Correct - Zakir Naik unfortunately left that little detail out. Abraham built the place for the One God. People used to come from different lands to come and worship Him. People would often take rocks and stones back as memorabilia of this sacred place. People were not always able to travel back to the sacred site and so as time passed, they began to construct these rocks and stones into idols. These idols were then brought to the sacred place and the message of the One true God was eventually lost. This is why the Prophet was instructed by God to destroy them.

May Allah reward you immensely for educating the ummah on issues which are very core and crucial to our islamic history ...Because of such detailed explanations on this topic it is hoped that muslims dont get carried away by westernisation in places where it shouldn't be.

@Smart Khan if you want to argue that verse, you need to know arabic man. That word that translates into "friend" is incorrectly translated. It is actually "ally" as in a nation level relationship. It means, don't take Jews and Christians as ally for example dont take US and Israel as an alley. These two nations are protectors of each others aka Zionists. "And never will the Jews or the Christians approve of you until you follow their religion. Say, "Indeed, the guidance of Allah is the [only] guidance." If you were to follow their desires after what has come to you of knowledge, you would have against Allah no protector or helper."
This verse says the Non-Muslims especially the Jews and Christians would not be happy until you leave Islam and join them
