Make your axle cut a 45-degree angle, weld and sleeve it. It's also good to have the sleeve ends cut at an angle or fish mouth. With a 90-degree cut the axle doesn't have near the shear strength.

The club i joined in 1982, at 23 years old, in, LA, SoCal, CA, which was a large chain of facilities, called "Holiday Spa" had, distinctly separate men's and women's workout, equipment, lock room, showers, steam room areas. the only joint area was the pool, dry sauna, and track area above. The men's area had men workers, and the women had women workers. Simple. Period. Also, within most all professional sports, competition, men and women are separate, along with trainers, coaches and such, though there are a few woman coaches of men within professional tennis; perhaps some other sports too. There are and have been many male coaches within female competition. Certainly some physical male and female therapists work with both males and females. Good Luck
