My parents moved to Portugal when I was a senior in high school and I lived in Cascais for a year. The Portuguese are really nice people. That I know. Lovely people, lovely country.
I feel like you guys were one of the first channels to put Portugal on the map. It's always been on the back of my mind, but now I'm entertaining it more and more.
Hi Guys. I was heavily inspired by your channel to start my own channel and I just uploaded my first video. I am an American living in Switzerland and am going to be sharing tips about money and living in Switzerland and buying property in Europe. Thanks for the motivation!
I just love you guys. I love your positivity, your creativity, your drive, your adventurous spirits. I watch all of your financial videos, bought your course, and I’ve started investing monthly. I was actually looking at retiring in Portugal before I learned that you live there. I’m originally from the bay area and if I ever get over there, would love to have a three hour lunch with you and your family. Keep up the amazing work!
I love the content that you guys put out. I've been watching for over 6 monthsand you two have helped me in my fiance start our own financial Independence journey. And literally two days after her and I talked about starting to seriously think about retiring in Portugal you started this series. Keep up the good work and we'll keep watching.
You guys are such an inspiration!!! Please do more portugal content like this! I would love to see more vlog style content on your amazing everyday lives!
I still can't wrap my head around 200k housing prices around the world. A house in TORONTO Canada starts at 1 Million If you're lucky! Tax rates are about 35-40% for a decent income. Maybe Retiring in an other country is the ideal plan as of now.
I live in NYC and prices are even worst here. I'm 26 and I wasn't sure where I would retire when the time comes... but I'm definitely retiring abroad, most likely in South America. Brazil, Colombia, Argentina etc. Start learning Spanish or Portuguese if you're young. It opens up doors.
Just discovered your channel this morning and have watched six videos thus far today. I will be signing for your course when I get home today. You two come across as sincere, good people, trying to help others. Keep up the good work.
Our rich journey Nice to have a family already. As a single black man I'd love to visit these areas and I want a life a better life than in the states in which im very familiar but I don't know how much I'd invest and ultimately living the rest of my life in Portugal. Its a more serious change when you're single as I am.Thats why I've always believed in living life in 2 different countries. This may seriously require the funds to do so but could also be planned very strategically and is possible.I have alot of new family in America that I've yet to connect with but will very soon.I just want to be able to have the best of both worlds without one being over another in the final decision making. Thanks for the journey I always enjoy the experience.
OK, first off, you two are adorable! I really appreciate how you've presented the information. Your video and text editing are tight and not free formed. You clearly did your research, made a plan and presented very clearly. I can't begin to tell you how many folks out there post 15, 20 or even 30 minute videos on "the cost of retiring in (fill in the blank) and have about 2 to 3 minutes of actual useful info followed by the rest at a ramble with either no focus or focusing on various topics. It's exhausting. So, I'll be watching your series with a great deal of interest. If you ever do another video on property in the regions, I'd love to see samples of less modern properties. For many home buyers, the rage is new, new, new. For us it's personality and tradition. We'd definitely watch a video on that! Thanks so much!
I’ve never clicked on a video so fast! I need to start learning Portuguese. I really enjoyed Lisbon/Sintra. Thanks for the great information and keep up the great work 👍🏾
fantastic guys, my husband is part Portuguese heritage and we often hang out in Lisbon - my favourite city in Europe and it's such a beautiful country. The difference in real estate prices is incredble.
There are lots of videos about moving to Portugal but your videos are so helpful, practical and perfect for families. Thank you! Plus, you're such a cute family and seem so friendly on screen!
Can you do an updated version of this? I keep hearing how much property prices have risen. Are houses in Silver Coast area still reasonable? Love your home. 😊 Thanks
I am amazed by your level of research before buying a home. You apply the same rigour and discipline in any financial decision which is amazing. Thanks for sharing your "rich journey" with us 🙏😊
Love you two!!! I have a classmate that lives in Lisbon and he loves it! He became a citizen and retired from the Orchestra there! He just sang for the July 4th celebration! You two got my mind going! We are getting close to retirement! Thanks for more insights!!
