Back when I was an early teenager, my dad, who knew I loved cars, was good enough to take me to car shows... I remember standing in front of this car, with it's original pink pearl paint, and crushed velvet button tufted interior, completely, and I mean completely mesmerized... For some reason, so many of these cars were never really photographed in detail, which may explain some of the misfires that occurred during the restorations of these glorious beasts.... .. Along with the Pink panther limo, some other favorites were the Manta Ray, the Love Machine and the Big Twin Trike... For some of us, these vehicles actually changed our lives and influenced us in ways still unfolding to this day. Can I get an amen?! Thanks to all who built these art works of chrome and paint, you helped me become the man I am today... Cheers!!!
I did a Google search. This is a George Barris design. He also did the bat mobiles. Years ago he was the guest speaker at the Southern California chapter of SAE. He was probably in his 60s, but had the energy & enthusiasm of a teenager. It was obvious that he loved what he was doing. I was fortunate enough to win an autographed picture of bat mobiles in a raffle that night.
I remember seeing this car on television way back when. What an amazing piece of design! I seem to recall that Revell or someone made a scale model of it.
I remember it well. I used to wait for the Pink Panther to come on, on Saturday mornings, and drool over it. I even had a Hotwheel version of it, that disappeared….probably one of my hoodlum friends.
I remember this car from my childhood because of the Depatie-Freleng Saturday Morning Cartoon series. I also remember there were plenty of toy cars and diecasts based on it, as well as a proper 1/25th scale model by Eldon. If memory serves, there was even a tie-in breakfast cereal called "Pink Panther Flakes," and one of the prizes was a small, basic model of the car. Sadly, I never got one of these kits. Most boys my age circa. 1969 (I was nine) thought the shape of the car looked undeniably cool; but wouldn't build one because of the color and interior accessories that made it more of a "girl's model kit." I'd like to build one, now. I wonder how hard this car was to drive, given that the driver was so far ahead of the front wheels . . . ? Thanks for sharing this with us! 45th Like.
Thank you so much for the wonderful comment and the story told from your life. I always enjoy reading such comments, they inspire me to create new interesting videos. About driving, I have seen pictures of a grown man driving this car and you could see from his face that it was not very comfortable and pleasant. Such a car is more suitable as a simple exhibition piece.
I would think it's much like driving a bus as the driver is sitting forward if the wheels, cornering would have to be done slow and wide. However I note the steering wheel is mounted vertically and is tiny. That must a make things interesting!?
Wow! Somehow, this beauty escaped me. What a cool car! Built on a great frame and driveline! Pink island my color, but this works! It puts Mary Kays Cadillacs to shame. It'd be awesome for a grocery-getter! I'd love to take her for a spin! Thanx!
Does this still exist somewhere? Judging from the clips of it on the TV show intros and outros, it looked hellish difficult to drive! The young lad looked as if he was having great trouble keeping it vaguely straight at 20mph! And it had a 7 ltr V8.....scary!
I would imagine that it was pretty challenging. You would need plenty of space for turning, and you would have to remember how far behind you the front wheels were, and how much more car was behind that!
Apparently it was difficult to keep in a straight line because the steering was so far back from the nose that you were always overcorrecting trying to keep it in lane.
I've always known it as "The Anteater" I cannot recall where I saw it identified as such, maybe a magazine article or a model kit but it's never been simply the Pink Panther Car or Panthermobile to me And it certainly never had that lettering plastered over it spoiling its looks on the TV series Maybe it was renamed after the appearances on the cartoon title sequence Am sure somebody will know better than me

This car was so cool to me when I was a kid watching the cartoon. It was driven by a kid too! Plus one of the best theme tunes there is. 👍👍👍
It's more a platypus car, than a panther.
One of the great custom cars… still is… love the TV antenna in the back window.
The car was my favourite bit of the show, I thought it was impossibly cool. Still do 😎

Maybe Corgi or Matchbox?
@@gearjammer3688 Could have been. It was a long time ago.

Fabulous thing, that was.
That's for sure.

Prince had one , Snoop wants one , Bubbles built his with a shopping cart and a snowmobile .
Totally totally outrageous as Jem would have said! Very cool... Hate to be the driver in that accident, though!

This would be an interesting EV type car with the current technology available today.
Thank you very much, for showing us all those awesome cars.
I enjoy everyone of your videos very much.
Thank you so much, I try very hard to create interesting videos for you all.
@@retrocarchannel You do very well
This is what BEVs need to be. No engine block, no more excuses.
100% AGREE...!!!
When getting older, we all will appreciate those kinds of doors. However, get your shoes off before entering the car! Absolutely great !
I saw that car in New Jersey around 1970
Jay Leno drove it in one of his show's episodes.
K fr this is maybe the coolest car ever.
I've always wondered just how bad did most of these creations actually drive
Yes sir !
This is wat i will see !
Thank you !
beautiful car
If this car isn't an open expression that you are rich then I don't know what is.

@@CycolacFanjust watch the TV show opening credits to see how it wanders all over the road…
@@DrRock2009 to be fair that driver was only eight years old 😉

AI voice and AI sounding script
Yeah, ridiculously repetitive without actually saying anything useful.
Awful, isn’t it?
Shocking!!
The custom car was designed by someone who designed custom cars and featured many automotive features like tires made out of black rubber
The AntSlayer6000
Wow!
FOUR small radiators???
Lmao!! "A unique driving experience".... ya don't say?
Most TV shows did jot have signature custom cars. Shows that did have a signature car it was just a regular car.
Too bad it looked more like the Ant-Eater-mobile.
Love that script, way to AI.
When was this used? A movie or show?
It was at the intro of the Pink Panther show (the cartoon)
A tin teardrop. Fast and bulbous.
Didnt hot wheels make one of these...?
I despise Ai
Not a fan of A.I.
