    Top 5 Poa management strategies:
    3 herbicides with efficacy ratings, 2 experimental herbicide mixes.
    Notes: Glyphosate is not that strong in controlling Poa, especially since the wide spread of development of gly resistant poa.
    Pre-emergents may be good, but still are not great in overall control.
    Get ready: renovation should be expected.

    Hey Matt! Ethofumesate, as you recommend to me last year, did a fantastic job on my POA Annua, and I thank you for that. I can tell because it is germinating like crazy in areas where I didn't spay. Prepping to put another app down this weekend. Thanks for all you do for us.

    my strategy for triv is to pull it by hand in the spring; occasionally i use glysophate, but i always plug the spots afterwards. the war never ends but there comes a point where you get it under control and it is minimal maintenance every spring. for annua i find pre-m works well to control it but i do pull it when that fails. it helps having KBG and feeding it in small doses a few times a month to encourage the spreading which does crowd out the poa very well. if you are infested i would go full blown reno unfortunately...and that is best done in the spring which makes it even a tougher proposition...:( awesome video matt!

    A product that I have had pretty good luck on poa annua is called Proxy. I prevents the plant from creating seed heads, thus significantly slowing the spread. I typically tank mix it with tenacity to ding the plant. This mix has shown decent results controlling poa annua, but it's an ongoing battle.

    thanks for the video. I got lots of POA Annua and possibly Trivialis as well as I had lots of light green spots. Plan was to NOT seed this fall, instead use pre-emergent to prevent POA seeds germinating this winter. Well, I have lots of dead spots on the lawn possibly from POA dying (specifically in very sunny spots). Really want to put down good quality seed this fall after aerating. Maybe a faster way is to kill entire spots where I see POA and overseed in fall or some POA seeds will still be out there and germinate, thus, skip fall seeding and just deal with fall pre-emergent? Also, some spots in shade still have the POA live and well, so should I kill them? thanks.

    Matt, you hit on something I’d like clarify for us cool season guys.
    If our yard is a recent renovation which contains POA annua, and it’s still a bit thin, should we prioritize over seeding in the fall, or getting a pre emergent down?

    Can you please tell me the quantities of tenacity and ethofumesate to apply in the fall when re-seeding, and the number and timing of applications. What about in the spring? Amount, timing? I’m in Western North Carolina. Last fall we applied tenacity when we re-seeded, and we’re stunned by how much poa annua there is in the lawn now.

    Hey Matt. Have you heard of anyone using Acclaim Extra Selective Herbicide? DoMyOwn.com suggested it to me for post emergent control of poa triv 0.3-0.46 fluid oz/1 gallon of water for spot spraying. It does have it listed on the label for controlling grass weeds. Just wanted to see if you have any experience or know anyone that had a positive experience with it. It's a little too late for me to probably test it out now as my temps are going to get into the 80's here in the next week. I have a combo of TTTF/KBG/rye.

    When mowing properties with poannua. Are you carrying the seed to other properties? Will it continue to reproduce when mulching and going from one house to another.

    What about cultural practices? Does allowing your lawn to go dormant kill off poa annua? I’m assuming you’d need to go dormant plus use pre emergent in the fall.

    • @TheGrassFactor
      @TheGrassFactor  3 роки тому +1

      Letting your lawn go dormant might kill POA annual, might, but does not effect Poa triv. Poa triv goes dormant just like your lawn, and comes back better than your lawn.
