Classic Yoruba Gem. Original Samba! I miss the old Naija days when people just had fun without fearing armed robbers or kidnappers.

I am always overwhelmed with nostalgia when I listen to Sunny Ade and Ebenezer Obey's classics. I was about 9 years, an Igbo growing up in the east then yet I enjoyed every bit of their works.

hey baba, we´re in the same boat - i saw him on german television for the first time in 81 or 82 and it was a bit of a culture shock for me - i didn´t know that something like this was possible, haha - i´ve seen him live two times after that, one time was even in the little town where i live, incredible! the house he played in had a good connection to a place for international live events in the next big city, so there was a time when they brought many wicked african bands here... :-)
i just remember that i even saw the mahotella queens there from south africa, do you know them? with the great mahlatini, the lion of soweto! what an honour to have him right up there on stage and, imagine: we were merely about 100 people dancing like crazy, and the mahotella queens were talking especially to the women in the audience - an unforgettable evening, haha, sweet memories... :-)
i have only one record of king sunny adé, but several on cassette - now i can find him on youtube which i enjoy very much!
      love and greetings from germany

As an English-speaking American one of the things I enjoy about the music of other cultures is NOT speaking their language. When I hear a song in my own language I concentrate on the lyrics. Insteade the singer's voice becomes a pure musical instrument, not "saying" anything any more than the guitar is "saying" anything. I was once listening to some obscure podcast of Portuguese folk songs when a friend came in and asked what I was listening to. Portuguese folk songs I said. He asked "Do you understand Portuguese?" "No, that's why I like it!" Peace, my brother!

My parents used to play this album when I was growing up in London, UK.
King Sunny Ade is one of Nigerian's greatest music legends. I am so blessed and fortunate to have been born in the UK and went to Nigeria lived out there and came back to the UK where I was born. King Sunny Ade's real name is Sunday Adeniyi Adegeye. He was born in Osogbo a city in the Western part of Nigeria.
Osogbo became the capital city of Osun State in 1991. Sunny Ade originates from a Nigerian royal family from Ondo State.
