Cool that he kept the take with the mistake in it. It's great for aspiring bassists like myself to see that professionals aren't perfect and mistakes will happen. Much respect.
I am 50. I have 6 kids. I just picked up a Rogue bass at a garage sale for $20. We did the whole sports thing with the older kids and are trying the music trail now. I have been playing around with this bass for a couple weeks now. I have only been to 2 concerts in my life. BOTH Godsmack. I was stoked to see Robbie doing this!! He is very engaging with the fans during the shows. It is no surprise to me that he is doing this! GREAT guy!!!!!!Thanks Robbie!!
A Spector bass is the key to this tone. I tried just about every effect, amp, preamp that I could find, and I could never nail this tone. Then I bought a Spector Euro, and I nailed it. Just my bass straight into an amp head and a 4x12 cab. Boost the low mids, and you're golden.
Lammchop93 I don't know what it is about Spector (especially the Euro model) but I've yet to hear a bass that could come close to the clarity, attack, bottom, and tone of a Spector! Simply the best bass guitar money can buy!
Absolutely they do, they give it a "scratchy" pick feel..actually not a bad idea, best of both worlds. I'll give it a shot because I don't use a pick but would be interesting to see what that is like.
icredible.that he learned to play that way! even more respect. his left hand is doing ALOT of action. but i swear i hear more to this baseline than meets the eye[on the video]. i've listened to the recording and i enjoy playing this on a 5string. and a played a complete different way, the last 1/4 measure on a normal bass. its a great bassline with an awsome hypnotizing hook. fun to play!
gametrainBRO i don't say it's needless. i just say that you know most of bass players are strange. a normal man will never choose the bass as his main instrument. guitars give more ways to express and create.

Rogue bases are surprisingly amazing
Reading in 2022! I hope you are still playing that bass!

Do those tips on his plucking fingers have any effect on the sound?

+bflo1000 a used Spector legend is affordable and does a great job of getting that Spector tone.

It's awesome how he can play even if he can't move the middle finger, well done Robbie
Love the BAWston accent. Totally unexpected. 🤘
Nice! How are you getting that tone? Going thru SVT?
I get that tone using a rackmount Sans amp rbi model with an 382i bbe sonic maximize, compressor, 2 DC-300 crown amps...old amps that kick ass...
There has to be a reason you don't use your pinkie for the turn on the riff..is it the slide that you want?
Robbie Marill
does anyone know what finger picks he uses?
Badass!
what finger picks are those?
They are "banjo" finger picks.
Seven trolls disliked this. I hope they stay under the bridge where they came from. This video is fucking dope.
Warwick boy don't like this
simple but killer
What tuning is this?
Drop D, he said it
awesome thanks!
How do you get those finger picks to stay on your fingers? they wont stay on mine. :(
his are probably custom made
So cool
3:55 that smile. cool :D
Robbie's a BMF!! (still)
10x
awsome! new respect! and he plays with his fingers too! in a weird way!
His left middle finger doesn't work. I've heard it from birth but I'm not sure of the specifics.

Yes that is correct, he is actually right handed, learned this was because of his birth defect. That’s determination
WTF that finger looks broken
More like stole the riff from Filter - Hey Man Nice Shot, lol. But I do love this song.
Lol are you kidding me? It's totally different. Do you actually play bass?
I do, and this tabs are not the same as Hey Man Nice Shot.
I mean, it is the same frets and same notes, but the rythmn is totally different, and bass is all about rythmn.
playing bass is boring and dull. it makes no difference how good you are, noone hears you behind the guitar and drums.
It's not like the guitar is awesome in this song too ..
And listen to some Megadeth or Iron Maiden and you'll see if we hear the bass or not ;)

Miguel Sykes
guitar has solos, variety of sounds. and bass is only bom bom bom
*****
Actually I do. There are people who play on the tambourine, but it dosn't make the tambourine a good instrument to play.
Close minded people , useless to talk with :)
