The biggest disasters happen with a small hint of problem. The malfunctioning of the radio meter may not be a big deal but when you are in the air at 35000 feet , it's better to take precautions rather than waiting for consequences.
@@johnb8956 The barometric altimeter isn't adequate at low level, hence the radio altimeter, so in reality there's no redundancy there. A sensible precaution would be 2 radalts.
There is no such thing as autopilot error. The autopilot does not fly the plane on its own. The pilots input what they want it to do and it obeys the orders given to them
Thomas Mortimore oof, so ur saying that the radio altimeters, artificial horizon, PFD, MCDU and etc is not bound to fail at all and it’s mainly pilot error...... lol
The idea of autopilot is that it will keep the plane steady while pilot and copilot do other tasks. Like landing calculations to see if the plane has the right land weight. So if the plane needs to turn the pilot does the input.
Colin McCarthy umm... no, the autopilot is what is mainly flying the plane during a flight.. pilot program a route in the FMS, FMC, or MCDU that will take them to the destination of their choosing. Then after they depart after reaching 5000 ft or maybe less they turn on the autopilot and the auto throttle and it mainly flies the plane until it time to land, and if the weather is bad they use the auto pilot to perform an ILS and or a CATIII arrival which basically lands the plane for them in IMC conditions. They do follow the pilots “orders” but it’s used mainly used to take them for point A to point B. And plus the autopilot might have mechanical issues from time to time... it happened a few times.
Sync Aviation sorry I was talking about when not flying in the route inputed but say if the plane is diverted they might be told to change heading but pilots won’t create a new route for a diversion so the do they new inputs. I didn’t mean that it was how it was fly routes. Sorry if it was taken that way
Thomas Mortimore there are two FMC (depends on what plane u fly on) not 2 autopilots... there are FMC selections where if you want to switch to the copilots FMC you can... but it’s gonna have the same route on it.

It’s a system called MCAS. It puts the plane in a dive if the system detects a possible stall without the pilots inputs. So sad it was designed for safety, but ended up killing people unnecessarily.

over-dramatised nonsense about the autopilot 'causing' a crash. the truth is that the pilots were chit-chatting on the approach when they shouldn't be and neglected to fly the plane.
It's how that flight crashed. They barely had enough altitude, but they came in at a very shallow angle when they actually impacted the earth, they were also going relatively slow still (still under optimal flight speeds), So the plane didn't break up into pieces, it broke up into 1 or 2 separated parts since it slid mostly horizontal during the crash.
Astrokat xxx a lot of mechanics and reaction time plays a big part in either being on time to save a plane or not reacting in time can kill everyone unfortunately

Fuck wit no plane* I’d rather die immediately in a car than in a plane because like you’re just falling fast as fuck until you hit the ground I got an extreme fear of heights fuck that man wouldn’t even know what to do
the statistics measure accidents over a period of time, they don't measure accidents per trip made. One has to consider how many trips are done with cars per day ( from point A to point B -> i can only imagine how big that number of cars is ) and out of those how many accidents do we get. Then we can compare it to the ratio of airplane trips and we can see that car trips are much more than airplane trips, hence we will get more accidents over a period of time. It's simple but i would understand your reaction, No worries.

There have been several issues with the Airbus too, except with Airbus organization they do everything to blame the pilot.
