In Austria we have stores for that. Low income families get a card and one of the perks is that they can shop there they get stuff that's past the sell by date for cheap. They get the stuff from supermarkets that can't sell it anymore.
Looks like other people have noticed this too. The video is slightly slowed down and the voices are slightly deeper, especially the music and the presenter's voice.
We have stores here in Australia called NQR not quite right or not quite retail. They are close to or just past use by dates or discontinued items and they are actual stores. Theres nothing wrong with this concept but I think going to a supermarket is better than online
I'm surprised people purposely buy best before food over fresher food from the supermarket but hey it seems to work and it's a good idea. I will say I don't think the website looks very good and professional
It’s worrying that they had a turnover of £3.5m and only made a net profit of £130K which is only a 3.7% NPM and this is considering the owners are drawing virtually no salary. For an online business, I wouldn’t expect there to be many large overheads. Ok they said they had invested in a lot of IP but the costs associated to those would surely be capitalised rather than expensed, meaning no impact to P&L. Something doesn’t seem right here. As the adage goes, “revenue is vanity, profit is sanity, cash is king!”
It would have been no skin off the noses of those dragons to facilitate the success of two lads trying to flog edible food to low income earners. I suppose reducing waste and supporting those less well off is not worth the effort, or am I missing something?
The elephant in the room is that there's not much money in groceries unless you have enough of the market which generally takes decades unless you're already a large company like Amazon. To put things into perspective, Walmart operates at around a 1% profit margin.
in my country this food is donated to charities to distribute amongst the needy and struggling.... i don't like the idea that these people are doing this for profit. you could probably get paid by the govt to distribute the food as a not for profit organisation.
Not in the UK. Supermarkets aren't allowed to give food that's past their used by dates to charities and any that's past the best before dates go in the reduced section isle
Best be for just means that after that date the food or drink won't be as good as be for that date. Where you need to keep a really good eye on date is the use by date normally things like milk, meat have use by date as it can make you unwell to the point of death if its really past use by date.
...I have eaten out of date food as long as it didn't smell or taste funny, but I don't think I'd buy it. ...isn't that what they do at dollar stores? Buy out of date stuff from the grocers and sell it to customers?

We have two stores like that here in Cape Town foodzone and looters selling food for so cheap and it’s still very tasty. I’ve saved a lot of money
Looking at their website now - it’s immense. Clearly they’ve been successful with this. I just wonder if they ship to Canada!
In Austria we have stores for that. Low income families get a card and one of the perks is that they can shop there they get stuff that's past the sell by date for cheap. They get the stuff from supermarkets that can't sell it anymore.

Peters in a good mood today 😅
"you honor" LOL classic
Isn’t approved foods thriving now?
They're still in business but the prices are not that cheap for out of date food.
Alan Cogan lies they killed the guy on the left a year ago
Yes. I’ve ordered from them before. Tins and dry packets are fine past their dates. It’s a great idea.
Just been and looked at the site, not that cheap and a very limited choice.
Alan Cogan the boring one man on the left
*Dragons Speechless as Daredevils Flog Out-of-Date Food*
This was not the high-octane thriller I expected from reading the title
This business must be doing very well these days
Looks like other people have noticed this too. The video is slightly slowed down and the voices are slightly deeper, especially the music and the presenter's voice.
Need to get it over 10 minutes
But they have 7-9 minute videos on the channel previously...
Peter is such a cool cat
With many supermarkets removing best before dates these guys were ahead of their time
I love this, so much good food goes to waste. It's a no brainer and tbh I'm surprised this isn't a household name everyone is aware of.
Too good to go is a well known app
I was makinf dinner and listening to this pitch. When the first guy started, I thought Duncan was pitching to the den.
Peter jones was hilarious and that was a great impromptu
A company turning over £3 million and not one of them asked what the can do to reduce costs?
I suppose reducing waste and supporting those less well off is not worth the effort, or am I missing something?
agreed
The elephant in the room is that there's not much money in groceries unless you have enough of the market which generally takes decades unless you're already a large company like Amazon. To put things into perspective, Walmart operates at around a 1% profit margin.
Duncan looks fed up as soon as the video starts hahaha
Am I going insane or has the audio been pitched down?
Nah I think it’s been slowed slightly idk why
Soon as u hear Huddersfield. Close and hide ones wallet 😂😂
in my country this food is donated to charities to distribute amongst the needy and struggling.... i don't like the idea that these people are doing this for profit. you could probably get paid by the govt to distribute the food as a not for profit organisation.
Not in the UK. Supermarkets aren't allowed to give food that's past their used by dates to charities and any that's past the best before dates go in the reduced section isle
So how do they know when the food is REALLY out of date and can't be sold? Because I am very confused about use by dates, best before etc.
Best be for just means that after that date the food or drink won't be as good as be for that date. Where you need to keep a really good eye on date is the use by date normally things like milk, meat have use by date as it can make you unwell to the point of death if its really past use by date.
@@paulh2117 ah okay thank you!
Only rich people could think this is a bad idea in a country where Nurses are using food banks....
Seeing far too many intrusive adverts in each episode recently absolutely fed up with them breaks continuity of episode
BBC gotta make licence money up somehow however will they fund gardeners world 🤣
When the video starts drag play bar to the end then click replay. No adverts.......
...I have eaten out of date food as long as it didn't smell or taste funny, but I don't think I'd buy it.
...isn't that what they do at dollar stores? Buy out of date stuff from the grocers and sell it to customers?
Anyone else noticed the speed on this one is slightly slower (and the music and Evan's voice are slightly deeper)?
Longer video = more ads
They say, as there are still 8 or 9 minute videos on the channel.
BenjaminGoose big 🧠 move by whoever runs this channel. Not - they’ve lost me as a viewer
For someone who has bad hearing in the high frequencies and needs to decrease bass in the EQ I find this move to be particularly annoying
This is a awesome idea
When that Lift opens and Piers and Kelly are sitting there, it really means that there are only three Investors ready to hear the Pitch. Nonsense.
What a shame. It's a fantastic business idea. I remember that I went to a little shop that sold out of date food n drink and I loved how cheap it was. I bought loads of drinks a chocolate. I wonder if it was one of theirs?
There was a store in Arizona 20+ years ago that sold expired food & they were sued out of existence by lawsuit-loving Americans 🙄
Gotta love capitalism.
AH AH AH AH AH AH AH AH......................LEGEND HAS IT HES STILL COUGHING AH
