it's not a football stadium but Fenway Park in Boston is a bit bizarre. It does occasionally host preseason football matches but it hasn't happened in a while.
Thank you for making this video. For me personally, I think stadiums like this are the prototype concept for future stadiums not only for places that are land scarce like Singapore for a couple of reasons. One is the profitably. Normally, you build a stadium at a loss and will need to make money from gate receipts, event rentals and sponsorships to cover the cost of a stadium. With this stadium, the rentals from the f&b and retail stores in the shopping centres will not only eventually cover the costs of building the stadium but also gradually make it self-sustaining and profitable. Two, local football is not very well supported in Singapore. In other places, you go to a stadium specifically to watch a match or catch an event. Here, you go to the shopping centre for your meal or shopping, realize there is a football match happening in a couple of hours and decide, "Yeah, why not? Let's catch a match. I have time to kill." With that, you have a chance to convert casual shoppers to fans. I won't be surprised some of those people in the paid seats used to watch the match from the "free standing area" you saw. Our Tampines Hub is also centrally located in one of the biggest housing estates in Singapore minutes away from the main train station and bus interchange. It's fairly convenient to get to. The stadium does not turn into a white elephant on non-match and non-event days. There is constant foot traffic in the mall every day of the week. Smaller clubs in smaller cities and towns looking to revamp their stadiums should look to this model. It's a kill two birds with one stone solution for small towns and clubs looking to build a new stadium and shopping hub. As a Singaporean, I hope our Sports Council looks as this model and revamps all the other aging neighborhood stadiums around Singapore into similar hubs like this.
This kind of stadium cum shopping centre only can work in Singapore or maybe say major capital cities and very specific places with high population density.
Gila kosong stadium ..... tak macam Singapore v Selangor/Kedah dlm Malaysia Cup. Time tu Fandi Ahmad, David Lee .... Patut Singapore national team kena cincau je sekarang.😂
The most impressive part of that stadium is the 2 Olympic sized swimming pools on the roof and the gym overlooking the 2 pools on level 7. It also has a 3 story library.
tampines hub is insane. besides the stadium, the farm on the upper floors provide the ingredients for the hawker food stalls below. the food waste from the f&b establishments go back up as compost. Besides being a commercial mall, there are community facilities like cinemas, drama theatres, libraries, police posts, financial aid, and a running track indoors.
This is a community building and as land is a premium in Singapore, land usage is often maximised. It used to be a regular football stadium with a running track around the pitch until a few years ago before it was torn down, and this building was built in its place.
Most stadiums in Singapore, with the exception of the National Stadium (or the Sports Hub), have at most 2 stands. It's probably due to limited land space and that all stadiums in Singapore, actually double up as a sports facility (with running tracks/gyms/etc.) for the community. Also due to limited facilities, 2-3 clubs in the SPL share a stadium - Tanjong Pagar and Albirex share Jurong East Stadium, Tampines and Geylang share Tampines Hub, Sailors and Balestier share Bishan Stadium and Hougang and Young Lions (and tentatively, Brunei DPMM) share Jalan Besar Stadium.
Ha ha - this is hilarious, I was at this game too. In fact, that's me in the green Geylang shirt texting @ 22:07 😂 Thanks for the footage! I'm also a groundhopper and was in Singapore for 3 nights and saw 2 games: Lion City Sailors v Brunei DPMM + this one. Both games the home side surprisingly lost think I brought the bad luck for the home sides... but what an interesting stadium.....
Thank you for visiting the home of Tampines Rovers. Although Singapore has a long way to go to compete professionally, I'll still come down on matchday to support my team. I hope Singaporean football fans can be more supportive of their own league, as it does have the potential to grow.
Have the potential to grow to lose to malaysia 7-0 lol just go support any europe clubs lol like real barca milan man city united liverpool like all those 95%percent singaporean did you go to any bar you can see there have more people there than this stadium itself lol SG is long gone since 2010 with the likes of alam shah indra putra ridwan jumaat jantan all those are long gone idc about singapore soccer club also lol
Thanks for coming to Singapore to watch a league match. Singapore football scene is kind of not so interesting compared to the 90s where we played in the Malaysian league. The old national stadium is always packed with 50000 fans. But after Singapore left the Malaysian league and start our own, the fans just stop coming. It’s sad but that’s the history of Singapore football in short. One of the reason it’s because in Singapore it’s difficult to earn a living playing as a professional player.

