I was one of the main guitarists in a church that had a weekly attendance of around 5000 people each week for over a decade . I’ve thought a lot about what I was doing and how it glorified God. As the church grew and added more stage lighting… mist machines, it became clear to the point of being uncomfortable that the audience attentions were on the band and not pointed towards God. My prayer before every service was that I be invisible and that to him be all the glory. One night I was out at a restaurant with business partners and the waitress recognized me and was very complementary about my playing and how much she loved our church band.. big problem for me, I was clearly not invisible and all glory was not being given to the Lord. Praise band members really struggle with these issues.
I am now in a much smaller church and I don’t participate on the music team. I am still very active in my church but my music skills are not being used or are they needed.
Church service is to feed the word to the flock, not the world to the church. If what is being done in the worship service doesn’t point the congregation’s hearts towards God it shouldn’t be done and it has no place in our worship service.
The entire purpose of our Sunday gathering is to point our hearts and minds towards our maker, to worship him and him only!

@@russdunton2103 Your welcome, I play drums In church on a occasion, few times a year when needed, back when I was younger I played every Sunday, now I don't at my current church, but I know my role and that's fine. Not all worship is bad, my biggest problem especially with playing drums they want you to play it just like the recording or close to it. I don't have that kind of time to learn a song note for note, but I get it close, and also I've never played with a click before that was hard at first, but God has helped me. But or worship band is awesome. I just do the best I can to learn the songs when I play, and stay in time that's main thing.

It seems that Todd has a limited understanding of what biblical worship is, as defined in the Bible. Using Psalm 100 as the reference,
"Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations."
We can see that thanksgiving is a way of drawing near to God, and praise as a vehicle to draw closer still. This is where some denominations end their "worship" to God.
However, entering into the next step of actual Worship required all of a believer's being, and that includes both the physical and the emotions - "Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs." A believer's display of Worship is up to their personal expression.
Band music influence believers to draw near to God through thanksgiving and praise and at times extend this influence, which could have a positive, or negative affect. But, true worship requires the emotions - It is union and communion with God in intimacy. In this environment, Worship is an aspect of Holiness - there is no union without holiness in a believer.
1 Corinthians 6v17 - "But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit."
Of course: some "worship sessions" do have thanksgiving and praise; however it does not enter Worship, because of earthly performance or wrong motives; and the assembly's personal relationship with the Lord.
This all sits in the framework of John 4:24 "'God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.'” - But this is a matter for another day. :)

I will say, there's a reason most of these "wretched" guys, as well as your husband, hate music, and it's because their faith is entirely head centered. It's entirely based on worship of the intellect.
These people act as if the Holy Spirit sleeps, and that any form of emotion during a WORSHIP service, that's "manipulation", and that's simply not true. It's no wonder these folks love boring hymns sung by folks with no talent, including the congregation.
Beware of the temptation to make your whole faith intellectual, your heart must be conformed as well, and that includes emotions, and worship is a good way to do so.

