Don't forget that Raul Julia (M. Bison) was dying of cancer during the filming, and he only took the role because his kids loved Street Fighter and he thought it would be a good way for them to remember him. Keep in mind that this was his last role he ever took before dying, and if he didn't take this role then his last movie would've been "The Burning Season", which he later won a Golden Globe, and Emmy, and a Screen Actor's Guild award for, posthumously. The man was a total legend.
Yeah dude I saw a documentary on that but his acting non the less saved this movie. Everyone else's acting was terrible but his was spot on...and I think he was the perfect bison
@Mike Elshier Yeah and another UA-cam channel made a video about why Street Fighter is one of the best "bad" movies ever made: ua-cam.com/video/KhzjWfvsick/v-deo.html
I would’ve never thought of Raul Julia, if you were to ask me to cast a Street Fighter movie, as he’s way too small and skinny (and yes, I know he was dying of cancer at the time) and hardly the large, intimidating figure I think Bison should be. But f*** me if he didn’t play that role to perfection. He’s easily, the main reason Street Fighter is one of my favorite movies, in spite of how bad it is.
You forgot the single best line from Bison, though. "I'm sorry... I don't remember any of it." "You don't remember?!" "To you - the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me? It was... Tuesday."
Kind of surprised no one mentioned the Mortal Kombat movie. True, the second one was horrible, but the first one was pretty good, even with the student film-level effects.
The only complaint about Mortal Kombat that I do kinda get is that they made a PG-13 rated adaptation of a Hard-M rated game. While I do accept that as a legitimate complaint, it's also not like it was really a surprising change, and frankly the movie was still lots of fun regardless.
Guys seriously, we need more personal lists like this. Where you all just talk at the camera half scripted, it's kinda refreshing. I'm also quite surprised none of you mentioned the Super Mario Bros film, for shame...
The Super Mario Bros. Movie was so awful that it's a classic, like Ed Wood's Plan 9 From Outer Space. I still can't help giggling when I picture that little wind-up bobomb.
I was just coming down to the comments to mention the Mario movie! I won't deny it's pretty bad but I was 9 when I saw it and I loved it. To this day that movie and To Wong Foo are a large part of my irrational love of John Leguizamo. And I can't believe I forgot that Double Dragon movie was a thing.
TheHutchy01 - The “It was Tuesday” line is legitimately one of my top 10 favorite movie lines of all time. I burst out laughing every time I see that scene.
Man thinking of that he can see his in bad shape but he never let it get to them and even trained some for this movie and for it to be his last was great it was all for his kids
I think a lot of video game movies are fun guilty pleasures. But I think Silent Hill is underrated. It was an original plot that I thought was faithful to themes from the source material.
It wasn't supposed to be an original plot, though. A big part of the problem was that they kept telling people they'd get a faithful adaptation of the first game, then giving something that didn't have much in common with the game. And mother was most certainly NOT god in the eyes of a child in the game they were supposed to be adapting.
@whitebasicmammal Do you SERIOUSLY have to bring politics into this? No one cares about politics when we're talking about a MOVIE ADAPTATION OF A GAME.
The real problem with _Silent Hill_ IMO is that it shaped its plot around providing symbolic significance for the same imagery from the games. It was what most video game movies are: an elaborate excuse to show off things fans would recognize from the games, like a trophy room in motion.
Eh. It's got the worst version of "Bloody Tears" that's ever been done, robbed of everything that makes that tune memorable, and that's pretty terrible.
@@Thy_Boss They didn't have to use traditional Castlevania music at all. Personally, I find the soundtrack of the series to be barely present and extremely forgettable. Adding Bloody Tears was pure fan-service. So you can take it or leave it.
Tomb Raider also has one of the best lines ever: (When the courier hands Lara a package after the crazy arial battle) “I woke up this morning and just hated everything.”
Useless information: I actually live in the state (West Virginia) were Silent Hill was set in the movie. Complete coal mines falling apart underground and a loud siren that blares every time there is a fire. You can hear it for miles. That means shit is going down.
I don't get why people whine about the Warcraft movie being hard to follow. I've only played one of the games and it wasn't even the first one and it made perfect sense to me.
They wanted a movie that could make sense without playing one of the games, which is fairly important for outsiders. Its why Marvel is so popular: they do the origin so you know the character even if you havent read a single comic panel.
I liked Warcraft. Just wish it would have done better cause the sequels would have had even better stories. Really want the rise/ fall of Arthas as a movie. That story would also have the rise of Syvanis in it. You could have called it "Rise of the Lich King"
Call Me Nefret Arguably the best movies and tv series kill him off. As evidenced by the masterpieces that are The Lord of The Rings and Game of Thrones (in my opinion of course). :-)
Game of Thrones a masterpiece?? As in a masterpiece in being a horribly written tv show with many plot holes and inconsistencies that nobody notices? Although he only starred in season 1 when the show was still good.
supershinigami1 Well, like I said, it's my opinion, so I get not everyone will agree, I'm sorry you don't like GoT, and I do understand the general criticism :-) I'm biased because I absolutely adore the show, but not everybody has to like it obviously. And that also makes that I won't notice some of the flaws and mistakes that are made :-) I'll put it this way: The public opinion generally considers the movies and TV shows in which he dies as good ones :-) sorry for my unfortunate formulation!
I never played Warcraft, I still loved that movie. It had Magic, fantasy and some epic combat scenes that I love dearly. It actually made me want to pick up Warcraft and it rekindled my love of fantasy.
Many fans of the Warcraft games love the movie far more than the critics, it's the first game to movie adaptation to be a service to the fans of the games and not the strangers. Also don't use Wowwiki, wowwiki doesn't give any accurate information and most of it is headcanon, like leprechauns and giant beetle battleground
I have to admit I loved the film, too. I have played wow but didn't had much info about the lore the movie goes on about but I totally freaked out as I saw the green orc baby and just had to Google if I was right that this baby woud become thrall
Mar Speedsman it's not really their own wiki. Not for over 10 years now. Everyone contributed to it went to wowpedia which has been constantly updated when new information comes out.
