I have several things I would like to address Alan: 1) Energy Bow: It's not a question of why... It's a question of "Why not?" A person might choose a bow because it is either more challenging than a blaster or the prefer more elegant weapons. The energy bow also has the advantages that you don't need to reload it and can be taken to worlds where blasters might be banned, but hunting weapons like bows aren't. 2) Electro-staffs: First off, have you ever been zapped by a car battery? I have and it (bleep)ing hurts! Large doses of electricity can stop your heart and the large nodules can be used to bash an individual's head in. The main reason why they are used so heavily is that they are cheaper than more expensive alternatives like phrink or Cortosis-weave weapons. Star Wars also likes to leave out burns for some reason. 3) It is not uncommon for rifles to be that long or heavy. Military long arms have had that length for two primary reasons: higher muzzle velocity and being used as spears when fitted with a bayonet to ward off a cavalry charge. To be fair to the Republic, they hadn't had a standing professional army in God knows how long, so they had to start from scratch. Finally, no single weapon is suited for every single mode of engagement or environment. The United States Army still fields shotguns, bolt action sniper rifles, and SMGs in the age of the assault rifle. 4) The Gamoreeans are using vibro weapons. They just use a rougher and simpler design than the norm. Also, Japan was still encouraging Banzai charges with swords in 1945 for the same reason as the Gamoreeans.
In regards to the bow for omega, was she given that weapon by the bad batch because it taught her the fundamentals of using a ranged weapon. And because it wasnt a multishot she had to think about her shot, as she couldnt get as many shots off.
to be fair to the Kaminoan armorsmiths, they had no idea how to outfit regularly proportioned huminoids. The weapons would be better in Kaminioan hands and also most implements are updated in war

It's just a holo recreation. The flickering was a glitch in the holo matrix. 😢 Regrettably, Alderran is only a memory now. Unless you have a time ship.
I suppose blaster EC7's a cheap budget blaster as opposed to the blaster imperial officers are using or how imperial army's just gets handed over whatever is confiscated. Lightsaber rifle is basically a mini Death Star. Energy bows were pretty useless at taking down Commando or even B2 Battle droids. DC15 also had a grappling hook build into it and was still preferred to be used by Clone snipers and DMRs. Gamorrean Guards actually did carry a blaster pistol and their axe was mostly for ceremonial purposes. Luke did pull a blaster from one of them (unless it was from Lando, can't remember). Even more useless feature put in lightfidget spinner is to have a razor build into it.
Manga guards are deliberately designed and trained in the way to counter Jedi like we saw with a Ahsoka when she first encountered them she struggled against them a fully-fledged Jedi master or Knights could deal with them just fine but you'll be concentrating twice as hard added looking out both ways and they're not the only weapons they can use.
I think Ezra ditched it the blaster-saber combo for a normal saber because he couldn’t use both at the same time. It was either the lightsaber or the blaster. However, with a regular lightsaber he can use a regular blaster in his other hand freely. There’s also the fact that he has to put ammo in his saberblaster, usually Tibanna gas, to fire it. Ezra usually uses stun mode, which uses batteries/power cells instead (which are needed for the lightsaber anyway), but it does have a set-to-kill mode that would require Tibanna gas for a proper blaster bolt. Trying to fit that in an ergonomic and practical design is difficult, so the blastersaber’s handguard was likely where he had room for Tibanna gas. But, as you might guess, the handguard design itself is incredibly impractical unless you’re planning to be facing opponents who aim to disarm you by slicing off your hands. It’s what you see on thrusting swords, such as rapiers and estocs and fencing sport swords, aka you need to be heavily focused on thrusting the blade and being thrusted at for the guard to be significantly useful. I could see a second blastersaber actual work with Ezra made a third saber if he made it longer to hold Tibanna gas inside the actual hilt and got rid of the fencing-esque guard and instead used a crossguard more akin to stereotypical medieval swords that the blaster barrel could fit in. He could even put a side emitter above it to protect the blaster and his hands effectively from lightsaber attacks. In other words, a lightsaber bastard sword with a crossguard that houses the blaster barrel, side emitters (like Kylo Ren or Kestis) to protect the barrel-crossguard, and a longer hilt to allow better two-handed grip as well as to hold the Tibanna gas.
