It is always so nice to spend time with you. I appreciate your honesty and vulnerability in sharing your emotions and reflections with us. It is so true how an object, be it a book or something else, is tied to who we are and who we have become. And how just holding an object can transport us to another place, if only for a few seconds, much like a photo can do. As always, thank you for sharing yourself and your time! I am looking forward to vlogtober!! ❤
What a fab video. I love the emotional/personal connections you’ve shared. Thank you Ali you never disappoint x
Oh thank you so much! 🤗
It’s my 47th birthday today and I get to watch a new video from my favourite UA-camr! Will definitely be watching Vlogtober ❤
Happy birthday 🎉 it’s my my 58th birthday today 👍 a good day for a birthday 😂
Happy Birthday Hayley!
@@deborahr2236happy birthday Deborah!!!
@@ll29123 thank you!
@@deborahr2236 thank you! Happy Birthday to you too
Love your theme today. Settled down with my mug of tea and crocheting a vest and enjoying. I need to organize my book shelves too. Cheers from Canada!
Noticed the book Milly Molly Mandy, that takes me back.
I think I read every Milly Molly Mandy book from the local library more than once.
Me too!
Oh I loved Milly Molly Mandy so much - I bought a new copy to read with Phoebe when she was younger (as my original is falling apart) and the illustrations are just perfect :)
I could listen to you talk about books for days. That special edition of The invisible life of Addie La Rue is beautiful! I read that book because of you and I absolutely loved it so thank you Ali. Looking forward to Vlogtober.
I am so happy you enjoyed it! One of my favourite reads of the year, so magical :) Thank you! xx
I finished reading The Invisible life of Addie La Rue a few weeks ago and absolutely loved it! Thank you for sharing your books!
This was such a wonderfully cosy watch as I prep and edit content today, thank you! ☺️💛
A lovely trip down memory lane with your books and it’s made me want to sort my books out and maybe read some again 😊
Thanks Ali for the Rosetta Stone subscription discount. My son-in-law speaks Spanish and I've been wanting to learn Spanish for awhile now. Totally understand holding onto books from the past. I have one that I read in 1970 and finally found a copy a few years ago in a 2nd hand bookshop in Melbourne Victoria, Oz. 😊
Hasta la semana que viene, Ali ❤ Gracias , this chat was soooo delicious 📚
I have a much treasured copy of Jane Eyre that my aunt gave me when I was probably ten. It’s been read and re-read and reminds me of my aunt who sadly died at 39 from ovarian cancer.
I love my books that are from special times of life. ❤ I read several of Jane Green’s books back in the day. That dinner sounded good!
I LOVED the Addie le Rue book, I also listened to it for free on Audible. I've added the special edition to my wish list 😅 I have a couple of special books from my childhood that I've managed to keep hold of. Mostly clothbound fairy tale books from a set, Heidi, Brothers Grimm tales, things like that. They now sit on my son's book shelves for when he's ready to read them.
Well Ali, I thoroughly enjoyed your ramblings on books! It must be rubbing off on me I have now read two books 😮 Sorry your suffering with menopause, but so glad you are getting help, so much more awareness now for women in this time of their lives. I can order two cups of coffee with milk in Spanish 😅 We went to Kefelonia before the film/book was made loved it very special memories, about 5-6 years married about that time. Wonderful that you are doing Vlogtober, what a treat 🥰 Love & Hugs, Suze.🤗📚🐓xxx
I have my grandmas copy of 'gone with the wind' that looks like your dads catch 22. I read it and loved it and I will always hold it so dear. It has an advert for the wonders of showers in it that she used as a book mark. love it.
That is utterly lovely 💓
I enjoy your videos so much, you keep me company while im crocheting. I cant wait for your vlogtober 🧶🎃💜
Loved this chat. My daughter left for university in August. So bittersweet!
I hope you are coping ok Kristina...Lillia goes this weekend and I am so excited for her but it is very strange. Bittersweet is exactly the right word! 🤗
Oh Ali! I absolutely loved Teddy Robinson!! ❤
🤗 I've never found anyone else who had heard of it! 💓
Love the longer video and a review of books, Ali. Regarding the runny nose, I don't think it will go away after menopause. It didn't for me--seems like when I eat it happens!
Snap. I recently got my copy of Jemima J off the shelf to reread. I remember loving it originally. Hope it is as good this time around. Love your vlogs, both channels, thank you.
I have been inspired Ali & have just ordered a copy of The invisible life of Addie La Rue.
Your special edition is beautiful ❤
Oh I hope you enjoy it Michele! x
Hello Ali
Thanks for the lovely visit📖
Can’t wait for Vlogtober🎉
Take care💐☕️🍰
I m peri menopause too at 46 sent you a message before about my daughter Lily starting uni we took her Friday broke my heart doing so now me and my husband don’t know what to do with ourselves with no kids at home. She’s doing well and that’s all that matters but we miss her so much already. I keep walking round the house de cluttering got rid of so much stuff just to keep me busy x
I know exactly what you mean about Jemima J. It was one of my beloved books too. I re read it a couple of years ago and it's definitely strange to do so with the benefit of today's food/nutrition/life style knowledge. I still enjoyed the main premise though.
