At the start of this year we moved into a property with a buddleia towering over 16 foot high! It was really neglected and we had no idea what colour it would be, we assummed purple. So after cutting it down and some TLC we were wonderfully surprised by a giant bush of crisp white flowers! It spans 6 foot wide and high, and is oh so healthy now, it's lovely.
Excited to take some cutting using this method!
Just potted 3 white and 3 purple... thanks for these helpful tips and info.. 1st time I've ever potted anything.
Thanks for the detailed and helpful tips mate - I now have a few healthy plants growing happily! I love buddlejas as they remind me of my grandma’s garden ☺️
What an informative video, the gentleman presenting seems so lovely too!
Excellent video. It's great you provide all the explanations unlike others who just clip from the plant and don't explain and show what to properly cut.
Just went to buy another couple of cheap buddleija from the shops, but nothing around. I was looking at the buddleija I already have growing and thought about cuttings and looked into UA-cam and found this video. It’s very good to see how easy it is to take cuttings and to be honest the plants I was looking to buy wouldn’t be much bigger. Great to know I can get so many plants for nothing.
Cheers and thanks for the video.
I put cuttings in pots last fall. They didn't root but they did take a nap during winter. Took them inside two weeks ago and the small leaves/buds are now slowly getting bigger. Will be interesting to see if it's just the energy left in the stems or if roots will appear. Good video and I've never thought of your hack when you cut the leaves to a smaller size. Actually sounds very logical!
Great video and we managed to take a load of cuttings from our old leggy plant which are growing nicely... aim to plant them next year
Thank you for video, I've been wondering how to take cuttings. There is a wild white buddleia growing down the road from me and I wanted to take a few cuttings from it and now I know how to 👍
Great video, I've not ventured into taking cuttings as yet, but I'll be following your instructions with a lovely Buddleia I have in the garden, the pollinators love it and I'd love more, my ex gave it to me and he'd be pleased that I'll be able to make more of them for the garden. Thanks again.
It's Dave Gorman! Thanks very useful
Just pinched a bit of this that was on the floor and cut down whilst walking my dog tonight! Am gonna grow it and you know it! 😉 Thanks to you 😊
That’s great, just what I wanted
This was so helpful. Thank you!
Glad I found this, my dad hated on the huge one we had in our previous home but now we don't have one we both really miss it so I need to get cuttings from my neighbours (dont worry I have permission, always ask if you're gonna take some cuttings :D )
Thank you very much for providing this, just what I was looking for.
Thanks for that. My buddleia has just died, I knew it was a bit dodgy since the winter and I've just had the most brilliant display which really surprised me. But 2 days it looked very sad and then yesterday it's fallen over and the trunk has broken. The leaves are still looking fine so I thought I'd take cuttings as I do love the plant.
Definitely grab a few cuttings and then hopefully your beautiful buddleia can live on. :D
Thanks for the video.i really love the buddleia.
This was truly helpful. Thank you so much.
Great video, thank you.
Very informative and clear video, thank you :)
A great video - thank you!
Great video, very helpful, and hopefully will get a plant from the stem of a fragrant white buddleia a friend gave me today!
Going to do this, i love the smell of Buddleie. Thanks 👍
Thank You a lot Man, this was a very easy to follow and informative video with a lovely host ☺️🤘 Cheers 🥳☘️

Thanks for the great information now I just have to do it
Brilliant. Thanks!
Thank you,Sir ! Respect !
Thanks, good information!
Thank you explained very good
It'd be nice if you could have a video showing you planting those cuttings & growth progression...
Mine just went all floppy and a bit rubbish 😢
Just taken some cuttings and followed your advice (minus the powder as don't have any to hand). Hopefully they'll work! Very much a beginner but huge wild buddleia grow on my estate and I look at it with envy every year, so thought id go for it......
Very good video. Need to fill a gap quickly so this should be good.
Thank you, so doing this for #30days wild
Thank you so much! I thoroughly enjoyed this vid. Am going to cut from my friend's beautiful butterfly bush tomorrow...so fingers crossed!! 😃🌱
Very helpful, can I take cuttings from buddleia from the wild ?
No I never think "why the hell someone would do a buddleia cutting," I just want you to tell us how to do it.
My advise: the energy goes to the old flowers to make seeds, when you cut of the old flowers, then wait an hour before you make the cuttings, so the plant can get more power for making roots.
The deep purple color is most attractive for butterflies.
Thank you for cutting info, great. Apparently white buddleia don't attract butterflies?
Greetings, Took some Buddleia cuttings both Flower power Bicolour and Goblosa (using your advice) and (surprise) they've all taken. However I took loads and put them into one 8 inch pot - needless to say the growth has been quite vigorous. In view of this, I want to make sure that they all get really good root growth before move them to more suitable locations. It's now coming to the End of September, so could I leave them in this pot to over winter - will they be okay? Would very much appreciate your advice.
When do you transfer them from the pot into the ground? How do you know when they are ready please?
❤
Hi. Thanks for this. Do you think that the mini Buddlieia species will come true via cuttings?
Do you just use ordinary potting compost or add more sand / perlite etc. ?
This is so helpful, thank you. One question. When can you plant them in the garden.
Plant _them_ after you’ve taken cuttings.
If I take a lot of cuttings and plant in one spot in the garden, once shoots appear in spring can I separate them to where I want to permanently leave them?🤔😎
We had a big failure too oops, I had a winter flowering one and a red one, and a hybrid moon one ... I'll try again but apparently these varieties are harder to get to root.
+Alice Oh, those varieties sound fabulous!
Where did you find that size rooting powder for £1.99?
Does it matter what time of year you take cuttings?
As a rule your procedure works , but quite recently I had a failure with BB cuttings. I have taken cuttings for many years and was surprised these turned black and failed . Im guessing by sticking the stems in the rooting powder may have been the culprit as it may have been contaminated. Or possibly they became too wet, but Im going with former thought and try again with the bbush cuttings.
Sorry to hear that. I had the same, actually. One set of cuttings just didn't take at all this year. And then I took another a few months later and every one of them took. Weird!
Can I plant it to the soil right away after cutting?
Tried growing budlia from seed but all I get is a plant 8 inches high with small yellow flowers ?
Good info there, is it important to sterilize the cutting tool with alcohol or something to avoid infecting the cuttings/plants with bacteria?
Sterlising isn't necessary as you could also remove good bacteria. It's worthwhile using a rooting powder to speed up the process, however, as this helps the cutting make roots quickly before any bacteria can attack.
Do you leave them in shade or sun?
I'm a beginner. What kind of soil do you use to plant the Buddleia?
Hi! I just use a multipurpose compost for buddleia and the cuttings too.
PS. How far away from my fence do I need to plant them please?
Glad you've got some!! I would plant about a foot away minimum. Might seem excessive to start with but after a few years they'll really be quite large and you don't want the trunk and shallow roots damaging fencing etc.
Brimwood Farm Thanks very much. It’s 32 degrees at the moment tho, so I might wait a few days!!!!
I would. Same here... I'm melting!
I tried doing cuttings years ago and it was a total disaster haha. Forgive me for asking what may seem a stupid question to the experts like yourself sir but as they are such tough plants, I wondered if you can propagate them by layering?
Blessings and peace
Try air layering. ua-cam.com/video/1OvVjHC2JV0/v-deo.html
Dude that cat at 2.25 looks THIN
She was. She had kidney failure at this point and was on meds :(
that plant looks dead
Too much chatter!
I started with woodglut plans.