@guts60 excellent points. He still has his standard saber but I could see him tinkering around. If he ever learned of the lightsaber rifle and combined his knowledge with that design I would wager he could make a version that doesn't need to use a lightsaber as ammunition.
I honestly don't know why he didn't rebuild it in the first place. When his master had borrowed it during the one episode, it was shown to be insanely versatile and useful in ways that Ezra hadn't yet come close to pulling off. Personally, when I saw what it could do, I thought that it might eventually become the basis for a new generation of jedi weapons.
Why does the scout pistol even have a trigger guard if the trigger is on the side like the problem the lore claims the side trigger fixes is already fixed because they used that style of trigger guard it's already meant for gloves
If I was to hazard a guess (and this is primarily an educated guess.), I would say that the weapon originally was designed with a trigger. At some point, the normal trigger was removed for some reason, but the guard remained. Again, this is just a guess, but residual features happen in real life. (Can’t remember any off the top of my head unfortunately.)
Wonder how drunk the designers were, both in real life and in universe, when they gave it a side button. Couldn’t they give it a Derringer like trigger so it could still work despite the gloved hands?
Bro, you can't possibly work a trigger with action figure hands. 8:10 I always thought the electric charge was to repel light sabers. To keep them from cutting the end of the staff off in an economical way. As opposed to precious metals for blocking slashes through.
They could have just as easily put the button inside of the grip and trigger guard. Just a thin button, shaped ergonomically to the grip, pressed right against the grip, all so that the gloves can still fit through perfectly, and requiring only one finger to pull to drastically improve aim and intuitive use. This is also substantially better than a pressure-sensing grip to fire, since squeezing more than one finger to fire will no doubt ruin your aim a ton. You can then have a switch on the side for the thumb to flip to turn safety on and off (like many firearms) so you don’t accidentally squeeze the button trigger when you don’t mean to, something I can see happening to the pressure-sensitive grip to trigger as well. Accidentally squeeze too hard? Well you misfired and miraculously hit a civilian spaceliner’s thruster causing it to be shot down.
I don't care what any lore says for this specifically, the energy and plasma for the bow needs to come from somewhere, just like any other blaster or energy weapon in Star Wars. Given the size of the projectile relative to the weapon, its ammo is almost definitely much more limited than other weapons.
My geuss is the lightsabers intended for the lightsaber rifle were different and made of a standardised heat resistant material, and it acted more like a key then ammunition, or there is a minimum cooldown time
Regarding the DC-15 length, it’s not the first weapon that’s too long for confined space. The British Army’s SLR was used extensively in forests during its time in service and that weapon was pretty long.
Ive always mentally compared the transition between the dc15 to the dc15A similar to our switch from the M16A2 to the m4s in the army. Kinda similar atleast. To me.
Crazy that it has a trigger guard, but the "trigger" is just this weird pressure sensor/button on the side, making it not only really easy to misfire, but the trigger guard almost entirely pointless.
I imagine the Energy Bow has a level of versitility to it you don't get out of a Blaster Rifle in how some models could also be designed to fire traditional arrows as well as the plasma bolt arrows. Plasma Bolt arrows are the standard projectile. Which cuts back on ammo to weight ratio, whilst the weapon's design also lets you potentially use specialized physical arrows too. Something that would be very handy for Hunters. Plasma Bolt Arrows for smaller prey. Specialized physical arrows for targets that cannot be killed and maimed by the standard bolts or if you wanna use a non-lethal arrow projectile.
"A good swordsman should be able to disarm an oponent with a stick" Miyamoto Mushashi killed a guy in a duel with a stick, while hungover, and late to said duel.
Electrostaffs have the tip specifically to deflect lightsaber blasts I think. It’s a really cheap way to do it considering the alternative would basically be getting a whole kyber crystal and giving each droid you want to make essentially their own lightsaber. The separatists are all about cheap, easy, mass produced weapons.
I love the DC-15 as the clones' equivalent of the M16, especially seeing as they've got their own M4 analogue as well. Sometimes you just need that Big Old Barrel to really lay some hate on a target.
