Elvis Freshly I used to use blue fox #5’s in blue for clearer water & pink in slightly stained water. I’m not quite sure when they fell out of favor but back in the 80’s & 90’s they were all the rage. Idk, at some point I tried out the flying-c’s & never looked back. I do still keep a few blue fox’s & from time to time when it’s slow I’ll throw one on but to no avail. I guess that since I’ve had a lot of success with the flying-c I haven’t really focused on a using a different lure. But I imagine the concept is still the same. Get a heavy enough bait down to them with flash & irritating vibrations & theoretically they snap at it.
Elvis Freshly Perhaps the blue fox’s are more effective in the clearer waters. The flows are much stronger the farther up we go. I’ve never been particularly fond of using weighted spinners in heavy current. It just feels like you get very little effective fishing distance out of each cast. I will generally move to weightless in-line spinners & kwikfish, bouncing roe or flossing. But hey, maybe I’ll give the ol’ blue fox #5 a shot up there in the feather if I make up there this year.
Where are you fishing? I live in fresno and I’m trying to go salmon fishing next Sunday in the sac river but don’t know where to go to fish from shore. It will be my first time salmon fishing.

It was actually in the mouth but when the fish flopped over in the net it got caught in the eye. But I can see how it appears. Believe me I thought the same thing too.
It can vary year to year depending on estimated return counts. But generally, inland salmon is 2 per person, per day. The inland salmon season usually starts in late July & runs through December. However, that can be delayed depending on ocean run returns. There is also a possession limit of 4. Meaning you can have 2 in the freezer & catch 2 more on another day. The rules can be different depending on the area. So this info is for the Sac river system. Type of hook & weight size varies depending on what section of the river you are on. In terms of size. I am unaware of there being requirement inland in the Sac river system. The Trinity river system has an entirely different set of rules for limits, size & take. But a great place to start for rules & regs is your local tackle shop. Generally speaking they are in the know about any particular years rules & regs. Hope this helps!
jovan wilkins It says sunrise but on this day that was 6:51am. The 15 cars there before my arrival at 6:53 says otherwise. If I had to guess I’d say 30 minutes prior.
Charles Wayne I’m assuming your asking if you need a leader to the spinner. My answer is simple. I like to keep my setup as simplistic as possible. I only use a snap swivel to help reduce line twist.
I’ve seen salmon caught on the river using just about every set up imaginable. However, it’s all about wether your gear is suited for the application. 7’3” Med Heavy rod doesn’t tell me much about its build. I have a 7’6” Med Heavy ugly stick suited best for jigging rockfish & one best suited for striper/halibut/sturgeon. Castability is a factor. You want it stiff enough to handle casting a 1oz flying C & the resistance of the blade & current yet nimble/limber enough to absorb a salmons quick changes of direction & fast runs. If your rod is for crankbaiting bass, it will work. It’s not ideal, but it will work. In terms of the line, I prefer a 30 or 40lb braid with a 10ft 17lb fluorocarbon leader. It’s great for castability & cuts nicely through the current while retaining excellent sensitivity with minimal bowing of the line (slack) & has the added benefit being nearly invisible. I hope this helps! Good luck out there. Tight lines

20lbs line will work as long as you set the drag right. Some people want to pull in the fish ASAP and this is the reason they lose the fish. Salmon are not like strippers that you simply pull to the shore. You need to let them tire out and if you are bank fishing then just inform the fishermen around you so they'll let you fight the fish properly.
