5:00 - Oh God Hours I've been searching for where that vacuum hose routes, from the pump to the cruise control module. No diagram I have ever found has it. You're a life saver. I was so glad when you actually went around the car and pointed out where it goes hah

Is there any real advantage of removing the smog pump

Depends on what kind of benefit you're looking for. HP gain is negligible. The real benefits would be less clutter in the engine bay, less weight on the car, and smoother running engine on older/higher mileage engines. My car saw a running improvement by removing it.

I think of all this stuff as government taking retarded steps, that feels a lot more like overstep than anything beneficial. Also, every little restrictive gadget seems comparable to wearing 3 masks for covid, even though we know it won't do anything, though in this case it's not just three masks, it's like wearing deep sea scuba gear to stop the spread. Each part you take off feels like removing a plastic soda Neuse from around a sea turtle, as well as scraping off 10 years of barnacle build up that is literally killing it. These engines were designed to have strong lungs with free flowing veins and airway passages. Smog garb backs up everything, causes disease and shorter life spans

If it runs right again, this is the way not to do it , You disconnected the electronic EGR valve the one still in the manifold, ive disconnected my air pump on one of these already, but indeed it will never run properly again, its a EFI car hilarious to see though, my stock town car with it, runs way better than it all removed. these cars is not equipped at all with a check engine light ive owned 3 , you have to use a light bulb on the computer harness under the hood on the drivers fender , it was a faulty EGR valve thats why it was jumping before, you did disconnect it along with everything else, so that alone would have solved that issue. cool car still.

I'm not sure what you're saying. Why is it an issue to remove it? It runs fine without it. Also, It does have a check engine light. I know because I've seen it when I had a bad TPS switch.

I removed the smog equipment, off my 1986 Town car, the cruise control, climate system along with the engine, never worked correctly again, it began to have idle control issues, that also started after the smog deletion, im just saying the pump was there for a reason, I currently have a 1988 lincoln Town car Cartier with it still installed and fully functional, and that cars fully work's and run's like new still, The Computer is hooked up to the smog pump system, it was programmed to work with it in tact, with it removed the car will not run fully correctly, as the computer as simple as it is still can detect a malfunction, yeah the TPS is set to 0.098 v measured off the wires, if you replace it, be sure to not adjust the voltage with the idle set screw, do it with the screws holding on the TPS, Ive removed the engines multiple times on these lincoln's over the years and they are a really simple well built car, Best of luck on yours man:)

if other owners still have these pump's in tact, one trick to make it last way longer is to remove the vacuum hose on the top of the pump and pour oil down the orfice in the pump, Also spraying the front bearing with oil is also a way to make these pump's last much much longer. im still running the original smog pump on my car its has over 260,k and run's perfectly
