  • The Houston Astros have dominated MLB since 2015, but are they still as dominant? Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, Yordan Alvarez, Kyle Tucker, Framber Valdez and Justin Verlander still lead this team, but are we starting to see cracks in the armor? In this video we'll look at what made the Houston Astros so dominant from 2015-22 and compare them to this 2023 team to answer the questions what do they still do well, where are we seeing them struggle more, and what does this mean for the team going forward?

    As a Astros fan, if the pitching continues to develop and the offense stays healthy. They should be good for another 3 years.

    Framber is a top 5 cy young candidate this year, he’s an ace, just a ground ball pitcher. Astros have also had at least 1 player finish in top 5 rookie of the year voting the past 5 seasons with a few winning it, and this year they could have 2-3 rookies finish in the top 5, top 7
    This team will be a contender for at least another 2-3 years. With the right front office moves and continued player development, they could push this era beyond a decade

    Your strikezone comment has left out one critical element, and this is what kills me and other baseball fans this and many seasons before. If it is a money fix or personal feeling issue, is where the man behind the plate can literally force a player to swing out of the zone because of how they have deemed the strike zone. Now you can dismiss it all you want, but how many low and outside or high and inside have you seen called for the second strike and then you have the hitter forced to swing at a slider clearly outside the zone because of the unknown size of blue's strike zone. Sure you want your hitter to stay in the wheelhouse, but that can't always be done.

      The box on the television is just for reference and not pinpoint. But if you have been watching baseball long enough you have a general idea of the strike zone. Those men behind the plate are being paid more money than kids at a fast food joint and everyone expects exceptional service from them, but please excuse the guys that are getting paid thousands to millions. Not me pal, The umpires are the anomaly in the game and can ruin any hitter or pitcher's game.

    It seems like the astros are resting on weak teams. Afterall they have played more baseball in nearly a decade then anyone in the league. This is a strange year for the astros. Imma be real here.. The metric on swings is a direct result of bad hitting coaches. Ive said it since 21. The astros were best at what??? Dialing in. Adaption. Thats why they are so bi polar. Weakness in coaching which has changed since 19. Great hitting? Poor hitting coaches imo. That metric imo changes their whole dynamic. Adjustment. Tbf that takes time but theres a weak link. Ive always said snitkers.. Since 21. But it kind of goes deeper then that. Brent strom left on pitching. Then jeeeez that pitching last year? League changing. Enter this year..... There is a blip in the matrix. Enough for a team to come up and knock em off. Only difference? Well... Its a generational team. A changing of the guard isnt just players. Its coaching. Time proved itself at pitching.... Astros still top of the league. But it hasnt proven itself at hitting.. Story is still being written.

    In my opinion the Astros are not the most disappointing team. I believe the Mets and Padres have covered that.
    But they have been disappointing to a certain extent. I mean I totally thought they would be winning the AL west. Kinda werid to see them battling it out for it right now.
    As far as dominance, it feels like the Braves and Dodgers are the two dominant teams right now in the MLB. Don't get me wrong. The Astros can jump right back into this conversation. But for right now, I don't think they are dominant like they were.
    Not hating and as a Braves fan I have respect for them.

    • @SmartrBaseball
      @SmartrBaseball  Рік тому +1

      I wouldn't even call them disappointing, but completely agree with your point that they've been running this division and even the AL for a couple years now, and this season they're fighting for a playoff spot. Braves are at the top and Dodgers have been up there for a bit now.

    • @robertday1598
      @robertday1598 Рік тому

      The Padres by a mile. Their farm is dry and their team has a huge payroll full of aging players. The Mets fixed that issue mid season and will be fine going forward, because they have a lot of young upcoming talent (position players) and IF they get some starting pitching like the Japanese pitchers that will be available and some innings eaters then they will compete for the WC spots next year. The Braves will dominate the division for at least 3 more years possibly even more than that, but the Marlins and young Mets will challenge them for sure. Phillies are getting old and the Nats have made some bad trades for their past talent like Soto.

    • @Raphmatic5000
      @Raphmatic5000 Рік тому +1

      Considering their payroll and lack of movement compared to the Mets, the Yankees have to be more disappointing. At least the Mets shed some salary and are trying to retool on the fly.

    Two words - Mike. Elias.
    You wondering where that dominant Houston team went? To Baltimore. You see, there's this team called the Orioles. They have the best record in the American League, playing in the toughest division in baseball, with big talent waiting in the minors, a small payroll, balanced roster, team chemistry and a bunch of young studs who arent getting the credit they deserve and are only getting better. You cant call the Orioles "dominant" yet...time will have to pass. But the Houston run has been replaced. It's our turn. Courtesy of - Mike Elias.
