Thanks for this adventure! It really felt like out of a movie, where the cute couple buys an old castle then starts to renovate it! Wish you good luck to find your dream home !
Hey dude 😎 thanks for the amazing comment! There actually was one small castle that we were keeping and eye on but unfortunately it was sold right before we moved here 😔 but we are not giving up and will keep on searching for the right home 🏠 😊
I feel this that you guys met and figured that you both are deeply bonded together. You guys just need each other and no one else in the world.Let me know with a like , you guys are a lovely couple
@Liba tal Klieb just so we're clear, I also make just above minimum wage here in Canada, so I am by no means going to turn into some slum lord of Liepaja. I still rent my apartment here in Montréal
Wonderful, congratulations! Can you please tell me where you got your bedding from? I’ve been looking for a duvet cover with small squares on it like that for years!
@@WeAreHarvestingdreams Ah, I’m in horrible UK 😞 I will look online, thank you so much! I just bought a 300 year old church in Shetland for 35K, which is v cheap for UK (without going in person 😦), I hope our houses go well for all of us! If you ever come to Shetland, you must come stay at the church, it’s called Sandness Church, but I’m not there yet. Latvia looks beautiful! I would love to visit there ♥️
Check h&m and Zara home they sometimes have very similar ones 😊 congratulations on you new home, someday soon hopefully you can move in and wife we go to Shetlands will take you up for the offer 😅 thanks for your support 😊
I wish you great luck in your house hunting, just a thought I would not isolate yourself to much I think you need some neighbours but obviously not to close. We are lucky to have good neighbour's that have helped us when we needed it that was my thinking for you because you never know what is round the corner and you may need help. Wonderful snowy views on your drive beautiful. Stay safe and warm.🏚👍
Hey dude 😎 thanks for watching and the wishes 😊 I guess we haven't had the best experience's when it comes to neighbors yet and that's why being alone sounds better for us, also we are quite used to being by ourselves 😊
An informative and entertaining video ! I am curious about taxes within those areas outside of the city ...and about regional services such as electricity, garbage pick up and road repairs ? What is the current costs of gas for example ? Thank and I'll look forward to further videos.
Hi thanks for watching! Taxes are the same all over the country. For income taxes we have researched it's almost one third of the income. Regional services like electricity garbage pickup and road repairs are done by local governments however they are not much different from the capital city. Roads might not always be as developed as in Riga, but we also noticed that some smaller cities actually have newer and better roads than big cities. Current gas price is about 1.849 euros and is slightly increasing by day. Hope this helps 😊 👍
ui real old houses, please be careful, also because of the size. We bought in Germany a house built in 1910, 89 square meters on two floors, we had to repair the roof, the electricity, partially water pipes, new stairs (were live dangerous), a ground plate was damaged so the cold from the ground came up (had to be fixed) outside the house, the walls it, a new entrance door, it was crazy. At the end we payed for reparing all that, as much as we payed for the house. I dont know how much friends you have that will help you for almost nothing. And how expensive materials are. Wish you luck, didnt want to destroy dreams, but take care ;)
Thanks a lot for sharing your experience it's always useful and interesting. Of course we realize it's going to no picnic 😅 these were just the first houses we checked out in our price range and it will definitely cost us a lot to do repairs, but we are willing to put in extra time and work to make something our own place one day 😊
Chow! I am married to my darling and she is latvian and we live in the UK. it is our dream to move to latvia when we are a bit older. Can i ask what internet sites you have used to find houses? if i google it from my country the prices are massively inflated! any and all sites you know would be appreciated! Chow!
Hey dude 😎 glad to hear that! Yes mostly we used ss.com which is also available in English. Yes the prices right now have been very inflated we were also shocked. You can check out our video about house update where we talk about the situation right now. 👌 Maybe you can find it useful 😊
TIPs from me as engeneer: 1. press toilet flushing 2!!! times. 2.roof 40 3.Water=30 Electric=30 if it is wet (NEVER buy) or pay+30 and most expenisve is YOUR TIME (say you calc 20 EUR/hour for you x 3 years for renovation = 220days * 3hours/day * 2person 20EUR/hour * 3years = 4.000 hours * 20EUR = 80.000 => 40+30+´30+80 => 180.000 EUR. Everything what you pay more then 1 EUR for the house is too much.
ATTENTION check fix on going costs: tax, cost for water and electricity - you have to pay the town or goverment - doest matter if you live in the house or not. So dont pay more then 1 EUR
As you talk in English and therefore talk to the world, you should have mentioned, that foreign citizens are not allowed to buy farmland in Latvia. They can buy the countryside building, but not the farmland, the building stands on. Foreigners are just allowed to rent the land for a limited period of time. I think that’s crucial to know. Before Latvia is overcrowded with strange (-r) 😉 people.

I also just bought property in Latvia, an nice cute apartment in Liepaja. It's insane how affordable a home is in this country compared to Canada.

better solution: Work 1 year very hard and get 200.000 and buy a better house. You save 2 years of your life. TIME is the most precious thing we have.