As a singaporean, I watched the world cup 2022 final there as Tampines have the best vibes for football. Like the local always debates, East side, the best side❤🎉😊
Thanks for coming down to our beloved stadium - Our Tampines Hub, Home of The Stags 🦌 We’d love to have you for a Rovers game next time, promise you it’ll be a blast 😉 -Come On You Rovers! 💛

Have to say this is one of the best videos you have ever made! Kudos to you mate to fly all the way across the globe to educate us about football abroad! I immigrated to the US years ago so I’m mired in the MLS leagues which have a long way to go to be competitive I feel! A+ Video!!
Saw Fort Lauderdale Strikers v L A Flame years ago in Ft. Lauderdale, played on a schools football pitch. Score 0-0, penalty shootout decided the result, think LA Flame won.
Thanks for showcasing Singapore 🇸🇬 to the world. Basically our newer stadiums are an efficient use of the space. All in one family and community fun! Glad you enjoyed your time here!
14:20 so this is almost unbelievable 😲. I'm watching a video in the Czech Republic from my favorite UA-camr from Scotland about him going to a football game in Singapore. The last thing I would expect is that you open your mobile phone and the FK Trutnov stadium is on it in the futbology application. Which is the city in which I was born and still live today. The world is really small after all.
Wonderful that more people, especially content creators, are visiting Singapore. Personally a citizen of Singapore, I find it very encouraging that Singapore is getting some more recognition :)) looking forward to more of your visits :)
I live near oTH and honestly, I have so much respect for SG govt for making sports as part of life and they take so much effort to maintain these places all over SG. Hatss off!!
Thank you and I'm honoured that you came to my neighbourhood... I just lived next to the Tampines Hub. Surprised that you named it weirdest (but the name surely is. Tampines is named after a native tree commonly found in the past, the Tempinis Tree. Sounds weird rite. hah). In my humble opinion its just a small stadium compared to what you have in Europe. But it is a town hub where sports, community, food and all mixed together. Singapore is land limited so we stacked all the things together (indoor hall, swimming pools, shops, supermarkets, hawker stalls, theater, government service offices, library, all in 5 or more levels to save space)
Im Singaporean and thank you for coming here. You can watch football from that library too and its air-conditioned, the stands was quite it almost the same as watching inside library. Great infrastucture but Singapore football seems dead now because of poor management. It is good you have a visit across causeway to watch JDT in Johor, Malaysia.
A strange stadium, only having 1 stand, but, it gets more use than most stadia in UK. It might just be a way to go for smaller clubs, and to keep football in the centre of communities and not in some far flung area of the town (referring to your Kassam Stadium visit)
@@RomaInvicta202 I suppose that's something about there degree of local support? In Singapore this has always been a sore spot for the football community. The support for local clubs has been on downward trends (yet people expect the national team to do well), combine with weird government intervention , for example they move the teams to somewhere away from their home base, imagine the feeling of having away games week in week out. I have to salute to those attendees who travelled with the team....
Attendances in the ground are no more than 1500 unless it is the east coast derby so one stand all you need to shelter you from the sun or thunderstorms when it rains. The completely modern stadium is in the effect the centre of the local community and integrated within a shopping mall restaurants and play areas for children and facilities for the elderly, gardens theatre, cinema and local social services. Its fantastic there is no challenges here all teams fans mix together and its respectful its great. The league has four foreign imports and the rest local players. The pitch is also artificial so can be used for training and by other community groups
Thank you very much for coming such a long way to Tampines Stadium (pronounced Tam-pi-nes). Much appreciated that you made a video about your visit here. I stay in Tampines and I'm proud of our "weird" stadium. Have you also heard of the other 'weird" fact that there are several swimming pools located at the top floor of the building?