I've watched the crap out of the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time movie. Even though the story goes in a widly different direction from the game and the plot isn't the most clever, I feel like the characters were interesting and motivated, and the parkour scenes were a real eye candy.
Ironically enough, the one part about the movie I don't like is Ben Kingsley. Don't get me wrong, he's a tremendous actor, one of the greats, but in here, he just doesn't quite fit for me. Maybe it's that terrible mascara he has.
I would be really angry that no one mentioned Mortal Kombat, but then I realised, Mortal Kombat was a pretty good movie. The music will never escape my brain, the fight scenes are pretty good, it follows the story pretty well(except the Scorpion-Sub Zero rivalry, but let's be honest, they couldn't stuck a major plot line like this in a 1.5 hour movie), the casting is great (to the point Kano's persona was changed after the movie to be more like that version). Too bad they soiled it's legacy with the second one.
I actually really like Doom. The criminal misrepresentation of the story and slow plot are all worth it for that one and half minutes of fps bad assery
@@zephyrerazortail5478 Nah, i need to cause it looks pretty badass, but i also have an overwhelming love for Doom, which probably tints my vision of that scene a bit.
Which are our guilty pleasures when it comes to video game movie adaptations? With another release looming on the horizon, we decided to defend some of our favourites.
I'm with Jane on Silent Hill. I actually watched the film before picking up the game (granted this was back when it wasn't easy to find) and even today I have the sound of the siren as my alarm!
This is cheating because it's reversed but... I'd never seen a James Bond film until I played Goldeneye. I was like 13 when the game came out and didn't know it was based off of an amazing film franchise, so again reversal by a game leading me to a film.
The thing about Raul Julia in the Street Fighter movie is that he only accepted the role because his kids wanted him to. He was also suffering from stomach cancer while filming the movie.
Just watched Street Fighter after a loooong time. And it was better than i remember it. And yes,Zangief was awesome. Also, everyone manages to get their video game outfit by the end of the movie.Even Balrog got his gloves.
He really was a cool character in his movie appearances. =) *Zangief:* "General Bison is a bad guy? If you know then why do you work for him? " *Dee Jay:* "Because he paid me a freakin' fortune, Man! If you know what's good for you, you'll save your own ass!" *Zangief:* _"... you got paid?"_ _watches a truck barreling towards them on a monitor_ *Zangief:* _"Quick! Change the channel!"_ *Zangief:* "And I say, 'Zangief, You are a _Bad_ guy, but this does not mean you are bad _guy."_ - Wreck-It Ralph
Luke and Ellen are really becoming much better entertainers. I have to confess I didn't really like them at first, especially since you have to compare them to the ridiculously polished and talented oxbox trio, but they're smoothing out all the wrinkles and I'm warming up to them now.
Bob Yatron Yeah, they started out fairly rough at first kind of like ancillary pieces. But to be honest, did you go real well with Jane, Mike, and Andy now. Ellen's love for tumor raider, a movie I think is "meh" at best, it is really fun to watch to her emotional expressions. I even saw where one of the posters said she was sick and still that love for the movie shown through. That's awesome.
When Ellen talks I feel like we're having a conversation, it's really unique and different from the other hosts. She's quite interesting to listen to, even if not watching. Love ya Ellen! Also, sue me, but I kinda enjoyed Doom, embarrassingly enough.
That & the end are the only good bits for me, though I'm not one to judge too much as I was too young to play the game so only played after at 1/2 friends who had copies of the games after the movie came out
JanickGers0 it's not all the time, but I agree. I think it's easy to notice this when she is speaking about something she really cares about. She's authentic and genuine.
I unironically love Warcraft. Orcs are one of my favorite (and criminally underused in fantasy films) races, and the film treated them well. It was one of the few films I've ever seen twice in cinemas.
I only ever saw Red Dwarf after i saw the Tomb Raider movie. I went back and re-watched the Tomb Raider movie just a few weeks ago, and had one of those "Holy Crap" moments that mess with your whole worldview when i recognized him.
Omar Harris would be cool if Nolan North played drake in the film as they based drakes looks on him and they made the games a similar way to making a movie using mostly motion capture
Silent Hill is my personal favourite video game movie. The end is shite but they did so many things right so I can't fault it. And just to say it, Double Dragon and Street Fighter are awful movies but I love them too lol
I'm curious what you think that movie did "right", excluding, of course, "having things in it from the game where I can point at it and say, 'Ooh, that's from the game'", since that's not something it does "right".
I actually loved the ending. The twist where you realize the main character, her kid, and the cop (cersei lannister) have been dead since like 15 minutes into the movie? That was an example of a non-shitty M. Night Shyamalan twist.
The Resident Evil Series has been amazing. It started out as a half-assed adaptation of the games, but by the third film branched out into its own weirdness, and has now become a face-punching box of its own insanity.
Aidan Callahan perfection might be shooting a little high if you want a list of games. certainly there are movie to game adaptations that exceeded expectations and turned out rather well but nearly none of them were perfect
Not really... Not compared to Legends and Fall of Reach (And I sort of love/hate Fall of Reach, or the non-titular two thirds of the book they made into a webseries instead of putting terminals in Halo 5, grrrr).
I have got to agree, that my favourite ever film adaptation of a game, which (whilst not *entirely* faithful to the original material) I personally think improves upon it in several ways, is Silent Hill. The characterisation and casting is pretty on point, the atmosphere is bang on and for the most part - extremely effective, it includes the various meditations on the human condition that were the defining aspects of the Silent Hill franchise in Silent Hill 1 and 2, most of the characters are in some way both relatable and believable (with the obvious exception, for most people, of Pyramid Head... unless I have a REALLY bad hangover...) it avoids being too cheesy and is both (contextually) plausible and believable, as are the relationships between the various different characters. So props to you Jane for picking that one. It's an awesome film which I must have watched at least 5 times to date. Tomb Raider was pretty good too. Also... SEAN BEAN LIVES!!
definitely. The first three make sense, and the last couple just completely went overboard and if you go in knowing you're just going for zombie fighting, then you're gonna have a good time lol
Really? I always thought the Mortal Kombat movie was better than Street Fighter. It stuck to the lore of the game where it needed to, took liberties where it needed to, the action was as violent as it could get away with, and the script while incredibly stupid and campy match the tone of the games perfectly. It also effected the series lore in a number of very meaningful ways that still stand to this day like Kano being made an Australian, the number of tournaments being upped from 1 to 10, making Raiden more of a mentor and father figure rather than a vengeful and mostly just bored god out to protect the humans he enjoys messing with, etc. In terms of how much of a positive impact a video game movie had very few reach the heights of the first Mortal Kombat movie, with the notable exception of the Riddick films.
