2018 Alaska Black Bear with Randy Newberg and Mike Spitzer (Part 1 of 7)

  • Randy Newberg is back to his favorite bear hunting location; Southeast Alaska. With him is long-time friend and hunting partner, Mike Spitzer and seasoned field producer, Marcus Hockett. This is Mike's first black bear hunt in Alaska and hopefully one to remember.
    The crew has flown into Petersburg, then used Pacific Wings to fly them to the skiff rental location, where Randy will make a two-hour boat ride to meet up with Mike and Marcus who have flown to the agreed upon camp location.
    Two years ago, Randy missed a bear near here. In the back of his mind is the idea that he might have another encounter with that same old bear, and if so, hopefully a different outcome.

    Oh man Randy....to much good stuff. I'll be following lol. I grew up in that little village. Tough life. I live in WA now. Sure miss that little peace of Heaven you return to time and time again. It makes me happy to see you enjoy it so much. Many cherished memories. Love your work. Thanks.

    Wow, what a fantastic episode. Great camera work and editing. Thanks so much for sharing this incredible trip. And if someone can turn that last shot of Randy sniffing the crab into an animated GIF, I think we'd all be much obliged.

    Sniffing the crab is the dumbest thing you’ve done since eating the cactus in Arizona 😂

      Randy Newberg, Hunter I drew a colorado bull elk tag in unit 77. Have you ever been in the area and the atlas is helpful. But what be your best advice for a 1st time hunter?

      That was beyond rotten. And to think bears are patrolling the beaches for that skanky stuff.

    Wow! Randy, you have blazed new trails in hunting videos! You have the best digital VFX ever: those Nine Enormous Boars. They are indistinguishable from Real Bears. How much did you have to pay for those looong minutes of VFX?
    Oh! and oooOOOoooo! Slo-Mo Water! And oooOOOoooooo! Slo-Mo Flying--Wait! What? Oh, that's the normal speed of that Otter . . . :-)

  • @Randy_Savage_ohyeah

    Hmm some dead critter washed up on the beach, let me take a whiff of that.... Hilarious!! Looks like you're gonna have an awesome hunt, can't wait to watch.

    Glad to see you back, we did DL17 in early may and took one large boar. We have drawn for DL30 in 2019. Good tip on going a little later. Also wanted to ask about not having a skiff delivered - we talked to Rich with AGF and he had not heard of that law? Thanks for the great video.

    • @Fresh_Tracks
      @Fresh_Tracks  6 років тому

      Ask the State Trooper about that law. They will make sure you are aware. It is the greatest complication of the entire trip.

    • @jackshoffstall7677
      @jackshoffstall7677 6 років тому

      Thanks Randy, didn't doubt you, just could not find it on line. I actually met the Trooper last month, will give him a call. Would make it much easier if a skiff could be delivered - looks like you guys are in bear mecca this trip - best of luck!

    I'm ready for the next day! The crab scene was great! Are these OTC tags?

    • @Fresh_Tracks
      @Fresh_Tracks  6 років тому

      These require a draw if you hunt self-guided as a non-resident. OTC for residents and guided non-residents.

  • @matthewcross9922
    @matthewcross9922 6 років тому

    Randy, where do you get your skiffs? I'm getting ready to move from Wyoming to Kake and that seems like a logical location based off what I have seen in previous videos. If that's where you go, I'd love to shake your hand on the dock next time you come in.

  • @RatdogDRB
    @RatdogDRB 6 років тому

    Randy? Didn't you know that smearing 3 day old dead crab juice all over you will keep the skeeters away and attract the bears? LOL (Ok, so, m'be I made up the skeeter thing)

    Should be a good hunt. I love watching the semi lives. But I am a little concerned, that you may be kicked out of the chopper mitt club once this video makes it to them and you have the dreaded gloves on. Good luck boys go get em.
