    Looks like a simple design and easy enough to remember once you’ve done it. The worst I’ve done is a York 2 stage with the dual burners and single inducer. Must have been over 100 screws. The whole unit had to be disassembled. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and hope you keep en coming. You are deff one of my new favorites to watch

    I’ve been doing commercial hvac for 7 years almost 8 now and this guy is very thorough and actually explains things. Please if your new to hvac watch his videos. These guys that have been in the game for a while and are willing to share experience with you soak it up. Not everyone will get the chance I did. I rode with a 40 year veteran for 2.5 years. I learned things that I had no clue about I figure stuff out now and am like shit this guy thought me that my first year and I finally got to experience it. This trade needs guys that can work on this old stuff cause I’m 20 years who knows where hvac will be and maybe your that guy that can work on it all just like these guys. Not calling you old by any means but you are very knowledgeable and thorough thank you for these instructional videos I subscribed!!!

    Having a flame rollout on a trane commercial unit and noticed something in the inlet of each heat exchanger tube. Still searching for possible culprits but my eye was on whatever these things were as I’m unfamiliar with them. And now I can finally go to bed after searching for quite some time on what these things are defined as and what they do. Thank you for defining the turbulator!

    Just had a heating company quote $3500 to change the heat exchanger on one of our roof top units. Took a look at the unit, and it appeared to be a fairly straightforward job.
    After watching this, It's even easier than I first thought.

    Yes I have changed Trane YSC Ht EX. before and yes, with the shorter heat exchangers you have to relocate the support bar. Funny in the last one I did, the holes were already there from factory so no drilling was required👍 One tip I would add is they do recommend you just put a seam of silicone around the heat exchanger faceplate, just to stop any possible air leaks. Great video I really enjoyed it. Cheers from🇨🇦

    Terrific video! You not only replaced the heat exchanger, but most every other heating component (except the gas valve)! Heat exchanger I am replacing appears to be burned up, possibly due to high gas manifold pressure, so I appreciated your manometer check of that parameter. This particular furnace's gas valve may not have any pressure taps! If so, I will need to machine my own in the black steel pipe downstream of the gas valve... Scratch awl is VERY useful! I use one to line up screw holes too! The exchanger I will be replacing is on a Trane residential downflow furnace... Many of your details are helpful! RTV silicone seal around new heat exchanger makes sense, for example... Blocking supply duct while burning oil off the new exchanger makes sense too, and is feasible due to empty AC coil cabinet below furnace! THANKS SO MUCH FOR SHARING!!!!

    Very helpful and informative video. The amount of screws in these things are ridiculous. FYI for anyone who hasn't replaced one with short tubes before, besides relocating support rod and adding blower baffle, a new limit switch and orifice cover Is required. The orifice cover is usually included but the limit is not.The old limit Is not compatible with shorter tubes. Check instructions for model Info. Larger models need to be sealed with high temp caulk too .

    I watched this video prior to replacing a heat exchanger LOL and guess what happened. I took out the old heat exchanger and before putting the new one in I drilled holes 6 inches inward for the new support bar location. Them before putting the baffle under the blower, I decided to shove the new heat exchanger inside. As I was pushing in the new one it kept hitting the support rod before it was all the way in. They gave my the papers for the updated heat ex, it came with the baffle in the box... but I measured old and new heat exchangers and they were exact same length. Tell me how that happens lol .... I put back support rod in its original location. Didn't put in baffle because it was exact replacement.... I am confused why the counter guy even said I'd have some modification for my model unit. Anyways. Great video. Thanks again! Keep up the good work!

    I used worked at trane here in Lynn haven Florida making these units. This must be a really old unit as the units I built would have holes for both short and long versions for the heat exchangers. Also the whole heat exchanger blower assemble is so much easier to work on in the factory as its built off the base pan. As it is built at start of production I can see why it would be hard to replace in field. Yes the turbelators are a pain to avoid breaking them.

    • @HughesManHVAC
      @HughesManHVAC  4 роки тому +1

      I only had to drill one hole on the side closest to the filters, the other side had two holes for different length heat exchangers. These Trane exchangers aren't to bad. Thanks for watching!

    20:29 - You may have a limit on your channel as to length of videos; but, it would be nice if one of you guys shot an installation like this uncut and at normal speed. That way some of us newer techs could have a better answer for the customer when the unit will be back up than, “Sometime today,” or worse, underestimate with “a couple of hours.” I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I will expect some challenges; but, I’m now more comfortable replacing the rusted out heat exchanger I condemned a few weeks ago at a restaurant (Lennox RTU)
    26:31 - All customers have the potential of being a pain in the arsenic; but, don’t stink out the building, Guys. Not cool. I like that the other cover works there. Nice tip.
