Yes because his voice has weight as we come to him for knowledge and it's a perfect Segway for enlightenment. A good way to deliver public announcements. Like imagine all the tech reviewers such as Unbox Therapy mkbhd Mr. Mobile Michael fisher Jaime Rivera etc collaborating to deliver these really pressing issues to the youtube subs. I feel like there would be a big wave of response resulting in better healthier habits.
He has power with his channel, and while I appreciate his willingness to use it for the better, he really needs to expand on more than a single source. It's no use educating the public if the information is incomplete or inaccurate. One study simply isn't feasible.
I find anything higher than 1/3-1/2 on the slider is just waaaaaaaay too bright. Usually I keep mine at about 1/4 on the slider, it makes for a comfortable light level for me but not so much that it lights the room.
Dem Diamond What you experience as eye floaters could be two things. One particulates that have made there way onto the surface of your eyes lens, or quit literally energy. Studies have been done and have literally shown that some people can see energy in the forms of what many believe to be “eye floaters”. They have looked directly at the eye ball to determine if any particulates were present on the subject. And none were found. So either all their subjects hallucinated, or they were lying. That’s one reason you may not see them except when looking into the sky.

Awesome 54, great now as you know these fact you must know that when light is reflected from an object usually some of it’s energy is absorbed by the object , and that’s why a blue shirt wouldn’t be as much harmful as the display of your phone
I'm using this for 5 days now used to make fun of my uncle wen his screen was orange now feel like a hypocrite but I gotta see more of Lew so gotta lose something😂
The scary thing is, smartphones and computer screens etc are all relatively new, so we don’t know what the effects of using them long term will be. Your grandparents have not been using smartphones since they were 12, but kids generally 12 or even younger will today pick up a phone and use it for several hours a day probably for the rest of their life. Who knows what kind of vision problems they will have when they are in their 60s?
From what I've been told they have a UV coating on both sides and it reflects away blue light (High energy Light) from our eyes. The one I bought is just around 40 dollars.
It's true. My vision has gotten worse. I just had a eye test. I used to have 20/20 vision. And i tought i still had good vision. The lady asked me if i had worn glasses before. I answered no. And she said "well you need glasses". And my tv is 32" its 5 feet away from my bed. And the Words are blurry. And i do use the color tone at night. Galaxy S9+. And I'm serious, this is scary.

I'm an optometrist and this is accurate. Nice summary. Another option is to put a blue filter in your regular ophthalmic glasses at the purchase. It goes for around 40-50$ here in Canada. It is important to note that it gives a little yellow tint in the lenses though.
On the Samsung Galaxy s8(probhably on other Samsung devices to) you have a blue light filter. If you go in the settings you can turn on a mode. It sets a time the bluelight filter is aplied. You can set it from sunset to sunset or manually set a time for the filter. I think its a great solusion for the problem. Well.. a reducion of the risk.
I use Night Owl. It doesn't make the screen yellow, but just as dim as you want though. You can adjust it anytime in the notification list. For 2 years I use it every evening and I seriously think it improves my vision. I see much better also when e.g. driving in the dark. I just put it so dim, that if you look away from your phone, your eyes won't have to re-adjust to the dark. It even feels healthier to me than being in an overal bright room with lights on in the evening.
Also what's funny is that we got companies that preinstall those filters as a feature but will make whole UI white af, cause light is cool right? I mean iOS got whiter Google kills as much dark colors as they can and Windows 10 night mode doesn't work when you open something on fullscreen like video or a game. It's just annoying how companies make everything lighter and then put those filters (which still are not very effective) just because other's have it being some study showed that's blue light is worse for us.
This is why I like Unbox Therapy..Lou, Willie and Jack....they touch on all subjects relating to the tech world and what not. I mean not a lots of tech vloggers would make a video about this subject. Thanks for the video and making people aware of this kind of stuff
I turned the blue light filter on just to try it out for a day and at first I hated the way it looked but by the end of my test I got fairly used to it and decided to leave it on. Looks like it was a good choice.
I’ve always had my phone on night mode since it was a feature on the phone, people always be asking why my phone screen be so yellow, I don’t even notice anymore cuz I’m used to it Yet, my eyes are still really bad...
Olegian Same. Even gamming on the phone for a long period of time with this filter is confortable. But i wonder why do the companies doesnt implement it on the past devices.
