I’m not surprised about this one bit, I’m twenty nine and have been playing guitar for over 15 years. It seems like every young guitarist that started playing after myself and other millenials did are obsessed with perfection, virality and replicating other players styles and techniques. Gone are the days, where players would cut their teeth to pave their own way and pick up their instrument with reckless abandon, it’s sad because these behaviours are a consistent culture within the Gen Z and younger of players. I know because I saw it throughout while meeting young players in music school and in other settings.
I've been complaining about this for a while now. I am so glad to see more people have their EARS and their eyes opened to this tomfoolery! Good going Brad, i'm so glad that you make these videos. 💯
Hi Brad did you see the article on Ultimate Classic Rock saying "Just 29 of the Top 200 albums on Billboard's year-end 2024 chart were from rock artists. Depressingly, none of them were released this year. All but five of the 29 were greatest hits collections." How sad and frustrating...
The insanity began when that Guitar Hero game was released....young people think they are actually playing and maybe thats why musicians are marginalized by this generation.
Totally! I've been telling people this since that dumb game was released. Those people actually thought they were a REAL guitarist, minus the years and maybe decades of practicing and rehearsals for LIVE shows where all of your skills and errors are totally raw on display for anyone attending to see.
Another great topic! Thanks for pointing out a serious problem. Note that you can see fakery in old music videos where bands were shown performing their hit songs but the guitar player's fingers weren't anywhere near where the notes were on the fretboard, or the signers' lips weren't moving in time with the vocals. It's always existed, and now amateurs can do it. Sadly, fakery is likely to continue to get worse and more difficult to detect given technological improvements including A.I. Don't be bitter. We've got to have faith that most young people are wise to fakery and are not becoming too cynical. Lke you, they've seen too much of it. Many of us enjoy the truthtellers on UA-cam such as you and for example, "Wings of Pegasus".
As a teacher I would try to find acoustic versions played live. I was the teacher that would get my students to play at open mics or one of my jams I would put on with my musical friends. Like the old days in the 70s. I would show a kid some Taylor Swift or Beyonce production then contrast it with a stripped down version. Part of my job as a teacher , I'm the subversive who shows students what is real.
Musicianship seems like a lost art where now it's treated like an Olympic sport where it's how fast you can play, but they still use fakery to achieve it.
Right on Brad! Old School is where the truth comes out! My friend told me that his decades ago audition as a bass player/singer for a musicians referral service had him playing a few tunes on his bass with no band, then singing totally unaccompanied, no PA/mike, just belting out a tune. Today's younger cats are shorting themselves big time when they don't keep it real.
I guess l should feel good that l never manipulate my videos. It's always me playing thru the entire song. Sometimes l take a few takes, but atleast is a honest performance.
The rubber meets the road when the red light goes on and the drummer counts off. Real guitar sounds old, because it’s real. I like real guitar. Too old to change.
It’s all about views now. A lot of people, especially young ones, think their path to riches is just pumping out bullshit content. Basically flat out lying.
The internet is full of hucksters. I personally never saw someone doing what you are describing, but im sure they are out there. Playing fast wad never something i was really into when i listen to music, im more of a gilmore, the edge, kind of guy which ismore about phrasing, melody, song writing.
All these kids or older on social media, sweeping and tapping like crazy and saying Jimmy Page was sloppy, ok. 😂 Rock n roll needs edge, not sterile "perfection and faster is always better". I dont think some of them have any idea concept of what music is. Its not a computer game. They should listen some Billie Holiday or Louis Armstrong.
You make valid points,i agree. I always wonder where "featuring ", began and why. You know, I suck suckye new single, wack out , featuring Jimbo. I don't know suckye, let alone Jimbo
I've seen Chris Buck and Tim Pierce both post mistake filled videos to let you know they just dont hit record and let it rip, its take 15 or whatever that you see. I only post to my wife's FB account and may do 5 takes before I post warts and all some cover that I'm playing too. When I'm not on top of a solo perfectly that's when you hear me stick out. Its live music, not supposed to be perfect!
Right on Brad! That kind of fakery drives me crazy. The problem is with the people who think it’s all real. And as you said, if you try and call out the fakers, the “believers” jump all over you. 😂
They will always be in that chair won't they? because you are a live performer, they got the green screen thats about all, and clicks.short sighted i think.
I can't listen to any of todays music. It all sounds like it was created in some laboratory. This is exactly why I continue to listen to rock from the 70s and 80s. Will something give? We shall see.
I feel ya Brad. Real music has gone underground for a while. Maybe this is the way it is supposed to be for now. Music will come around again from a more mature perspective I believe. I am 55 and this link to a video says a lot...I just stumbled upon this a few minutes ago. Just sharing. I find it inspiring. ua-cam.com/video/KmaQQC8TaoA/v-deo.html
Haha ive been saying this since i started this journey. Im so glad someone is exposing it now. Happy holidays Brad, from my family to yours!
Happy Holidays.
Glad this is getting called out.
Thank you

