkey Kong is the grown up DK Jr since in the original Donkey Kong Country on SNES it is established that Cranky Kong is the original Donkey Kong.
@@orsonzedd my other comment disappeared so im saying it again. you can literally look it up. playing with super power: nintendo super nes classics eguide, page 112.
I noticed a pattern. Most of the characters listed were never made to be main staples. They were substituted in for the sake of time. It takes time to design a character that the fans will love.
Koopa Kids: my headcanon has always been that they were costumed members of a so-named children's activity club indigenous to Bowser's nation that he allowed to join in on some of his more lighthearted endeavors every now and again before (he at least realized) his parental duties to Bowser Jr. took up too much of his time.
Dk junior never disappeared he grew up the dk in the original donkey Kong was actually cranky kong and dk junior is now donkey Kong at least that’s how the theory goes
I actually own a copy of Mario party advance on my sister’s old GBASP, which is how I actually know of the koopa kids. It’s sad that they decided to leave them in the dust…
Lmao the Kupa kids were made out of laziness 😂 It makes it seem like bowser lost a custody battle. I remember them and I’m so shook with my memory coming about about those little guys. They weee so cute ! It are waaay more cute with the different colours. They could easily be cousin it’s not that hard for kids to understand. Also it would be cool if bowser had a bunch of kids since reptiles are born from eggs. Bowser junior is every cool as the one that would probably one day take bowser’s throne. It shows when they took so many roles by bowser jr. Having unique designs of bomb boombs…Makes the world more immersive. I loved when they gave those different races unique personalities. Nintendo does need to keep things safe anymore lmao with how big they are now.
>"He was listed as "Donkey Kong Jr. (SNES)", even further cementing that this guy is a character of the past." The pixelated SNES forms of DKJ _and_ Mario were both added in the Super Mario Kart Tour update of Mario Kart Tour, under the names of "Donkey Kong Jr. (SNES)" and "Mario (SNES)". Character Name (Costume Name) is how racer names are formatted in that game. If anything, it's impressive that they specified that this was just his SNES "costume", implying that alternate costumes may be available for DKJ in the future. For added context, both "King Boo" and "King Boo (Luigi's Mansion)" are playable racers in MKT, so there's already a precedent for it.

Yeah, but if it ain't NINTENDO saying it, I don't believe it.

@@robbiewalker2831 I think you're taking the narrative of this video too seriously. Rare making a sinilar looking character (in direct competition to) DK Jr is not disrespectful, and if anything you should be greatful. The more well-designed the characters the better
DK Jr is a cool character who shows up every now and then. Kiddie Kong is also a memorable fun character. Neither share the spotlight anymore, but they don't need to. They're function at this point is to make Mario's world feel bigger.
By that logic, Donkey Kong Jr is the current Donkey Kong though
I just wish they cared about Daisy's kingdom too :(

Or he could be done like the koopalings and just be a high ranking soldier of the army that really looks up to bowser
@@belltempest3708 That could work as well but to be honest I see no reason for them to still be around

@@monferno1 Me too, I hope that is what they go with.
I could see Tatanga happening, but there’s no need for Wart since he only appears in subcon alongside birdo, shy guy and most others.
Tatanga's down special can be Bomb Koopas instead of Mechakoopas
For the Koopa Kids, it's more of an copyright issues probably. They're made by Hudson Soft which created the Mario party during the N64 and Gamecube era which they were existing, they disappeared after Mario Party 9 where it was made by Nd Cube. Mario party superstar is still made by Nd Cube which is probably one of the reason why Bowser Jr is plastered on Koopa Kid since Kid was an Hudson Soft character. I guess Nintendo could maybe buy them but there kinda no reason to since Bowser Jr exist...
I think Hudson soft merged with Konami.
Koopa Kids do appear in ND Cube games, as cameos
There were also missing in MP8, a game made by Hudson Soft.
Why are koopalings never in Mario party
Most likely
That's... kind of terrifying to think about. Like that sounds like the start of a horror story.
My headcanon is the dorky universe
This was actually the predominant theory before the 2012 interview where Shiggy explicitly said that Junior was the only real kid. Which is so weird, because if Dad has dozens of children and then one quote 'successful' one, the theory should all but be confirmed, right? But the average person is an idiot.

I was hoping Tatanga came back in the second mario movie
@@Teknanam Square and Nintendo have been slowly making up. I hope they remake or do a Mario RPG 2. The RPG mechanics are missing.

With donkey Kong jr sadly Nintendo cannon says cranky was the OG DK, jr was his son, and the current DK, is jr's son (Cranky's grandson)
That’s exactly what I thought so I was surprised he didn’t mention it. Cause technically dk jr is still there, in fact he’s the main characters
I like Mario but a massive problem it has it that it’s so obsessed with playing it safe that they’re scared to make new characters
REAL new characters not like a talking hat that’s only there as part of the theme, like a real new character
The coin cougher went through multiple iterations before it reached its final design. I feel like these characters are a similar case.
Nintendo owns their own Infinity Gauntlet: they snapped their fingers and a good chunk of the older characters are (essentially) gone.
🧤💥
I love Tatanga from Super Mario Land, we've seen only animal like villain before it but now Mario is fighting with alien on large spaceship, it's cool.
I wanted him return in Galaxy series, he would fit but that wasn't the case, unfortunately.