Ah, fair dues. It's just that every time I've defended Mortal Kombat people have come out to tell me how wrong I am so I thought public opinion on the movie had soured recently. I always thought it was a good/mediocre sci-fi martial arts hybrid but many people say it's puke on celluloid.
That soundtrack though, Nothing more memorable then that music. MORTLA KOMBAAT tun tun tun tun tun or however you spell laser electro or whatever the fck it was.
The first Mortal Kombat movie was awesome, I simply love what they did with Goro, and speaking of Fighting Game Movies, the whole time I was watching Tekken (2010) I was only waiting until Yoshimitsu showed up, lolz
Yes and no. The exception to this that I've seen (yes, I've watched the Tomb Raider movies he was in) is When Evil Calls. True, it was a TV miniseries (think a blend of the 1980 It "miniseries" with the movie One Missed Call with a dash of "The Monkey's Paw"), but it has Sean Pertwee as a janitor, Dominique Pinon as a police detective that is also the poster child for cirrhosis of the liver (he happily pours a bottle of whiskey onto his corn flakes), Chris Barrie as the school headmaster (and father of the main character), and has appearances by Gemma Chan (in her debut role) and Sean Brosnan (Pierce's son). The thing was so bad it's good and the biggest saving grace is Chris Barrie pretty much stealing every scene he's in...his fully nude rebuke of a young man (who wished to see through clothes...he was watching a girls' volleyball practice as he received the text, you see) was just *hilarious*.
Not to forget, the first-person-perspective done right. So, yeah, a terrible adaptation of the game, but a good action movie, that had a unique technique.
If you're talking all movies, the various Pokemon films dominate, with Legend of Darkrai being my favorite. If you're talking only Hollywood made films, Mortal Kombat is the best hands-down with the "so-bad-it's-good" Street Fighter film being my second favorite
It was actually a really solid movie. Most people don't know, however, that it was not based on the games but instead based on the books. That's mostly why people give it crap... they haven't read the books. The movie stands well on its own, so if you ignore the canon, it's actually a pretty awesome film.
@@MarilynMonRover Well, except for the end where they pay homage to the game by going into first person shooter view. Which was hilarious and awesome, imo.
Yes! Its sequel Mortal Kombat: Annihilation also exists and 10 year old me loved them both, in fact I still have the theme song in my itunes because of them MORTAL KOMBAT
Yeah I have to strongly agree! I thought both Hitman movies were great! Also I haven't seen WOW yet but I have to agree that I really enjoyed every other movie on this list! Also some other ones to add, Resident Evil...all of them to be honest. Just awesome zombie killing fun! Need For Speed was pretty good too. Can't think of anymore right now! But honestly why hasn't there been a live action MGS movie? I say live action because I realize MGS in itself is basically a movie...
Not to pick favorites, but Jane Douglas is my favorite of the outside xbox/outside xtra team. Literally I agree with everything she discusses. For the Silent Hill movie I remember seeing it in theaters and just loving it. As a fan of Silent Hill I felt the movie did an excellent job. Instead of going with a male lead to play Henry to follow the game more, they chose a female lead, and personally I think Radha Mitchell is phenomenal in every acting role she's portrayed. Check out Pitch Black, it's one of the Chronicles of Riddick movies. Anyway, love this channel and can't stop watching episodes even though I actually have stuff to do today. DAMN YOU FOR BEING SO ADDICTING sorry to scream you know I love you outside xbox/xtra. Keep up the good work!
I should punch myself for saying this, but I kinda liked In The Name Of The King. Not in a "it's actually an underrated gem, and despite a few flaws it's perfectly watchable" kind of way. It's just so bad that I come right the way back round to loving it. But also Ron Perlman's in it and that man could be cast as the queen and frankly I'd give the performance and casting a perfect 10/10
Ron Perlman alone was enough to get me to watch, then you add Davies, Lillard, Statham, and Liotta (just to name a few)? Hell yes, my dad and I enjoyed watching it quite a bit!~
Mortal Kombat that theme tune always got me "pumped" but perhaps you didn't put it on here because it doesn't have crippling flaws? Then I look at Warcraft on your list and that's pretty much faultless in my opinion. Personally I didn't feel I needed any game knowledge beyond what I had from Warcraft 2 which only told me that the races were equal and warring. It has some flaws like every film has but I think it only had trouble floating because people are used to conversions between the media's being so bad, as well as existing IPs having to ride with a complex mixture of perception or preconceptions.
The reason Warcraft is considered a terrible video game movie is because critics thought it was "too LotR." Because clearly anything that has orcs in it has to be Lord of the Rings-inspired. I mean, why wouldn't it be? Not like there's other fantasy settings out there.
No, I don't think a TES movie would work because the surface level story is just recycled Tolkien/D&D. On a story level, the only interesting part of TES is its deep lore - getting into the creation of the world and how that's no moon, that's a portal to Oblivion. And there's just no way to put that onscreen. Any attempt to film TES would just turn into a third-rate LOTR ripoff. TES is best when it's about the stories YOU are making while interacting with the world of Tamriel. That just can't translate to film.
