    Structure Map Tip
    If you are using a HDS Gen3 unit and doing structure mapping make sure your file save type is set to SL2 not the default file save type of SL3 (if you are using a Totalscan transducer). If you save your files as SL3 with the Totalscan transducer it will not save properly and you will only get garbage output.

      First, thanks for taking the time to read my comment and reply.
      This is where I found out the missing piece of the puzzle that no one else talked about and explained how to properly log sonar on my Lowrance HDS7gen3 unit (i.e. save as SL2 instead of the default SL3) utilizing my Totalscan transducer. It now works perfectly.

      I really like the Elite Ti2 units myself. I think those are one of the best units Lowrance has ever made. They can do almost as much as the HDS units.

  • @ifishcatfish

    Good points. I think the fish arches of lowrance are artificially exaggerated by the software. They are always so long and perfect in lowrance. But in real world i think it is impossible to find such sonar returns. Humminbird and Garmin fish arches are always more dotty and scattered but in my opinion more real. Have u noticed that?

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  4 роки тому +2

      Yes for sure I've noticed that! I don't know for sure... But based on my understanding of sonar the Lowrance is showing the most information, while the others are taking it some of the information and only showing you the main part of the arch. Basically, Lowrance shows all the sonar returns while the others only show what they think you want (the strongest signals). There are advantages to doing it either way but I prefer the Lowrance arches over the others.
      I've really noticed it on Humminbird and older Garmin products. The newer Garmin's don't really do it as much anymore.
      I've got a new video series coming out soon that I'm working on that will explain this in more detail.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish 4 роки тому

      After 6 months with livescope and seeing the reality underwater i am inclined to believe that humminbird returns are more real

      Fish arc shows well how wide is ducer cone. Wider arcs, wider sonar cone. And speed over objects can reduce arcs......

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  4 роки тому

      Both are accurate, just displayed differently. Humminbird probably shows you the least amount of info, but that can make it easier to understand because the info they are showing is the really important stuff.

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  4 роки тому

      Yes! Lowrance shows you the full arch so that is why they are longer and more defined.

    I am in need of a fishfinder to fish from 1000 feed down to 7 meters deep water.
    I upnto see the fish clearly at al time when using the 2D and down scan..
    I would like a down scan that shows clear image and that i can zoom the image also.
    What are the two frequency of the lowrance and what are the power of the sounder ?
    Remember i am a al aroud firsherman ready ro restart ?
    A seven inch will be enough for me..
    What brand what model and why ?

    Just bought an elite Ti2 9. Waiting to come in still. If this unit does what they say it will, with a AI 3in1 transducer, I will be trading my hds gen3 units in on another elite Ti2 12

      This video will help you with deciding on what to buy ua-cam.com/video/sdt8tf9TmYk/v-deo.html
      As far as maps go to Navionics.com and look at their chart viewer. Generally they are the best for North America, but if you can go to a store to see the maps in other brands demo'd that helps too

    What the heck are they doing???!!?! Still stuck at .8mhz, they are a disgrace.
    If I were them, I’d either license garmins panoptics and or innovate with castable sonar bulbs to achieve “Under Cover View” with triangulation.
    But they MUST get 2.7mhz sonar, at the very least.
    If garmin made a kayak troller I’d dump my HDS Live, but I have a motorguide...so I’m stuck. But I desperately want a full garmin 12” gpsmap setup with the 54 transducer and lvs32 panoptics and an autopilot troller for my bluesky 360 pro.

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  4 роки тому

      They've decided to play with the transducer material to improve transmission rather than go with CHIRP on the SI & DI with their active imaging. It certainly is better than theory TotalScan, and probably the best single frequency Transducer out there.... But I agree with your. When your competition has CHIRP and mHz frequencies that offer better detail, you should too.
      They did licence Panoptic, but then Garmin came out with LiveScope. So they are still behind there.
      They've had Castables in the 90s. Called it a Float Dicer. 50' of cable. Worked on the older 192kHz units.
      Be interesting to see if somebody hours higher in frequency. Wonder if it even is possible to get to 2.7 mHz through water for a good signal.

    • @dtdionne
      @dtdionne 4 роки тому

      Lawren Wetzel I don’t recall castables as part of a larger “see through the structure and cover” visibility offering. Castables as stand-alone sonar bobbers, sure, but that’s not what I’m talking about here.
      The problem “everyone” faces with anything sound based (like sonar) is the friggin FCC. Sound travels better through water than it does air...and we’re not having any trouble pumping +100mhz modulation over 5+GHz carrier through the air...which is plain old Wi-Fi.
      I don’t need 1000’ of visibility, GIVE ME A FUKIN BREAK!!! I need ultra high resolution and multiple angles at 15 - 30’ depths...as do 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of all inland anglers. And fwiw, bnc coax AINT even remotely “cast-able”. Expendable wireless sonar bobbers that can be casted on 85lb maxcuatro braid and effortlessly reeled back in. Or if you really wanted to get saucy and reduce power requirements, use om3/4 glass (typical multi mode fiber optics). The possibilities are endless.

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  4 роки тому

      Yes so many possibilities. Triangulation of the sonar bulbs sounds good. Fiber optic can do that and make it easy.