The only instruments we see in heaven are harps accompanying worship song. "Rev. 5:7 And he went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who was seated on the throne. 8 And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, reach holding a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. 9 And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation,10 and you have made them ya kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.”
Though other instruments were used to worship in Israel, including the pipe, though never drums. When Christ rules the world from Jerusalem, horses will ring out as they move in worship for God with bells attached to them. Zechariah 14:20-"In that day 'HOLINESS TO THE LORD' shall be engraved on the bells of the horses."
We know the music of heaven will be perfect holiness, purity, and innocence as these are some of Christ’s attributes. It will be far more undefiled and innocent than we can imagine! No worldly/secular/trendy music or beat, and immodest dress. The traditions/culture/society, ways of men, are not of Christ-Colossians 2:8, Matthew 15:9, etc. It is all wanting to be rocking and rolling with satan’s sensual ways. If rock music was not satan’s forte, it would not be in our so-called churches.
David played lovely melody on a harp that caused a demon to leave Saul. (1 Samuel 16) Saul would rather be plagued by a demon than repent of his sins. We know sexy, rock music with its exposing attire is all-pleasing to satan and the demons. The Grammy awards ceremony worshipped satan with it. We know the demons did not flee. Various rock groups worship satan in song.
Ancient harps and harp artwork have been located in Israel and other locals by archeologists, dating back to BC, and they appear to be the same as the harps we see and hear today though with only 10 to 22 strings. Today’s harps own 20 to 40 strings.
A Jewish woman of Israel who is an expert in ancient harps, stated that those who hate the Jews hate harps. Perhaps stated from her personal experiences of being an Israelite.
Women in churches adore sexy rock drummers and guitarists. Everyone knows the truth! There was a time when choirs were placed in the back of many churches, in the back loft-no show-off talent displayed. We are to dwell on those things lovely and pure. Rock music does not have a lovely melody of purity and innocence. There is a video of the naked cowboy in a church where supposedly the Gospel is preached and the women are going crazy wanting him. This is not of Almighty Holy God and the true Jesus Christ! Jesus Christ of the Bible is all innocence, purity, being undefiled, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens; Hebrews 7:26.
Ephesians 4 says music is to be melodious, where God’s true children sing and make melody in hearts to the LORD. A sexy-driven beat is blasphemous to what is exampled. We are to be imitators of Christ and His example is harp music with Biblical lyrics as the Song of Moses will be sung in heaven. Archeologists have located ancients harps in Israel that resemble today’s harps, though only holding 22 strings. We must ask ourselves do the instruments allowed in churches represent a chaste, innocent, undefiled, holy melody that represents all of Christ’s undefiled attributes?
Do you not find it interesting that satan was worshipped at the Grammy Awards? Did any rock and rolling church of the sexy beat expose and condemn this?
I will add, placing drums behind plexiglass drum shields do not transpose the driven beat into a holy melody.

FYI, I was saved during an "altar call" in 1977. I'm a little tired of people dissing them as if they shouldn't be done. If the Pastor had not made that invitation to come forward that day I'd likely be in Hades awaiting being cast into the lake of fire and brimstone! I had been witnessed to from Isaiah 53 one week earlier and God's Spirit convicted me that it was true and it was about the sufferings and death of the Lamb of God for my sins. I KNEW I needed salvation but REFUSED to get saved that evening. I remained under deep conviction that week. I went to church for the first time in about a DECADE the following Sunday and went forward. I was dealt with by the same young man who used the Romans Road to lead me to Christ. He made sure I understood and believed each point and led me in a sinner's prayer for salvation. Guess what, while I was praying that prayer I believed and got miraculously born again. Don't tell me that churches should not have altar calls or that saying a sinner's prayer is wrong or even leading someone in prayer for salvation is wrong.

I celebrate your new life in Christ and lasting commitment to Jesus (perseverance) which demonstrates (to me anyway) that God used the “altar call” for you. Continue to preserve! He uses other approaches on others.
We need to use many approaches to reach the lost, like WE ALL WERE at one time in our lives.
Music IS a powerful medium. If the lyrics are biblical, it it exalts Jesus and not men, God can use our efforts.
I like to remember that Jesus used 2 fish and 5 loves (a meager contribution) to feed 5,000.

I started going to Calvery Chapel in Costa Mesa California and for the first time heard incredible teaching about Jesus. After about 6 months of going to church I knew I needed Jesus. This Church had classes to explain all about salvation and I walked forward as they gave the Alter call and received Jesus as my Lord and Savior, (Born Again) I was baptized in water, and baptized in the Holy Spirit and I have my prayer language. That was in 1974...I am now 50 years old in the Lord and 70 years old in life. I don't know how anyone can live without the Lord.. I know and I am sure you know He is coming soon! Stay vigilant in prayer, reading the Word, and being obedient. I will meet you in Heaven...I Praise God for you!

I recall the day I knew something was terribly wrong...when our band played the DOOBIE-Brothers song...'Jesus is just Alright with Me' and it felt so WRONG..I questioned WHY are we doing such secular music to reach the masses for Jesus??! The Gospel, speaks for itself! It does not need bells, whistles, drums and amps...to motivate people to worship the ONE TRUE LIVING GOD. I felt ashamed...that worship of such a Holy God had come to this. My heart felt broken...WHY must we ACT like the world to attract others? Isn't Gods gift of His SON worthy of more respect than this?? I Left my church after talking to my pastors...yet none understood what I said....