Thank you for the awesome vlog coverage of our country and one of my favourite places to chill at as an “Eastie” living in Singapore is Our Tampines Hub too. On some weekends they even do free movie screenings at night for public members to enjoy. I feel so proud as a Singaporean that you enjoyed your time here with us. (:
Incredible video! Probably my favourite of all of yours that I've seen, so unique and informative. That stadium really is fascinating...like Kenilworth Road on an insane amount of steroids! Safe travels, keep up the great work.
i literally just went to tampines hub today for a pilates class 😂 really interesting to see a foreigner/tourist's thoughts and reaction to our stadium because it's so natural to me that I've taken it for granted at how different it is from a typical stadium. well it's more like a sports hub with a stadium than a simple "stadium" lol
Really interesting video Sam, Thanks mate. Credit to the fans who stayed behind after losing 0-2, compared to one set of fans of a team we never mention who vacated Wembley on June 3rd. as soon as the whistle blew.
I couldn't believe it when I saw the thumbnail for this video - I'm going to Singapore next month and I've planned to watch a match in this stadium! Really looking forward to the trip, and it's great to have a sneak preview of the stadium, although I'll be watching the "real" home team - Tampines Rovers.
This is probably one of the best videos you have made, 👏 And the stadium,, 😮 I'll pop into the shopping mall, do some running,🏃 hit the gym 🏋️♂️ get my shopping then take in a football match 🏐 🥅. Brilliant 🙂
Love this country. Lived there for several years and actually played on the Town Square for sunday league football. It can get very hot at pitch level with the turf and enclosed space.
I love your ability to talk about different topics (e.g. the historical stuff in this vid) in an equally interesting way! Really like it when it's about football..but not only 😉 Very excited for the videos of your Asia trip 👏🏻😊
thank you for covering ASEAN football. You are hands down one of the best football youtuber beyond, the usual analysis video, football boots review etc. Your content really brings football and the story behind each team and stadium to your viewers. Best of luck for your future journey as football youtuber Vloggers.
I've been living in Singapore for almost 2 years and spent most of the time at Tampines. I still have this confusion and amusement every time i go to Our Tampines Hub haha. Personally, so far this place is the most unique than anything else i have found in Singapore. Pure class. 👏
I think this stadium has got badminton courts and swimming pools as well. I enjoyed jogging and shopping at the same time at that stadium. Happened to be there when the volunteer gardeners were harvesting and giving away free veggies and was given some.
Hey Sam, welcome to the San Siro of the Singapore Premier League! Glad you made it all the way here and I hope you left with fond memories. Thank you for injecting some hope into Singapore's Football scene! God Bless ya Mate.
Thank for featuring my team, Hougang United! I'm travelling the UK now, was hopping to bump into you here and I see this video haha! There was a player who played for Hibs a few years back, who played for Hougang United many years ago (back than we were called something else) and that player is Grant Holt!
That was brilliant. Great that you're having proper adventures now. That museum looks a fascinating place. Came for the football stayed for the History and Geopolitics
Singapore is a great place. I loved it when I was there, expensive but have a look around as you do get bargains, go to the market places to get great deals
Me and family have been to One Tampines Hub (Where the stadium is located) more than a few times and it certainly feels weird to be watching it on youtube. It feels... normal, but impressive, yet normal to us.
Welcome to Singapore! Hope you had a chance to explore every inch of Our Tampines Hub as there is a supermarket and a Bowling Alley in the basement with more food/eateries.... and sports halls on level 2 & 3 for floorball, badminton, table tennis; a public gym and rooftop swimming pools too! Oh and sheltered tennis courts just next to the stadium block ... It's a lively hub with free late night movies or World Cup matches at the Festive Plaza (where the stage is) to bring the community together. :)
Welcome to my hood!!! Tampines is the best neighbourhood, OF COURSE! In fact, in October 1992, Tampines Town won the United Nations’ World Habitat Award. The award recognises innovative and successful human settlements. Our Tampines Hub (OTH) is really a club for the public, hence, the amenities that you saw. Well planned! Did you check out the pools, gym and library?
Have you visited the Marina Bay Floating Platform? Its a stadium opposite Marina Bay Sands hotel and its on water. By the way, Im a Hougang United fan… we actually have the Hougang Hools. Hougang is currently the defending Singapore Cup winners. We used to play at Hougang Stadium and at best had one of the best atmospheres. Moving 15km south to Jalan Besar really hurt the fanbase, and we are praying to return to Hougang soon.