I ated the first two movies when they tried to mimic the games (their representation of Nemesis still makes me cringe), from then on I started to like the movies
Cailus Griffin I'm just as confused. The ENTIRE crew is bloody exceptional. Even the studios gave lots of freedom to the creative team apparently. Maybe the long runtime of games would better lend themselves to TV rather than film.
i think people who don't understand the story in assassins creed complain about it being confusing, and also someone said if you like the dan brown book films (the da vinci code and others) would like it, which means its perfect to me
By taking themselves so incredibly seriously it's amazingly boring. Also, Cotillard clearly is there to pay her taxes, and she's pivotal for the whole movie. So there's that.
I feel like the curse of video game movies lies with the critics, not the movies. They don't accurately represent what the general populace thinks about a movie and people are beginning to take them less seriously.
KnightCaster that's definitely the problem with the critics of Warcraft (almost any normal person I've ever asked about the movie liked it), but most of the other video game movies are objectively terrible, even if they are enjoyable for one reason or another
Sir Billius no, it's because they're usually very bad. Mainly because a good game doesn't always translate to a movie, and a lot of them are from an era where there wasn't the technology to get much story across (although now the problem would be that there's too much story). Doom's story is basically just a paragraph, and 90 minutes of shooting demons isn't really going to work.
It would be easy to blame critics for Warcraft movie, but it wouldn't be fair. While I liked the movie very much,I can understand that to someone who doesn't know the lore of Warcraft universe it would be confusing.Even a friend that played Warcraft 3 but didn't know the lore beyond(or before) it constantly asked me about who was who and what was what in the movie. And we always say, movie should be capable to stand on it's own and not rely on other mediums to fill the holes up. That being said,I would love if the sequels were made just for fans, which unfortunately is not going to happen. I would love to see Arthas on big screen.
I just fell even more in love with Luke after this video! Someone talking that passionately about World of Warcraft! That was all I was missing from these channels! THUMBS UP, Luke!
Of course Ellen and Jane chose Tomb Raider and Silent Hill, which are two of my favorites! The fire in the church at the end of Silent Hill (and the live burning) still gives me nightmares!
I love the Warcraft movie, despite its flaws, such as the fact that Dalaran wasn’t floating at that point in time. Not a perfect match to the lore, but I think that actually adds a bit of interest for me personally. It’s probably the dumbest hill I’ll ever die on but at least I won’t die alone.
It's a reference to a scene in the TV series "Red Dwarf" where the actor who played Lara's butler tries to make his salute more, well, posh for lack of a better word and does this weird hang-twirling-spinny-thing she tries to mimic. Except even more derpy.
TB2 > TB3 though. I mean unless your problem was in space TB3 was pretty useless and all Scott Tracy in TB1 ever did was look at stuff. It was Virgil in TB2 who got shit done nine times out of ten.
I gotta agree with you. Doom was crap in all the right ways. Karl Urban and The Rock were great casting choices and they even threw in a first person chainsaw rampage. Best videogame film ever.
Super Mario Bros was a good film, if you watch it as a stand-alone film with video game references. And I loved street fighter the movie (yes, I understand the plot).
I never knew that the Mario Brothers film was a thing until like 10 years after it came out. When I saw Nostalgia Critic review it the plot strangely seemed familiar to me. Then I realized that roughly 80% of the plot of the Mario Brothers film was lifted from a back to the future animated tv show episode called Forward to the Past which aired a full 2 years before the Super Mario Brothers movie came out.
Much to their credit, both Raul Julia ,Jean Claude and other actors took their roles seriously, which actually made the film memorable. While I'm not sure if this counts, I thought "Halo 4 Forward unto Dawn" was actually a well done movie. The eye candy laden "Dead or Alive" movie should be included.
Pretty sure alot of people like the Warcraft movie but because certain people didn't, it got a low score. I mean, in 1 of the interviews, the interviewer constantly refers to LotR. LotR is awesome, but it's not Warcraft. Not related at all. And if they wanted to keep the exact story, they would need a lot more movies which would probably drag it out too much :P Really can't wait for the next part. There's a few game movies that I like: Warcraft, Silent Hill, Resident Evil (1-3, not the whole "everyone's cloned" deal after that :P ), Tomb Raider,...
Not necessarily. I enjoyed the heck out of warcraft. I only really know the game a little. I never played it. I didn't need to play it to enjoy it. To me it told a really good story.
Mar Hawkman that's what i was going to say. I liked it simply bc im a warcraft lore nerd and it was awesome to see the story played out but otherwise, kind of a let down tbh. I had to play Cliff Notes for the people watching with me. They were totally confused with what was going on. But i suppose they made the movie just for the people who would already know the story
@Shiny Shinx Exactly... ish. King Llaine didn't die willingly in the game, and the canonical ending is that Stormwind was sacked by the orcs - which is not shown in the movie. I still think that there's potential for a series on Netflix or Amazon Prime covering the major events of the games up to and including World of Warcraft.
The street fighter movie is no joke one of my favourite films. It just makes me so happy seeing such glorious stupidity being played out by such talented actors.
no mention of Dead or Alive?! it got everything you could wish for in a DOA film, and you know what i mean by "everything", it's probably the best video game movie of all time!
Warcraft was great for everyone who knows the lore. But to anybody else is quite confusing. If you went to the theater knowing nothing about Warcraft, you would have hard time piecing it all together. But for every fan it was well scripted, well acted movie with great CGI that they wanted to see. I loved the movie and I hope they made enough money to consider making a sequel.
The thing with the movie for world of war craft was how much they just talked...maybe if there wasn’t as much than ya I would have loved it...(by the way love you outsidexbox!!)
I enjoyed the first Hitman movie, I liked both Tomb Raider movies, I really like the DOOM movie and I LOVE the Resident Evil movies, despite never being a big fan of the games. FUCKING hyped for the Assassin's Creed movie too!!! I couldn't care less what critics think of it.
Honestly I loved the Double Dragons movie, mostly since it was a set up to the cartoon series and that was one of my favorite cartoons when I was a kid.