Wow, you guys are so incouraging! Keep it up 👍. My wife and I are debt free and within 8yrs of our FIRE goal. We can't watch enough of your videos! Thx again for what you do!
That is so exciting! Congratulations on being debt free and within reach of your FIRE goal! You will look back 8 yrs from now and think about how fast time flew by!!!
Thank you for breaking down Portugal, my favorite country in all of Europe, hands down. From the Northern region where some of the best "Mom & Pop" restaurant cooking anywhere, to the Lisbon region where they party like 1999. And finally, the Algarve where I'd like to retire myself. This region still has the Moorish African influence still embedded within Its culture which makes this place feel like home.
@S.W.W. Thank you Sir for the REAL history lesson. I was just about to break it down when you responded...by the way, Eduardo did you know the Moors built the first University there.
@@Supermiranda78 My Portuguese friends and I didn't dine at the" touristy" places! There are "Mom & Pop " restaurants all over if you know where to find them.
Saving, saving, saving! I cannot wait for my trip in the fall 2025 to Portugal; especially Lisbon and of course, the Algarve. Thank you for the information about the neighborhoods.
When I visited Lisbon in 2014, mainly to go to Fatima with Mom because her dream was to visit Fatima , I fell in love with nazare which to me represent everything I am looking , beautiful town on the water with very good seafood restaurants and charming views, and very friendly people. You guys made me very happy when you mentioned nazare , I’m saving and waiting but buying a property in nazare is going to happen in the next couple of years! Thank you
You guys have done a wonderful job with this video. I got friends in Portugal and have travel to most of the cities. I agree, that Nazaré it is stunning. There’s simply so many beautiful places in that country and hope to live there one day.
Thank you for this video!! I've never considered moving out of North America but the price for such nice spacious homes (besides Lisbon I guess), scenery, and lifestyle makes it so tempting to move there ✨
We've loved living abroad! We lived in Spain and Japan before this. If you ever want to test it out first, you could look for jobs that hire abroad. That way, you can see if you like it. AND, if you find the right employer, they may pay for your housing abroad. We worked for the federal government and got all of our housing and utilities paid for when we lived in Japan and Spain! :)
Happy to have found you guys! I wish all the best to the family. I’m Brazilian and my wife is American and we love Portugal. We do plan on retiring there, but we are not ready yet. We agree, central Portugal is beautiful. Muitas felicidades, vocês fizeram a escolha certa!

The Silver Coast is the very best! I'm surprised you didn't mention Caldas da Rainha!! It's very decent sized city and close to the coast. Nazare is a lovely town, it has a beautiful beach. definitely super touristy in the summer and during the giant waves. My personal favourite it the Peniche area.
Can ur daughters do a vid on their pros&cons living in Portugal as young (very lucky) girls..with such GREAT parents giving them such a wonderful lifestyle😊
My two daughters wife and I are really considering moving to Carnota,Galicia where I was born. We live in New York right now but things are not looking very good. Your videos are very informative coming from that part of the world. Thank you for your videos and God bless you guys❤️
Y’all are adorable! A fan in Texas here, hoping to retire in Portugal soon, after we get our vaccinations! Thank you so much for sharing such great information. God bless you four!
Hi Sea Breeze ! Looking for all the replies , I got interested in yours . Since it has already passed 1 year , I am just wondering if you guys’ve made it ! We are also a couple from the South of Texas intending to spend part of our retirement in Portugal 🇵🇹 We love this channel as well ! So please if by any chance you see my reply I would love to get your response. Thanks a lot 🙏y’all 🤠
Once I get my Visa cleared, I am moving to Portugal as well! I am very interested in building my own house or refurbishing a dilapidated home somewhere. My dream is a country home with studio apartment in the city. Great videos! Keep them coming!
Cristina and Lamont are absolutely candid, transparent, informative, well informed family people with great personality. We love and support you guys and have shared all of your videos with family and friends. We will contact you when we are ready to move to Portugal. We've visited several times in the past and were debating between Portugal and Spain. We are heading to Portugal as my wife grandparents were born and raised in Portugal and we are considering relocating to Algarve or Cascais.
