King Bhutan is so humble, he lowered himself so that he could have an eye to eye contact with the new Emperor of Japan. Very thoughtful gesture. Queen of Bhutan is lovely n sweet. Congratulations to the new Emperor and Empress of Japan.

@@candiceruth10 Yes I agree! We can tell that the King and Queen of Bhutan are very humble and non-pompous. They are amongst my favourite royal couple! I also like King Willem Alexander (he served as a commercial plane pilot for over 20 years before he became King, while keeping his identity a secret), talk about living a normal life and earning a wage. So did Queen Maxima, she was a commoner and had jobs before marrying into the royal family. Empress Masako was also a diplomat before marrying the then crown prince of Japan (she turned him down three times before agreeing to finally marry him) He promised he would protect and support her, and he stood by her the whole time she had depression and stress of producing a male heir. Too bad Naruhito didn’t have enough power to change the constitution, to allow primogeniture of either gender, so that their daughter could be the next Empress. Queen Elizabeth II did that for all future British successions.

Empress Masako attended King Willem Alexander’s and Queen Maxima’s wedding, which at that time was considered really special as Masako hadn’t been seen in public for a while. It showed how well the relations are between the Dutch Royal family and the Japanese Imperial family!
It’s too bad Japan doesn’t have primogeniture despite of either gender. It would’ve saved Empress Masako a lot of grief. The Dutch royal family have been so kind to the Empress, inviting them over for visits so Masako could relax from the strictness of the Japanese court. It helped especially in the earlier days when Masako was under a lot of pressure to produce a male heir.

I am not the hugest fan of Prince Charles but I have to say he has a more relaxed demeanour about him than a lot of the other male royalty you see here. This is really fascinating to see how royalty behave around other royalty, and to compare those who have a natural grace about them with those who appear almost to be just acting their part. God I could watch this over and over again; the respect, the nervousness, the social niceties, the cultural differences, the outfits, there is something new to observe each time I watch this.

This is so fascinating, reminds me when representatives of all planets gather in Star Wars. I'm also surprised how "normal" the greetings are between monarchs, hugs, kiss and big smile. Also, love that they dressed in traditional clothings. Royal couple of Bhutan are so elegant!

My husband and I were stationed in Japan when they got married, what a beautiful ceremony. I also sold her some shoes at Macy’s/Pentagon City in the early ‘90s. I recognized her right away along with her security detail. She was kind and gracious

Whenever I come back and watch this video, I always see the clear friendliness and genuine care between Queen Letizia and Empress Masako. I think they shared an unspoken bond, or that they became close as they were commoners who became consorts to two men who rule a kingdom and an empire respectively. This observation is in no way to inflict hate or harm to both women, but to point out something that these two remarkable woman share.

As I watched Queen Letizia greet Empress Masako It looked to me it was a very sincere and friendly feeling of happiness to see each other!

Yess, I guess it has to do with the time the empress spent in Europe during her battle against depression. The dutch royals have been especially supportive and the spanish queen seems to be close to Masako, too. She knows about the pressure you get, being a commoner with an own carriere, turning your life upsidedown, becoming part af a royal family, becoming watched and critzised by everyone.. ( sorry, sarcasm ahead) ...because ofcourse everyone knows, how to behave as a queen and everyone would do a better job...

It cost her a lot to get married under such traditional restrictions.

They have a very special bond. Years ago Masako’s father lived, as a widower, in The Hague, working for the ICC. Masako was not allowed to travel to her father by the Imperial Household. Máxima pleaded Masako’s case with Queen Beatrix who then invited the then crown princess and their daughter several visits to the Netherlands. An invite of the Queen of the Netherlands. Also the Dutch Queen let it be known that Dutch protocol doesn’t require the attendance of members of the Household on private moments. That meant that Masako could see her father a lot, much to the chagrin of the Imperial Household, who normally is omnipresent wherever or whatever their principals do.
Ps the jewelry Queen Máxima is wearing is designed by the French jeweler Mellerio dites Meller. It was ordered in 1889 for Queen Emma, the great-greatmother of the current Dutch King.

Some people seem to use this video to criticize the Queen of Spain. I do not know why so many people have something against her, but I will not allow dehumanizing words in connection to anyone. In my view Queen Letizia behaved pefectly dignified and as a warm human being. Clearly she has a strong bond with the Empress of Japan.

It is just mind blowing that the Emperor is the direct descendant of the Emperor over 2000 years ago. His Y chromosome is passed on for over 2000 years.
Isn’t every man’s chromosome passed down (over 2000 years or more); I always thought every father has a father, or not?
@@geisteswissenschaft well, true. But I think what he meant was that the first emperor’s DNA was passed down to him. No skipping or adoption. Take Queen Elizabeth 2 for example. Her royal lineage only goes far back at 1,400 years, but some of Elizabeth’s ancestor rulers were women directly descendant of a king or a cousin of said king. So, the “Y” chromosome of said king was passed down through a woman. As a result, the Y chromosome that the woman’s children will have is from a different man, and not from a king (I.e. Victoria and Albert). However, since, Japan’s rule of only men becomes emperor, every emperor from 2,000 years ago has that pure Y chromosome, directly from that first Emperor because his DNA continues to be passed down from one Emperor to another, and not Emperor to an Empress. Does that make sense? It did in my head. 😆
And every generation gets shorter because they refuse to have a consort who is taller than the emperor.

Queen Maxima is the best! She seems so warm hearted and you can see Masako likes her a lot! Just like two school friends!
I agree, I just love Queen Maxima for her authenticity and bubbly nature. Her and Empress Masako have a very close bond, probably more so than any of the other royal families. The Dutch royal family had invited the then crown prince and princess on many visits to the Netherlands over the years 😊