There are some great young cats out there and some real jokers.
Not to get political but there are striking similarities to what we are experiencing as a country.
Its not political, its a fact!
Well said, without mentioning the blatantly obvious all around us these days.
So much fakery and stupidity, anything for those social media ratings.
I don’t care what someone can do or can’t do by themselves. Let me see these so-called guitar whizzes play in a live band.
Exactly!
Well said !
I've been complaining about this for a while now. I am so glad to see more people have their EARS and their eyes opened to this tomfoolery! Good going Brad, i'm so glad that you make these videos. 💯

I did not see that....quite alarming.
@@badbrad Fleetwood Mac's 47 year old album Rumours was the highest-charting rock album on Billboard's 2024 year-end chart. Unbelievable.
The era is over. All genres pass. Let the current generation have their fake shit. That’s why they are still listening to ours.
The insanity began when that Guitar Hero game was released....young people think they are actually playing and maybe thats why musicians are marginalized by this generation.
Man that's a good point...
Hand them a real guitar plugged into a real rig and watch the expression on their face.
Totally! I've been telling people this since that dumb game was released. Those people actually thought they were a REAL guitarist, minus the years and maybe decades of practicing and rehearsals for LIVE shows where all of your skills and errors are totally raw on display for anyone attending to see.
I watched this last night after listening to my kid absolutely annihilate a Twin Reverb for 45 minutes lol.
He's doing it the right way!

Gotta love wings of Pegasus

We need more teachers like you.

They sure are!!!

That’s the way to do it!

Me to!
Excellent video Brad.
Thank you! 🙏
To call out or not to call out that is the trickery answer
It's tricky.
Call out the trickery, or guitar playing will be viewed as a joke by the average listeners.
Call it out !
I've heard several UA-cam guitar teachers say that they edit like crazy, and have never played live.
Oh man
It’s all about views now. A lot of people, especially young ones, think their path to riches is just pumping out bullshit content. Basically flat out lying.
It’s a disservice to themselves ultimately
Nice walk and talk, and a gator, Brad! Yea, that isn't cool, brother. Not at all. Have a good evening, from Jacksonville, Florida.
Appreciate you watching from Jacksonville!
Amen!

Man you know it!
Actually any genre needs edge and emotion, from classical to jazz, not perfection.
I suck. However, only my wife, children and neighbors know with certainty. With all others, it's just a guess.
You make valid points,i agree. I always wonder where "featuring ", began and why. You know, I suck suckye new single, wack out , featuring Jimbo. I don't know suckye, let alone Jimbo
preach brother….
Will do!

It’s a trough of fools.

Technology man. Often times I wish I could go back in time and buy old Ted Kaczynski a fine meal because he knew what was up
Crazy indeed
Is it live or is it Memorex Brad you are so right
Man you know
Bro...I'm just glad that I can still play G, C, and D. Sometimes...if I'm feeling frisky...I might go all out and throw in an F or E minor...
