There are a variety of ways to cinch your shoes, the most popular of which is a Standard Bow Knot. But tying a Bow Knot can take an average of two seconds to accomplish, and even the Tom Fool's Knot takes a whopping second to complete. I say you have better things to do with your time. In turn, I present a method of cinching your shoes that takes 0.5 seconds. That's right...you heard me correctly. Only 0.5 Seconds!
Hey JD. Just wanted to say thank you for sharing this video. My daughter has OCD very bad. One of her problems that we have had an issue with her shoelaces ever since she was able to tie shoes it has taken us half hour to 45 minutes to get her ready in the morning because her shoes and shoe laces have been an issue and not the correct way. We just tried this method on her shoe laces and we can say we finally can get out the door in minutes now. She loves it. Again thank you for all the videos you post. I know you do not have to do these videos but thank you. you do help a lot of people with the hobby or as in my case my daughters happiness and just tying her shoes
How to tie shoelaces
Growing up in a fishing town, this was always called a "fishermans knot" and was a means of tying two pieces of line together so that they would never accidentally come apart. Never occurred to me to tie my shoes with one, very clever indeed
Did you use paracord?
It’s called a fisherman’s knot everywhere

Dose this knot have a job application? Like trying two ends together and bringing something a little bit closer
it wont hold after wear n tear
Brian Haigh adjustable bracelets
Fisherman's knot
+TyingItAllTogether That's great what you're doing. Greetings from Russia!
This is a good know for those who can't lace em up due to lack of fine motor function like many of the elderly. I will be lacing up the geriatric population who visit my ER with this knot. Thanks.
:) This is the kniot I use to make paracord necklace adjustable. I would never have thought of this application. Too cool!
Thank god! I am done in doing and undoing my laces to the point it was driving me insane!! Thank you so much, you are an angel send down from the divine. I love your work.
WHOA NELLIE!!! Where was this video and knot when I needed it.
I've always done the bow-tie then kept the bows very short but they still found a way to loop themselves around my motorcycle's highway pegs. Removing said feet from pegs became scary when coming to a stop.
OK, so I re-laced this so the bow-tie is tied under the shoes tongue, therefore hidden. I see your method has NO LOOPS to catch anything.
I'll have to try this someday soon for SAFETY sake.
THANKS!
Standard lanyard knot, or sometimes called a fisherman's knot. This is a great knot to know in general, not just for shoes, though I never thought of that application. Awesome video!
Thank you. This is how I go about it now - Absolutely flawless
Haha, great video. I laughed and I learned. Keep it up!
thank you man i'm glad that someone did this. It really helped me as I cant tie my shoe laces thanks man......
Thank you so much for this video. You’d be surprised how much it helped
This is pretty clever. I'm going to give my work shoes this setup, because if it works loose I can still tighten it with my work gloves on. Great idea!
Video starts from 1:09 - Don’t waste those precious seconds of your life
Brilliant use of the fishermans knot! Great life hack man. Haha thank you!
Haha this would have been handy when i Was in the navy. Tying my boots took forever, and sometimes I had places to be quickly. Neat stuff
Thank you!!! very easy!
Thanks! it's looks cool and easy!
Muy bueno, gracias.AWESOME!!
Absolute gamechanger
Awesome.. saw Crazy Russian do it on tv but couldn't find a video of him doing this one & YOU popped up !! Thank you ..
I have to say JD,, that is one HELL of an idea.. I am disabled, and have some medical issues, I have been wearing shoe and not tying them,, for a few reasons.. I am going to try this today.......I think it may work for me. THANK YOU !
i LOVE it
thanks man
really helpfull
Nice ima do this with all my shoes, thanks bro...
I'm gonna try that myself!
U JUST BLEW MY MIND!
Why the hell didn't I think of this?! What a great idea!!!
Aa,that it was possible?!
🙌
Thanks you,master)))
Thanks good technique!
Genius ‼️
creativity releases soul
gonna start using this for my basketball shoes
Single fisherman's knot. Super useful in cord necklaces and bracelets.
its the same knot as a necklace adjuster - ive never heard of cinching in your shoes - im going to try in on my trainers thanks :)
Love this, and love all your tying talent! I just finished doing this technique to my tennis shoes. My husband has a pair of lace up boots and I bought one of those zipper placket inserts thingys, could you do a video on how to lace one of those into a boot? There are other videos out there, but I am just not liking how they turn out. Any thoughts?
Eres genial. : )
This is cool
That's so cool! Never would've thought to do that on a shoe.
Super bonito
Is there a more detailed version of this video I can't seem to get this down :/
Old post but this is especially nice for shoes that don't have much lace making it difficult to bow know or double knot. I have wide feet so the stock laces run short more often than knot...get it, knot 😂
Thank u. Mine r not moving easy.??!
I have hardware in my ankle. It swells so bad I can’t wear socks most days. Constantly messing with shoe laces to relieve pressure. Really hoping this will be a simple/quicker fix.
...I'm still on the paracord laces right now... if you want a good reliable boot lace... use logger's knot. :)
PS - thanks JD!
You're amazing. Someone should update your wiki. You invented a very useful trick . Thank you
I don't have a wiki.
lol
tam tam taaammmm
Two questions. Does it stay cinched during a hard application such as football, baseball, or soccer? And does it work with flat laces?
Works if you don't mind loose laces
neat!
Oh my freacking God, awesome! :D
***** Can i use standard shoelace instead of paracord cause' i can't find one ?
Great Idea. Is it stronger with a double fisherman's knot?
Maybe I'm knot-dyslexic. It looks like the first loop is bent until it's reversed and the second one isn't. In any case, that's the only way I was able to get it to match the final result in your video. But it works! Better than Lace Lock.
anybody try this on your wading boots at all?? would love to know if it holds..
