The best part about this is that you can tell this dude absolutely loves what he does.
Exactly. Quickly becoming my favorite artist on UA-cam.
I envy this guy so much
...and his wife. This dude's got it figured out.
This is like a manifestation of what was in our 5-disk CD changer in the Summer of 2001.
You know the type....the one in the extended cab door !
Was about to like... But than saw it had 182 likes
bruh you aint lying... some 2000s warped tour vibes
nostalgia hits
The magic of these covers is that we can all sing along to a brand new song, and feel like we’ve accomplished something in doing it.
🔥🔥🔥
i agree dude
Well said
I knew the na na na section was gonna fuckin slap and i was not disappointed
This went from feeling like a song about a dreamy hippie/southern girl to a song about a manic pixie dream girl. Absolutely love it.
And in reality, it is about Monahan's dead mum.
You are so welcome to the world and you have to tell us who ?😊😊😊
So this is kinda like shoegaze? At least, that's how your commentary description read to me
@@brocsewellwell, that's the new thing I learned today then
Why don’t you marry it then!? Christ…
People and their cringe comments
This man simply DOES NOT miss. Criminally underrated
100%. He knows EXACTLY what he's doing.
Can’t call it underrated, man. Nobody I’ve seen here is rating him low, just doesn’t have the exposure he deserves.
Arrest him immediately. 💚
Needs a record deal so talented
Composition ✅
Mix ✅
Certified Banger ✅
This man understands what makes pop punk sound so damn good.
This was my 11-year-old self's favorite song, so to hear it combined with my 15-year-old self's (um and also my current 33-year-old self's) favorite music genre is truly so sublime.
I had to check the release date because I was convinced the maths didn't work out. This song did indeed come out in 2001!
Sounds nothing like sublime
It was never a phase mom. I'm not okay I promise
Add in the 43-year old’s need for nostalgia as well and I’m right there with ya😅
Goddamn it, now I have to go listen to Sublime.
I love the arrangement of these "Pop goes Punk" stuff, but also really love the "producer" notes explaining how you can change the song in order to induce certain emotions or feelings.
YES! I love how he included a synopsis of his process for us. Really helps us see behind the curtains of creativity.
Yes! This additional info is GOLD!
Shows the talent and knowledge of the music. Helps me who loves to listen but never played an instrument .
the drum work, the new harmony/melody lines, the rhythm changes, its all so good
It’s awesome OVERLOAD!!!
This sounds like it's right out of an early 2000s vans warped tour and drive-thru records single
Dtr!!!
Giving "Relient K" in the best of ways! Incredible work as always, AM!
Straight up relient K vibes. Sounds like something they would’ve covered at one of their concerts back in the day
@@mendoza2489 💯
Relient K meets A Day To Remember - two of my faves
You nailed it! Now I need to get those albums out and listen through.
HUGE Relient K vibes; I especially feel like the guitar part matches Hoopes' style to a tee. RK has remained my favorite band since childhood (and I'm hoping some recent rumors of new material from them actually materialize), so the level of nostalgia this gave me can't be overstated 🥹
I was profoundly ashamed of not having heard of you less than a minute into this masterpiece, thinking, wow, the immeasurable joy I missed out on just by not having this treasure locked and loaded in a playlist on a bad day. Then you started chatting with your wife about it, and I went from “this guy’s pretty good I should check out the rest of his stuff” to “I’m sold where’s my Spotify so I can follow this guy and litter every playlist I have with more of this pure genius.” Don’t quite know why but I dig the cut of your jib, and your wife sounds like a wonderful partner in life. Keep up the good work.
Alex is the personification of Punk Goes Pop.
The post-wife discussion is everything to me! Great version of this song, and definitely on my playlists now!
I saw post-wife and was worried he got divorced 😂😅
"Post-wife" is DEFINITELY NOT the way to say that 🤣
Please say post-song discussion so no one thinks there was a tragedy...
Hilarious. It’s great where a comment on a comment can lead us 😆
You’ve nailed down the science of creating covers. Everything about this song is how a cover should be. Adding new elements to it but yet keeping the same features that made the song good in the first place.
Having notifications on for this dude is like getting an alert that your favorite band just came out with a new single. I was half expecting VH1 pop up video effects after that intro tutorial lol
Also I gotta say, I agree with your wife on that full-stop... was ready for a circle pit to be started in my 9-5.
The first line of lyrics sold me on the whole fucking cover. This shit was INSANE
I love that you let us see part of your process with this one! This cover was amazing!!!
Train been real quiet since this released
Mad respect to Madison for refusing to be filmed. We stan an anti-surveillance queen!
jk lol but seriously when will she sing on a track again? She's so good!
