As a Canon Prograf PRO1000 owner, the printer is fantastic, just make sure you use it, you will be wasting lots of money on ink which ends up in the mc-20 maintenance cartridge every time you start a print job. The maintenance cartridge used to cost $15, now it's $18-20 "if you can find them" on Amazon, and when you do find them buy a couple, without the maintenance cartridge you can not run the printer. Inks will cost $700, which last for a long time as long as I stated previously, you need to print, make sure the ink ends up on paper and not in the maintenance cartridge. And keep the printer on standby mode, you set this up in the printer settings on the printer control panel.

Thats super helpful man! Thank you for writing me. I'll be sure to keep it in stand-by mode. Im assuming thats every time it says its agitating the ink etc it's draining off some of it is that correct?

Yes, but if the printer sits more than a week without printing anything, it uses a good amount of ink to agitate the lines and the head. So my suggestion is to print something every four to seven days, more often is favorable.
Remember that Canon, Epson and all the rest make their money on the ink "which is understandable" the printer is there for you to be able to print your work and for them to be able to sell the ink. When you first hook it up, the machine will use up pretty much half of the ink cartridges that came with it, to fill the lines and the print head. The printer costs $400-$600, the other cost is the ink that it comes with. Reason for the $1,1000 retail price of the unit with inks.
Just like camera manufacturers, they make money on the camera bodies, but where they really make their money is on the lenses and other accessories.
      Happy printing.