Think this would be great for baby shoes and young kids before they learn to tie shoes.... awesome and simple!
I was hoping I could do it on my lil one shoes but its difficult for me
...looks great also with 450 paracord...
It looks nice and easy to make, but will it hold up under the shoe's movement, or will it push the two knots toward the middle as you put strain on the laces to keep the shoe tight?
...I've been walking in the shoes for about a week, no slip. If you're questionable, simply tie a double fisherman's knot. :-)
***** Alright, good. How comparable is 550 paracord in this situation? I use 550 in my shoes as laces, and I think they look nicer, but they do require some extra work to make sure they stay tight-they have the tendency to slip.
noseboy908 - Tie what you wish, with what you wish (I use 550 Paracord as well). My point is to re-think and inspire...tying. If this makes you re-think what is possible with cord, I'm fine...so long as it involves your tying to figure that out. :-)
***** I shall certainly do my best!
And what is a double fisherman's knot? Well, ok I can search it out myself.
Il try this hack for myself and see how it goes - i'm toying around with rope to learn.
Anyone? Is paracord best or can it be done with regular laces?
I have your book :):):):)
will it hold?
Nope. I tried it and its a waste of time. The shoe feels loose without that first overhand knot. Plus you have to tuck the shoelace ends into your socks unless you trim them short like in this video. Tucking will end up costing you more time. If you want to save time tying shoes and want a tight fit, down to the 2nd holes, just get some K-Swiss with the D rings.
So chic ....
What shoes are those, they're sick
What kind of shoes are those?
Wow.
You mean to tell me i could have tied cinched my shoes 196 times while watching this video, wow!
using 450 cord as shoelace. mind blown...
WHAT ARE THOSE!!!!!!!! (sorry had to be done)
this only works with round laces
my son hates tying his shoes so when I do this for him he'll be one happy camper
This video should have given the warning never to use flat shoe lace for this kind of tying since it's almost impossible to unbind where the ends go through each loop, round shoe lace works for this type.
Does it have to be done with paracord type shoestring? Can you do it with standard laces?
That's what I was wondering, too. I tried it on my sneakers with regular round laces and it didn't really work. One side would cinch and the other wouldn't. I'm not even sure what paracord is.
@@Jennifer-gc2tx paracord is used for some military uses and it has different weights ( such as 220 pound and many others.), it really handy stuff, you can make bracelets, belts, suspenders etc etc etc, look it up on Google, there are a ton of places to buy it and, other things(devices) you need to help you make those and other items. Check it out, there are many sites, and step by step instructional magazines, and tools to help you make items. Oh and in addition to the weights/strength of the paracord, there are dozens of colors, solid ones like red or black,to multi colored ones as well.
This doesn't work too well with regular shoe laces. I am definitely going to switch my laces with Paracord!
Nice tip, too bad that i wear Rangers ^^
Sorry but I tried so hard but still my lace doesn't work like that
mine tightened and won’t come untightened
does this work with Jordan's?
Think I messed up know cant undo knot
Cool))
Freakin awesome! I cinch and un-cinch my shoes once each per day... saving me one second a day X 365 = 6.08 minutes per year, hopefully I live another 50 years... for a grand total of 5 hours and 7 minutes saved. Thank you.
But wait, there's more. An average pair of shoes lasts 1 year. It took about 2 minutes to set up this quick knot up, x 50 years. Subtract 2 hours for a new grand total of 3 hours and 7 minutes saved.
Yeah, it is late and I'm bored.
Getsmart Hypnosis
Works quite well but you either can't get the knot super tight if you want it or you can't open it very far. But for my everday shoes it's perfect
That is a fisherman's knot if an ex boy scout ever saw one. Wouldn't the movement from steping on your foot and natural arch loosen the knot?
Failure I not getting it
Well damn... i can't get it to work. Works when only once side but with both sides, don't pull.
Damn, I failed. Can't figure out what is wrong. Tried with flat lace, round lace.
Update: work good with paracord. I guess it has too much friction and cinch down too much with anything other than paracord.
Where can I find this string (in France) ?
Amazon? I dont know if you have access there. Sorry if I'm being ignorant. Amazon is where I buy all my cord.
it's called paracord, it's used for parachutes as well as many other things, you can probably find them at an outdoors store, not sure what they have in france (sorry)
There was a video uploaded recently by a kid who showed this same exact thing... is that where you got the idea from? If so it would really be cool if you gave him some credit seeing as how it seems like you directly copied his video....
Now I'm totally confused. Been trying unsuccessfully
Are you using paracord or regular laces? I'm guessing it's best with paracord but I'm not positive that you can't do it with regular flat laces
Looks hard
You only have to tie it once (in a shoe's lifetime). :-)
Hey ... Guys... He TALKED
Isn't that a fisherman knot?
1:13
Это рыбацкий узел?Он может туго затянуться.
that's called a webber knot
Its not working
I think this only works with paracord
You are dropping the fact that one has to slip into and out of the shoe. With your fisherman's knot, it's impossible to either widen or tighten the shoe sufficiently because your double overhand knots hamper movements.
It doesn't work.
I havent learned the bow knot yeet...
Can you use music thats, I don't know, NORMAL. Becuase some of the music you use is sorta freaking me out
please make a hole video without cutting something
!
:)
♥
Cool, but doesn't work well with boots. Too bad.
You can switch your shoelaces out with paracord
Coleman Jenkins
I have. The laces that come with the boots are crap!
I appreciate your work JD, but this is a bit low-end for you isn't?
This isn't really practical, as we all know, it will not hold securely over time.