Oh come now. You should know as well as anyone, speed and silence are some of your best assets in combat. An axe or a stick makes no noise beyond that of impact, and by the time you hear it, it's too late. especially as you note later on, that a skilled duelist can eliminate an opponent with a stick. Why not give gammorians the same benefit of the doubt with their own weapons?
a gamorian guard would be right at home using the weapons that ogryns of 40k use incredibly simple weapons, few moving parts and robust enough to just simply beat your enemy over the head with and keep firing
Maybe other lightsaber rifles used weaker bolts and can use their lightsaber ammo for much longer or indefinitely, and the one Jocasta used in the comics is modified?
Two questions and an observation Q1 Does the lightsaber rifle damage the kyber crystal or does it just melt the Mechanical components of the lightsaber through enery overload and thermal build up? Q2 Can the energy bow be used as a melee weapon? I.e flip it around and use the bow string to cut through people like its some offspring of a lightsaber and a bat'leth? O1 Wasn't the point of the electro tips on the electrostaff for psychological effects as well as to cause muscle spasms when used against Jedi so as to give the three other magnaguard attaching them an opening?
If the DC-15 was fully automatic, or could be turned from semi to auto to semi again via a switch, I could see it being a lot more useful. Even still, it is limited to open battlefields, firing from an open LAAT from above, ambushes that you don’t plan to jump out of cover from (no charging in), and from defensive positions. And with the carbine variant it would still see more use because you have the same fire rate in a more reliable and useful package in exchange for some accuracy that your clone firing squad makes up for.
I can totally picture a couple prop-makers back in 1977, prime hippie time, hitting that spliff and going "yeah man, I will use this tube, glue some screws to it and paint it black to look like a futuristic laser weapon *takes another puff" I did watch documentaries on Star Wars production but it included no info or references on the use of recreational substances to enhance design. But you know they totally did.
7:55 unless you are surrounded and being ganged up on, those 5 seconds don't matter. Whoever you hit likely won't be able to move or do much other than be shocked Tasers run for 8 seconds usually(on average), an electrostaff is pushing out a lot more energy than a taser
8:58 tbh, the DC-15 seems reasonable from an in-universe standpoint (assuming that longer blasters behave simila r to longer rifles IRL) In the prequels, we see the Trade Federation and the Republic employing a lot of napoleonic-style infantry square formations, so it makes sense that longer range would take priority over CQB early on in the clone wars; both sides are slugging it out in open fields, so the key is being able to hit the other guy before he gets close enough to hit you. Incidentally, the DC-15 is a little bit shorter than an M1891 Mosin Nagant, the British MLE and the German Gewehr 98, all three of which were used in WW1 and later replaced with shorter carbine versions of themselves as large formation warfare was replaced.
Funny enough most people are just one handing weapons in Star Wars especially pistol sized ones. When in reality we put both hands to fire more accurately. But I guess the scout pistol is rly meant only for emergency and wasn’t built for accuracy. But funny enough it was used by scout troopers which are supposed to be a scout unit and giving them a terrible back up weapon is such an empire thing to do.
I always thought the spinning lightsabers being used to fly to inquisitors around like helicopters looked pretty stupid. Also, how about that automatic, four-nozzle blaster the clones had to carry on their chest with straps from the 2003 CW series?
Having an energy field as your bowstring is a bad idea. The best form for archery often requires the archer and the bow to be perfectly aligned with each other. There's a reason why most archers wear some sort of protection along the inside of the arm holding the bow. I can say from personal experience shooting a 25lb target shooting bow that string can sting.
I've always severely hated the inquisitor's lightsaber design. Your right, the spinning feature is really just a flashy but entirely impractical gimmick. The ring is just a dumb idea, but the absolutely worst part is that stupid helicopter ability. Lightsabers just don't work that way. There's no way a lightsaber blade can generate lift like that at all. It's as cringy as it is silly.
Actually the DC-15 carbine variant has always existed alongside the battle rifle. If you look closely during the battle of Geonosis in Attack of the Clones, you can see a clone captain and a few troopers with the smaller DC-15 when the gunship with Windu arrives behind the lines.