One thing that actually makes me Warcraft movie to make sense... is the In-Game lore: Through quests and events we witness in the game (Warlord's of Draenor expansion ESPECIALLY), we find out there are hundreds, if not thousands of seperate Timelines of Azeroth. Which adds to the Movie itself, it's another Azeroth Timeline that didn't go exactly 100% in events, like things went in OUR Timeline (Where we play in, in the acutal WoW game...).
Yeah, even the actress who played Alessa in the first one(Jodelle Ferland) was confused by they way the redid everything for the second. She didn't even know they had decided to make a sequel until it was done already.
Raul Julia was a gift to the world. I can't believe Andy didn't mention the forever iconic. "It was Tuesday" line. Simply perfection. Also, why did that Double Dragon announcer say cops like that? "CAWPS rule the day."
i didnt learn from WoW that the horde wasnt a savage "horde", but from warcraft 3. the most deranged race from that universe is, again, the humans...mediv, arthas, kel'thuzad and so on
Don't forget that Raul Julia (M.
Shit really? I didn't know that. Sad. But he was a great actor
Yeah dude I saw a documentary on that but his acting non the less saved this movie. Everyone else's acting was terrible but his was spot on...and I think he was the perfect bison
This just enhances Raul Julia's already huge awesomeness!
I don't remember any of it."
"You don't remember?!"
"To you - the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me? It was... Tuesday."
ironballs16 i allways love '"Quick change the channel!!!" Ha ha
Classic!
It's a tragedy that scene wasn't mentioned.
"of course!"
Not a bad line, but as Andy pointed out, awesome because of S-rank acting.
Kind of surprised no one mentioned the Mortal Kombat movie. True, the second one was horrible, but the first one was pretty good, even with the student film-level effects.
No... It was fun and not hot garbage. It was no good. And that's fine. We are allowed to like 'not good'
Pretty much everyone loves the first Mortal Kombat movie.
The first Mortal Combat movie is good because it's Enter the Dragon.
yeah I was waiting for it wtf
The only complaint about Mortal Kombat that I do kinda get is that they made a PG-13 rated adaptation of a Hard-M rated game. While I do accept that as a legitimate complaint, it's also not like it was really a surprising change, and frankly the movie was still lots of fun regardless.
Guys seriously, we need more personal lists like this. Where you all just talk at the camera half scripted, it's kinda refreshing. I'm also quite surprised none of you mentioned the Super Mario Bros film, for shame...
WhammyTime91 That movie was BULLSHIT
WhammyTime91 I agree, this video was pretty uniquely great
The Super Mario Bros. Movie was so awful that it's a classic, like Ed Wood's Plan 9 From Outer Space. I still can't help giggling when I picture that little wind-up bobomb.
Dont usually comment but yes I agree with your sentiments entirely, great vid guys!
M. Bison was a dying man chewing the scenery because he could and we love him for it
TheHutchy01 - The “It was Tuesday” line is legitimately one of my top 10 favorite movie lines of all time. I burst out laughing every time I see that scene.
Man thinking of that he can see his in bad shape but he never let it get to them and even trained some for this movie and for it to be his last was great it was all for his kids
If you gotta go, go with a bang
What do you mean chewing the scenery?
@@smd544 chewing on the scenery is a saying for when an actor is being an over-the-top ham.
Ellen doing the Red Dwarf salute is something the world didn't know it needed.
The logic for "Croft boy" fits but it doesn't have the same feel to it. Maybe "Croft Candy"?
I just know that when I was watching it, I was so mad at that table for being in the way.
Just a couple of Crofty bois
It's been a long, long time, but have you considered "Croft Dinner"?
Honestly... I loved Final Fantasy: Advent Children just because I thought Cloud was some serious eye candy.....
I have no shame.
Same. I never had a PS1 when I was younger and Advent Children was the only reason I was dying to play FFVII ......that and the kickass battle music.
Love that movie. The fights are very fun. Especially Tifa in the church.
It's a decent movie on its own with incredible visuals. It's just that as an adaption, it's trash.
I came here for someone to say the first Hitman movie
It's not a movie, but the Castlevania Netflix series is actually pretty good.
yes.
That series alone has redeemed decades of horrible VG adaptations.
That’s largely to do with it being written by, and kind of show-run? by comics writer extraordinaire and nyt best seller author Warren Ellis.
Me: Hold on. That's not the Wii Iron Chef ad.
*Realized that it was a perfectly timed normal ad.
*Headbutts desk in embarrassment.
Oh thank God it wasn't just me.
Tomb Raider also has one of the best lines ever:
(When the courier hands Lara a package after the crazy arial battle) “I woke up this morning and just hated everything.”
Useless information: I actually live in the state (West Virginia) were Silent Hill was set in the movie. Complete coal mines falling apart underground and a loud siren that blares every time there is a fire. You can hear it for miles. That means shit is going down.
Do you see monsters created from your guilt and fears?
Holy crap! How do you sleep at night with those sirens?
Wait, I thought that Silent Hill was set in Maine?
Filmed in Virginia, set in Maine, based on the Centralia, Pennsylvania coal fire.
The day this video graced UA-cam was the most important day in your life. For Outside Xtra, it was Tuesday. Because it's Tuesday.
Salen Stormwing I was really hoping for a clip of this
Raul Julia is the Bison of our hearts.
OF COURSE!
Considering that my friend, that never played warcraft, Understood it quite easily, I believe they succedded.
I think it was fun, and I didn’t find it confusing, despite consuming zero Warcraft content in my life.
I wholly agree with Jane and Sean Bean. Any movie that lets him live is a great movie.
Two words: Jupiter Ascending
Call Me Nefret Arguably the best movies and tv series kill him off. As evidenced by the masterpieces that are The Lord of The Rings and Game of Thrones (in my opinion of course). :-)
Two more words: The Martian
Ellen: Surprisingly combat-effective digger-in-the-dirt.
Andy: Flamboyant, charismatic adventurers.
Jane: Horror and parental themes.
Luke: Orcs with feelings.
Mike: Ludicrous slapstick dragons.
Well done, you just described Oxventure
Yes.
Warcraft movie Tomatometer:
Critics: 28%
Audience: 73%
There's a considerable disconnect there.
