    In Skyfall, Bond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost. -- (C) Official Site

    Daniel Craig is Ian Flemings James Bond - a "blunt instrument held together with pills and patriotism". Daniel Craig is not going to have supervillains and invisible cars. He's not that kind of actor.He won't do it unless the script, story and director are the best.Hats off to him for that.

    Without judging it with bond nostalgia-goggles, it definitely, one of the best bonds. No doubt about it.

    It's the Best Bond movie, End of story!
    Bond 24 is a Sequel to Skyfall, you guys know that. Dont start getting disappointed about this film, cause whatever what your issues about the film are in your opinion, it may appear in the Sequels!
    Which means that the movie is having 2 Sequels

      +J.A. Contes Agreed completely. This can not be the best Bond movie because it was NOT a Bond movie, it was a movie about M. It was not even a spy movie, it was a bloody Western. They also took one of the best villains ever (Javier Bardem) and made him into a caricature.

      Yep, it would have been a fine standalone action movie, but as a Bond movie is doesn't even qualify.

    I actually got the vibe that Bond was bi in this movie - there's a line where he says Bardem wouldn't be the first or something - anyone maybe know a little more and want to comment?

    *Spoiler*
    Saw it yesterday and it was good. Although one thing did bother me that I saw a few people commented on earlier. I wish Berenice (Severine) played a larger role. She was killed so soon! I was kind of hoping she was going to be a bad girl! She had such a cool character and appearance yet her role was only slightly larger than the extras in the background. Oh well, it was a good movie overall.
    PS) I think the true Bond girl here was M !! (she was awesome though)

    I didn't understand how the Aston Martin DB5 won in Casino Royale got modded with guns and ejector seat before there was a Q. It was his personal car and how did it get upgraded for Skyfall? Saw the movie already and it did a lot to shake off the formula of 50 years. Not sure it was the best Bond movie ever. Goldfinger/Casino Royale was best. The ending did throw me back to the classic Connery era. No threat to the world just personal vendetta by a disgruntled ex-employee.

  • @St4rdog
    @St4rdog 10 років тому +3

    The film was pretty poor. It's Bond by numbers and it needs a refresh with new writers.
    Bardem/Feinnes/Dench/Finney are good, but the story was too simple for them. There was nothing sharp about the plot. The villian can hack any computer system but can't listen to their radio transmissions to hear all of their plans? The parts involving computers were clearly written by old men who don't use them. The train part was laugh-out-loud funny because of a shit soap opera called Coronation Street (search YT for it). The entire intro was paint-by-numbers trash as was every "witty" conversation he had with Eve. Wasn't that motorbike sequence in one of the Brosnan movies?
    Anyway, this movie was totally average.

    Most people I know argue that Casino Royale was a bit dull, a good movie but it tethered on being drawn out and lacking in the true substance of what many fans were expecting from a Bond flick...Skyfall delivered a complete package, the evolution of the series introduced in Casino Royale but that true to form action feel most people walking into the theater want.

    Like any series this requires evolution, many movie series haven't wished to evolve in the slightest but then factor in that almost none have been here as long as Bond, and have certainly not had so much success for such an extensive period...much is due to changes, some welcome, some not, but thats the gripe with trying to move a franchise on, and it can't please everybody...I loved this movie, the best in a long long time, perhaps you'll have better luck next time around.

    Femme fatales rarely live long nowadays.
    M is the true-to-form old British bulldog, refusing to quit without fighting. That has been kind of her motif throughout Brosnen to Craig. I sort of laughed when they pointed it out through actual physical symbolism in the movie this time around.

  • @irferf
    @irferf 11 років тому

    I agree - although Skyfall moved back toward the classic Bond style of having the story revolve around a central villain, I feel like that realm has been better-executed by other recent films (Dark Knight, Joker kinda thing for ex). I was hoping for a more mature Bond story that puts the agent in some geopolitical crisis. It seemed like Casino and Quantum were tailoring Craig's Bond toward that niche but I was sorely disappointed. I felt like Skyfall was rather childish. And the new Q? WTF!

    Saw it in excellent Imax. Hated it. When we find out what is going on, why does Bond stay on their team? Isn't Bardem justified in getting revenge? And why did Bardem bother to attack in such a roundabout manner - why not attack her directly? And why is the most beautiful woman in the film killed five minutes after we see her??????

  • @alphacause

    Skyfall has to be one of the best Bond films ever. It has the best opening sequences. It has moving moral dilemmas - something most of the other Bond films lack. It shows Bond as more human, and not as this totally invincible and detached figure. It gives him a true background story, and unlike any Bond film before it, with the exception of Casino Royale, it really sets up a larger story that will extend far beyond this movie. I highly recommend Skyfall.

    What drove me nuts is how Silva goes to all sorts of trouble to be taken into custody and then escape (what was the point of that again?), all while exercising a preposterous level of foresight, and then when finally taking his revenge after years of anticipation, he brings... three other guys armed with 9 mm handguns. Perhaps an assault rifle or two would have guaranteed his success? Maybe a grenade?