It’s a community complex, with food, some shops, a gigantic library (all the glass windows surrounding 3 sides of the stadium across 5 floors is the library). There’s also a stage for live performances and free movie screenings (not crappy stuff, but just last season movies like Maverick).
Wow. Enjoyed this video much. I've been told about the Tampines Hub but haven't actually been there. I hope you had a good time here in Singapore! We don't have a lot of space here so we build upwards. That's why the running track was stacked on top of the mall and football stadium. Personally, I think the weirdest stadium in Singapore is a stadium in name only - "Geylang Stadium". Geylang is a district in the eastern part of Singapore, not far from our National Stadium. It is well-known for 2 things - food and the red light district. Geylang Stadium is situated in the middle of the red-light district. There is no stand so it's just a fenced-off field. However, our national team do train there sometimes. So a "stadium" with brothels nearby. How's that for weird?! Cheers mate!
Hi! Welcome to Tampines! My hometown. Our Tampines Hub has the most unique stadium. Some future town stadiums will be using same concept. Hope you enjoyed your trip even with the late luggage. 😊
Thanks for sharing your good energy despite the long haul, and incredible commentary on places you have visited all along the way and whilst navigating in Singapore. I enjoy this video very much.😊
Wow welcome to my country! Our football stadiums are pretty small and not like those in Europe however if you are looking for one proper stadium near Singapore you can go to Johor Bahru and visit the sultan Ibrahim stadium of Johor Darul Takzim. Beautiful stadium with great atmosphere, fans and team!
There will be a big match soon, where Johor Darul Takzim will face Kuala Lumpur City in the piala FA Malaysia cup and it is expected to be feisty with a full house stadium on the 22nd July. I will be going there to watch too.
In fact if you are interested to watch more Singapore premier league, I did recommend Albirex Niigata base on their style of play. The very reason why they are so successful in the league. Do catch Lion City Sailors too, our very own Manchester City, many experienced foreign imports plying their trades here.
Another fascinating video Sam. One of your best yet. Well worth the long journey. Good thing you always have your camera equipment with you and don't carry it in your luggage though.
This feels like the complete opposite of how Singaporeans like me flew 10,000km to watch an EPL match. Different expectations, but definitely a memorable experience. Southampton fan here btw. Caught a match at St. Mary's Stadium and witnessed the goal of the season scored by Sofiane Boufal. Amazing experience! I hope you enjoyed watching the SPL match. This video encourages me to watch Singapore football live! Thank you!
Btw, this is the first time i watched your video. I think you've got good content and you're apparently knowledgeable about Asia in terms of the geography and basic information of the countries. Good stuff, keep it up!
Thanks Sam. This was so interesting. I learnt so much. What a stadium 😳 but my vertigo kicked in when you went up the higher sections and roof 🙈 Great content as always 💚🍀
You should’ve checked out the library dude. They have window seats, you would’ve had a perfect view of the game. Also, Jermaine Pennant played for Tampines Rovers for a brief period. 🤯
You could have had a swim on the top floor to cool down from the weather, have an affordable early dinner at the hawker centre on the ground floor and then watch the match. :) Hope you had a good time in SG
As a person living in Sg there are plenty of Liverpool fans like me. Real interesting of thinking of the stadium being weird! Beautiful at night though. I just did a trip from SG to DXB to London Heathrow 20 days ago. Just finished the holiday around Europe.
Good friend Sam,I live in the neighbouring country which is Malaysia and once I just only saw your thumbnail,I knew that you are in Singapore and this is your second Asian trip after Indonesia!!!Of course, the football is fun over there in Singapore and I knew that you have enjoyed your trip well, good friend!!!🏋♂️
Saw SG flag on the video so I hopped in, not expecting such a great content! Hope you enjoyed your stay despite the baggage issue. Definitely did not expect to watch a short history lesson midway in haha
That was an interesting watch. I think I like your non-U.K. videos more than your U.K.-based ones. There is a stadium in Belgrade, Voždovac Stadium, that's on top of a shopping mall. "Never been to Turkey before." Yes, you need to go to Turkey. Even completely ignoring the football aspect, it's an amazing place, and the football atmospheres there are incredible. I wish that countdowns over the public address system immediately prior to kickoff would stop. That is so annoying, at least to me. Do others like that?
