    Thank you for this detailed video!
    I did this on a 2011 2500 Sprinter and took a shortcut. To work around some customization, I removed only the four front bolts. I had to drill two out and managed to unscrew one. I couldn't access the other three without damaging a custom cabinet.
    With that, I was able to flex the board enough to complete the job. That saved the custom work and saved me some effort also.
    So it isn't absolutely necessary to remove them all, in case that helps anyone.

    You did it correctly. I work for FedEx and have about 30 of these. I’ve done at least a dozen of these. I always replace that bottom plastic piece under the energy chain. It’s always a mess like you pointed out. All the pieces you pulled out (springs, etc) are not part of the truck. I end up drilling most of the bolts out. I stock them. One thing to point out. After you get everything back together those three bolts that hold the roller bracket to the door I loosen and adjust the roller up into the track of the sill so it doesn’t ride on that lower plastic protector. Most of mine get so much junk that gets caught it tears up that lower plate.

    • @williamlovall391
      @williamlovall391 2 роки тому +1

      I do not grease or lube the roller. It only attracts dust and dirt. Most of my trucks have 300,000 plus miles on them. Gotta check out your turbo/intake video. The oil coolers on the V6 are fun for sure.

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  2 роки тому

      You may like my intake videos I just released a video showing people that I can delete the flaps but leave the sensor in place. Wouldn’t be a good trick for you because I would assume you guys idle quite a bit and it’s going to get worse fuel economy at idle. With the swirl flaps always open

    9:20 my turbo was seized and also leaking a bunch of oil past the metal seals. Was rebuilt with a gt2056vk rebuild kit with bushings, bearing, seals etc... for $40. Works amazing now. I remember when I saw those t47 torx bolts. I tried t45 and there was too much slop. didn't even know I had a t47 until I checked. Please, if anyone is going to do an oil cooler job, or intakes. MAKE sure to use the correct socket and ALWAYS use some oil and a bit of heat on the bolt. the heat improves oil penetration 10x better. NONE of my exhaust bolts in the back were coming loose with a 2ft breaker bar. after using some oil and a little heat, they came loose first try. was so close to pulling the engine out until the heat did the trick.

    Heya! I have a UK registered, manual transmission, right hand drive XLWB Mercedes Benz Sprinter. I am looking into bringing it to North America but I am concerned that the design of the American Sprinters are so different, I wouldnt be able to get help if my van were to break down. Do you think a USA mechanic would be able to fix a UK sprinter?

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  2 роки тому +1

      Well I don’t think that it being right hand drive is going to be a problem I think the bigger problems going to be finding people that can work on them. Most large cities will have somebody who can work on them but there’s a lot of places that will not be able to work on them at all just because they don’t know jack diddly about Sprinter‘s or Mercedes for that matter.
      I live on the philosophy it’s just Nuts And Bolts so it doesn’t really matter what it is that I’m working on I’ll figure it out and there’s a lot of people like me out there but with Mercedes it does take a little bit of a different finesse than domestic vehicles here in the United States.
      Then on another hand I wanna tell you it’ll be just fine. People love helping people here so there’s always that.
      I don’t know how much you know about the United States but I find in my travels the smaller towns and the more desolate places the more helpful people are the larger the city the less people care about other people…..
      We look forward to having you here God bless and safe travels

    @iraethan Рік тому +1

    Thanks for the video Clay! I followed your instructions and was able to install a new mechanism, but I was worried about the plastic plate that the mechanism slides on, as mine is in ROUGH shape. I couldn't find any information on where to purchase a replacement, so I cleaned it up as best I could. After a month or so, the sliding chain came off the elevated part of the plastic plate and got pinched by the slide and now I'm back to square one... but I'd really like to replace that plastic plate! Do you have any idea what that part is actually called and where I might be able to buy one?

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  Рік тому

      I’m sorry I don’t although if I had to do it over today I would probably reinforce and rebuild some of that plastic with some metal stripping but unfortunately I don’t have one in front of me to be able to make a video about how to do that. If you do find something remember to share a link in your comment thread, so other people can find one.
