Damn, Sampson & Mendoza both lost that year, but both of them came back and WON, Sampson in 2009 and Mendoza 2012!!!!!!!!
I like Mendoza he's badass he's got some sick chops!
Ramon is such a great drummer! He made it to grand finals when he was 12 back in 2000. He kept coming back and won. Much respect:)
I respect him for his courage and his will to win, I'm just not into his style of playing, but don't get me wrong, he is pretty good, he's just not that good to me, meaning that I'm not really into his style of playing.
I always love when I see emotion coming out along with playing! Great performance!
He recovered from the stick drop extremely well. Better than I could have.
Only the final champion may not compete again. Example: Sherman Arnold has been to the finals the past 3-4 years.
this guy is one of the greatest i ever seen and i found him 2 days ago great job
my favourite performance ever
This kid is awesome, hope we hear more of him. Very musical solo development!
This guy is a prime example of a "whirling-dervish"!! Daaaaamn, 👍🙂
How good you are? Much respect.
As much as I love his 2009 video, I'm just as amazed with his chops in this one as well!!!
His 2009 vid was insane!
very nice congrats u play Awesome...
"ARCH ANGEL ON DRUMS PLEASE STAND BACK ! ! !"
Now light em' up Ramon.
if I was not watching this I would not have enough noticed the dropped stick. He is damn good
his whole solo made just smile at his creativity
That kid is truly gifted :-)....
I am really proud of this young man.
the difficult in the drum is the roll and the groove!!
im from memphis tn to bro wow small world
when octapad is not EVERYTHING!
right. I wish the octapad wasn't a part of the competition.
to anwer one of your questions, the jazz atm is where it should be, out of view of the popular music eye, and also I'm a fan of jazz, but I really don't know what you're complaining about :P these guys are brilliant!
Church is an ideal environment for musicians to be growing up in.
We won... on 2009 drum off!!!
This dude has serious chops 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
excellent groove!!!
Ha I was about to say....When did the brotha's learn how to drum? Amazing stuff.
haha....If this is boring, I dont know what WILL excite you.
Well done dude.Sorry bout d stick fallin but yuh rel mash up! Rel smooth! Keep it up and keep inspiring others like myself. Word!
I'm not sure he's "thinking" of the next thing to play. The dude's South African roots come out in nearly everything he plays. I'm a drummer here in Memphis, where Ramon resides, and there's 4 gospel/r&b drummers for every church in town, and the old saying in Memphis goes, there's more churches than gas stations... you get the idea... I think Ramon is extremely unique and rare in his style. If I sit and try not to analyze his playing from a technical point of view, I hear deep African roots.
Love it
I think i like this one even more than the solo that won it in 09. This is sick!
so true
His solo in 09 was incredible.
This one is better and tidy
This guy is bad-ass.
not really, there's a lot of other better drummers, like Carlos Mendoza, Damien Schmitt, and Luke Holland just to name a couple, maybe you should check them out.
And there's another really badass dude you need to check out, his name is Matt McGuire, he has his own UA-cam channel, actually the names I gave you, they all do.
also check out Matt Garstka, I have a whole slew of some sick ass drummers who I subscribed to, I can show you some drummers he wouldn't even come close to touching!
well you have to keep in mind that these guys only have three mins before they get into later rounds where they only have 5. soooo they really dont have time to do the crazy long chops and all of that because they are trying to show the judges all aspects of there drumming in 5 mins or less. Its not easy bro....these guys are great, all 5 of them, and they all deserve to win.
o cara é muito bom....
@DrummerZful yeah he did which is not bad cause jerome has chops
all you guys talking about people coming back and winning are living in a dream world. Once you make it this far, you can't enter again. Says so on the entry form
wow! nice shirt!
i love this kids drumming because it showy and it not all that rudimential crap
Wit is that the 7x13 ODCP maple snare? If so I'm getting it next week and if it sounds this good.....
Ramon is great he's quick and aggressive.. but I think Jerome had more control over the set... everything was a lot cleaner ... but all of them are Beasts!!! I hope to go far this year when i play...
Actually, the minimum age requirement is 16 and there IS no age limit!
ramone is pretty good, he looks really young, can you tell me how young he is?
I like his style and solo better than the winner - Jerome Flood II
he's probably like 19 now. i want to see ivan garcia come back to finals. he's sick but this guys will probably beat him out in districts. who's also equally sick.
I would have to disagree that he is unique. He's definitely amazing. But if you want I can point out the different parts in the video where he messes up.
jaja his funny!!! I like it!!!