Excellent video Sam. Reminded me of two stadiums, although nowhere near as idiosyncratic and impressive as this one. The City of Coimbra Stadium in Portugal where I saw Académica play Sporting in 2010 (heady days, they're now in the third tier) which has a shopping mall and cinema at one end. The running track reminded me of Meadowbank (before redevelopment). Only concourse I've been to where you could get a pie, a coffee, and time yourself in the 100m. Also there was a gym in one of the corners which meant if you were on one of the treadmills you could watch Edinburgh City for free on a Saturday afternoon
Once I saw the thumbnail I immediately knew it was the stadium at OTH. I’ve actually had the honor to play at the stadium for a bit, and it’s cool to watch matches going on from the library.
You could go do the groceries there and then get an earful from the missus because you end up being 3 hours late because you choose to watch a match along the way
Football standards in Singapore have drop for quite a while now. And actually there were more clubs around Singapore participating but most have closed due to not enough budget. But if Singaporean dont support their own league then who else will support us. Hopefully in a few years down the road Singapore football will be getting better and better
I'm Singaporean and have been to the mall and I swear I had no idea there's a football field there hahaha. I was there for the mall but I guess I could catch a game there in the future!
What a superb picturesque stadium. Imagine that at the Trafford Centre or Bluewater or St James Quarter. There's got to be more like this. Just think, if you got bored of it, pop into Primark and get a different football top 😂
Our local league is pretty much always a laughing stock as the standard of our league still has a long way to go. But they are always a great watch and even better watching them live. My dream for local football is for the passion to be reignited like they were in the 80s and 90s.
What other weird & unique stadiums are there around the world???
Pancho Arena in Hungary
Igraliste Batarija and Stadion Gospin Dolac in Croatia
I believe that there is a stadium on the roof of a shopping centre. Is it in Spain?
Fecking free loaders in the hub.... Library is like VIP, super nice seats, AC and a robot to smack about if your teams losing.
it's not a football stadium but Fenway Park in Boston is a bit bizarre. It does occasionally host preseason football matches but it hasn't happened in a while.

This kind of stadium cum shopping centre only can work in Singapore or maybe say major capital cities and very specific places with high population density.
Punggol Regional Sports Centre is completing soon. Toa Payoh is the next big redevelopment.
But first I hope Singapore Football standards return to what it once was. FAS should be disbanded after too many poor campaigns.

A strange stadium, only having 1 stand, but, it gets more use than most stadia in UK. It might just be a way to go for smaller clubs, and to keep football in the centre of communities and not in some far flung area of the town (referring to your Kassam Stadium visit)
Interestingly, the Hub is located right in the middle of the town, and Tampines is by no means a small district of 265k population.
What a rubbish thing to say - I work as a guard at games of 7th tier of English football and their games have more attendees
Super video Sam. Fascinating trip and a great insight into global football culture. Terrific work!
Hey Luis here. Glad you enjoyed the experience mate!
Ill catch ya if I could go to Paradise to watch Celtic in the future!
🇸🇬 Singapore represent! Just earned a new subscriber. Looking forward to more videos from you. Travel safe.
Welcome to the channel! Thank you
i literally just went to tampines hub today for a pilates class 😂 really interesting to see a foreigner/tourist's thoughts and reaction to our stadium because it's so natural to me that I've taken it for granted at how different it is from a typical stadium. well it's more like a sports hub with a stadium than a simple "stadium" lol
Really interesting video Sam, Thanks mate. Credit to the fans who stayed behind after losing 0-2, compared to one set of fans of a team we never mention who vacated Wembley on June 3rd. as soon as the whistle blew.
As someone who is a Singaporean, I can confirm this is truly one of THE stadium videos of all time.
Yes Tampines Rovers is the Manchester United of Singapore
if u plan to come next month, do try to come on 4th August. Tampines will play Lion City Sailors at home. 2 of the better teams in Singapore.
That home team wont lose when you watch them. Tampines is the better team in the east.
