I'm pretty sure with the new update, they shadow patched the rooster glitch in the hanger.
If you use the gun mounted on the dinghy and don’t think you have the 5 kills, you can call in your Mk2 or Sparrow and fly back through the canyon to get some more kills.
Or just don't use that gun in the first place.

How many extra packages were there to get under water?