I definitely want to reread to experience the story again so many years later, I adored it at the time! x
Loved this video about books 💞📖. Can’t wait for October vlogs 🍂🍄🟫🍂 hopefully more books included 🍂🧡📖🍁
Love books..Love ur channel too. Waiting for Oct.
Lovely round up of your books will definitely be watching vlogtober 🥰. Oh I remember reading A Special Relationship. Captain Corelli’s Mandolin 💕
I read the Jemmima J back in the 90's too.
Lovely vlog as usual. I know exactly what you mean re Jane Green books. I loved Jemima J, I must've read it the same time as you lol. I loved it then, and read the next few that came out. I seem to remember after about 7 books her writing changed and I wasn't keen. Might start Jemima J again to see how it fares now. Thanks for reminding me. At the time, it was a great book so we shall see xx
Great video, thankyou Ali. We don’t always coincide with our book choices (though the Tudor Wives series makes up for that!) but there are a few in this lot that I would definitely like to try. Take care xx
Thank you so much for reminding me of Jemima J, I've just bought it for Kindle (it's on sale for a quid) I remember loving it years ago so it'll be interesting to see how it holds up.
October can't wait.Take care b safe
Hi Ali, we have birthday week coming up, our 2 girls have birthdays on the 21st 25th of September so by the time vlogtober comes I'll be so ready to chill with you and my crochet blanket i am currently working on... ❤
Hi Ali. I read the Alice network a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. I spotted the Six Tudor queen’s series in the library a few weeks ago. Not the type of thing I would normally read but thought I’d give it a go after hearing you mention them. I’m now almost finished book four. Oh they’re so good. Thank you for another fun vlog.
I was the same Nicola - didn't think they were my kind of thing until I heard What Victoria Read talking about them and gave them a try, then got hooked! Thank you lovely 💓
Big Ann Patchett fan. Her nonfiction is equally excellent. Currently reading "Sweet Sweet Revenge Ltd" and it's most entertaining. I too often connect books with specific periods in my life and even seeing the spine can take me right back (for better or worse!). 😂
Thank you! I have only ever read Bel Canto by Ann Patchett - sounds like I need to add some of hers to my TBR definitely! xx
For books that you want to keep but don't want to read again because of the dated content etc, you could try your hand at book folding and keep them as an art piece instead. Terry Pratchett is fantastic, I reread them all the time.
The Keeper of Lost Things is one of the best books that I have read. I never got a note!!
Oooh this makes me even more excited to read it! I think my mum may be overthinking the note 😅
Love these kind of vlogs. Thank you ❤I've read a few you have recommended. I loved jemima j by jane green x
Lovely episode! To be honest, i'm not that into books, but it's nice to hear you talk about it and of all the memories that lay between the pages. Can't wait for vlogtober! I'm already getting in the mood by binge watching your vlogtober from 2023. Curious about the pumpkins you'll be picking and carving this year!
Thank you ! 💛 I have some ideas for pumpkins already this year! 🎃
Hi Ali, I do love a book vlog, and your t-shirt is just perfect 🥰 I am currently reading through my daughters Harry Potter books, I'm on book 4 at the moment. They are so much better than the movies but then what book isn't 😄 x ❤
Thank you 💛 Oh I have some pumpkin ideas! 🎃xx
Of course I'll be with you for vlogtober!
Aw 🤗 Thank you Kelly xx
Yay! Vlogtober! 🎃 🍂 🍃 🍁 🍎
Yay! 🦇👻🎃
I think Captain Corelli's Mandolin became very popular when the movie was released in 2001. I don't recall whether you said you have seen the movie. If not, it's worth watching
Felicidades tu amiga, yvonne💐
Hola Yvonne! I could work out some of this lovely comment...but had to cheat a bit and use Translate for some of it too 🫣 Thank you so much! I am enjoying learning Spanish! Hopefully next time I go I will feel more confident :) x
Hi Ali, such a treat to watch a nice long book chat 📚
I have just finished Shrines of Gaiety by Kate Atkinson, which i enjoyed although not as much as her previous books. I am just starting a Talent for Murder by Peter Swanson, another favourite author, i think it would be classed as literary crime.
I also read and loved Jemima J, i was a big Jane Green fan too but at some point drifted away from her books, probably for similar reasons.
Thank you so much Ali, its always a joy when one of your videos pops up ❤
Very much looking forward to vlogtober 🎉
Thank you Michele! It'll be interesting to re-read Jemima-J, I adored it at the time. I shall look up Peter Swanson, thanks for mentioning! See you in Vlogtober 🎃
oh, we don't have smellovision any way. You look great. Yes, see you for Vlogtober
Hi Ali my selections for books are such a mix. I currently have a dog without hope by Barby Keel, fragile lives by professor Stephen Westaby, The secret doctor, the new mother by Norah Murphy, in my time of dying by Sebastian Junger ( I'll try it once) and the gas man by Colin Black. All these are from the library. I tend to go for anything medical or about animals or sometimes modern romance. My dad liked various authors including julian Barnes and others I can't remember right now. He wanted to write and always had pen and paper ready when inspiration struck. He wrote many things most of them funny to read. Wicked sense of humour😀 loved the vlog Ali as always and vlogtober is going to be another Ali treat😃 take care x
I can finally put a face to the name (well, a face and another name to the name 😅) xx So many books on the go! I will enjoy looking these ones up and finding out more 🦞🦞
Que maravilla que estés aprendiendo español! es un idioma precioso. Te sigo hace años, me encantan tus videos. I'm writing in spanish so you can practice 😉 saludos desde Chile!
