i dont rlly understand people being turned off about it not trying to be garrys mod 2, because the developers who will be normal players making content will 100% be recreating source maps, garrys mod gamemodes like darkrp, ttt, all that in s&box
Precisely. A lot of people are fans of gmod and the source games and I get that but it's not gonna stop folks either from making and adding it into the game so yeh
It's because this platform/game is far more complex to mod than gmod already is. You also have to take into account how the game/platform is going to be presented for the player/developer accordingly, how easy it is mod, host servers/games, how limiting the engine is, and many other reasons. It is difficult, presenting a treat for both players and developers alike is a humongous task, keeping both happy is tough.
Also, if FacePunch decides to help teach players modding trough tutorials like they did for a brief period on the Gmod wiki, that would be awesome, it could rake in potential new addon developers...
Now is the best time for all the devs to rip it apart, disect it and possibly make videos on it so everyone can get going! definitely excited to see what's gonna come of the new system.

I think roblox would be the closest comparison to S&box that we have rn probably, and even then it's not really the same thing, i think what stands out for S&box is that it's barely a game, but even as a platform is still is a solid hub for projects and whole games made by the community and it just offers so much more than other games in the same genre, roblox follows the same direction, being only a platform to host other people's projects, and although Roblox has seen some really really high-effort projects, they're extremely rare because of how limiting the editor and engine is at it's core, same thing with fortnite, except fortnite started as it's own thing, it is a proper game, and although it does host now projects from other people, the editor and tools are just not up to par with what S&box and even Roblox offers.. S&box is just a WHOLE engine's worth of possibilities, and facepunch are just enabling people to do whatever they want with it by polishing and making tools for developers and players to enjoy everrything source 2 has to offer.
I wouldn't worry too much about that since a lot has changed. Basically once they finish up the new system for the editor I wouldn't be surprised if they open up the flood gates again. Once they do so I'll be giving out keys for folks and post an update video as well.

The version of Source 2 filmmaker that's in s&box is going to be modified redone and reworked just like most of the other tools. Facepunch has mentioned how powerful it is as a tool as they stated in a blog post on their site. Obviously as a creative myself it makes sense to see it this way. As it was mentioned in this game. It'll probably be along the lines of being able to drag and drop assets, maps and sounds that comes through their asset.party system into S2FM just like you can download models and such off of the steam workshop but quicker and inside of s&box's editor. This will actually be insane for games and development teams that can create backgrounds, intros, videos and even images to use not only within s&box but outside of it too (take my thumbnails and content videos for example). I'm hoping they swing it out of the park with this one but i'd definitely keep an eye on it. Probably is gonna be on the back burner till other stuff is done but they're wanting to work on it for the future. Hope this helps.
Well, it has TF2: S2 already which is already incredibly promising. I still love Roblox tho. EDIT: 4:30 - I think it's worth mentioning that S2 is also very capable of VR, which will help it rival against Roblox.
I wish this game gets the same recognition and love gmod got. Gmod runs on an old engine, and from my recent experiences, it has a lot of limitations. From graphics, models, and physics, and I want to see the potential of this new engine, I wanna see how far you can push this engine. As for Rust, it's pretty much the same limitations, especially when it comes to hosting and maintaining your own server, cause it's an absolute cancer. Rust had some interesting stuff up in its sleeves, but people were just busy raiding or being raided and didn't have the chance to see what Rust could do. These past years has been awful for games, even tho the up coming years seem to be poggers for gaming, there is still a massive chance of everything going down hill, so I'll wish you gamers a great year, with s&box absolutely blowing up, gta 6 actually coming out in 2025 and not end up as some kind of extension or another dlc update for gta 5, and most important of all, some news on half life 3, that's all I wish you all, happy new year. Too little too late, that's my guess. Why play this game, which still isn't out, if you could play other stuff like Roblox or just Gmod right now. The argument is that S&box will be way better than Gmod, due to S2 and people being able to make less shooter-centric mods and modes. But the question is, do people genuinely want that? Is there an audience and are there people willing to even create those things in the first place? Why would anyone, players or devs, move away from the established platforms for these things, again Roblox and Gmod (but also other games) to have less content and more difficulty (initially) creating things. It doesn't make sense. It's essentially an unwanted sequel. People would likely die for Gmod2, basically just Gmod but with actually decent performance and less limitations, but this isn't Gmod2. It's a game that'll likely bomb on release and even 5 years later won't have anywhere near the numbers that Gmod has right now, let alone the numbers seen in Roblox.