I was on a praise team for 17 years. Now that I reflect on those years I can see how the way we did music slowly changed. From lights being on and windows open to blinds, the walls being painted black, dimmed lights to darkness with a few dim lights on and spot lights shining down on the team up on stage. I felt God telling me this was not right but I was in denial for awhile because I felt like I was serving with a gift he had given me and other people would say how blessed they were by our team so I felt very conflicted but we know that it’s not about our feelings. I prayed for awhile and God was clear, he wanted me to step down. People were asking me for a long time when are you going to sing again, I miss hearing your voice. Those comments confirmed for me what God was revealing to my heart, we need to get rid of the stages and popular singers, strip away all the things we think we need to set the mood and just lift all our voices together in praise to our Heavenly Father. I’m encouraged to see other believers eyes opening to this and I pray we can get to a place where it’s all about God because he is all we need. God Bless

There are times I want to stop downtown where I live and start to sing on the street corner… I do sing worship songs in my car as I drive through my city because I’m claiming it for Jesus Christ. I’m praying for the people here… But music is so powerful and God definitely has given us gifts in that area to reach people. Our voice is a tool that God’s given us that resonates in peoples hearts to bring the gospel. My college-aged son was at the Asbury outpouring. My wife and two more of our kids also attended for 24 hours. It began from preaching in Romans, just as you point out is required. And the response was public confession of and repentance from sin. The singing was joyful response for what God was doing in and through people. One such recipient, my (at the time) 11-year old son who after only being in the auditorium 15 minutes was compelled by the Spirit to repent…and he wept for 45 minutes not because of the music, which was sub-par from a musicality perspective, but from grief and subsequent freedom.
It is sad when Reformed theology demands God remain in His box, as if He never sent worship ahead in battle. Maybe salvation only counts when the proper words are spoken from a career pastor; I don’t read that anywhere. Maybe when people rejoice in song over Gods miraculous salvation work it retroactively undoes His work; I don’t read that in the Bible either. Or maybe we can celebrate ecstatically, for even weeks, when we encounter His presence and see His handiwork firsthand. I know I did, and I will continue to testify of His outpouring upon thousands, even as the music played.

Amen to this. What is happening now can be likened in preaching in the marketplace. Loud, lots of distractions, no response from people, and there are dangers of being persecuted; not the best condition to evangelize but why we do it anyway? Because we preach where people are. We don’t preach in cemeteries because no one’s there to listen. When we use music let us say even to stir people’s emotions, or even to advertise a church. The point is, we get people to come to us so that they can hear the gospel eventually. It is either we come to the people or we draw people to come to us. The gospel is the power of God to save people, music can be a tool to ready their hearts or at least to draw them to come. I say that God in His sovereignty can use nature and all that man may come up to so people will be drawn to Him and to His word. Isn’t it a time to rejoice that while nations celebrate stuffs that God abhors, there are people that are drawn to Christ. Why not think of it that these movements set the stage for the pastors and evangelists to harvest what they planted or at least prepared. I hope that we continue to work together and pray for each other’s ministries instead of discrediting others.

How about this. No music before and during the church service, then AFTER, and only after the preaching and teaching are concluded, then all who want to have music may sing as a congregation, to their hearts content. @georgejr.9935 The word "worship" is NOT a synonym for "music". The conflating of the two is a serious part of the problem. To "worship" something is to give it worth-ship. To acknowledge the object of worship by giving it our full attention, and adoration. This can be done by paying full attention to the teaching/preaching during the service, without the distraction of music. For those that need it, they can make all the noise they want AFTER the service, and AFTER I've left the building. Satan has addicted the whole world with non stop, ever present music. It is time to fight back by putting music in the back seat in our services.

I don't think anybody considers worship wrong. With certain styles of worship however, there is a temptation to worship our emotions or the musicians or our assembly rather than the Lord. Certain setups tend to promote that, for example working with lights, smoke, or, in my opinion, having the musicians on a stage which makes it a show. They should lead the congregation in common worship, but not be worship actors.

I think a big problem with the evangelical church today, is glorification of stoicism, cynicism, criticism and the disparaging of music, singing, musicians, Godly emotions.
You can see it by the comment section. It’s full of criticism, people refusing to fellowship with other believers, walking out of a church service if they see an instrument they don’t like, claiming emotional responses to the gospel are false conversions, praising music but accusing the musicians, claiming any emotional response to music is manipulation. These blanket accusations are not of God, they are not Biblical, they are not exhibiting the fruits of the Spirit.
Singing to God and one another is a command. I do not think it would be wise to ban it in any evangelical setting where the Word of God is preached.

