This is now one of the most popular songs played at British (secular) funerals! This is the last scene in 'Life of Brian' (How did you miss the funniest movie of all time?)
You have to see the whole movie to appreciate the clip. This was also sung at the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics. The whole stadium sung and whistled along.
It was also sung by 28,000 Liverpool home fans behind the Home goal after they beat their arch-rivals Manchester United 2/0 thus depriving them of the league title on the last game of the season. At the end of the game, as they all left the stadium while the Away, Manchester fans were watching, they all put their arms on the shoulder of the guy next to them and turned to the left, and slowly strolled out of the stadium while singing this:)
When HMS Sheffield was hit during the Falklands War, and was sinking, the sailors gathered on the bow were singing `Always look on the Bright Side of Life`.
Hi, this was taken from the end credits of the Monty Python film The Life of Brian. It was played at my uncle's funeral (at his request) as we left the Crematorium and everyone left smiling.
This was actually the ending of the film 'Life Of Brian'. I mentioned on your last Monty Python reaction that a lot of their humour was based on surrealism and being strange, in this case it was that the film has a SHOCKINGLY dark ending (the main character is crucified and left for dead with nobody being willing to help him)... but they all start singing a jaunty little song about looking at the bright side of life, so it's all okay. Again, the joke itself was that you wouldn't expect this to be the next step the film took after that, going SO dark only to then become a full-blown musical number, with a bunch of condemned men in their final moments singing and whistling and tapping their feet together. It helps that Eric Idle (the main one singing) is a really talented songwriter, and wrote a TON of songs for Monty Python over the years, including 'The Galaxy Song', 'The Meaning Of Life', 'Christmas In Heaven' and many, many more. They're all worth a look sometime if you want more of this kind of musical comedy.
It is worth seeing the entire "Life of Brian" -movie. Amazing that the entire movie (actors and everything else) is made by those 6 people (The Monthy Python group) you see named in the end. Amusing is the stoning scene, where those 6 men play women dressed up as men! If I remember right, then what you saw is what happened just after the "Palestinian Suicide Squad" had come to rescue them.
That was the Judean Peoples Front lying on the ground. “Always look on the bright side” occurs right after a sequence of misunderstandings leading to Brian’s probable death!
Tysheen British humour is quite different to American humour , nobody would whistle of course but to see somebody doing it in such circumstances is of course ridiculous and that makes it funny.
This is actually the end of the movie "Life of Brian" by Monthy Python and not a music video. Ever since I saw the movie a long time ago, I get i a good mood when I here this song.
This is from the movie the life of Brian. Monty pythons group made the film it was financed by the Beatles George Harrison who had a cameo in the film. Harrison was a big fan of the pythons he went on to produce many other films after this.

There was a joke earlier in the film that lots of people get rescued. This was reprised for the 2012 olympic closing ceremony.
That scene is ending to the movie "Life of Brian". Eric Idle also performed a modified version of this song during the closing ceremonies of the 2012 Olympics. That is worth checking out. Look for them rolling out a cannon.
You have to watch the whole movie to get the concept. The best line ever written "life's a piece of shit, when you look at it". Watch the film, you will pee yourself.♥️
This is the closing scene of Monty Python's Life Of Brian. You could also check out one of Eric's other songs: The Galaxy Song, updated for Monty Python Almost Live (featuring Brian Cox and Stephen Hawkins). Check it out?

Talking about football, this song was played by a non league club I was supporting. At the time they were rock bottom of the league, no chance of surviving, and hadn't avoided defeat in at least 20 games. This was a regular song played at half time and before the match. It did make me smile!!
I love Python movies. In these days, it seems that they were made in a completely different world. And my favorite sentence comes from Monty: "My hovercraft is full of eels"
I used to be a Humanist officiant, and conducted many non-religious funerals. At my (crematorium) ceremonies, "Always look on the bright side of life" was a popular choice by bereaved families as the music for exiting the building after the end of proceedings.
brilliant song at the end of Monty Python's classic movie "Life of Brian" at the time, it was banned in the USA and several other countries (not here in liberal Netherlands). and to show you how much ahead in time they were...another clip from the same movie: ua-cam.com/video/chnlQQCsTVw/v-deo.html
Ah, I see you don't know about Monty Python or Life of Brian. Monthy Python was a British comedy group in the 1970s consisting of John Cleese, Eric Idle, Graham Chapman, Michael Palin, Terry Jones (a.k.a. the American one) and Terry Gilliam (a.k.a. the dead one). Starting in 1969 they had a weekly comedy show on the BBC called "Monty Python's Flying Circus" which featured a series of surreal sketches that defined British humor for over a decade. The series ended in 1974 and the troupe switched to making a series of movies including "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" in 1975 (a take-off of the Arthurian legend which also precisely described how to determine if a given woman is a witch) and -- probably most famous worldwide -- "Life of Brian" in 1979. Life of Brian is supposedly a comic telling of the life of Brian, a Jewish-Roman man living in Judea around the time of Jesus whose life has some parallels with that of Jesus. More accurately it may be described as "Monty Python gives Christianity a big fat finger". It's not a musical, Eric Idle's rendition of "Alway look on the bright side of life" is the only song in the movie. It's also the closing act and typical of what happens when you apply Monty Python's absurd humor to things like crucifixion. The movie is highly worth seeing, if only for the brilliant lesson in beginner's Latin by John Cleese. Oh, and BTW: the dead people you see on the ground very quickly are the result of a great blow struck against Roman occupation by the Judean People's Front (Suicide Squad).
One of the funniest scene of many in the film, the Christians are being paraded through the streets by the Romans carrying their heavy crosses to the crucifixion site , one good Samaritan offers to help 1 man carry his cross , the Christian then runs off in to the crowd leaving the good Samaritan holding the cross, a Roman soldier hurries him to get back in line and he ends up nailed to the cross instead
This the end of the Monty Python film called the Life of Brian; it takes a poke at irrational religious people. Some have this song played at their funeral.
When Life of Brian originally came out there were many religious people who described it as sacrilege because it was a comedy take on the life of Jesus Christ. However, if you watch it several times the true genius of it is that it is actually a very powerful religious message. The central joke is that 'Brian' is an ordinary man but becomes the Messiah accidentally and thousands of people want to follow him. The final song 'Always Look on the Bright Side of Life' is actually the powerful message that Jesus gave to others as he was dying on the cross because he is the saviour and will rise again. I am not religious but Monty Python were comedy geniuses and their satire was very powerful. This is by no means just a silly song at the end of a silly film.
oh dear..now that you have seen that...you have to actually see their two best movies atleast....life of brian...and holy grail...Oh and this has become the number one song played at funerals in england.