Isn't there always disconnect between critics and consumers nowadays
I think one or both of these groups must have a considerable bias towards and/or against the movie.

I liked the Prince of Persia movie. I never played the games, so I am not sure how it holds up there, though.
Ya I liked it too even though it was a terrible script.
I actually thought it was originally a movie series for years after watching it as a kid.
ApexPenguin it doesn't really flow well with time ;)
ApexPenguin umm it was not a good representation of the game honestly
The Prince of Persia games are known to be worlds apart, so it's not really unsurprising that it had little to do with the source material.
Wow... Can't even trust their own wiki...
Oh, so Warcraft does has a reliable Wiki, it's just not Wowwiki. Okay, that makes way more sense, now
I have to say that lord of the rings is like that too.... U dont ask why where and when u just enjoy the movie the story and the characters...
I've watched the crap out of the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time movie. Even though the story goes in a widly different direction from the game and the plot isn't the most clever, I feel like the characters were interesting and motivated, and the parkour scenes were a real eye candy.
Yeah, I thought that movie was entertaining, and did a good job of working in elements from the game without being overwhelmed by them.
Completely agree, one of the few adaptations that didn't make me cringe!
Agree I really liked Prince of Persia
Ironically enough, the one part about the movie I don't like is Ben Kingsley. Don't get me wrong, he's a tremendous actor, one of the greats, but in here, he just doesn't quite fit for me. Maybe it's that terrible mascara he has.
I also really liked that movie.
Have you seen Hardcore Henry?
@@zephyrerazortail5478 Nah, i need to cause it looks pretty badass, but i also have an overwhelming love for Doom, which probably tints my vision of that scene a bit.
@@quillanjacobson1478 You definitely need to, since it's a love letter for FPS games.
@@quillanjacobson1478 hardcore henry was amazing
Plus Karl Urban and the Rock, I mean, yay!~
Which are our guilty pleasures when it comes to video game movie adaptations? With another release looming on the horizon, we decided to defend some of our favourites.
I'm with Jane on Silent Hill. I actually watched the film before picking up the game (granted this was back when it wasn't easy to find) and even today I have the sound of the siren as my alarm!
Outside Xtra maybe the portal movie that will maybe be bad (portal is one of my favorite game)
Outside Xtra I don't know why but I loved the doom movie
This is cheating because it's reversed but... I'd never seen a James Bond film until I played Goldeneye. I was like 13 when the game came out and didn't know it was based off of an amazing film franchise, so again reversal by a game leading me to a film.
Yeah
The Prince of Persia movie was genuinely pretty solid, once I got past the divergence from the game
mr Gyllenhaal? Sure B-)
Agreed. It wasn't perfect, but perfectly enjoyable.
It was perfect and the best one I ever saw. Even the actor Jake Gyllenhaal was the perfect match for the prince.
The thing about Raul Julia in the Street Fighter movie is that he only accepted the role because his kids wanted him to. He was also suffering from stomach cancer while filming the movie.
Bison isn't the only excellent part of the Street Fighter movie - Zangief is priceless comedy as well. "Quick! Change the channel!"
I loved it when Zangief and Honda took their wrestling battle to Bison's model city. It was an obvious gag, but a good one.
I'd forgotten about that - I think I need to watch the movie again (it's been a while, sadly).
Just watched Street Fighter after a loooong time. And it was better than i remember it. And yes,Zangief was awesome. Also, everyone manages to get their video game outfit by the end of the movie.Even Balrog got his gloves.
My favorite part of Street Fighter is where Zangief realizes he's a baddie :-D
He really was a cool character in his movie appearances. =)
*Zangief:* "General Bison is a bad guy? If you know then why do you work for him?
"
*Dee Jay:* "Because he paid me a freakin' fortune, Man! If you know what's good for you, you'll save your own ass!"
*Zangief:* _"... you got paid?"_
_watches a truck barreling towards them on a monitor_
*Zangief:* _"Quick! Change the channel!"_
*Zangief:* "And I say, 'Zangief, You are a _Bad_ guy, but this does not mean you are bad _guy."_
- Wreck-It Ralph
I am bad guy. But it doesn’t mean I am bad guy.
By far one of my favorite episodes of outside xtra that you guys done. Keep up the good work
Luke and Ellen are really becoming much better entertainers.
One of the movies that I have rewatched the most. I don't know why, but I enjoy it everytime I watch it.
I can Change my name Yep, watched it at least three times. The first person sequence is brilliant.
JanickGers0 the first time I watched that sequence I wondered why other movies don't do something like that
That & the end are the only good bits for me, though I'm not one to judge too much as I was too young to play the game so only played after at 1/2 friends who had copies of the games after the movie came out
JanickGers0 it's not all the time, but I agree.
Red dwarf joke just killed me. I love that series.
old school smeghead
I only ever saw Red Dwarf after i saw the Tomb Raider movie. I went back and re-watched the Tomb Raider movie just a few weeks ago, and had one of those "Holy Crap" moments that mess with your whole worldview when i recognized him.
yes after all these years i still think about those late Saturday nights fighting sleep just to watch it
my bf and I bought popcorn just to throw at the screen when we went to see DoA: Dead Or Alive, but we actually enjoyed it. the movie. and the popcorn.
RIPjkripper Yeah I surprisingly enjoyed that movie too
I loved that movie. Never played the game though.
I actually liked it too
Come on... you can't be serious?!!!! xD
Who spends $10 on popcorn just to throw it away?! (yeah, I'm exaggerating, but not much) I'm eating every last kernel!! (unless I'm sharing)
I love how much love the cast show for their chosen movies
I'm still wondering if Nathan Drake is gonna go full Lara Croft and get his own movie.
*thinks about Indiana Jones* Wait a second...
Claudia DeLaney There is an Uncharted film in the works, so you know.
Kousei13 - With the new Spider-Man as Nathan Drake.
Omar Harris would be cool if Nolan North played drake in the film as they based drakes looks on him and they made the games a similar way to making a movie using mostly motion capture
HE BELONGS IN THE VIDEO GAME!!!