First of all, the ad was after the 1 minute 30 second mark, not within the first minute. Second, it was still after the ACTUAL content of the video, that being Mario characters that were purged from Nintendo history. It's not at the beginning of the video just because it's within a certain arbitrary time frame.
One is a dragon turtle thing
One is a crocodile or alligator don’t remember, and it has a giant gold stomach & chest.
Wart looks like a frog with claws so again I can’t think of any reason to how you would confuse wart for bowser/ K rool. 😬
Edit - it’s like how people were getting sonic & shadow mixed up. 😬😬😬
I really really loved the Koopa Kids and its really sad to see them just vanish from existence. I think it should be handled so that the Koopa Kids are for Mario Party and the Koopalings/Bowser Jr. are there for every other game

I wish at least Wart and DK Jr would come back. I feel like these characters could get the Pauline treatment and could potentially be profitable.
Wart is even a character who is also a The Legend of Zelda character. Yeah they are connected. One of the many Nintendo crossovers.
K Rool was inspired by Wario not Wart
5:21 I think comparing a recurring character like Birdo and a character like Wart is an interesting one. I think the main difference between Wart and all of the other characters in Mario 2 is that Wart is one guy. Birdos, Shy Guys, Ninjis, etc, are all part of a species. Meanwhile, we only know of one Wart, and it happens that one Wart is in games about dreams. We know there are similar Bowser like characters like the Koopa Kids and Bowser Jr, but there's still only 1 Bowser, and he exists outside of the dreamscape.

Theory: Wart is actually the dream demon of Nintendo
I think they are still going with the idea of donkey Kong Jr being DK and cranky Kong as the original DK arcade as that is basically the lore of dkc, despite the fact that they changed his design in the DS Yoshi's Island, I don't think they're planning to make Yoshi's Island DK Cannon, I'm saying this because something tells me they're making cranky Kong as the original DK in the upcoming Mario movie and DK Jr as the donkey Kong we know today. DK Jr being our donkey Kong I believe is still an open door
Cranky Kong is Donkey Kong's grandpa, so that must mean Donkey Kong Jr is Donkey Kong's dad.
As a kid playing these games I definitely DID get confused with the absence of Bowser Jr in some of those Mario parties especially knowing they released after Sunshine. I was like “wtheck is the koopa kids”
To be fair, dk jr is the current donkey kongs father
The Koopa Kids should have been in Mario Party Superstars
I'm going to be forever bummed out that the koopalings are not Bowser's kids anymore. Roy calling Bowser "King Dad" will always be my favorite.
I want to see Wart as the boss of the next Mario game.
DK jr: you took everything from me.
Diddy Kong: I don’t even know who you are.
Some theorized that DK jr is the DK we know today and that Cranky Kong is, well was the original DK
Some sources including guides and games have stated that Cranky IS the OG DK, but he is stated to be modern DK's grandfather (which is weird since he apparently was stated to be his father originally, but got retconned)
Would be cool if DK Jr was DK tho
DK jr: one thing to add, due to how DKC series ties to the original games (Cranky Kong being the elderly version of the Donkey Kong from the the arcade game) one could easily argue that the new Donkey Kong is HIS son.
it was confirmed by nintendo in 2017 that DK Jr is modern DK's father. because only before that, DK Jr was only confirmed to be cranky's son. so it just led to speculation on Jr's relation to modern DK.
Which all brings up the question, why did Donkey Kong keep getting new villains?
Because fukin' Kensuke Tanabe infecting DK, Paper Mario, and everything he touches with New-itis, a disease that causes sequels to a game and its characters to be drastically changed up for no reason other than because it's NEW (unless it's an ass combat system like Paper Mario's after Sticker Star).
Adding something new
Also, I'm so sick and tired of people going "Oh, ThEy ChAnGeD iT, tHeReFoRe It'S bAd!" Really, not all changes are bad.
I'm sure someone else has said this, but the Donkey Kong that we know today *is* DK Jr, with the original DK growing old and retiring, becoming Cranky Kong.
DK Jr and Koopa Kid have nothing wrong about them and I still don’t get why Nintendo disliked them
DK jr is just DK now so that’s probably why
Might get him in a baby Mario based gage or something but it would be like baby bowser
Maybe Koopa Kids exclusion was to clear up the confusion with all the other Koopa (people mix up Baby Bowser, Bowser Jr and the Koopalings quite a lot)
@@jmurray1110 If that true than why Mario and Pauline look like they in they middle age, while Cranky Kong in his old age? People say that he's the original Donkey Kong.

@@1BadAssArchAngelvs14 But now there *ARE* no Mario RPGs.
He better find a solution to this problem as soon as possible.
And the way he says it sounds a bit too much like "I don't want the new faces to steal the spotlight", which is self-defeating because it leads to those rare new faces to be *EVEN MORE LIKELY* to steal the spotlight for the sole reason that they stand out from the cookie-cutter designs.
I do remember these forgotten characters, if only they returned...
23:35 This is an excellent prove that financial success is both a blessing AND a curse.😞
