I never get tired of listening to Josh's playing and this was yet another flawless performance. This man is a beast who has piad his dues on the scene and I love the fact that he is making more and more of a name for himself, and deservedly so!
This mans way of mixing styles is like a dream to me. He never makes the blues boring but also i never feel like he overplays.
Totally agree. Josh is brilliant
Josh is The Boss. But I do feel he often “over-playes” af bit. But it still sounds great :-)
@@goswo can let it breath a bit more i agree
Ever heard a 3 piece sound like a 9 piece? Smith is an absolute maestro!!! One of the greatest players ever!!
Josh Smith, heartbreakingly good playing . a real master of tone, timing and phrasing. a true guitar genius
So instead of rebuilding my pedalboard yet another time, the never-ending quest, maybe I should just spend the next year studying every round of 12 bars here... Whew! Bad assery abounds!
It's pure magic when he goes from soloing hard to old school slow jazz blues. Possibly the most complete guitarist out there at the moment.
I've always loved the middle ground of Chicago style gun slingers who have a solid understanding of modes and all the shit to do between passing tones. Josh is one of the best at this, if not the champ.
PS: I love the videos when Josh and Gales are playing together and both playing on fire. The cruise shit version of Joe B and Eric playing TBOJH. Fuckin killer.
1 word. Guthrie.
@@tonygodwinjr7390 imho guthrie is a better session musician because his technical skills vary from jazz to metal, but Josh is on another level as a mucisian. No diss to guthrie, I regard him as on the best technical guitarists of all time, but I stand by my first argument. Josh is probably the most complete guitarist out there.
@@alexisdrosopoulos oh I love Josh Smith. He definitely is one of the greatest of our time. I agree 150%. He plays with feeling and emotion in the moment while also changing it up the way he does. Its almost like a jam session from the soul.
@@tonygodwinjr7390 exactly and that's what makes it so great. He doesn't have to force anything, it comes so naturally to him
Diggin’ it all, and hearing “Mr. Sandman” in the middle of it all - what a kick!
Even the drummer smiled!
From musical homage full of quotes to original ideas that range from "I can play that" to "what the hell was that," this jam was a journey.
haha! spot on. From some simple timeless riffs to WTF!!!! Amazing :)
Tripletts into bends, so smooth i went wtf
This may be the best extended shuffle blues in E performance I've ever seen!
I have never posted “how could anyone dislike this” in a comment before now. Usually I just shrug it off. But c’mon! Josh probably doesn’t remember me, but I wrote him a personal check years ago and sent it to his home address for one of his early CDs. I’ve long since done away with my checkbook, but I’ll be damned if he didn’t pay me back tenfold with the Blues!
I've listened to a lot of greats, lucky enough to have seen some play, and indeed, have spent a lifetime trying to play myself. Josh Smith is as good as it gets, imo. And he's the logical successor to guys like Robbin Ford, Danny Gatton, etc, who could weave all these other influences into the blues. And Josh does it while maintaining a major part of what makes blues so compelling, the feel and the tone. Would love to see him live!
If I had to vote for the “best” guitarist right now it would be tough to not vote for Josh Smith. He is a complete guitarist. So impressive!
I love when blues and southern rock and jazz and country and bluegrass and everything is merged into one.
This is good music and I hope more will do this too.
I can only hope.
same bro.. he covered it all as far as I am concerned!!!!
WE can only hope! Americana at its finest!
People disliked? Wtf? This guy is currently the best guitarist I can think of. And I’m a big Stevie, Gary and Derek fan.
No kidding, eh? Josh smith is an amazing guitarist. Dislikes are probably PRS players, LOL😀
Hendrix lives under that hat in the form of a rat he incarnated into and controls joshs brain. Thats why he is never seen playing without a hat on
I believe Hendrix would just like us enjoying every note Josh played
I can copy Eric clapton and bb king but not this guy. Totally unpredictable plus good combination of Jazz and blues
5 people "dislike" this? My faith in mankind was already low...