I fucking love Uncharted, but I doubt that movie's ever gonna actually happen. It's been in production hell for too long.
im not a WoW fan but i enjoyed the movie.
Synth Curie it was the best game movie so far.
Ionlymadethistoleavecoments yeah game movies can be good if great people are making it
Not being a Warcraft fan probably helps, really.
I thought the Warcraft movie was great, and an incredibly faithful adaptation, take that Marvel w/ Captain America not dying at the end of Civil War!
Always loved my Resident Evil movies.
Silent Hill is my personal favourite video game movie. The end is shite but they did so many things right so I can't fault it. And just to say it, Double Dragon and Street Fighter are awful movies but I love them too lol
We watched this movie in school when I was 13. It was awesome. Didn't even know it was based on a game
The ending was perfect though since once you go to silent hill you dont leave it makes sense she died shes in hell
I LOVED the Tomb Raider movie when I was a kid. It was my favorite move for a long time :P
It still holds a special place in my heart :)
The Resident Evil Series has been amazing. It started out as a half-assed adaptation of the games, but by the third film branched out into its own weirdness, and has now become a face-punching box of its own insanity.
My favourite was 2 and least favourite was 5 of the films
I love all of them
3:04 Whoa my god Ellen's hand passing through another dimension
Oxtra, here's a list idea. 5 Movies Adapted into Video Games that are Pure Perfection.
Aidan Callahan yes do that
Aidan Callahan Id consider Mad Max, it was sooo underrated. I found it to be quite a stunning game
I'm a big fan of Harry Potter: Chamber of Secrets and Spiderman 2 for PS2/Gamecube.
Aidan Callahan perfection might be shooting a little high if you want a list of games. certainly there are movie to game adaptations that exceeded expectations and turned out rather well but nearly none of them were perfect
Skyro Wat It was just a name suggestion, as I am one who loves alliteration, and the combination of words sounded very nice.
I consider Forward Unto Dawn a movie and its pretty damn good.
Yes! Forward Unto Dawn was really exceptional! Too bad the Nightfall movie was really crummy! WE WANT MORE HALO MOVIES! (but good ones please!)
TheRedHoody FUD was tight. And the Fall of Reach was actually pretty fantastic, though not *technically* a movie
I agree with forward unto dawn...when master chief finally shows up its epic.
I love all the Resident Evil movies. They're my guilty pleasure.
Will Mills Totes. They're fun "turn-off-your-brain" movies.
Will Mills yes finally someone who agrees with me.
definitely. The first three make sense, and the last couple just completely went overboard and if you go in knowing you're just going for zombie fighting, then you're gonna have a good time lol
The first one was awesome! Two still good. Three on I stop caring.
the first one was ok the rest are garbage
Remember these are movies that OX like _despite_ their flaws. The general consensus is that Mortal Kombat is a very decent video game adaptation.
Ah, fair dues. It's just that every time I've defended Mortal Kombat people have come out to tell me how wrong I am so I thought public opinion on the movie had soured recently. I always thought it was a good/mediocre sci-fi martial arts hybrid but many people say it's puke on celluloid.
Granted, I think it's mostly fans of the game that enjoy it, but I think that's probably the best a lot of video game movies can hope for :D
Any movie that gives Chris Barre work is worthwhile - he is so talented. Wonderful Rimmer salute, there. :)
I really liked Doom. For a Doom movie it was a mess, but just as an action movie it was awesome. The Rock is a pretty good bad guy
Zadok the Priest - Agreed!
Not to forget, the first-person-perspective done right. So, yeah, a terrible adaptation of the game, but a good action movie, that had a unique technique.
Also worth it to see that bloke out of Death Machine get grabbed by a Hell Knight whilst in the loo.
Even haveing The Rock turn out to be the bad guy and not the star was unexpected and delightful twist.
If you're talking all movies, the various Pokemon films dominate, with Legend of Darkrai being my favorite. If you're talking only Hollywood made films, Mortal Kombat is the best hands-down with the "so-bad-it's-good" Street Fighter film being my second favorite
yeah, mortal kombat actually a decent 90's action flick and they actually listen to the fans how to make the characters looks
Only thing that ruined the Mortal Kombat film was the sequel. How they could go from something so good to something so bad, I'll never know.
Pokemon is animated guys come on
Silent Hill is the best.
+Patrick Marsh And? Movies can be animated.
I'm going to say it..I liked the movie adaptation for Doom. *Awaits the hate she will receive for this valid opinion*

Yes! Its sequel Mortal Kombat: Annihilation also exists and 10 year old me loved them both, in fact I still have the theme song in my itunes because of them

I'm surprised that wasn't on this list.
Me: what about 1995's Mortal Kombat?
also me: Oh, don't open that door.
I really liked Hitman. Although I would have preferred him being a clone rather than just another trained killer.
Yeah I'm not too keen on the recent one but the one with Timothy Olyphant was pretty fun!
Thank you everyone say that the new one is better and I actually preffer the old one
Yeah so many people like to crap on the Timothy Olyphant Hitman but I genuinely thought it was good.
I like the 1st MK movie,, but I have always personally loved the Resident Evil movies...
Same director dude ;)
I would say Mortal Kombat, but we all know that movie has no flaws. Right? . . . Right? *Plays theme song* See I knew I was right.
MORTAL KOMBAT!!
Pemj2k
Test your might!
Yeah, its a surprise Mortal Kombat didn't make this list.
Ellen doing the Rimmer salute just made my day :)
It's got its cheese to it, but In the Name of the King is badass from start to finish.
Ron Perlman alone was enough to get me to watch, then you add Davies, Lillard, Statham, and Liotta (just to name a few)? Hell yes, my dad and I enjoyed watching it quite a bit!~
I'm going to say it...I actually quite like the first Hitman movie
Agreed. Timothy Olyphant's an underrated actor.
OD Smith it is truly a masterpiece of olyphants
I didn't mind it either... but then again I had a seizure almost immediately after it finished, so I don't actually remember much of it.