A dose of irony...during the Clone Wars, improved models of droids were using electro-staffs. It's a great weapon against droids, but the Separatist's opponents were organics. Things that make you go hmmmmm.
The lightsaber rifle worked perfectly fine in the Jedi-Sith wars period. There were plenty of used lightsabers laying around from all the dead on all those battlefields. Lots of ammo. You use the Force to eject the melted, spent ammo and just pop in another fallen comrade's weapon to let them take just five more swings at the enemy from beyond the grave. Great use of a plentiful resource that was completely untapped. Now in any other era, it is pretty much a useless weapon.
It really did throw me for a loop when i first found out that the Gamorreans really did just use basic ass, old fashioned, cold steel battleaxes. Nothing special about them, just the same kind of axe you'd see used in the 13th century. I get their backwards and all but, damn man, i figured the Hutts wouldve given them at LEAST a MODERN melee weapon, y'know?
i'd at least guess that the energy bow probably shoots a pretty powerful blast that is maybe stronger than a typical blaster bolt, though still impractical.
I had some notes about this video! Any stuff I don't touch on I generally agree with. 1. The Legends EC-17's preassure trigger is a terrible design idea for a projectile weapon like a blaster, if you for any reason squeeze your blaster (like say if you were in the middle of a battle or something) you would be very prone to an accidental discharge of the weapon. 2. The Magna Guards staff weapons are not meant to kill, and this is intentional; it's a lot easier to kill an opponent when they're exhausted from being hit with stun prods for the whole fight. Most weapons are designed to get an enemy to stop fighting, and sometimes killing is a big part of that, but sometimes getting an enemy to just be stunned on the ground is more than enough. 3. The DC-15 as a battle rifle isn't necessarily a bad idea, a long; cumbersome rifle isn't much of a problem when most fighting takes place between 35-150 meters 4. I agree about the inquisitor's lightsaber, it reflects the Imperial Militaries' philosophy; They're very good at dealing with small groups of, untrained paramilitaries; but when it comes to fighting an *actual trained military force* they are horrible, for example: the AT-AT is huge and imposing and most infantry weapons can't even put a dent in it, but 3 fighters and a Y Wing would annihilate a whole column of AT-ATs, assuming they had no air support to fight them.
No wonder scout troops always shoot to the left too. As their grip tightens to press that button (which I assume is super stiff to prevent negligent discharges when holstered) their hands will naturally shift to the left. Not only does this make accurate shooting near impossible on a pinch which you’d need for a holdout blaster, follow up shots will be very slow. 0/10 weapon, you’d be better off with a knife.
4:11, Aside from it suggesting pretty prominent special effects to bring it to life (unless it were simply animated), this time period is kind of against Disney’s current brand of fun, adventure focused stories, being a time where Sith were enslaving worlds and all. This era is also far more morally complex than the standard Rebellion and Empire or even, to a lesser extent, the Republic vs Separatist eras, resembling Dune more than Star Wars (which is one of this era’s strengths) in how both Sith and Jedi make questionable choices. 8:02, In the context of the Clone Wars, the use of electroshock weapons could also be intended as a means of capturing high-value targets for interrogation or as hostages.
I imagine the odds of hurting yourself with the bow is about the same as the lightsaber and that it is easier to feel where the bow is than the weightless blade of the saber.
The blaster spear actually makes sense when you think about the position you're in when you're swimming and how much easier it would be to aim in that position than a regular gun-shaped blaster
The holdout blaster and the inquisition lightsabers are awful designs for a military force. Like you said, all flash and no substance. It was funny how the scout troopers in The Mandolorian showed how crummy the design was. Equally so when Kanaan or Ahsoka defeated the Inquisitors. It harkens back to the weird futuristic weapons you'd see in 1950's sci-fi which were equally low budget affairs like the 1st Star Wars. In universe though, inexpensive but moderately functuonal is what you happens when you have a galaxy wide military to outfit.
To paraphrase Jack O'Neil of Stargate: (in regards to the blaster-spear) This is a weapon of terror. It's designed to intimidate the enemy. (in regards to a regular ol' blaster) This is a weapon of WAR. It's designed to KILL your enemy.
