  • The stunning coastline of North Wales is home to some superb fish, this video focuses on Pollock, specifically some of the tactics I've employed this year to drastically improve my catch rate, consistently shooting good fish.
Whilst Bass are the main target species when spearfishing in Wales, Pollock live in the most interesting areas, deep with lots of structure.
Large numbers of Seals are also present, and it's fun to freedive with them

Hopefully it’ll inspire more people to try Spearfishing up here, just as good as the S coast if not better

That was an awesome video buddy! Top quality content as always! Love seeing places I know being dived, I’ve never got in at the spot you went to at the end but I’ve been round there in a boat, currents on the back side of the islands were just insane, looked really fishy, good to see it produced the goods!

Also, that dip into Pwllheli marina at the end 😅 that would have given me the willies! Good job on finding the camera, probably the last thing you wanted to do at the end of the day!

Cheers, some of the marks just off the main flow are great aren’t they. I’ve had a lot more success in the current, know you get a lot of fish in the stringweed but it’s a V different style of diving. Heard there’s some big Pollock off Bardsey so need to try that next year, met a few guys using them as bait to target Portbeagle!

@@jackmetcalfe8542 some decent pollock are definitely on my list for next year - there are some good spots either side of Hells Mouth that I’ve been to, seems be be a late in the year thing though. I’d love to dive Bardsey, those currents though, utterly terrifying! I did see a video on here years ago of some divers diving around Bardsey, there were literally lobsters everywhere, I’ve never seen anything like it. I’m hoping to get a decent boat this coming year so hopefully I’ll be able to get out to a lot more of these spots 🤞🏼although the thought of bumping into a Portbeagle… not so appealing! There used to be a Portbeagle off Portland that used to scare the shit out of spearos on a semi-regular basis. Also chatted to a guy in Guernsey who, after a few Portbeagles were netted in a certain shallow bay, used to go out with his brother at night with torches and giant blue water tuna gun trying to spear one 😂

Awesome video dude! Pollock can be tricky to judge the size sometimes. You got some lovely fish overall though mate, should make for some excellent fish and chips!
I love the analytical style of the video, fantastic for people to learn from 😎👍

Cheers Tony, glad you enjoyed it! Particularly enjoy eating a good thick fillet of Pollock. To be fair though the smaller ones are tasty baked whole, they're a really underrated fish

What’s visibility like in the rhosneigr area in general? When I went it was a foot or two and it didn’t get any better. Is June just a bad time of year?