Me too, but I never played hitman past a demo. Do love Justified tho
It was leagues better than the second
I want a gritty Elder Scrolls movie
Hell yeah
Story has always been Elder Scroll's weakest points though. Its freedom, their main draw, wouldn't be possible in a linear movie so... eh...
I think the elderscrolls would be better as a tv series, like game of thrones
No, I don't think a TES movie would work because the surface level story is just recycled Tolkien/D&D. On a story level, the only interesting part of TES is its deep lore - getting into the creation of the world and how that's no moon, that's a portal to Oblivion. And there's just no way to put that onscreen. Any attempt to film TES would just turn into a third-rate LOTR ripoff.
TES is best when it's about the stories YOU are making while interacting with the world of Tamriel. That just can't translate to film.
Hell no. Games can be modded but movies cannot.
I really love the resident evil series. it's spun out of control into god knows what. I shut my brain off grab the popcorn and enjoy it thoroughly
Ditto.
I ated the first two movies when they tried to mimic the games (their representation of Nemesis still makes me cringe), from then on I started to like the movies
Thought the first one was pretty decent, rest of them, not so much.
Oded Fehr as Carlos Oliveira elevates Extinction to excellence - the zombies and weed scene.
Maybe wanna add Assassin's Creed to this list.
You were meant to end the curse, not join it. DAMN YOU ASSASSIN'S CREED!!!
Aniruddha Shanbhag They screwed up Assassin's Creed? How the hell did they manage that?
i didn't know it was out yet
KnightCaster
that's definitely the problem with the critics of Warcraft (almost any normal person I've ever asked about the movie liked it), but most of the other video game movies are objectively terrible, even if they are enjoyable for one reason or another
I agree whole heartedly.
It's called fanboys vs people can actually be somewhat unbiased
Hideo Kojima once said that his first pick for Solid Snake in a movie would be Hugh Jackman. Consider that.
I just fell even more in love with Luke after this video! Someone talking that passionately about World of Warcraft! That was all I was missing from these channels! THUMBS UP, Luke!
Absolutely loving the Rimmer reference in there.
Of course Ellen and Jane chose Tomb Raider and Silent Hill, which are two of my favorites!
The fire in the church at the end of Silent Hill (and the live burning) still gives me nightmares!
I saw Street Fighter and I literally yelled, “Of course!” In Bison’s voice
I love the section of Jane talking about silent hill. I loved that movie. And hurray for sean bean surviving!
I hear that the thelegend27 is staring in the game of war movie.
You guys need to make more of these "We" videos I love hearing your guys' personal feelings on games!
3:04 What the hell is wrong with her hand and why the hell has nobody noticed
Hahaha I was just gonna comment that
It's a reference to a scene in the TV series "Red Dwarf" where the actor who played Lara's butler tries to make his salute more, well, posh for lack of a better word and does this weird hang-twirling-spinny-thing she tries to mimic. Except even more derpy.
Karl Mjolnir Look closely at that bit of the video; her hand goes all weird
I think it has to do with the green screen, her hand just disappears during the rapid movement
Some thing Yeah that must be it
I could see me getting a lot of hate, but I liked Doom. Also, nice Thunderbird shirt.
I really liked Doom. It's its own action movie.
TB2 > TB3 though. I mean unless your problem was in space TB3 was pretty useless and all Scott Tracy in TB1 ever did was look at stuff. It was Virgil in TB2 who got shit done nine times out of ten.
Agreed, and TB2 was the carrier of TB4 easily making it greater than a single vessel.
I gotta agree with you. Doom was crap in all the right ways. Karl Urban and The Rock were great casting choices and they even threw in a first person chainsaw rampage. Best videogame film ever.
Wasn't the first person scene all done in one shot, with no cuts? That takes some skill in film.
The first Tomb Raider was entertaining as hell. Also, the original Mortal Kombat movie.
Super Mario Bros was a good film, if you watch it as a stand-alone film with video game references.
And I loved street fighter the movie (yes, I understand the plot).
Yes! Thank you! My love for the Super Mario Bros. movie is completely sincere. 😳
The original Mortal Kombat movie was awesome
Yeah, the Warcraft movie only makes sense if you actually know the source material first.
The Professor Layton movie was awesome.
Warcraft was fucking great, nothing else.
Kongaii Agreed.
I knew nothing about the warcraft lore or world and I loved the movie, the movie actually made me give the game a chance.
my father knew nothing about the Warcraft universe and he loved it!
The thing with the movie for world of war craft was how much they just talked...maybe if there wasn’t as much than ya I would have loved it...(by the way love you outsidexbox!!)
Hitman with timothy olyphant was great. Forward unto dawn and prince of Persia were decent as well.
Hitman was good but it diverted from the original story too much. If it was its own stand alone thing I think it would have been OK.
Love the way you guys talk about the things you enjoy
Ellen is freaking awesome.
I liked the original Hitman movie, second one was bad though.
Vako Nightsbane I too enjoyed it
Honestly I loved the Double Dragons movie, mostly since it was a set up to the cartoon series and that was one of my favorite cartoons when I was a kid.
Prince of Persia: The sands of time was good.
Roman Wolf no.
Yes
Roman Wolf it was OK
severe lack of sand zombies thou
Itai Sprachman agreed
Roman Wolf
Not enough time manipulation.
Ellen is giggling like a little girl of course when she was talking about lara croft. Damn Ellen you must love this episode cause you took along time
One thing that actually makes me Warcraft movie to make sense... is the In-Game lore:
Through quests and events we witness in the game (Warlord's of Draenor expansion ESPECIALLY), we find out there are hundreds, if not thousands of seperate Timelines of Azeroth.
Which adds to the Movie itself, it's another Azeroth Timeline that didn't go exactly 100% in events, like things went in OUR Timeline (Where we play in, in the acutal WoW game...).
Despite the many plot-holes I love The Assassins Creed movie.
Silent Hill deserved a god damn sequel. One that was good. Why did Gans hand it to Basset?