Todd Freel must be the most negative and critical person in Christianity. He mocks any church “production” whether it’s musicians or something else, yet uses production elements in his own videos. The “set” he uses is designed to elicit a comfortable response for his audience. His walking around, following the camera is designed to foster interest. And no one should take issue with that.
I’d sure like to hear Todd say something positive instead of too often tearing down others and assuming the worst. Any musicians serving the church must feel like I do after hearing Todd cast them aside as manipulative distractions. It’s more than disheartening and quite often insulting. Being honest here.

You make some good points about his set but he also makes some good points about the current state of the church. I didn't take what he said as dissing musicians. PTL for talented Christian musicians! But the Gospel is propagated best by preaching. (Romans 10:14) "How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?"
With all due respect, I can sympathize with your sensitivity as a musician and I am sure you are using your gifts in the church. But this pushback to Todd's message is unfair to him, IMO, and we should all focus on what he said about the over-emphasis of music (and other things) in today's church AT THE EXPENSE of solid biblical preaching. That's what he's saying and it is not being non-positive because he is PROMOTING preaching. We should all recognize the shallowness of MANY (not all) churches that focus more on entertainment than solid biblical preaching (just as Todd has pointed out here) and start PROMOTING preaching! If you can notice Todd's "set" and camera angles, surely you can see what he's talking about here in the churches. He is not tearing down others; he is trying to promote non-manipulative worship and biblical preaching. Written with respect for your point of view!

This is a repost of my earlier comment because your reply struck a chord in me (no pun intended). I truly believe you shouldn't tear something down in a message or sermon unless you're fully prepared to build back something that's better & 100% Biblically accurate in its place. Otherwise, you're destroying instead of creating, and leaving rubble (confusion) in its place. In Matthew 13:30, Jesus said, "Let both the wheat and the tare grow together until the harvest: lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them." A farmer may spot a tare in the middle of his wheat field, but to go pull it up, he'd have to trample down half a row of his wheat to do so. And there's no telling if another tare might spring up back in its place before harvest. A pastor may remove a person from their church or force them to leave, but he'll also hurt other members, and perhaps, entire families in doing so. Would it be worth losing 20 members just to stop one person from attending? And the message a pastor who does that is sending is that this person is unsalvagable, unsaveable, & unfit for the Kingdom of God. And if altar calls are a fad, and not Biblical & righteous, then I guess that church, God, and everything else that comes with it is not for me.
This is my earlier reply: I only clicked on this video because I thought it might be something that I might need to be aware of. Sadly, it's only more of the same. I try to stay away from his videos because all he ever seems to do is critique Christianity, Church, and anything to do with God down to the smallest detail. He should write a counter-point book to "The Case For Christ" called, "Why Haven't You Just Given Up And Quit Already?" He continually slams anything that doesn't align perfectly with his theology. But it's his channel, so he can send whatever message he chooses. But I've yet to watch or hear one positive or compelling message from him. It's always negativity, doom, gloom, sarcasm, and mockery. THIS is not uplifting. THIS is not encouraging. THIS is simply tearing down, yet not building back anything better in its place or revealing a better option. THIS is not winning anyone to Christ. If anything, it's pushing Christians away, especially those teetering on the edge and people who have been hurt or discarded by a pastor or church. I always come away from these videos feeling, well, Wretched. And not wretched as in "I need to go repent," but wretched as in "There's no hope for me." As if I'm the worst person on the face of the planet. If that's his aim, he hits his mark every single time without fail. There's no way I could ever meet his level of perfection or match his level of superiority. I'm blocking this channel from my feed as soon as I click on the "Send" button. God Bless.

@@ooneybird27 Although I think the presenter in these vids (on this channel) sometimes makes some good points, I agree with most of what you say. There seem to be a LOT of channels on YT where Christians are accusing other Christians of being apostate, false, etc. etc., and many of them go way overboard with it. A lot of these criticism channels seem to forget what the Apostle Paul said in Philippians 1:15-18. As for music in the churches, there has been music of some sort in worship since the Psalms. Those who dislike the louder music can always find another place of worship where it's quieter. I think the presenter of this vid is making a mountain out of a molehill.