🤗 haha, thank you! I had to cheat with Google for some of it, but I got the first bit and the last! Gracias! xx
Sorry to hear menopause has been so challenging for you, but very glad to know you have a helpful GP. Thank you for making videos for us in the midst of your challenges. They are a lot of work at the best of times, but I feel you deserve extra thank yous for making them while coping with menopause mood swings and Lillia's impending leaving for college. So thank you, Ali! I just read 2 books I loved. I seem to be seeking humorous and not too taxing reads at the minute. Best eyeball read was Major Pettigrew's Last Stand by Helen Simonson. It has tremendous humour, but also an underlying theme of overcoming racism. Loved it! Favourite recent Audible read was D is for Death by Harriet F. Townson. It's a very entertaining and witty mystery that made me laugh. Sending hugs fron Nova Scotia, and looking forward to Vlogtober. ❤❤❤
Thank you Kathleen 💛 It's certainly been tricky but making vlogs, editing etc is such a great outlet, so thanks for being here! I have made a note of these two books - they both sound right up my street! xx
@@ThisLittleWonderfulLife I hope you enjoy them! 💛💛💛
Hi Ali!
I was wondering if you might be doing anything with WILD soon? I was eyeing up their autumn leaves 🍁 new scent.
It’s nice to know more about why you keep certain books. It’s a lot to keep books and their shelves dusted!
I will be working with them in November I think! Autumn leaves scent though...! Might have to treat myself! 🍂
Catch 22 - Just back from Bloody Scotland, the crime writing festival, and Catch 22 was name checked a couple of times, so it's gone onto my to be read list.
It's a sign! Also - I just googled Bloody Scotland and it looks so good! Did you enjoy it? x
@@ThisLittleWonderfulLife It was excellent - back to pre pandemic attendance levels. Went with three members of my book group and we had a blast. Reading for the winter established! So many books so little time. 😄
I have just done Vlogtember but I am considering doing Vlogtober too - am I mad. Not sure about the runny nose with perimenopause- it’s itchy ears with me!! Enjoyed you talking about all of the books. There are a few I have read and forgot about. I have fallen off reading recently but it’s made me want to get reading again xx
Hi love your videos and I am from Port Elizabeth South Africa 🇿🇦. Just want tell you that you must feed your chickens mergold flowers as it is very goid for them😊😊
ooo! I grew some marigolds this year and they nibbled them! 🌻
Lovely vlog, I always enjoy sharing books. I read The Keeper of Lost Things when it was first published, and although I enjoyed it, it didn’t come complete with a reminder … I wonder if someone was reviewing the book and the note was a reminder for them to return to that part? Just a thought, I wonder what others may think. I really like reading seasonally and I’ve just finished ‘ The Lost Bookshop’ by Evie Woods, I was enthralled. I also have finished listening to ‘ The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches’ by Sangu Mandanna. I enjoyed it so much I think I’ll buy the book and read it next year. Looking forward to Vlogtober xx
Thank you! I enjoyed the Lost Bookshop too! I think I listened on audio. I like the sound of the Very Secret Society one, I shall look that one up :) I am about the start Hex and Hexability :) x
❤❤❤
Can’t wait for your vlogtober 🎉
🤗
The only book I have ever written in is Louis de Bernier “ captain correli’s mandolin “ if he could use an obscure word he did 😤 I had to have a dictionary to understand & wrote the meaning in the margins it totally spoilt the book for me & so watched the film when it was released ( I cannot pass a word if I don’t understand ) & this was my nightmare book never ever to be re read 😂🤣 I often see it in charity shops & remember all to well 🤔 I enjoyed watching your book shelf debate
See you Vlogtober 👍
I'm doing Vlogtober on my channel as well! 😊❤
Yay Amie! I shall make a note of that - not long to go now! 🎃🦇👻
Fantastic video, will happily listen to you rambling. Hugh Grant was reading Captain Corelli sitting on a park bench at the end of Notting Hill - he apparently called the scene nauseating. I really enjoyed The Keeper of Lost things when I read it - time for a reread I reckon. Looking forward to Vlogtober x
Bra and deodorant on and face washed DEFINITELY counts as dressed! 😂👌
I love your top. where did you get it ?
It's from Primark! xx
@@ThisLittleWonderfulLife O I need a trip to Primark. I just got a top with snoopy on it with a goast it says Spooky 👻 from Asda. I will be wearing it all year round lol 😆