Hey Ramon did you ever take drum lessons
I use the first tom a lot a lot too
I mean its the closest thing beside the hi hat
@jalenmichaelheggie where'd you get it??
anyone who says hes bad is just jealous cause u will never get close to what he can do
1:36 drops his stick, but amazing fast comeback, you owuldnt even know it. this must have been a close one for the judges,
he looks really young...
it's cause they're sick! and hard, and you have to be really smooth to play gospel chops like they do. i can guarantee no metal drummer with nothing but blasts beats and double kick will ever win this competition. gospel, jazz and latin take more fluid thinking and creativity.
fuck that was great. how old is that guy?
The chops are there, but being a devoted christian has nothing to do with how well someone plays an instrument. In fact, the only good thing about being a christian, are those 10 commandments, which are based on common sense and should be followed by everyone, everywhere, no matter if god is in the picture, or not. keep playing everyone, and be nice to each other! :-)
zomg i want that shirt!!!! >.
What exactly is musical about taking a drink of water during your solo?
did he lose to jerome flood during that time?
anyone knows what snare is that??
this dude has explosive chops..reminds me of chambers a bit
2:45 Sherman Arnold "Damn its gettin really hot in here... better take off my jacket"
I know he was 18 here.
Well, everyone has their own views. I consider it to be.
guitar players drop picks all the time, give the guy credit
Bad I'm not fussed I've got talent
i dont know why but i see thomas pridgen in this guy...
@decentdrummer911 dropping a stick isn't unprofessional... many pro drummers drop their sticks. besides technically professional musician mean playing music for living.. why do you think (most) drummers have a drumstick bag and stick holders? not just incase they break a stick its for when we drop sticks too!
oh, I know he didn't another guy said he deserved to win. so i was saying he didn't.
he drops his stick at 1:35
Seriously, people need to stop talking crap.
he looks like an alien
Well that's your opinion then :). And I never said I knew more than you or that you didn't know as much as me?
Well, even if some drummers can have a lot of musicality in their playing (and mostly in the context of a band playing a tune), the drums is not the most melodic and musical instrument outhere...i mean what do you expect from a drumming competition? people playing....what, how?
3:40 OMG moment
haha ya I know! im sure he is better then what i think and ill tell you right know i cant even play half the stuff he is playing ! so ya he is good just not great but he is also young so i would give him a 4 out of 5 stars :)
yeah, i agree with it...he is better than flood, but he lost cos of 2 lil mistakes
yeah i mean i have to give him props for recovering like that, he just kept playing. but ive never dropped a stick during a performance. why? because i play stuff that i know i wont mess up on. i think he was trying to be just a little bit too flashy. im not saying hes bad either. i can only dream of being that fast. but still. dropping a drum stick during a drum competition is just unprofessional...
I think he would've won if he hadn't dropped the stick at 1:36
well not to be nitpicky but he's 18 because thats the minimum age limit :P
snare?
Enoc Jordison orange County 13x7
Funciona i ou l koch
he just needs to show some pocket
He probably lost that year because he didn't play a lot of grooves. Most of it was just flashy fill licks.
thank you, that's what I said, I stopped watching it not long after it started, it started giving me a headache! Lol
@xSaMLoCx LOL, Next Top Model. This is better. What could be better than getting an endorsement from DW and other companies, and lots of money.
what is "too spastic"? I hate that kind of terminology. you're just saying "he's not conventional enough for me: too far outside-the-box" - and it scares you. of course he has chops but how can you say he doesn't have style too? it's just that you don't recognize talent if it's any different from how it's been fed to you for years.
this dude killed it check out my drum videos
It's showmanship maybe..
He didn't win...Jerome did.
enough*, not even
@locomotion17 yeah not better then jerome haha
Lol first of all I could barely understand what you were (trying) to say. I was never talking crap about this guy! One guy was saying that he deserved to win, and I replied that he didn't His solo was too much chops and not even beats. And of course, the stick drop. He has a lot of pauses in his solo too. I never said I was better. This guy is eons ahead of me. But his solo wasn't arranged perfectly. So please learn your facts before you speak next time.
so much flash...its what cost him the competition. sick shit though!
sure is a tiny little runt
@locomotion17 all im saying is 'I" didnt think he was that good. not really any beat and it looked like he didnt even count or keep a beat at all. you can think otherwise but im just stating whatn i think.
his technique was too sloppy for him to have won this year :o.
I guess he is okay. i just started learning drums (only has been half a year so far) but i didnt think he was that great! i learn that the less drums you have and the more you can do with less the better you are!! so to me i didnt think he was that good but hey! i guess he was okay!
He's kind of spastic, in my opinion. Nothing against him... just doesn't seem to be overall phrased very well.
Some of the best drummers in the world are not christian, nor are they black, or even American. You're making a spiteful, sweeping generalization. Your ignorance is astounding.