Those electro-staffs would definitely be lethal.... it's just dumb that they aren't, because even if it takes 5 seconds to stop someones heart with the electric shock, as soon as they make contact with it, they shouldn't be able to move and even when they do, they'll be so shaken up they won't be able to react to a follow-up attack.
The electric stab can kill instand. Grivous want kill the jedi himself and the royal guards has a sith mentality. A hit from a stab are enough to disabel someone.

In regards to the bow for omega, was she given that weapon by the bad batch because it taught her the fundamentals of using a ranged weapon. And because it wasnt a multishot she had to think about her shot, as she couldnt get as many shots off.
It’s really a shame Omega didn’t used her crossbow that Echo gave her
There's not a lot of skill translation between archery and shooting a gun.
Bullets are not arrows.
The DC-15 was bad for lore reasons, just like the phase I armor. The Kaminoans had no idea what they were doing when they outfitted the legions.
to be fair to the Kaminoan armorsmiths, they had no idea how to outfit regularly proportioned huminoids. The weapons would be better in Kaminioan hands and also most implements are updated in war
Alan are you on Alderran? I thought it got destroyed in a mining accident. Also what was that warehouse flickering in the background. Sorry probs just my imagination.
No Jedha had a mining accident, Alderaan had a cosmic fart
He’s on the planet where he keeps all the Bens
It's just a holo recreation. The flickering was a glitch in the holo matrix. 😢 Regrettably, Alderran is only a memory now. Unless you have a time ship.
Casually making a video on Alderaan hope tarken doesn’t find him
I suppose blaster EC7's a cheap budget blaster as opposed to the blaster imperial officers are using or how imperial army's just gets handed over whatever is confiscated.
Manga guards are deliberately designed and trained in the way to counter Jedi like we saw with a Ahsoka when she first encountered them she struggled against them a fully-fledged Jedi master or Knights could deal with them just fine but you'll be concentrating twice as hard added looking out both ways and they're not the only weapons they can use.
and I mean four of them and Grievous, or a few commando droids in the mix is wayyy worse
Ezra should eventually go back to his blaster/saber design and refine it. I really liked it.
STRONG AGREE, HIS DOWNGRADE VIA LIGHTSABER AND DESIGN SUCKED HARD
He really had something, I originally didn't love it, but I've changed my mind. He made such a great design and with such terrible components too
The fact the Inquisitor guard's weapon can let them helicopter through the air makes Leia Poppins look far less ridiculous by comparison
Speaking of staffs, you should do a topic about the Lasat Honor Guard’s bo-staff
Bro, you can't possibly work a trigger with action figure hands.
8:10 I always thought the electric charge was to repel light sabers. To keep them from cutting the end of the staff off in an economical way. As opposed to precious metals for blocking slashes through.
Lighsabers use similar magnetic fields to push saber blades away from the hilt, which is why there aren't more lost hands in saber duels.
The bow is quiet and has unlimited ammunition
The Dc15 is said to have 500 shots. If you don’t hit anything by then end of the gas cartage. Just go home.
@@Odie125JTMprovided your somehow STILL alive by then after missing somehow THAT much
I don't care what any lore says for this specifically, the energy and plasma for the bow needs to come from somewhere, just like any other blaster or energy weapon in Star Wars. Given the size of the projectile relative to the weapon, its ammo is almost definitely much more limited than other weapons.
Gamorreans would get battle axes because if you gave them a blaster they would use it as a club. They do not know how to operate firearms or blasters.
less that they don't know how to operate them and more they are extremely stubborn about not using ranged options.
To me.
Alan, I'm LOVING your use of Aurabesh!
I have a head cold and "one Danny Devito held sideways" nearly killed me 🤣
The elecro bit of electrostaff seems to be able to contact a lightsaber without much issue, so it seems like a way to counter that on a budget.
I just realise the best sponsor for the video would be SDI
When you think DC-15 it's real world equivalent would be the BAR or the FN FAL. These things are gigantic.
Ok that was a little sketchy 0:52
gun go pew pew
"A good swordsman should be able to disarm an oponent with a stick" Miyamoto Mushashi killed a guy in a duel with a stick, while hungover, and late to said duel.
He was late on purpose because he knew it would piss him off, and a pissed off opponent is prone to make mistakes.
