Hey guys, thanks for watching. I've tried to keep these videos fairly beginner friendly, but if you have any tricks, tips or additional comments to add, please leave them in the comments - I'm sure there will be plenty of people that will be able to benefit from the collective experience of the community.
I'm currently returning to Simracing after being away for 9 years. As luck would have it this video pops up on my channel as the first I see from your channel. You get a thumbs up and a subscription for me because this is very much what I need to get back on the horse proper.
Chris, you're a hero! I've been looking for something like this for years but now is the first time someone could actually tell me something that I understand instead of sitting there for two hours trying to somehow get what people are talking about. Thank you!
Ive been racing fix set ups on i racing for a little while now, and have always been abit hesitant to race in the other series's due to set ups, ive got a feeling these videos are going to come in very handy thanks dude.
Great work as per usual Chris. i for one will be watching each episode and using it as a reference. Fair play to you for taking on such an involved subject, and making it understandable to mr average (me). and your hard work in writing/producing these videos is REALLY appreciated. Hats off & well done that man!
As someone who has only recently got in to Sim racing after getting a hand me down wheel and pedals from a friend this and all of your other videos have been so incredibly helpful Chris! I cannot thank you enough for putting these together and sharing your knowledge! I look forward to learning more and more from your videos :D
I am so glad I found this series. I've been sim racing for a few years but was always hesitant to even try to do a setup. This is the best series for beginners by a country mile. It's well organized and well presented. Absolutely terrific.
This series must've taken a great deal of time and effort to produce. So glad to have found your channel. Really appreciate the passion you pour into all your videos. Quality stuff mate. Fan from Malaysia here, keep up the good work!
I'm always looking to improve, ever since I started sim racing in the early 2000s. I can already see I'm gonna like your perspective and approach in explaining the setup components, something I've only tinkered with for around 20 years lol Looking forward to watching this series!
Simracing changed - in the GPL years everybody shared their setups, numerous online databases to find any setup you needed. When I got back to simracing a couple of months ago I was surprised that I could hardly find setups - except for paid ones. I became a member of VRS which itself is absolutely great with an analyzer and lots of helpfull trackguides, but for most other sims it's quite impossible to find setups at all. Mostly due to the huge amount of track and cars combinations and constantly updated physics I guess. So time to finally learn how these bloody setups work. I think your tutorials will help me a great deal :)
Absolutely fantastic video. I am that type of person who can't watch a full video. And for me this is pure gold, I am trying to type a comment but I just can't because this was so amazing. I am going to watch the whole series and I am so grateful for the content you have provided for me and my fellow simracers. Instant subscribe and like, best to ya mate.
Mate, really appreciate your effort to make this video guide. You made everything very clear, especially for those that still need to learn about setups. Cheers.
could this be the holy grail that I need.... It does look like it... now on to video 2... thanks so much for your effort and for all of the help... I can't wait to watch this whole series... twice or three times at least..
Less than a few minutes in, and I already feel overwhelmed, but I'll try to learn. Integrity, do not fail me, now! P.S Thanks for making these videos for people who are in the dark when it comes to setup, Chris!
This has to be to be some of the most helpful content I have seen. Brilliant work chief and thanks massively for making the approach to understanding car setting up a ton easier and more importantly enjoyable 💪🏻.
Thank you so much for this. I will check all of them because even though i am playing racing sims for many many years, setups are my biggest weakness so maybe it will help a bit. Thanks for doing this.
This is amazing, thank you for putting this together. It really put the puzzle pieces together in my noob brain. I can’t wait to start tuning for real now.
Excellent series. Thanks for taking the time to think it our, produce the right replays and explain it so well. May I ever get to your level with my videos, I'll consider myself a lucky person.
There's an advice I heared that really helped me that would be useful here: sometimes when you have a little understeer it goes unnoticed, and then when you slow down throgth the corner you gain more grip and if the conditions are right your regain grip at the front and the excessive steering angle causes a spin out that mimics oversteery when really the core of the problem is the understeer.
This is really important and I noticed this recently with RSS4 on Assetto Corsa. Tried to hard to remedy oversteer only made the problem worse, when it was understeer that i should fix so that it would put too much pressure on the rear after it "snapped". Only when i gave up and defaulted the set up I understood what was going on.
Damn dude you're amazing for this. I've always just used community presets because understanding each part for each game and each effect is daunting. Thanks
Awesome to bring this Setup Guide to life. I ˋm looking forward to the whole series of guides. Mayen there is a slightly Chance of getting faster after all that study. Many many thanks for taking your time to explain all the needed stuff.