I'm pretty sure that the classic Kindle uses something similar: less fatiguing when it comes to long term reading. I still prefer to read physical books anyway.
+Scotty Cena Kindle uses eink technology to display text and not LCD blue lights. The backlights are LCD but you can turn them all the way down and you can still see the screen if the room you're in is well lit. It's basically like reading off of a book.
Awesome stuff, Lou. Did you know though that apart from the potential to cause blindness, tech use and social media have ill effects on your mental health too? Device usage can be addictive on a neurochemical level, similar to drugs and/or alcohol. The sleep disturbances that come with device overuse can also lead to lower self-esteem and higher levels of stress, anxiety, and even depression!
Turned off blue light completely on every screen i use about two months ago, set brightness to as minimal as possible. Definitely better for the eyes. Also, if you read long texts or pdf just use an E-reader. It's the closest thing to paper. And just take a break every 1 hour and focus on distant objects
Krevald did you listen to him? It's not going to change from one day to another. We will only be able to understand long term consequences in another 10 or 20 years. Scary shit
Yeah my eye is blurry when playing games 2-3 hrs straight on my phone, when i look a object around me i can't even see a thing, and after 1-2 hrs my vision is back to normal
This Blue light filter thing really cured my sleep deprivation. 2 am Last night i used my phone for an hour with blue light filter in 1800k intesiity. Screen was orange but i got used to it quick. At 3 am i turned off my phone and slept. Then i woke up 11 am at the morning. I was so happy. Usually if i used my phone at 2 am to 3 am i will sleep at 4 and shut my eyes for 2 hrs. So hard to sleep Now with this orange screen i feel more comfortable and it is indeeed sleepy. Never knew the blue light is the curse all along and I needed the orange light in my life. As i watch this video with my orange screen, i now feel lot safer
That’s crazy. I had this problem a month ago and I had ridiculous migraines everyday and couldn’t figure it out. Then I turned my night shift mode on and wore shades outside and now I’m fine. And I’ve also had dark mode on for UA-cam for almost a year now
There's also two reasons that's murdering my eyes Being SO close to a screen, and depending too much on my glasses It's too late for me to not depend on my glasses now because they're really high, but if yours aren't as much yet, only use them when you really need to, not all the time

AiErudito __-_-__ same.. I turned on blue light filter.
3:06 “That’s the scary kind of dead, they’re not coming back”
Gave me a good laugh
On the Samsung Galaxy s8(probhably on other Samsung devices to) you have a blue light filter. If you go in the settings you can turn on a mode. It sets a time the bluelight filter is aplied. You can set it from sunset to sunset or manually set a time for the filter.
I think its a great solusion for the problem. Well.. a reducion of the risk.
I right away turned on night shift permanently after watching this. 😂
I always used comfort view. The brightness of the blue hurts my eyes after an hour of watching
"... especially in dark rooms.."
Me:* *Turns light in my room on* * I'm safe
Also what's funny is that we got companies that preinstall those filters as a feature but will make whole UI white af, cause light is cool right? I mean iOS got whiter Google kills as much dark colors as they can and Windows 10 night mode doesn't work when you open something on fullscreen like video or a game. It's just annoying how companies make everything lighter and then put those filters (which still are not very effective) just because other's have it being some study showed that's blue light is worse for us.
I wear sunglasses at night
J dubbs Professional Douche
that's what i do.sometimes.
Yea 🤣🤣 i used to do that before i came to know about the night shift feature.
Same
So I can, so I can
Keep track of the visions in my eyes
My eyes especially hurt for the entirety of this video and the mild agony continues, what have you done to me Lew?
what a thumbnail you should try for Horror movies, without audition they will select you..hahahaha.
Hahahah
Turn on darkmode on UA-cam folks!!
AlexAnder how?
Visuals TM go to the UA-cam settings
I don’t think it works for everyone :/
AlexAnder just realized it doesn't work for Android quite yet :/ oh well.
Visuals TM well! Time to Get an iPhone
(Joking) use whaterver Phone you want;)
ITS already dark for some android phones
I got Samsung so I have blue light filter on do I turn it off of keep it on??
i made it to turn on at 11pm
Definitely turn on the blue light filter especially at night. Highly recommended that you should always turn it on.
at what intensity should we be setting this option on?
I just turned mine on. Don't plan on turning it off for anything anytime soon.