9:59 I just put that in the same category of the gen 1 clone Armour the camenoians just don't understand humans or wepons
I find it strange how there's a bunch of Star Wars weapons that have scopes but no one ever uses them
Oh come now. You should know as well as anyone, speed and silence are some of your best assets in combat. An axe or a stick makes no noise beyond that of impact, and by the time you hear it, it's too late. especially as you note later on, that a skilled duelist can eliminate an opponent with a stick. Why not give gammorians the same benefit of the doubt with their own weapons?
cloak and dagger is far superior
a gamorian guard would be right at home using the weapons that ogryns of 40k use
incredibly simple weapons, few moving parts and robust enough to just simply beat your enemy over the head with and keep firing
Maybe other lightsaber rifles used weaker bolts and can use their lightsaber ammo for much longer or indefinitely, and the one Jocasta used in the comics is modified?
i fell like some of the time electro staffs are used because it is a cheaper melee weapon that can be used against lightsabers
Two questions and an observation
Q1 Does the lightsaber rifle damage the kyber crystal or does it just melt the Mechanical components of the lightsaber through enery overload and thermal build up?
Even on vacation, he's still hard at work!! What a guy!!!!
Tbh 1977 wasn't really hippy time anymore. Way more of a studio 54 situation
“Plus I’m not wearing pants…”
lol 😂
Well if someone had access to a dubious dealer in light sabres, (*cough, cough), then the laser rifle looks like a steal.
He wouldn’t want to damage his trophies and you know it XD
I smell profit!
7:55 unless you are surrounded and being ganged up on, those 5 seconds don't matter. Whoever you hit likely won't be able to move or do much other than be shocked
Tasers run for 8 seconds usually(on average), an electrostaff is pushing out a lot more energy than a taser
8:58 tbh, the DC-15 seems reasonable from an in-universe standpoint (assuming that longer blasters behave simila r to longer rifles IRL)
In the prequels, we see the Trade Federation and the Republic employing a lot of napoleonic-style infantry square formations, so it makes sense that longer range would take priority over CQB early on in the clone wars; both sides are slugging it out in open fields, so the key is being able to hit the other guy before he gets close enough to hit you.
Incidentally, the DC-15 is a little bit shorter than an M1891 Mosin Nagant, the British MLE and the German Gewehr 98, all three of which were used in WW1 and later replaced with shorter carbine versions of themselves as large formation warfare was replaced.
Did you fall from Jersey into Disneyland? 😂
Their are riot control troopers in the force unleashed two welding eletrostaffs.
Exactly what I was thinking. It's pretty obvious by that point alone whoever came up with that weapon never actually shot a bow in their life
I've always severely hated the inquisitor's lightsaber design.
That Mon Calamari spear just looks like an electric guitar when they wield it.
Whoever is palpatines secretary of defence is absolutely getting scammed
3. The DC-15 as a battle rifle isn't necessarily a bad idea, a long; cumbersome rifle isn't much of a problem when most fighting takes place between 35-150 meters
That's almost one Danney DeVito held sideways 😂
Standard, metric and now DeVito …. Now I need to buy another wrench set
Electro staffs look like a capture weapon. Really useful to interrogate your enemies
The blaster spear actually makes sense when you think about the position you're in when you're swimming and how much easier it would be to aim in that position than a regular gun-shaped blaster
Rockin' the old Apple Vision Pro, I see.
Considering a sawed off shotgun a one handed weapons do be crazy considering the recoil
0:51 - Anyone else notice this?
Also, curse you for introducing me to Hip Hop Yoda.
To paraphrase Jack O'Neil of Stargate:
(in regards to the blaster-spear) This is a weapon of terror.
The "trigger stud" is a high limit thermostat used on appliances like clothes dryers.
Helicopter lightsabers are on my list of the absolute dumbest things offered by Rebels.
I see Alan was training with his lightsaber blindfolded.
The rent there has got to be astronomical.
Now we need to see your gun collection now that we know you hit the range 😂😂
The dancing Yoda transitions were excellent. I was not expecting them
A "scout" in shiny bright white armor doesn't make much sense in the first place, but hey.