Just found this introductory video and very interested to watch through the further videos in the series. Very nicely put together and very clear advice 👍🏼
Looking forward to this. I'm only about a month into sim racing and I'm done with career mode of AC. It's time to get into some online racing, but I'm finding my quali times up to 5s off of pole... Everyone in the chat says it's all the setup.
Cant thankyou enough for doing this series of videos I'm totally new to the Sim world this is going to be so helpful. Now I just need one for navigating the actually Sim software (games) and then all the other software like steam and Simucube and what other software is required ..... Maybe in the future a series on all of this ?? Its quite intimidating for a newbie especially one thats not a computer geek
Hey Steve - thanks. Davy Jones has several step by step startup videos for some of the sims and other software on his channel. You may be able to find what you're looking for here: ua-cam.com/users/crankigeek
@@ChrisHaye cheers thanks Chris and your videos are excellent !! just came across your channel today and the way you explain things and the time and effort going into making these vids. Great work
If possible, could you add to the series? Making a qualifying setups vs race setups. Also fuel loads and the effects on your setup as the race progresses only if these things won't be discussed in one of the other topics.
Good idea 215Sugarfree - I do touch on these things in a few of the upcoming videos... but I haven't finalised the last couple, which are all about bringing everything together to build a setup in its entirety yet - so that seems like a great place to add this.
Awesome idea, Chris and very good luck with the concept. And as a creator myself, could I just give you a personal compliment on your THUMBNAILS, especially the way you are handling the text side of it. I struggled for ages with constant changes. But your text is not only clear, but seems easier to read the smaller the thumbnail size. Clever idea on the opposite YING & YANG foreground & background colors too...…… I can see 5k subs coming very soon Chris ; )))
Thanks SingleRacer - I decided fairly early on that I'd try to develop a recognisable visual style for the thumbnails. Sooooo many thumbnails on YT are just a picture of the persons head surrounded by emoji's, which basically communicates nothing of value. And yeah, the goal is 5K by Christmas. :D
Heh. Thanks 2ndLastJedi - I have scattered a bit of PC2 footage throughout the videos, because it does look very good. But, it's a pain to get the cameras doing what you want... which is the case for pretty much all of the sims!
@@ChrisHaye AC replays are really cool in VR especially the camera right on the track surface when the cars drive right over you ! I know a bit about set ups but your vids should be good for me to use to explain better to my 12 yrs old Son just how important set ups are :)
Thanks for the kind words lanlvl456, they're very much appreciated. I've not spoken too much about FWD cars in these videos, since they're the outlier, but most of it works the same way.
Love this, thanks for putting the time in. The setup problems I have are long-standing; when things aren't going well, do I change Me or the car? All set up is connected, so I need to look at how everything is connected and what changes do to that network of connections. Keep up the good work old bean. Alex.
This is a lot of work! I am going to watch all of it well done! Your videos have had a lot of polish but for just attempting such a big task much respect! This will help a lot of people. Awesome!
Chris. Great intro to the subsequent series. Question: do you have a link to your daily rig setup? Im looking to upgrade my wheel, pedals and shifter. Yes...the major components. I finally got my next level F1-GT cockpit but logitech g920 setup dulls the immersion. After 2 years of having it it feels like a toy now. Ready for the upgrade.
Hey man, I made this a little while ago: ua-cam.com/video/BsVndU82kyg/v-deo.html A few things have changed, mostly the wheel, which I talk about here: ua-cam.com/video/MGB4K3AofwU/v-deo.html
Contrary to popular beliefs, setups serve to encourage good habits, not to absorb bad ones. Depending on how you drive you can make the same setup oversteery or understeery, so a good setup doesn’t make you quick per se. It’s the other way around. Since anything can be driven to the limit, learn first to find the limits of a def setup and learn the track well before you make any changes, because once you improve your laptime you won’t be able to tell whether it’s because you improved or because the car improved, And you’ll be on a wrong path to start your setup with. I personally spend more time working on my driving skills than I do making setups because this is where I find speed. Then if I identify a precise handling characteristic that’s slowing me down and I know for sure it’s not caused by my own inputs, I go and try things here and there. I believe 10% of a great laptime comes from practised driving skills (that’s the conscious part of your brain that says “i need a better setup to beat this guy” ), 5% comes from actual setup and the other 80% comes from things you do without really knowing (the part of your brain which brings ease and pleasure from driving and that doesn’t give a dam if the setup is good as long as the lap feels good)
O cool, I really needed this, thank you so mutch, I'll watch it later tho! but this will help me big times!!! ( also, can we race one day - I'm not that good ;) )!