One thing I really appreciate about the Missouri synod Lutheran church that I grew up in was the choir was *always* in the back. We were taught that our focus was to be on God, not the musicians/singers. I was scandalized when I visited other churches and the choir/musicians were in the front. They could idolize their pastor, their church, their denomination, it's the person's choice to idolize. At my church they're up front, but the worship team is not showy or there to perform. Many people are there with eyes closed and singing, not paying much attention to the people up front. We don't whoop and holler at them either.

They had problems. Even Philadelphia, the "good" one. The Lord said that if they persevered he would keep them from the 'hour of temptation'. Although that might have happened historically when compared to the other 6 churches, there is no Philadelphia church today. It's gone. The region is Islamic, and what was left of the denomination was driven out of Turkey in 1922. All churches have failings. And "spiritual" is a double edged sword. Which spirit is in the "spiritual"? I've been in churches where there seemed to be a deep spirituality, that the members maintained was from the Holy Spirit, but later on I questioned which spirit exactly was present, due to some of the doctrines and some of the questionable things that happened during charismatic outbursts. Contemporary Christian Music culture was a conscious overthrow of the traditions of the church, and its advancement led to schism within churches everywhere, more or less along generational lines. There have been other movements in church music history with this same revolutionary mentality, but probably never before which resulted in the level of destruction of local church communities that was achieved by this current generation. It is true that all hymns were once contemporary, but it is not true that all hymns participated in a contemporary culture war.
I'm not addressing any specific criticisms people have concerning the nature of contemporary Christian music, just specifying that the word "contemporary" as used in the phrase Contemporary Christian Music connotes more than a date of publication. It also signifies that this movement is self-consciously hostile to church tradition.
In churches that use both styles, worship leaders are careful to include a proper mix of hymns and contemporary songs: hymns for the old people and contemporary songs for the young people. So even when a church embraces both, leaders do not conceive of the contemporary style as having continuity with the traditional style, and do not consider them to be serving the same people.

Did you know that the song " Because He Lives" was released in 1971 and was written by Bill and Gloria Gather?
It was "contemporary" music for the days they lived in, when some had said that "God-is-dead", they wrote a song that said "He Lives".
I never knew it was "contemporary" music because it was included in the Baptist hymnal.

@@SenseOfWonder2 It is not my position that hymns are for old people. If you ask a worship leader at a church with a blended service, they will most likely tell you that they do contemporary songs for the young people and hymns for the old people. I think it's a screwed up way of thinking, but I've heard it over and over again from many different people representing different churches.
"Because He Lives" was contemporary in the technical definition, but the Gaithers were faithful to the gospel hymn tradition that was handed down to them, so it was never part of the genre of "Contemporary Christian Music." Saying that both things are or were "contemporary" is not a meaningful claim because "contemporary" suggests different things in those different contexts. Saying that hymns were once contemporary misrepresents why people object to contemporary Christian music. It's an equivocation and a straw man.

I train music ministiers and teams full time. I lead music for churches every week. I understand the intention of Todd's rebuke here but I think the Biblical command to make melody and to sing will be eternally "relevant". A great music team will work to make the CONGREGATION the most important instrument. Let the people sing praise and glory unto God and to one another. Todd's videos use all the tricks and tools (nice lighting, fast edits, music, masterful copy) that the mega churches use. It's compelling. He knows the game. To get the message out to the context he is serving, you gotta serve the moment. Todd could of told us the point of this video is 8 seconds but he used video, music, and EMOTION (the horror!) to engage us for over 7 minutes. At that point he passed the plate and we all watched the commerical (which was great btw!). I am 100% ok with Todd using the tools. I do hold the Church to a higher and more nuanced standard in regards to how they use the tools, but I think it would be good for Todd and the rest of the worship police to use a wee bit of humilty and self awareness when rebuking the church. I literally came to faith playing bass alongside the hymns of a little PCA church. The gospel and grace of God was weaved into all those hymns and praise choruses (again, the horror!).