Christina and Amon, I love your videos and have purchased your courses. I am very grateful for your information in such important topics. Your videos are so much fun to watch with the 4 of you!!
i am a new in search for the details and you both are so great and make the things in so much simple to understand about portugal in simple way.thanks a lot and best wishes to your family
I feel like you guys should be the official Portugal immigration representatives! You made me love Portugal even more. Did you all mention Aveiro? I liked it there as it was super mellow. This was by far my favorite video.
@Miguel Pimentel bjebifewbewfbiubiucs Sounds incredible, I am Portuguese originally and prefer to be somewhere like that with access to the Algarve on occasion. Somewhere my son could swim like a lake or river would be fantastic. What website would you recommend for land / property research?
My dad was born in Tavira, and I’ve been going there every year since I was kid. I absolutely love this place but, just like you said, I can definitely say that there weren’t as many foreigners in the 2000s as there are now. In the summer, the city is just overcrowded with tourists and that is the #1 thing I deplore. In that regard, I really miss the old days, but the place is still so beautiful and so dear to my heart ❤️
Love this series! I am hooked into your videos. I passed the FIRE 🔥 age and not near retirement but take much of your information in consideration when planning my finances. Looking forward more videos like this one...wish they were more than once a week 😀🙌🌏
We can’t believe how similar our situation is to yours! we reached FIRE in August 2019, I’m 37 and my partner 40, we came to Portugal from Spain, attracted by the friendly people and tax advantages. We were exploring a lot of places in Portugal, we DON’T have a car (we prefer not to drive), we are currently renting in Ericeira and looking to buy around here. Do you have any thoughts about Ericeira? Looking forward to the big reveal! 😉
Talking about advantages and in the same times of low taxes is a bit of irony no ? Who do you think pay for those advantages like social security etc etc ?
As a brazilian looking for a house in Portugal i can´t tell how much you guys are helping me! thank you so much for all the videos ! last time i was in Portugal was in 2018 and visited Lisboa and Porto, and i'm thinking a lot of near Lisboa nowadays. Great Channel, beatifull family! Can´t wait for the next video.
Thank you sonmuch for this very enlightening episode. I live in Spain which is very close to Portugal, looking to start investing in real estate in the nearest future.
Nice to see you happily living in Portugal. It is a such a huge decision to move to another country. How about kids schooling?Do they teach in English or Portuguese?
Omg so jealous of you guys!! I have Portuguese parents but grew up in the states and every time my wife and I visit Portugal, we talk about moving there cause we love it there so much!! U guys r living our dream!! Enjoy every minute of it. N yes Amon’s pronunciation is better hahah but Christina is at least trying and she’ll get there soon enough!! Much love
First off, thanks for all the amazing info you share, I'd like to know you guys' thoughts on two negatives about Portuguese housing that gets mentioned a lot: 1. is how cold houses/apts get in winter, and 2. the noise levels, from neighbors, but also dogs. Thanks!
For the winter months, it really depends on how well the house is insulated. Because it gets cold, you'll likely still want a house with a heater or a fireplace. But, if it's not insulated well - even with a heater or fireplace, the house can be just too cold! And noise level depends on where you live. In condos/apartment - noise can get loud. But, again, it depends on the construction! :)
As portuguese it was really nice to see how you guys love Portugal and what you think of "my" country. Hope you're enjoying this country much as I'm enjoying see your videos!
I have been looking forward to this video (was little disappointed last two weeks - not because of the content - but because my heart was so set on this series)..
Thank you! And great question. We'll address it in detail in an upcoming video but in most areas a home valued at 170 euro, or 200 USD, would have a 500 euro /year property tax. Property taxes are low.
Wow, if TV was still relevant, you two should definitely have your own show on the Travel Channel. Very nicely done, and the most informative video about living in Portugal that I've seen thus far. Organized information with definitive vs descriptive phrasing is key. I don't like when I'm looking for numbers, and other channels will say, "this is expensive, this is cheaper, this is reasonable". That tells me absolutely nothing. You two knocked it out of the park. Thank you.
