I've never been big into paper art, but between you and Royce, I'll be doing lots of projects just to make myself happy ❤ thank you for all of the great knowledge!
Dear Catherine, Thank you very much that you share your experience with us! You touch my Explorer soul. I often lose myself in experiments. But you go the extra mile! I’m glad that I found you. Best regards from Hamburg, Germany
Catherine......I just discovered you by poking around You Tube and I am mesmerized by your tutorials. I feel like I have found a new friend. Thank you for sharing your amazing knowledge and experience.
You tutorials are always a revelation. I have learnt so much from you and I have learnt to try things and see what happens. Thank you very much for giving me the confidence to try and the tools to imagine.
I’m home not feeling great and binge watching your demos! It’s amazing what you come up with! Re matte medium….it does contain fibers which make it less transparent than gloss medium. Maybe not that crucial for collage art, but for painters it’s not good to use for layers because the work will just get cloudier with each layer. On the other hand, gloss medium really enhances the colors and makes them pop, so that can be used all along to keep it vibrant. At the end if a less glossy finish is desired, a final coat of matte or satin can be applied. Also, per Golden, gloss medium is recommended for sealing wood panels before applying gesso…to preclude support induced discoloration.
Thanks so much for thoughtful reply, and am aware that gloss medium is clearer. Just not my preference. Interestingly someone shared this video from Golden todayfb.watch/lJyHJw1plT/ that clearly shows what you shared, although when dry matte and gloss are very hard to tell apart. Very one needs to experiment and decide what works best for them, and after years of using both products as glue, I usually choose matte. AND, I totally understand why many will choose gloss instead.
I have pressed so many leaves and flowers in books. This will be a great use fir tgem in making greeting cards. I'm intrigued with the idea if embedding (distress sprayed) cheescloth too.
I use my Gelli plate to apply the matt medium on my paper and it works well.. Also, because l am a starter with collage , I use pébéo studio gel matt as an alternative to liquitex matt medium which is a lot cheaper product. Great product too! And you don' t feel too bad if you make errors.
Thanks for this! I have a suggestion to try to eliminate the glossy side (when I try this it’s what I’m going to do). When working with resin, if your silicone mold is matte, the cast will be matte. If the mold is glossy, the cast will be glossy. I’m wondering if it is the same here. I have silicone mats I’m going to try this on. I’m pretty sure I have glossy and matte ones. I’ll let you know what I conclude!
Love your fabulous ideas. One question that you may have already addressed and I may have missed, what is the ratio of medium vs water. I’m guessing 1:1 but want to make sure. Thank you! 🧡🙏
@@catrains.artist Thank you for your feedback. Much appreciated. I just watched one of your other videos that you recommend a 3/4 glue ratio to 1/4 water. I will use tat. By the way, your videos make me happy and excited about putting your ideas into practice. Really cool 😎
I actually listened to the video again myself, and realized that I didn't share that detail. I experimented until I got a consistency I liked which was about 50/50 medium to water.
I just saw a person use her brush wiped paper towels as a background for her paintings! She saved all her paper towels that she wiped her brushes on, glued them down to her substrate then when they're dry she painted watercolour on them! Great idea but NOT archival.
Mod Podge is terrible stuff. It yellows really quickly, is very tacky and smells horrible. It's cheap and cheap for a reason. I started out using it because the UA-cam artist I was influenced by used it and I just assumed it was good. I love Liquitex. It's archival and so kind and nice to use and gives beautiful results. Essential if you sell your work. Great demo. Thanks. Tracey
I don't think I watered down my matte medium. I do water down the white glue with this technique, but the medium is already thin enough. Or maybe I haven't watched my video in a while and I'm mistaken!

I love that making papers with me makes you happy. Curious who Royce is? I assume that she offers paper making demos as well?
Just discovered you! I’m very excited!
Awww thank you! Glad that we discovered each other!!!

I’m glad that I found you.

Lovely to connect with a like minded art explorer! Glad that you found me too! Cat

What a loving thing to say, thank you new friend! So glad that you've enjoyed my videos so far.
Me, too!! Loved the demo and Catherine!
I love your curiosity and willingness to share. 😊
Thanks so much. I appreciate you watching what I'm putting out in the world!

I deeply appreciate your thoughtful feedback, thank you so much for your support!
I meld napkin layers over gauze. It gives amazing texture.
Oh that sound amazing!
Excellent work and presentation
So glad you enjoyed the demo!