TopTrax we have trump and Johnson in charge of the free world, faith in humanity left me a long while back
@@Chrisbloor32 Don't talk to me about that. Nausea and utter desperation.
Mate 25 now.
I've been listening to Joe Bonamassa, Robben Ford,Jack Person but this guy have his on stile, love it!
Fantastic player, totaly underrated, total pleasure for ears and soul!
who in his right mind underrates Josh Smith?
@@bunnys1980 I want say , too unknown on the blues galaxy!
Underrated?? Any one who knows thinks hes the best around
@@bunnys1980 I know it's been a year, but compared to blues god like Kingfish, Josh is wayy underrated, I just don't understand why all of my favourite musicians aren't bigger...
Never seen someone switch pickup positions so often during a solo. Brilliant!
I lost count!
and the design of the guitar allows this pretty effectively .... as does his tone count and feeling
Josh is amazing!! Another master using pickups and knobs, Michael Landau.
He's a student of SRV after all
This guy must’ve practiced 25 hours a day for 30 years. Beast.
Who’s going to tab it out for us? Lol
I wish someone would haha
The run at 2:55 has over the first two measures of the E is one of my favorite things I've heard in a long time. His timing is just so groovy.
Scorching stuff - real feel and the jazzy runs are blinding. I hate him..........!!
Like if you think Josh's Strat tone is better than his Tele tone!
The strat tone is so cliche and overdone since srv though
This guy is too cool. I don't know how he can play and sing at the same time with such conviction and coordination. Amazing!
I think Stevie would approve...
I don't know if I've ever seen anyone change what pickup they are on mid-solo quite as much as this dude. Insane.
Caleb McDaniel dude, srv
@@Memo146376 yeah. That's definitely a fair point
Freddie King
Also, you're right Josh Smith is amazing at the change pickup thing.
Mike landau is the king of pickup switching
Incredible touch, tone and phrasing. Something to aspire to.
Mr sandman bring a dream make him the cutest that I've ever seen.didn't expect that coming to this guy is a beast.
And a one Mr. Kirk Fletcher! What a happy humble Soul. And doesn't overplay like Josh.
By the look on the drummers face he didn't see it coming either
Jesus Christ, he’s an absolute monster
No.......He was a Savior.......................Josh.....a great Bluesman......monster Bluesman
Exactly
Que pedazo de guitarrista sos amigo
Can we all agree that Tshirt is equally awesome?
Love how he mix it together. Josh smith is pure gold. Awesome
Ist das Beste was ich an Bluesgitarre gesehen+ gehört habe. AND I HAVE SEEN A LOT. This Fusion of Blues(Jazz/Rock ist marvellous.
Hey, Mr. Sandman.
Come to Germany as soon as possible!!!!
Great camera work, makes it nice and easy to learn these licks!
An Amazing Talent with lots of soul in his bones, this is sweet!!🎸🎶
It’s great when he brings it down nice and quiet and then builds it back up
Mate, I've been a fretboard wanker for 30 years, and I've never seen skills like yours before. Bravo!
Haha 😄
What a monster! And every note slamming in the pocket.
Amazing ! Full of dynamics and variations within a clear form - never repetitive or cliche….also great vocals 💕👍
Josh so damn good 💯😎❤
Speechless
06:38 Bass player: “let’s try to follow the guy”. 06:41 : “f... it” 😂
The bass player is not in the same league
Andre Guitar Studio thing is, Josh’s league is pretty top notch super league 😅, so not easy. When I saw him in the UK, the bass player was great. Can’t remember his name 😔
06:41 Ok, I am done
06:09 chet atkins it´s alive, for ever
Woah, !! Reaching for that invisible whammy bar level,Haha !! when your so focused that your playing air guitar and actually playing a real guitar, that's in deep
Fantastic touch and sensibility ! One of the greatest today ! Thank you Mister Josh Smith !
Lessons well learned every time I watch his hands!!
Great video coverage BTW!!!!
