    I’ve been trying to get my numbers right for a while now and your method of adding up the numbers is the easiest I’ve seen. Thanks very much. Also appreciate the book titles.

    So the magic number is 13. I knew 10 was in the equation. I've been using charts for years, and the a2 calc as of recently.. but i'm going to a state job interview and thought i should probably know how to do this without that stuff. So much easier than those charts make it look. Thanks brother.

    How would you calculate a multiple level master system? Like if you wanted to include a grandmaster key in the second example?

  • @stevejobs8820
    @stevejobs8820 4 роки тому

    Just starting to get into these cores. Newbie question are there many types of keyways that are most commonly used?

  • @kk39shadow
    @kk39shadow 6 років тому +4

    Could this be done in reverse? I mean finding the key cuts from the pin measurements? If you have a core without a change key, but do know the master key bitting, could you use the pin measurements to figure out the change key bitting?
    BTW, I am also a huge Falcons fan!!!

    • @Thethreetumblers
      @Thethreetumblers  6 років тому +1

      Yes, if you know the master key bitting, you could decode the pins to find out the control key and a change for it. Here is a decoding worksheet I put together to do just that: www.lockreference.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/SFIC-A2-Decoding.pdf
      Go Falcons!

      Excellent, Thank You! It took me a minute to figure out the math, but I got it. I got a few cores in a lot of locks, that only came with 1 master key, so I decided to learn more about sfic. I am by no means a locksmith!

    Your explanation of hand writing out a sfic pinning is easy enough for anyone willing to learn to follow and practice. Thank you for your time brother.
    Any place you recommend for the books you mentioned?

    How do you determine what type of system you’re dealing with?

    • @Thethreetumblers
      @Thethreetumblers  5 років тому

      You would need to either decode the key or the pins in the core to accurately determine what system (A2, A3, A4) you're using.

    • @lokpikr999
      @lokpikr999 5 років тому

      Tyler J. Thomas Thanks.Also, what is the difference between the systems.Is it the height of the pin chambers?

    • @Thethreetumblers
      @Thethreetumblers  5 років тому

      @@lokpikr999 Yep. Different key depths and pin lengths. There is a lot of information on all at LockReference.com. Library>Locks>Cores & Cylinders>Manufacturer's Literature and Manuals

      Best hasn't used anything but the A2 system in a long long long time. It's obsolete and most likely you wont come across it.

    Hi Tyler! Thanks for this video and the worksheets on your website. I’m new to sfic’s / A2. I have some pinned up cylinders I’m using to teach myself this system. None of the cylinders came with any keys. I have measured all the pins but do not understand how to get the correct key bitting from the pins. Maybe I’m over thinking it. Can you point me in the right direction please. Thank you! Jason

    can i get your help with a yale pin code?

  • @Mirauge

    Really great and helpful video. Thank you.
    Would love to see anything access control. How to deal with mag strikes that fail or whatever else.
    Also on this topic and I noticed another viewer below asked about deciphering a control key from a master key. I downloaded your chart I've seen that before somewhere. But I would need digital calipers and to measure every pin. Assuming I had a core. Which makes sense
    But if I had both a user key and a master key.. could I then use the same steps without having to remove a core first and add the two together subtract from 23 to get the build up/control key? Would you be interested in doing that for a video. I think lots would find it useful. To often you get to a job and you dont have a control key. But how can I remove a core without ruining it first. To remove all the other cores. (Yes you can pick to core. Sometimes that makes sense to do. Other times it would be faster and easier to have the customer gather me both keys If that's all it takes.