That is useless, everyone should use bluefilter glasses
Me : gets Ready For a Good Gaming Session
me : Opens youtube
UnboxTherapy : This Video
Me : Time to go to the Gym
AYX AYo 🤣🤣🤣💪💪🤘
Thanks for this Lew! I've set this on and told most of my office mates, they're using this right now. Very helpful.
This is why I like Unbox Therapy..Lou, Willie and Jack....they touch on all subjects relating to the tech world and what not. I mean not a lots of tech vloggers would make a video about this subject. Thanks for the video and making people aware of this kind of stuff
"That's the scary kind of dead. They're not coming back !"
Cool Down BRUTH
My eyes suddenly started to get hurt while watching this. Lu, what did you do to me?!
Arteon Tarchin Placebo effect you chillin or just eye strain from looking at your phone for awhile
If you didn’t feel it before, you are just experiencing placebo effect
Me tooooo
Disgusting. A furry.
It's psychological, now you're expecting the light to hurt you
I turned the blue light filter on just to try it out for a day and at first I hated the way it looked but by the end of my test I got fairly used to it and decided to leave it on. Looks like it was a good choice.
I really like it when Lew makes videos like this. It makes me feel like he does actually care about people's eyes and people in general.
I’ve always had my phone on night mode since it was a feature on the phone, people always be asking why my phone screen be so yellow, I don’t even notice anymore cuz I’m used to it
Yet, my eyes are still really bad...
Scotty Cena Kindle uses a totally different technology. It doesnt even use colors or something with brightness. Kindles are like old portable tetris.
I don't have it 😯
+Scotty Cena
Kindle uses eink technology to display text and not LCD blue lights. The backlights are LCD but you can turn them all the way down and you can still see the screen if the room you're in is well lit. It's basically like reading off of a book.
Playstation should change their theme color
numijokull skulason You could download a theme or change it to whatever screenshot you have

Janson Mathew thank you grammar police :)
Vlooch Splooch i know but When you turn on the ps4 it is always Blue
Janson Mathew ?
Awesome stuff, Lou. Did you know though that apart from the potential to cause blindness, tech use and social media have ill effects on your mental health too? Device usage can be addictive on a neurochemical level, similar to drugs and/or alcohol. The sleep disturbances that come with device overuse can also lead to lower self-esteem and higher levels of stress, anxiety, and even depression!
Psych of Pat
Funny, because the internet is the only thing i have to live for.
*_*turns on blue light filter*_*
Lmao
Ayeee the university of Toledo is literally my neighbor 😂😂😂
ayyyy lmao
nice
Turned off blue light completely on every screen i use about two months ago, set brightness to as minimal as possible. Definitely better for the eyes. Also, if you read long texts or pdf just use an E-reader. It's the closest thing to paper.
And just take a break every 1 hour and focus on distant objects
I respect this channel. Imma subscribe. Honestly, recieving this from a tech channel is just cool.
Found this out a couple of years ago.
Did I listen?
No.
U think I care?? I've been fine like for 10 years nothing has changed..
Krevald did you listen to him? It's not going to change from one day to another. We will only be able to understand long term consequences in another 10 or 20 years. Scary shit
Manuel Auer Did u even read my comment?
Who else turned on the blue light filter while watching this video? I know I did.
Parth Gajjar meee hahaha
Yeah my eye is blurry when playing games 2-3 hrs straight on my phone, when i look a object around me i can't even see a thing, and after 1-2 hrs my vision is back to normal
Lone Wolfz yea strain is the most significant current health issue from screens, it’s temporary but it can be pretty bad still.
So hard to sleep
Now with this orange screen i feel more comfortable and it is indeeed sleepy.
And I’ve also had dark mode on for UA-cam for almost a year now
Thank you, Lew.
This was a true *Eye Opener*
R.J.S u didn't just say that
I just quited using my phone and started playing outside
GAMING WITH GHOST Next step is to pay attention in English class... 😅
Not all of us are 9 years old you know
But you're here commenting on UA-cam. Liar!!!
Charles Mendoza he said phone... Not computer or tablet.
Ilikeboost You mean he is using his computer while he is playing outside
There's also two reasons that's murdering my eyes
Being SO close to a screen, and depending too much on my glasses
It's too late for me to not depend on my glasses now because they're really high, but if yours aren't as much yet, only use them when you really need to, not all the time
