Good simple video, thanks. In the same boat with the shorts(and Tee's) I'll have something nice on and in the spur of the moment decide to fix/clean/paint something and yeah, there's another set buggered. I've got a whole bunch of "work clothes" now

Thanks for the video, I've seen a few winch teardowns and this was top grade, but, I gave it a thumbs up for the trousers bit.

Great video! Andersen winches are the bees knees as far as I'm concerned, so much easier to let out line that is under pressure compared to the other winches I've tried, none of that "jumping" due to sandpaper-style winch drums. Also, very kind to the cover on lines as well. Love them.

I do it almost exactly the same, so good to know I've been doing it right all these years, although you use a lot more pawl oil than I do. I use only a drop or two on each pawl.

Ok! now to service my soooooo overdue winches.... you may hear the howls of protest as I pull them apart from where you are....

On my Harkens you can't flip a ratchet gear over like that, they're not symmetrical. If you flip it, the pawls will skip and the winch handle will injure somebody....

Practical Sailor's grease testing showed the thicker marine greases were more durable, but it makes my Anderson's "draggy" even in limited amounts. I'm debating switching to a much lighter PTFE grease as the winches in the cockpit are fairly protected. Any comments on lighter / heavier grease?

in a perfect world the ideal setup would be to have an ultrasonic cleaner with mineral spirits.
