I love SU but ALCORN played a more versatile list of songs for me. They grooved out!🔥 It was exciting to hear them and watch the dancers match their energy💜
SO LETS ALL BE HONEST WITH OURSELVES whether you a juke fan or boom fan ,both bands respect each other and look at each other as competition that’s why everybody always looking for the BOOMBOX classic .

Bruh … the second-hand embarrassment I felt as a Mississippian when Alcorn replied to SU’s Lauryn Hill with “Go Go, Power Rangers”…… I can’t. Who the hell made that call?? Only for SU to come back with “Rain.” I had to exit the video after that. 😅 Only JSU should be allowed to go up against SU at this point. Alcorn and Valley can battle Grambling. (And I was Valley Scream Machine 2005-2007 😅)
Don’t get me wrong, it sounded good. But that wasn’t the time for it. That’s like a musician not being able to flow and recognize atmosphere. “Read the room.”

I agree with the song selection point but I don't think we should act like southern has had some unstoppable season lol.. they have had better years ..
That actually was fire and it gave them that round....Alcorn did a damn good job better then alot of other Bands
I was disappointed in this battle. The song selection was horrible on the SU side. Alcorn's arrangements were much better. GG’s killed it as usual.
Damn shame what Taylor and his directors have done to the almighty “S”. It’s been all down hill ever since the departure of B and Haymer & if you think otherwise, you obviously don’t know your history. They have turned the signature “S” sound into a country ass Alabama mass band sound that depends on euphos & tubas. All rap tunes, no real music. The “S” was known for innovation. You’d here songs like “Dancing to the rhythm”, “I remember” etc etc and wonder “How the hell did they think to play this!!??”....Nowadays, you can’t even recognize the arrangement. And fellow jukes are sitting back watching it happen because everyone is afraid to keep it real. Unbelievable smfh.

Exactly! "S" was high brass driven with innovative arrangements. Tubas were known for the jazzy guitar sound and low brass was just supportive. This isn't Southern. They have a identity problem big time. Simmons made them boys step up to match his arrangements. Now they really are a big NOASB.
SU should have just have the trombones do the melody on "Ex-Factor."
SU won this, they don’t have to crank all the time to get their point across. They have versatility in their sound and Dynamics which makes me personally very interested in the song. I believe Alcorn would sound much better if they’d focus more on quality than volume.

They have 40-50 trumpets. Not 70. They had 70 in 2018. As a matter of fact JSU got more trumpets than SU this year lmao

SU needs to put bands back in the far left corner again. The acoustics are terrible for BOTH bands with this current seating. You can't appreciate the floor of the sound from either band anymore. Bass drums have no thump, tubas either, the lower register of the bands sounds thin. All we're hearing is upper register from both bands. It's depleting the funk out of the bands. Not giving us a cohesive sound from either one.

Maybe, SU is saving the best music of the BOOM BOX classic. The selections for SU really wasn't that bad. And as far as the upper register, someone has to carry the melody. Ijs.

@@dayvonsavage315 the camera position is on the left side of them when it used to be on the right and would capture more of the bottom in their sound. The sound is escaping the stadium on that left side

Alcorm didn’t do Cruel summer any justice. I risk another band ( JSU, SU ) played one of my favorite songs before them.

Su has been mid since B.Simmons left. They still sound good but the intensity that was there while he was there is slowly fading. Just my opinion on it. Better be ready for the Boom though.

Su took the week off in the 5th.. but the zero said it all. Alcorn showed up.. did what they do.. sounded pretty good too.. but we know what happened here.. no doubt. Mellos .. straight 🔥.. trumpets cleaned up well.. woodwinds were phenomenal.. tubas... loud af! And the euphs.. jezus khrist!!! Shout out to the dolls for the uniform change.. the white was nice but the blue was beautiful!
Alcorn ate........ Alcorn with the "W". Southern had many flaws that was easily covered over, but we all know. Both bands sounded great. Alcorn had it all tho.

I will say the best thing about this 5th we’re the Golden Girls. The bands on both sides were meh. I didn’t like SU’s choices of songs Alcorn had the energy but something was missing. Can’t quite put my finger on it.
Very shaky 5th…… alcorn is having execution issues and most importantly identity issues. SU is having phrasing issues with the upper brass but imo SU slick is turning into a heavy low brass band and I don’t like it. They sound much better as a upper brass band

I hate when people bring a whole different band into a video. Southern fans do it to every band video and right after that it’s Jackson state. This battle was mid from song selection stand point both bands had poor song selection the 0 was better than the battle itself you’d think that the 5th was gonna be crazy but no it was a boring moment. Nobody really got this 5th it’s not even anything memorable.