I've just used the plastic dividers I bought for my folder. They work well.
That is definitely my fave way of creating these as well!
FANTASTIC! I especially like the shiny inclusions.
Oh me too. Actually I love anything embedded in these papers!
I have pressed so many leaves and flowers in books. This will be a great use fir tgem in making greeting cards. I'm intrigued with the idea if embedding (distress sprayed) cheescloth too.
@@avanellehansen4525 That is an very intriguing idea! Would love to see what you create with it.
I’ve been looking for interesting ways to incorporate leaves into collage. Thanks!
Could you share the brand of tissue paper/ the thickness especially? I tried a few different tissue papers and they didn’t hold up.

That's a fabulous way to apply matte medium to collage papers. Not a beginner technique at all!
What a delight!!!😊
So glad you liked it!

PLEASE let me know what you discover with this. I'm very curious if your theory is correct!
can you use gold foil with this method?
Thank you for sharing your techniques. It’s amazing.
Glad you like them! Thank you for watching!
Great demo, great personality, love to watch you although I just found you and I’m a fan already! Thanks
What a loving thing to say, I'm truly touched. I'm honored that you choose to watch my videos!
Thank you for your demo
Thank you for watching!
so cool 👍
So glad that this technique resonates with you.
Hi Catherine - Very interesting, Thank you! Is it Wet Strength tissue paper that you use?
I actually use cheap gift grade tissue for most things. Rarely use wet strength.
Gorgeous cat - is it just normal tissue or the wet strength tissue?
I'm using inexpensive gift grade tissue, the kind you buy from the drug store. Thanks for watching.
Rose petals, dried flowers, balsam and hemlock needles (they’re flat)
Great suggestions! 💖
what kind of pape are you using - regular "gift wrap" tissue paper?
I almost always use cheap gift wrap quality tissue paper.
You can use parchment paper or the bag in a cereal box or wax paper.
That's a brilliant idea! Thank you!
Love your fabulous ideas. One question that you may have already addressed and I may have missed, what is the ratio of medium vs water. I’m guessing 1:1 but want to make sure. Thank you! 🧡🙏
If you use medium rather than glue for this,, no water needed!
@@catrains.artist Thank you for your feedback. Much appreciated. I just watched one of your other videos that you recommend a 3/4 glue ratio to 1/4 water. I will use tat. By the way, your videos make me happy and excited about putting your ideas into practice. Really cool 😎
Mod Podge is basically watered down glue.
Never heard of Mod Podge described that way. Both glue and Mod Podge will yellow over time.
I learned a new term, collage fodder.
Yeah! Now you will hear it everywhere!
do you have links to the other artists' videos? I searched Susan Nash but couldn't find her
No links in this one, however you can do a search for her in UA-cam. I believe she is there.
hi, is the ratio of medium and water like the white glue, 3/4 to 1/4?
That's about right. Although now I prefer to use gloss medium with no water. Easier and archival too!
What is the water to medium ratio that Golden advised?
I actually listened to the video again myself, and realized that I didn't share that detail. I experimented until I got a consistency I liked which was about 50/50 medium to water.
Encasing dryer lint between 2 sheets of tissue with glue/matte medium? Has anyone tried this?
Sounds very intriguing. I think you need to try this and let us know how it worked!
I also prefer matte medium.
Glad to know you love this product too. So many great glue products to choose from, but matte has been my go-to for the past several years.
Some artists uses a cornstarch recipe.
I have heard of that, and it sounds super messy, more than it already is!
What was your ratio of water to matte medium?
So sorry for my delayed response. About 50/50 water to medium.
I just saw a person use her brush wiped paper towels as a background for her paintings! She saved all her paper towels that she wiped her brushes on, glued them down to her substrate then when they're dry she painted watercolour on them! Great idea but NOT archival.
Very creative technique, and you are right that it wouldn't be archival unless she had very expensive paper towels!
Mod Podge is terrible stuff. It yellows really quickly, is very tacky and smells horrible. It's cheap and cheap for a reason. I 100% agree, with every word!
Encase a fern
Excellent idea!
Instead of watering down your matte medium couldn't you just use fluid matte medium, which I think is just watered down matte medium?
I don't think I watered down my matte medium. I do water down the white glue with this technique, but the medium is already thin enough. Or maybe I haven't watched my video in a while and I'm mistaken!
