    You should make those and sell them by the six-pack. Call them "Ice Grenades".

    Clever idea, I live in Florida so I don't have to worry about snow, but when I retire I plan on moving to the mountains. Thanks for the tip. Great video.

    We used to have this all over our home years ago, specially in the roof fascia, use to have a massive ice dam in the valley, brought all my gutter down as well. About 8 years ago, we designed a heating mat using a heating film technology, to solve and prevent ice dams and snow accumulation. It would be something where you would only need to climb on the ladder to install the mat and leave for the entire year. I saw your address, can I send one of our products to you? Thanks for the time making this video and helping others as well.

    I did this kind of stuff for a few years and finally bought the heat wires made for roofs this past fall. Been working great this year. Didn’t go on the roof and the gutters stayed flowing.

      I'm going to try that for next year, especially on our office which was really bad last year. Thx

      @@Homesteadhow i only had to do it to some north facing roofs that don't get any sun. We have it just set on a thermostatic outlet so it goes on when its below 40.

    Does it seem to matter what type of nylon stockings are used? Can they be reused or are they too fragile for that? Should I just buy the cheapest I can get?

    Would it help to put the salt socks in the gutters to keep water from freezing up in them and building up under the shingles?

      @allaboutroofing2 3 роки тому +1

      Not in my experience. Heat wire is much more effective. Usually only needed on north facing gutters or where sunlight is blocked.

    Dear God, as a roofer please don't do anything shown here. A metal edge shovel on a roof is is huge no no. Also the ice melt will destroy your roof and gutters. Use a foam snow rake and no chemicals.

      I agree. Better attic insulation, and ice damn heat wire would help a bunch.

      Point taken, looking into heat wire for next year. Was in a pinch though this time and was losing sleep worrying about water backing up into the house and onto my computer and office

      @@Homesteadhow it's pretty cheap, easy to install and has a thermostat to turn itself on and off as needed. Home depot or lowes usually has them. Good luck.

      I use a normal shovel on my roof as the snow is so deep I never get to the shingles anyway. The snow is Insanely dense and heavy, not sure a foam shovel will work where I am at..

  • @lovetrain442
    @lovetrain442 Рік тому

    When you clean off the snow you want to go from top to bottom not bottom to top. Will destroy the shingles.

    Wouldn't it have worked better had those than place on the roof prior to it snowing?? And less dangerous for being Up on the Roof