I loved your tour of Portugal! Algarve and the North are beautiful areas. Based on your video I now want to visit the central region, Nazare ❤️. In Geneva, Switzerland you can only get three and a half car parks for USD200,000 and no view nor access to any beach.🤣🤣🤣 I am looking forward to the big reveal!
Yep, I'm in Arbon (TG) and there are basically no houses under 1 million, but shockingly, there is an apartment in my building currently listed for 375K and it is the lowest-priced offering in the whole town. The building is older, but we're just steps away from the Bodensee. So nice.
Many thanks, I am hoping to move to the silver coast within the next 18 months, some of your videos have been a massive help , will check out some more of them in the coming weeks
you also Forgot to mention that in future when your children become Portugese citizens Then can go to any European College or University extremely cheap or even for free.
Thank you for a very informative and well thought out video. Can’t wait for the big reveal. Could you also discuss details about how you went about finding a property agent or did you do this entirely on your own. Thank you!
Yes! Thank you for that suggestion! We have a lot of info to share about property agents. We're planning on doing a video on agents as part of this series! :)
I cannot wait to see what this series has in store! Question, how did your family make the decision to move abroad in relation to immediate and extending family? Grandparents, cousins, etc. what went into consideration?
Thanks for the insight given. After seeing those beaches in central and what you can get for your money, your really giving me food for thought. Come on Christina spill the beans lol. Ps that dance at 12:30 🤣🤣🤣
I recently read that positive optimistic people have a much better chance of reaching a very high age than pessimists. If that is true then this couple is surely going to live to be over 100 years old (both of them, not in total).

Christina and Amon, I love your videos and have purchased your courses. I am very grateful for your information in such important topics. Your videos are so much fun to watch with the 4 of you!!
Love your content so much and I’m glad I found your page. Trying to make this an option for when we retire in 7 years.
i am a new in search for the details and you both are so great and make the things in so much simple to understand about portugal in simple way.thanks a lot and best wishes to your family
I feel like you guys should be the official Portugal immigration representatives! You made me love Portugal even more. Did you all mention Aveiro? I liked it there as it was super mellow. This was by far my favorite video.
Thanks for adding Aveiro (we didn't mention it)! So glad you liked the video!
Yall are so cool and knowledgable man. Love the content and love yall
the huge reveal: "We kept one region as a secret and this is where we bought our house: Alentejo!!" :-)
The region with two seasons only. Inverno (winter) and inferno. 😬
@something 123 Great to know, I stayed in Almodovar for a few years and it was like I described. I will look for those valleys up north. Thank you.
@Miguel Pimentel bjebifewbewfbiubiucs What towns would you recommend for being near lakes?
@Miguel Pimentel bjebifewbewfbiubiucs Sounds incredible, I am Portuguese originally and prefer to be somewhere like that with access to the Algarve on occasion. Somewhere my son could swim like a lake or river would be fantastic. What website would you recommend for land / property research?
My (Portuguese) friends got married there, such a beautiful area! We stayed for about three days and it was one of the best parts of our trip!
Your youngest pop lockin’ sent me!! 🤣🤣 Love that you guys have such fun in your family.
HAHA! We slipped that in :-) We do have fun :-)
Am a new comer of your channel and nice to meet you guys keep upload new things that we have to get info as much as possible
You guys are my heroes! I love following your journey!
Olga - you are too kind! Thank you!!!
Really cool people. Love yall! I'm putting Portugal on my visa list. Thanks
Love this series! I am hooked into your videos. I passed the FIRE 🔥 age and not near retirement but take much of your information in consideration when planning my finances. Looking forward more videos like this one...wish they were more than once a week 😀🙌🌏
Ya'll the best. This helps me narrow down my search. ❤
You guys are so lovely and happy to watch your channel!
Thank you and be blessed!!
I'm Brazilian therefore I speak Portuguese. Your pronunciation is great guys! Portuguese is HARD, but I can see your effort and results. Keep going!