Good blues man
That's a nice strat! Fat tone too ! The player is all over it.great combination!!!🎧🎶🎵🎶🎵
see he found the strat....best you can get
He grew up on the strat but said if he picks it up all that comes out is srv licks and the tele lets his own sound come out
@@joshmuz9018 Well, I heard a lot of non-SRV licks coming out of that strat!
@@jakollee that's his words not mine mate
@@joshmuz9018 I didn't mean to dispute your post, and if it came off that way, I'm sorry. I have no doubt you're correct that Josh Smith said that, and I can understand that he feels a Tele let's his own personality come through more. I was just saying his playing here on a strat doesn't call to mind SRV, to my ears. That's not meant as a knock on SRV or on Josh Smith. I enjoy Josh Smith's playing on any guitar, and I especially like this performance.
josh is a master of the old school and a great inspiration
FABOULOUS !!!!!!!!!! I love your blues
@1AnitrasDance Great perfromance ! how you record audio ? and which cam thanks
Josh is the very definition of "virtuoso." What a fine ass solo that was. Damn!!
Keep coming back to this clip...awesome trio led by the maestro. Drummer is sublime with his understated style and the bass fits in perfectly as well.
excellent bluesman Mr Josh Smith
Just amazing!
If anyone else is trying to learn this note for note, I'm begging you I need tabs for a few parts I cannot do it by hear in the parts that I'm stuck on
No doubt one of the finest players around... Too many notes for a Blues Moniker, however...IMHO.
Blujeaux Just curious...How many notes is too much?
Band is killer, great performance! Note to the venue - you need darker and better lighting. Way too clinical and bright.
I loved the lighting. Way better than having to deal with the red or blue of other venues. I'll take white light any day.
@@1AnitrasDance haha fair enough - we all have our preferences.
@@1AnitrasDance better lighting for lick-stealing!
Holyfkkk...!!! Josh is a monster
Awesome playing Josh Great Tone great Band ❤🎸
I think all 308,000 views have almost all been mine
Dude is an absolute beast. Period.
DuckTalesWooHoo1987 It’s an understatement in of itself to even say he’s a beast.
I love this song, and I hate comercials on you tube
zawsze chciałem zagrac takiego jama ale nie umie chyba .......boze daj
Man, what a player! 10 mins well spent.
59 thumbs down .... what is wrong with you guys ?
8seconds thumb up no regrets.... 💪
Legend.. enough said
Do something more. Please ?!!!?
He IS one of the BEST nowadays
S.R.V´s touch clearly
bass player: umm ok wtf josh.
Yeah, nice . Well, stunning actually ....
Name one solo that funks harder than this...
WHAT DOES HE WEAR UNDER HIS HAT ??? ... I think it's a BRAIN_BLUEZZZ_BOOSTAAHHH !!! ... or is it a BLUEZZZ_BRAIN_BOOSTAAHHH ??? ... superb !!!
jesus those pickup switches are clean
I just stole about 17 new licks!
I didn’t saw the pickups change
I bet he learned that mr sandman from Chet Atkins ,
Great merging of styles, clever Josh and band.
impresionante
Josh Smith 🙈just doesn’t get much better than that 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🥂👍🏻
Derek and Josh Collab soon!
Josh,you are crazy good!!!
THIS FUCKING GUY! man
Mind blown, brains on floor!
Masterpiece Josh
I listen to Josh since he was about 15 years old in Florida . I last saw him on Clematis street at Ray's Blues Bar in 2000 in WPB Fl. . My daughter and son and I were hanging out with him before his gig . He was still like a kid and I laugh when I think about my son offered him a piece of chewy gum and he said sure . There all in the same age group .My daughter plays guitar and has a video out produced by Chris Henderson from the band Three Doors Down . I like to see Josh and my daughter get together and do some songs together .She's writes her own material and is more rock n roll but Josh plays everything from country to bassa nova and everything in-between. She was living in Nashville at the time Josh was doing this gig there but must not heard he was playing otherwise would have went to see him .Chris Henderson her producer is based in Nashville also .A lot of the old school rockers have moved to Nashville for some reason ??? And she jammed with many of them .
Is there really anyone better at the moment ?
Frightening talent.
❤❤❤
