      You can't write off Durst either. No, he wasn't talented as a rapper (God, no.) or as a singer, but lets not forget the entire band was his idea. And this was back when rap metal was an almost a completely foreign concept to most people. He was also a good enough judge of talent to put that group together and astute enough to realize the time was perfect for a hip hop/metal fusion. If he'd had half the lyrical talent Zach De La Rocha had, Limp Bizkit would have had even more staying power than Rage had. They probably would have had a better name, too.

    You cannot call Limp Bizkit terrible. Fred Durst headed that band better than anyone else ever could. He is the heart and soul. Wes is a fantastic guitarist and they fit together and it works. That's what matters. It's like people who say Anthony Kiedus can't sing. But his voice is the heart and soul of RHCP and can't be replaced. Back in the day when people wrote and read blogs, someone said the same thing about Wes Borland, and Wes actually emailed the guy back, and said that he was wrong. He said that Fred was an essential part of the Limp Bizkit sound, and that it just didn't work without Durst. This was after Wes had done a bunch of solo/side projects, so I'm just guessing that he has tried to do the "Limp Bizkit, but without Fred Durst" thing. It's the same with DLR and Van Halen, Van Hagar was honestly good, but it just wasn't the same without DLR.

      (Long text) Really? Most people I know talk more about Frusciante than any other member, even in early 2000s Flea thought Frusciante was overshadowing him, he even tried to leave the band (but at the end John did) and even in the Josh era, everyone just ask to bring back Frusciante and many didn’t accept Josh. However I understand why, Frusciante is a killing machine with his guitar. I don’t think he is underrated as most RHCP fans are very aware of his guitar, composition and backing vocals skills, some of them even became toxic towards Josh. Well at the end Frusciante is back, however I feel kinda bad for Josh because even he was a great guitarist he had to fill some huge shoes.

    I got to meet Mushok through their manager (in the mid-00's, there was an A&R guy who managed PR for Staind, Cold, Jimmy's Chicken Shack, and a few others; he was showing me the ropes when I put out an EP in '09), and while Aaron refused to talk to me, Mike was ecstatic! We talked about musical influences, new bands we loved at the time, like Karnivool and Fair to Midland and he was just so excited. Like a puppy. Showed me his gear and gave cool anecdotal stories behind certain guitars he had and why he was such a die-hard fan of Dean Markely strings.

      And RIGHT??? Fair to Midland were insultingly underrated. And it is a shame that we only got a few EP's and two LP's out of them before they split. Darroh ended up getting married and started a family. The reality was that they were as broke as when they started and they were struggling to keep the band together, let alone get secure touring schedules down. It really sucks that they never got the recognition they deserved, even with Serj Tankian's help.
      Darroh released some solo material on Bandcamp and Myspace but after that, FtM kinda just ended, around 2013 officially.

    Tremonti is one of my favorite guitarists however people often get Creed wrong. Stapp is obviously the weakest link but not because he's a bad singer. I'd say he's an above average rock singer, he just has a cheesy wacky personality and often cheesy lyrics. However those wet blanket ballads that Creed sometimes has are written by Tremonti. He wrote all the music in that band. Stapp does the lyrics and Tremonti does the music, so Mark is half to blame for the sometimes cheesy sound of the band. Even Alterbridge still has some wet blanket ballads but Myles Kennedy seems better on the delivery. Obviously Mark is a top notch musician along with Scott Phillips and Brian Marshall. Alterbridge is a power house and those guys skill is unquestionable.

    • @eddiekalista3222
      @eddiekalista3222 3 роки тому +2

      Yeah, Creed gets some unfair static. I think what makes it worse is that if Stapp could have had some subtlety and wit in his lyrics, or maybe if he wrote something other than “god gives me the power to stand in front of industrial workshop fans”, they wouldn’t be hated on as much. Stapp is a 1 trick pony in his lyrics, and by Weathered, everyone was wise to it.
      You can even take any of their songs in isolation, and it’s a solid B for music and vocal talent, and the lyrics are a little cheesy, but not terrible. But when the lyrics of every song feel like a kid changing the wording of last years essay, it really ruins the facade.

    • @scottricci5063
      @scottricci5063 2 роки тому +1

      Stapp's lyrics aren't cheesy, they come from a place inside of his personal affects like so many other singers; Layne Staley, Chris Cornell and Aaron Lewis. A brilliant and phenomenal singer who has worked with the Metal genre's top guitarists who writes some of the most cheesiest generic lyrics is Tim Owens. Ripper is the best out there vocally, including his predecessor in Judas Priest, but not so much lyrically. But he sells it well with his abilities. My point being can't judge books by their covers, literally!🤘👹🤘

      Not really. Bon Jovi are still quite good. Well, were great until 10 years ago, John is old now and has lost his voice. But they were one of the greatest hair metal bands. Def Leppard also were quite good. Twisted Sister not that much, but still had some talent and we'll never forget what Dee Snyder did for the music at all. Although Eddie Ojeda is truly the band's selling point. Some hair metal bands also managed to adapt to some new times to make themselves stand out like Pantera did after replacing Terry Glaze with Phil Anselmo. Hair Metal wasn't that bad. It just... Surprised Jacky Vincent didn't get mentioned from when he was in Falling In Reverse. He went solo in 2013 and started putting out some stellar neo-classical shred music, along with forming a power metal band called Cry Venom.

    Wes Borland ALSO deserves a band with aesthetic flair enough that he doesn't have to look like the art student with a major in SFX makeup who didn't have time to change out of his thesis project before band practice.

      ALSO, this is way after the fact but someone else just crossed my mind: Joe Trohman of Fall Out Boy. He's not a virtuoso, but he's waaay better than comeback-era FOB deserves, just put any song from Take This To Your Grave next to...anything after Infinity on High, it's night and day.
      He still gets to unleash his metal/hardcore skills in side projects but it still feels like such a waste. But pop rock pays the bills I guess.

    Some good shredder might solo the heavens a part but is that all we look for? Every town has a band with a great musician stuck playing with subpar band mates out of comfort or availability. It's not that they couldn't technically play with better players, is that they might be incapable of getting along with other band mates - I think that is underappreciated thing of what makes a good band mate or a player.

    My introduction properly to metal was bands like falling in reverse and black veil brides and asking alexandria and soon after that attila. Now I still have a special place for the first 3 bands even if I don't listen to them much but when I look to attilas songs that I used to listen to I chuckle to myself like what was I thinking 😂

    Nuno Bettencourt. He’s an incredible guitarist, but Extreme, mostly Gary Cherone, were not so amazing as a whole.

    • @bobthebear1246
      @bobthebear1246 3 роки тому +15

      See, I disagree. Cherone definitely was the wrong choice for Van Halen, but with Extreme he was great. There wasn't a bad song on *Extreme II Pornograffiti* and Cherone's singing was great. I'd agree that each album was major diminishing returns, though.