Oh, wow! We're neighbors! :) Lots of great places to look at in Portugal! :)
Hi,I have recently started watching your videos and they’re very informative 👍
Thanks Karen!!!
Nice to see you happily living in Portugal. It is a such a huge decision to move to another country.
How about kids schooling?Do they teach in English or Portuguese?
Hi,which private school (primary )would you recommend on silver coast?
Omg so jealous of you guys!! I have Portuguese parents but grew up in the states and every time my wife and I visit Portugal, we talk about moving there cause we love it there so much!! U guys r living our dream!! Enjoy every minute of it. N yes Amon’s pronunciation is better hahah but Christina is at least trying and she’ll get there soon enough!! Much love
Thanks for the introduction to Portugal.
Thank you so much for this video! I’ve been waiting for it and y’all delivered!
Wow! So glad you liked it Ashley!
Watching this video 3 yrs. after makes me cry looking at the 2020 prices!
Pretty good advice... 1st time saw your video...you both either are teachers or presenter as you are good. 👍
I love Lisbon!!!! I love those pastries!!!!!!
Yes Angela! Those pastries!!!!
If that's the case, daily workouts would be a must.
Very professional guys, extremely well presented and the content was really thought thru. Enjoyed this.
Cristina trying to pronounce the Portuguese areas is precious!! :D :D Top mark for effort!
Thank you! 😃 You are waaaaayyyyy too kind! My Portuguese is a work in progress! :)
Our Rich Journey Cristina, I’m a foreign languages teacher 😉👍🏻 Believe me, it wasn’t bad at all! Portuguese is not an easy language 😅
Your videos just keep getting better and better. Thanks for this one.
Christina - Such a pretty smile.
Thank you :-)
nah manly smile
As portuguese it was really nice to see how you guys love Portugal and what you think of "my" country.
Hope you're enjoying this country much as I'm enjoying see your videos!
Thank you so much Bruno! 😃 We are LOVING your country!!!
Bruno Rocha but the more people come the more the housing market will become expensive €€
I have been looking forward to this video (was little disappointed last two weeks - not because of the content - but because my heart was so set on this series)..
Aww - you are too sweet! I think you're going to like the upcoming videos we have planned for the series! :)
thankyou so good and informative! keep up the great work
Very informative video! Thank you! I am really curious about property tax in Portugal!
Wow! In parts of the Bay Area, you can only get a plot of land! :( Now you have to check out central Portugal!
Yep, I'm in Arbon (TG) and there are basically no houses under 1 million, but shockingly, there is an apartment in my building currently listed for 375K and it is the lowest-priced offering in the whole town. The building is older, but we're just steps away from the Bodensee. So nice.
I luv watching your videos. So informative and nice living!
You give me so much hope
Stay positive and motivated and you WILL get there Claryliz!!!
Many thanks, I am hoping to move to the silver coast within the next 18 months, some of your videos have been a massive help , will check out some more of them in the coming weeks
you also Forgot to mention that in future when your children become Portugese citizens Then can go to any European College or University extremely cheap or even for free.
Great point! Thanks for adding!!!
I came across you channel yesterday. You guys are a beautiful family. I am so happy things are working out for you. Keep up the hard and smart work!
Great. Looking forward to it.
Great comments: I love Algarve but my husband want more to Northern so will be easy to visit his family in Europa.
I cannot wait to see what this series has in store! Question, how did your family make the decision to move abroad in relation to immediate and extending family? Grandparents, cousins, etc. what went into consideration?
Stumbled across your videos and have been watching, so cool of you to share all of this
Thanks for the insight given. After seeing those beaches in central and what you can get for your money, your really giving me food for thought. Come on Christina spill the beans lol. Ps that dance at 12:30 🤣🤣🤣
LOL! I (Christina) want to spill the beans so bad, but we have to wait! LOL!
Great videos. Would be extremely helpful to impose a map over audio each time when talking about cities/towns or neighborhoods.
I recently read that positive optimistic people have a much better chance of reaching a very high age than pessimists. If that is true then this couple is surely going to live to be over 100 years old (both of them, not in total).