Using music and helping people connect with their emotions helps them realize their need for God so they are more receptive. Also there is nothing wrong with extended times of praise and prayer. My background was playing drums in rock bands. At that time , it was in the mid-seventies. God steered me to a small little church where they sang the very biblically-based hymns of the 1800s and early 1900s. And this was all done in acapella with no musical instruments. The preaching was extremely biblically based in the apostles Doctrine. This is how the Lord reached my heart and changed my being to an outlook into the things of Christ. Today's praise bands , the way the music is laid out, and the way the church is laid out is a giant joke. I would have taken the gospel of Christ as a grain of salt the way these churches are laid out today with their so-called music Ministry that's nothing but entertainment, in the watering down of the Word of God with people in the praise band who think they're rock stars. Apparently a few members of the congregation have told him they prefer hymns accompanied by piano and organ. Just last week, we sat through another reprimand; he defended modern songs by saying they're not ABOUT God, like hymns traditionally are, but sung TO God. That may be...but several churchgoing friends and I feel the tone of contemporary Christian music is more "I'M SO GREAT! I'M SO STRONG! LOOK AT ME- I'M THE BEST!!! Here’s the Christian’s rule for music, as far as styles:
“If I like it, then GOD likes it.”
“If I DON’T like it, then GOD doesn’t like it!!”
I remember before I got saved in 1982, a friend of mine had a Phil Keaggy tape with a song called “Father Time.” Musically, it was something I loved, but lyrically, I avoided it because it convicted me that I wasn’t living for the Lord, and what the consequences of that, would be. Needless to say, after I got saved and gave my life over to Jesus, I couldn’t get enough of that song. Don’t think that even praise and worship lyrics can’t be convicting. They can. That’s why unsaved people would rather listen to Bruno Mars, than Chris Tomlin. I’m a musician, by the way, but I firmly believe that NOTHING should supplant the preaching of the Word. But to totally dismiss music is just as wrong as not preaching the Word.

As a Roman Catholic I can agree that there must be understanding of Christ’s teachings: it is an orthodox faith where young people are instructed in Catechism and live a Christian lifestyle from early on within the context of family tradition.

Well, my perspective is the opposite.
I hear preaching and teaching online all week. But listening to worship music by myself is not the same as worshipping together with other believers.
So I think coming for the worship is not bad. Worship and teaching are both very important. Lights, guitar, fog is not important, but the worship itself is important. Better question, if you are in worship and the power goes out, can you keep on signing like there's no problem.

Worship has nothing to do with being with other believers. Worship is between you and God, and it’s all based on your heart, not your emotions first.
You don’t go to a church building to worship. Worship should’ve started before you ever entered a building. It should’ve been while you were alone. Pray without ceasing? Worship is the same.
Pretty clear about in the Bible. Unfortunately my friend, I think it’s worth a reexamination for you.

@@eldiablort1461 It's very true that all of life can be lived with a worshipful heart. That is a good perspective and a wonderful thing to strive for.
It's also true that God's people have worshiped together in song, throughout all of history from the time of David until now. We are told to sing spiritual songs with one another in the new testament and in the old testament... well golly, the whole Psalms have musical notation to them. The musical quality may not have carried over from Hebrew to English.
A continuous heart posture of worship is a very Godly and scriptural idea. But so is worshiping together. Please hesitate before assuming that another believer's walk with the Lord is invalid.

Calvinists are some of the most joyless believers I have ever encountered. While I can go along with things like The Shack being outright heresy, there isn’t much else you listed that is inherently wrong or unbiblical from a general, historically-orthodox perspective. Guess I don’t expect much joy or latitude from people who believe in a God who condemned people to hell in eternity past, simply “because he’s sovereign.”

It’s taking place with other ideas and ideologies today. So why not wirh Christianity too. Especially since there’s these large crowds of young people and there’s music to add to the emotional, aspect of the revival.

A lot of church events and assemblies are based on emotion and music, or emotion and whatever pet doctrine that church denomination professes. A lot of what we call belief, as pertains to church attendance, is emotion. I've seen it with evangelicals, and seen it with Catholics as well.

The music at churches is the entire reason I don’t go to church. If there was a church that preached the gospel and taught the word I would be there in a heartbeat. You are absolutely right- it’s like I’m allergic to the “emotional Christianity” and I cannot do it. Where are the people like you leading a church? It seems nobody understands this, they just treat me as if I’m on a slippery slope not worshiping at church when I spend as much time of not more with God.

While well meaning this guy is off on a different group every broadcast. Maybe he should just stick to what works for him and not criticize everyone else. God uses many people and many different methods to reach people. God created music and it has a real place in worship. Jews danced. Chanted, Sang. I really doubt that any preacher would win many to Jesus if he presented himself as this fellow presents himself.