    Did Matt Achity ever watch Casino Royale? It doesn't seem like it.
    I prefer Casino Royale - it was ground-breaking because it gave James Bond a heart instead of just being the slick, indestructible quipper-snapper he'd always been. I also love Eva Green - she really tugged at the heartstrings in CR.
    But Skyfall was excellent too, in large part because of Javier Bardem. His portrayal as this vengeful, effeminate weirdo was just outstanding. As a villain, he'll be remembered for a long time.

    Oh, I got you confused with the guy who was talking to you in that initial exchange. Okay, so change number of maple leaves used to rate syrup to number of four-leaf clovers used to rate potatoes. The four-star system is a little more common here than five stars, but sometimes they don't use stars. It's up to the reviewer. Honestly, it's not something that anyone normal really sits around contemplating. It's not like we've ever tried to adhere to others' measurement systems. Metric, anyone?

    skyfall was ok but Bond got away too easily and the enemy basically won 2-3 times but let it slip carelessly every time; however how he got the upper hand in the first place was through unmatchable wit, skill and intelligence, all of that became redundant when it came time for him to kill, and eventually he got killed.

    i wouldn't go so far as hate but i agree mostly, i think the problem with berden's motivation is basically this is a bond movie stuck in the jason bourne body. In a traditional bond movie the evil guy does stupid crap and it's acceptable because it's fun, but now this is a serious spy flick you expect a bit more logic and it fails. The woman is a casualty of the seriousness of the movie as well. The take on gadgets was quite telling. Good looking movie tho, just was underwhelmed.

  • @LHswe

    You would be justified in saying that if it weren't for the fact that the epicenter of the movie industry is here. However, since that is the case, I think we are in our rights to decide the appropriate systems by which to signify a movie's quality. Certainly, if I were ever to make a career of reviewing various brands of syrups, I would first be sure to research how many, say, maple leaves are typically assigned to the highest-quality products in your country instead of assuming I know best.

    Well, much like birds, these systems took millenia to evolve, but I can tell you that it is very, very common for film and music critics to rate releases out of four stars. I've been around for three decades, and it's never more surprising to see something rated out of four stars than out of five. In fact, in print reviews, Roger Ebert has always rated movies out of four stars. Many modern movie critics consider him (along with Siskel) to have set the standard for what a movie critic should be.

    Yes, a franchise must make changes to stay fresh and timely as it maintains the elements at it's core.
    I'd say the Bond film series mirrored the optimism and can-do spirit of the post war generation. Skyfall veers into Gen-X nihilism.
    In all three films, Craig's Bond seems angry and burnt out. Not so other Bonds. Especially in the novels, Bond likes and pursues women, relishes the details of every meal, every drink and seems to enjoy himself.

    It's NOT one of the best Bond's ever, sorry. The timeline, for starters, makes no sense. Bond was a rookie in the first two Craig's and now he's ready to retire? They couldn't have skipped past the other movies 'cause Moneypenny was just introduced. Also, even as cool as the villian was, it made no sense. He plans things when he couldn't possibly know how it was going to play out. It's a decent Bond but it's not, I repeat NOT, one of the best Bond's ever...

    • @Mutyi80

      I couldnt agree with you more. And also it isnt the only Bond movie , that had spoilers. It just isnt. Example for that: Casino Royal had definately a huge spoiler, if not a bigger one. And by the way I personly thought that was a way more compelling one in every way. These critics dont seem being aware of this movie's numerous flaws. This movie is definately a step in the wrong way, _not_ the best film in the series, like u said it.

      TheGore1021 No, he is right. The timelines dont make senses. And as a standalone movie it fails aswell, cause its trying so desperately to be dark and deep, but its just dull. And its biggest flaw is that its a complete ripoff of the dark knight. imo.

    • @TheGore1021
      @TheGore1021 10 років тому

      Mutyi80
      Nope I Disagree, It's because you guys didn't understand how the timelines go in the plot, I understood how the movie timelines were, Bond was trying to get tested to know if he knows what Skyfall was, and he just said Done because he has to search to remember what the meaning off Skyfall to have his memories back, What Skyfall was was it's the name of Bond's homeland in Scotland, The villain uses to be a Double-O agent but he got betrayed cause he wanted to get revenge on MI6. This movie was no Dark Knight ripoff story. So No
      The upcoming new Bond movies I'm saying are Sequels because the writer just improved that it's going to be a Built-up to what they did in Skyfall.

It's just Bond and M the whole time. The world is not being saved, it's just personal. I don't buy into the critic reviews that says this is the best ever Bond film. Are you seriously trying to place the Craig films among the Brosnan films? Casino Royale was a complete reboot dude.

    You have and entitles opinion but I think you're wrong, I think stylistically it is a bit of both worlds but then again bond films for the last decade, if not longer have been action flicks first and foremost and I think this one really tries to pull back on the reins a bit and drive the story while still delivering a fully fledged action.
    I think this is the most complete bond film ever made with the best of all worlds, unlike Quantum of Solace which was a bit all over without cohesiveness.

    I'd go as far to say QoS was a mess of a film. But yeah you're absolutely right, he's a decent enough lead but he's not James Bond.
