Great lesson Michael, and beautiful playing at the end of the lesson. Could you please do a video advising what scales I could use over a 145 12 bar shuffle in Cmajor, and what effect/mood they would typically create. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Great video. One of the most simple and probably practical explanations of Dorian. If you can make similar videos on the rest of the modes - it'll be fantastic.
When you went from Am7 to the Bm7 it sounded great, but shouldn’t the 2 be diminished? Why does the Bm7 work? Just trying to wrap my head around it. Thanks
A Dorian is G major scale because A is the second from G and Dorian is the second of the modes. When you start playing A Dorian you have to think; in which major scale is A the second degree. It's G major scale; A comes after G, so A is the second degree and B is the third degree, and in G major scale the third degree is always minor, so in A Dorian, which is G major scale, the third is B and it's minor. A Dorian is playing G major scale but now A is the root.
@Michael Palmisano: FINALLY I got/understood the modes thing!!! 15 years!!! 15 years I've known the scales, known the modes, but never understood how to use them. THANKS!!!
Brother your concept is by far the best in regard to Dorian mode. I love it so much..
God bless you!!!
You are a wonderful teacher
Thanks for watching! What would you like to see in my next video?
Crabcakes and football 🤘
Rock On.
@@brandon.4451 OK. Let me see how I can figure that one out!

Some bad notes in there.
Dude, it’s all subjective. He’s playing an expanded version of the Dorian scale
Basically think a G major scale… A minor is second chord in scale which is Dorian.
