    I thought was having fair knowledge of the hypersonic but the way MG Bedi explained from start and accelerate through each step on aerodynamic and simple analogy is amazing. Literally a crash course on spoken knowledge for anyone to know the subject and it’s warfare applications. Thanks for impressive post. Keep Rolling more posts 😊

    Just an explanatory Comment - Scramjet - SC - Supersonic Combustion - ramjet. Flow behind a normal shock wave, normal to the surface that is perpendicular, is always subsonic. As the speed increases the shockwave starts to become oblique. Flow behind an oblique shock wave can be supersonic. Hence, in scramjet the flow behind an oblique shockwave, which is supersonic, is used for combustion. Thanks

    "Reaction time should be less that Resident time". Air breathing missiles could not have been demystified better. Thank your Air Marshal Bedi for once again, succinctly and beautifully explaining technological concepts.
    The only question that flashed my mind and went unanswered relates to the operational time of the Scramjet engine. Air Marshal cited the different time spans the Russians, Chinese and us (Indians) have operated the Scramjet. Is Scramjet a "once and done" operation in the entire trajectory of the missile?

    • @gurcharanbedi204
      @gurcharanbedi204 Рік тому +1

      Thank you very much for your interest and endorsement Sir, deeply appreciate that. By definition, air breathing engines should be controllable, like a normal jet engine. Problem with scramjet in weapons is that, one you’ll lose it with the weapon anyways. Secondly, since the weapon once accelerated to hypersonic, one wouldn’t want to decelerate it now hence can’t come off this regime. This would be possible say in commercial applications, where one has to land back. X-15 a manned mission was tested for this. But for commercial applications, the technology will have to improve to longer duration operations. As of now, it’s been tested to max 600 secs. Hope this answers some of it. Please feel free to ask further if any doubts. Thanks and Regards

      @@gurcharanbedi204
      Please allow me Sir, to start with, by thanking you for your service to the nation; actually continuing service through your post retirement appearances on channels like Def Talks with Aadi. Listeners like me greatly cherish the information and views shared by 'practitioners' like you; bringing to the table immense background knowledge, clarity and depth on matters discussed on this channel.
      I, therefore, feel greatly honoured to receive your personal response to my unanswered query. And yes, it absolutely did answer my doubt. Expendability of all missile components notwithstanding; the second point of not wanting to decelerate was very interesting. Makes me ask a rather amateur question, why not? Mid-course maneuverability imparts considerable survivability / lethality to an aggressor missile against Air Defence systems. Wouldn't variable velocities enhance it? But that is a rhetorical question and you've already cited technological challenges at longer duration operations for Scramjet.
      Meanwhile another statement you made in the episode in relation to the race for hypersonics among major nations caught my attention; "The US is in an entirely different race". My acquired knowledge through different forums and open sources suggests that the US primarily fields sub-sonic missiles; but equipped with Stealth capabilities and electronic countermeasures. And it is the Stealth Technology that carries as much enigma as it attracts hype. As with any technology, Stealth too comes with its own Pros and Cons. Unless you've already done an episode demystifying Stealth; I hope you and Aadi consider it worthwhile putting together one for the benefit of the listeners on this Channel.
      Once again, thank you for your very valuable service and it is an immense pleasure listening to you distil complex technological concepts into easily understandable and digestible morsels.
      Warm Regards.

    • @gurcharanbedi204
      @gurcharanbedi204 Рік тому +1

      Thanks once again. It’s a pleasure to indulge with inquisitive minds. See, as of now it’s the rockets that accelerate the missile or boost glide vehicle to hypersonic where scramjet would kick in. Now if you want to come off it, either you’ll need another stage of rocket or a ramjet to kick in - both would increase the weight and adversely affect the performance without much gain. Trick is to have manoeuvrability at hypersonic speeds. Sure we can do an episode on stealth. Thanks for the suggestion. Warm Regards
