There's actually an Asian equivalent of the Conference League called AFC Challenge League. But aside from Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam, other Southeast Asian (ASEAN) clubs aren't really able to leave much of an impact in Asia, which is why ASEAN organised this competition for their specific region. It's supposed to be a springboard for clubs from the likes of Singapore to build themselves and improve enough to be able to challenge in continental competitions.
The craziest fans in Singapore used to be the Hougang Hools, supporting Hougang. But they've dropped off recently. Not as loud as before and also not as many people. Probably because of a lack of silverware for the longest time.
I'm a Scotsman whose wife is from Singapore so I've been there over 10 times now. Been to a couple of Tampines Rovers matches when I've been out there and it's always good craic. Brilliant country to visit.
Brilliant watch Sam. I live in Thailand now and know that wait for the baggage well, the worry sets in when it doesn't come out and most people have theirs 😂. Love seeing your enthusiasm for all things football in Asia too, have a great trip mate!!!
❤This will be a fantastic series. I have heard many good things about football in South East Asia. The contributor on the BBC 5 World Football Phone in really rate the atmospheres in South East Asia. £7 for a beer!! Bloody hell stick to the Buckfast!

Hi Sam it was a pleasure to have u here with us yesterday, and hope to see u back here again soon. Just a suggestion if u want to come for another LCS game this szn, is to go for one of the Asian Champions League games. We made it to the knockouts for the first time and in the RO16 we play muangthong united of Thailand. However if we progress the real deal is the possibility of playing Japanese team Sanfrecce Hiroshima, if they too qualify. Catch u next time :)
Great video mate. I'm from Liverpool but I spent 6 months in Singapore back in 2012 coaching kids football. Ive kept updated with football over there since. You can watch all the league games on UA-cam. Unfortunately the team Id go watch (woodlands Wellington) don't exist anymore. Beautiful country great people, Unfortunately alot of issues with football over there. Be nice if every team had their own stadium to call home for a start. It's a massive part of every clubs identity.
Sam thank you for covering South East Asia football scene. As a Malaysian football fanatics im really appreciate to see Mat Salleh ( Whites ) like you doing this. Cheers from KL mate. YNWA too 👍🏻
Awww man I visited Singapore last year during a break in league play. Hope to see a game there and in the national stadium as well soon. The sailors kit looks cool as well!
There is actually an AFC Challenge League, which is the real equivalent to conference league in Asia, but that features only certain clubs from the lower-ranked federations. Shopee Cup is more of a Super League(or Unify League as it is now called😅) for the Southeast Asia Countries .
@zacharywuxuan8117 I knew that, and it was mentioned in the video too, would definitely look forward to their match against Muangthong. Beside than Muangthong, LCS will also play other Thai sides such as Buriram United and BG Pathum United soon, all those games would be fascinating too.
Funny I watched the highlights of this game the other day and thought this is where Sam did his video sometime back ,and hear you are back on this side of the World . If your a masochist re travelling you should come to Cebu and watch Dynamic Herb Cebu FC when the Philippines Football League starts up again ( regular season starts in February with the final in November ) the standard is not as great but players and fans are as committed to the game and being a United /Hereford/ Celtic fan I bloody love the league .😎
You need to go one step further for Sydney FC v Western Sydney Wanderers, or the Melbourne derby ( Victory v City) & there is now NZ derby in the A League Auckland v Wellington
I had a connection to Singapore going to Australia in 2012 and had some unopened cocodamol still with the pharmacy sticker on it the lot, got pulled in by the police for 6 hours interrogated and had to get a guy from the consulate down, luckily it was late at night in Singapore and they were able to speak to my doctor in Scotland. good video mate, if you ever consider coming to Taiwan for a Asian cup qualifier (don't bother with the league) I will meet you and help you sort tickets and that and make sure you end up in the end with the little section of Taiwan ultras. Taiwan also has an English manager now (Gary White) and they are getting a lot of dual national players so I think they could cause a couple of shocks. As an added bonus if they play in Kaohsiung you will also get to see one the biggest solar powered stadiums going
Mate you should try coming to watch the cambodian premier league or a cambodian national team match and experience the atmosphere! Definitely recommend watching a phnom penh crown match and preah khan reach svay rieng match because those are the biggest clubs in the league

That singaporean pint price... Just wow, the same amount of beer here in Rio is like 0,70£. Our streets aren't clean, but we have a rich football tour covering like 50 teams and more than 20 stadiums in the metropolis radius, fighting from the 5th division of the state championship and the 4th national division to continental competitions like Copa Libertadores, Intercontinental and FIFA Club World Cup =)
I saw you yesterday but i didn’t want to approach u in case it was the wrong person, but indeed it was u all along! Miss the chance to say hi. Hope u enjoyed the match 👍🏽