Jeez yeah I bet it gets boiling on there! Thanks for watching mate, appreciate it
I love your ability to talk about different topics (e.g. the historical stuff in this vid) in an equally interesting way!
Loved Singapore when I visited a good few years back, must go back some day 😀 Great video 😉👍
You really are living the dream Sam, (and you fully deserve to for bringing us content like this!)
awesome video, super cool to see games from this part of the world. That stadium is really cool though i love how it's built into the city
Im Singaporean and proud of our cleanliness and greenness❤ thank you for visiting!!
Brilliant to see you in Singapore sam. I visited last year and its an unreal place! Brilliant vid as usual keep it going 💪
That was brilliant. Great that you're having proper adventures now. That museum looks a fascinating place.
Came for the football stayed for the History and Geopolitics
Same, probably his best all around video. I rally enjoyed the travel section of this.
Singapore is a great place. I loved it when I was there, expensive but have a look around as you do get bargains, go to the market places to get great deals
In Singapore, there are two extreme ends of the spectrum you can choose either very cheap or super exquisite.
Here he is. My favourite youtuber with yet another banger! 💪🏼 Love these travelling vids
Thanks mate, many more to come!!

Mate, I am from Singapore and I definitely wouldn’t travel 10k miles to watch a match😂 mad respect and nice content mate👍🏻
Ok but which Singaporean says mate

When Dortmund came here a few years ago, they trained there too.
That Geylang stadium is where the Singapore national team does their training sessions.
@@jacksonhan7647 Yes..next to the brothels… :D
It's not weird. it's beautiful & wonderfully optimize. This is why people want to live in Singapore. #HappyBirthdaySingapore
I enjoy this video very much.😊
I was in Singapore this time last year to watch Liverpools pre-season. 50,000 Liverpool fans in the national stadium. Great experience.
What?? You were in Singapore?! Props to you Sam!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Great video thanks for coming to our sunny shores, hoped you enjoyed your time here mate.
Besides the football stadium, there is a 5th storey library in the mall, opposite where you seated.
Another fascinating video Sam. One of your best yet. Well worth the long journey. Good thing you always have your camera equipment with you and don't carry it in your luggage though.
I am Singaporean and a Liverpool fan! Thanks for featuring Singapore football!!
Hope you had a good time in SG
Yo brother, I havent watched you in so long, glad to see you havent changed one bit. Thank you for making these videos!❤
As a Singaporean I’m glad you visited us and came to one of our famous football clubs my coach used to coach and play there
Tyyy
Thanks for taking us to this unique stadium
You never miss, another great video!
Been watching your videos and the fact that youre in my home country Singapore is crazy! Welcome! I hope you had a great time in Singapor
Thank you for coming to Singapore! I hope you had a unique experience 🙏🏻
Great Video as always Sam
had been following your footy adventures for a while and i can't believe you're in my country! welcome to Singapore!!
🇸🇬 Singapore loves it's sport. They have a Formula 1 race too of course.
Usually when it's the weekend and a Tampines match, there are more people in the stands
as a Singaporean, I love watching this video! Thanks for making it!
Welcome to Sg!
I watch your Scottish football videos all the time. Must eat Chilli Crab, chicken rice and fried Hokkien mee!
Fantastic Stuff. Was a really interesting video. Literally feel like flying out to see that stadium
Once I saw the thumbnail I immediately knew it was the stadium at OTH. I’ve actually had the honor to play at the stadium for a bit, and it’s cool to watch matches going on from the library.
This is the craziest thing I’ve ever seen anyone doing. Big Thanks for traveling that 10,000 km trip to cover a football match .
Great vid and what a cool stadium! Geylang had an away kit in 2015 which was a direct copy of the Cov City tramline shirt from the 70s 😁
Excellent video Sam. VERY unusual ground !😊
There is also a library and swimming pool. In the basement there are a lot of food options and a supermarket as well.
If you came to Singapore last year, you could've gone to the floating football pitch at The Float @ Marina Bay.
Our local league is pretty much always a laughing stock as the standard of our league still has a long way to go. But they are always a great watch and even better watching them live. My dream for local football is for the passion to be reignited like they were in the 80s and 90s.