True. I know you're joking but there's some weird couples here on the internet. There's this bodybuilder dude that just films weird angles of his wife in tight spandex and a lot more of these weirdos that just weaponized the male-gaze to get views. Even using their spouses. Anyways, great banter between Mr and Mrs Melton towards the end there. Loved to hear it.
@@floatingdisembodiedhead8975 how trashy why would you want to do that, i can't understand. doubt it'll last.
@@Artcore103 probably to get more views because they know the core demographics are from these young testosterone-filled adults and teenagers. It's honestly weird how comfortable people are getting with showing their significant other in skimpy clothing for strangers on the internet.
Which track was she on?
@@floatingdisembodiedhead8975
Well, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it if everybody involved wants to do what they're doing.
The quick rhythmical breakdown at 2:54 induces a musicians stank face, as well as the the voice break at 4:31 on the word “chance”. I could go on about every little detail that you just absolutely nailed man. Woof 👏🏼
Another Alex Melton banger. I love it when you upload new pop punk anthems it always somehow works out
Not only did this make my day - but seeing that it's also available to stream made it even better
My man over here just casually rearranging my entire adolescence with his genius.
Post song discussion with my wife is absolutely fantastic. Please make it a recurring feature. Also, as always, absolute banger. Great work
The thing is, Drops of Jupiter is my all time favorite song, and you just did the impossible: you make me love it even more
You are an absolute baller of a musician! This is completely recognizable, and yet still so new and fresh! I LOVE IT!
I never knew i needed a pop-punk version of this song until today.
I heard that a band called Train did a cover of this song. But nothing beats Alex’s his version!
This song had always been a guilty pleasure. This might be one of your best covers yet! Absolutely killed it!!
Why a guilty pleasure?
Anyone who has ever loved this song needs to hear this cover! WE got to the chorus and I was leaning back for the halftime and it didn't come. But then.... it totally dropped in hard right after with the guitar lead and it was so sick! Well done good sir, well done.
I immediately thought oh HELL yes
To be fair I think "Hell yes" every time I see one of his videos
i can't, for the life of me, comprehend why you don't have more subs. You really deserve it dude! High quality content! So enjoyable! :)
Yeah the ending interview was 🤟
God damn you Alex, you got me smiling from the first lyric--
You really, _really_ get this style, and it is perfection. Every song you play somehow instantly evokes the memory of hearing those CDs all those years ago, and that is pure fucking talent.
YOU DESERVE TO BLOW UP; maybe Gen-Z will find you when 2004core comes back around as retro (imminently!).
I used to cover this in it's original key and it would wipe me out each night...
So you modulate it a full step! 😂
I never wanna hear you complain about the paramore vocals again Al!
The excitement is real every time I see a new video from you!🤘🏼
We second this!!
I'm realizing how much effort you put in to these videos, and how much talent you have and it's insane! Keep goin man this is great.
This is not an easy feat at all. Very impressive
I'm loving the post song chat, and the cover is just outrageous. That guitar work and the drums are just *chef kiss*
I miss this type of music
This is one of my favorites you've done. And you have gotten SO much better on drums since I started following you. Great stuff, dude!
EDIT: I didn't know you were a Southern Boy. From a Louisiana native, SALUTE!!!
EDIT #2: You and your wife are adorable.
Bro it’s not even like because the idea is good but your different parts from each instrument are soooo creative
As someone from the original lead singer's hometown (whose mom was also a heavy smoker and passed away) I wholeheartedly support this cover! Superb work as always man 🤘
mad The Dangerouis summer vibes from this, love it
Genuinely went from one of my most reviled/overplayed songs to a new favorite. This man is a WIZARD, Harry!
First video of yours I have ever seen. Brilliant!
I’m convinced Alex could cover any song and turn it into his own unique musical genius. Love his work! 🤟🏻
Holiest of Cows! Such a wonderful version. You killed it. Kinda gives Four Year Strong vibes.
For sure!! I loved it!!
LOVE the behind the scenes on how Alex puts his spin on the song, been wanting something like this for a while. Would maybe be good to have it as a separate video? Tough to add them to UA-cam playlists when I just want a bunch of songs to play without the commentaries.
Awesome cover, and love that discussion afterwards!
- My husband and I just discovered you a few weeks ago. New subscribers here:)
- Also, your wife's favorite part of this song is also my favorite part! 😁🤙🏽
❤❤ totally nailed it!! Fun and breathes freah air into this absolute golden version. Well done!
This channel has really rekindled my love of the pop punk genre.
HOLY ISH my heart is pumping... Mainly because I was singing along with the same rock vibe that my neighbors are probably mad about right now, but I don't care, that was BANGIN!!!
I’d love to see you do a “If Home Grown wrote…” They were a super underrated band with a unique pop punk sound.
Love it! I really liked the progression at the beginning where you explained how you changed the song in steps. Really cool
This is wonderful. I love how your covers are more of a re-imagining. Thanks for putting the effort in to make these alongside your own music.
I really enjoyed the extra information given at the beginning and the chatting with your wife at the end, I hope those elements can continue into the future if they're not too much extra work.
Another amazing cover, Alex. And great new feature of adding the interview with Ze wife.
Your an inspiration my dude! Never stop making these please 🙏
I love the post song discussion. Very sweet, and I love you guys!
When I talked to you on your tour you told me your wife’s favorite band is Yellowcard so I’m stoked to hear her takes on your work
What a fantastic cover, so creative. Always inspring to hear how something familiar can be made into something completely new (and awesome). Great job.
Goddamn, these are so good.
This is the song that my mom and dad danced to when they first met. Love this version!!!
I prefer this version
As a French-American I appreciate "to ze Milkay Way" greatly. Also absolutely loved the "how-to" and the post song discussion.
Great job on this one Alex. I never liked the original, but as usual you turned it into a pop punk masterpiece. You should be a headliner on any new ‘Punk Goes … ‘ album.
me 3 days ago: "eh - not a huge Drops of Jupiter fan. I'll get to this eventually."
me today: "oh right, Alex did it. It GOES."
Literally me after 5 months lmao.
I like it! It's super well done! I can't help but feel though, and this is the first time I have this with an Alex song, that a little simpler would've been better. For my taste there's too many rhythmic breaks and variations and such. But again, super super well done. I can't believe how good you've gotten at everything
8:19 “That’s called buying a sweater.”
Great sense of humor and awesome job with this banger!
I really thought "to ze milky way" was intentional! Might just end up listening to this instead of the original when I feel like listening to this again. 😄 I also really enjoyed the post-wife discussion, do it again!
I wish this was the version that came out all those years ago....you are talent personified.
You always know the key change that's going to take a song to the next level! Excellent as always!
I always hope Alex Melton reads the comments, I love his works and he seems really passionate.
I have an entire playlist titled, "Honestly, The Cover Was Better." This has made the cut.
Dude who is this guy! Why is he not famous?!?! The science behind his work is ridiculous amazing
Moar wife duets pleeeease!!!
I came for the premise, stayed for the music, subbed for the informative explanation of how it was done! Looking forward to the next one!
Already loved the song. This remake is such a great twist.
The ending chat is great! Love that as a segment.
Yeessss I've been eagerly awaiting this since the IG teaser a couple of weeks ago!
really well done..loved the explanation intro that was brief, straight into the song, and the post-song discussion was cool!
This is incredible and fantastic.
If the world were fair, you would have a hundred million followers!!!
You have such a great skill for keeping the best parts of a song while still completely changing it.
I just found you last week. Great playing. Great voice. Love your understated vibe and how you let the music be the experience. Awesome.
i love this type of behind the scenes / idea stuff.
I always listen to your stuff at night and feel many emotions
Every time I watch this it puts the hugest smile on my face, great job man.
lol I love how she’s slowly making herself comfortable with being in the video. Sweet cover
I don’t know how I stumbled upon this video, but I am in absolute shock at the level of talent I’m witnessing.
Bro, this might be your best work so far! HUGE FAN and can't wait to see you tour!
Hearing one of my favorite songs ever in my favorite style ever: Priceless. Thank you.
I'd love to see a video that goes even deeper into your process - like, a long video that shows us how you get from the song choice, to taking it to the piano, to guitar or however you build it. I can wrap my head around how you'd figure it out as a band trying stuff out, but as a solitary musician, It blows my mind.
I love EVERYTHING about this. If I could pick out a few things in particular. I'm only kind of a drummer, but most of these things have a lot to do with drums. Lol!
1- Your use of odd rhythmic phrasing is a great homage to the heart of the original.
2- Your use of dividing and multiplying time just feels sooooo good isn't particularly jarring to me. super dope!
3- Your use of snare flams, is sublime. The placement feels so effective and your drum parts over all are just great!
4- The minor 4 you snuck in there melted my heart.
Honorable mentions would include your guitar lines, the netflix trailer piano note drop, your vocal performances and the mix. If I could be negative for a minute, I know you were playing the form of the original tune, but on first listen, it did feel maybe like you coulda possibly cut it down a bit for the sake of it being "pop punk". Lol!!
But yea, everything about this feels so right. I'll be listening to it again and again and again.
Thank you for your art, man!!
I was into it from the moment the verse kicked in, but you blew me away with the chorus! was not expecting that, absolutely phenomenal!
This was legit amazing! The best cover I've heard this year!
bro you may single handedly be making punk great again !
