- BLINKS! We ended up watching this whole thing in one sitting, which was new for us... so many cool moments, let us know what you think about our responses and questions. So great to get to know more about BP and Blinks and the relationship between you both.

Being a BlackPink fan requires tons of patience. In three years since their debut, their company YG had managed to give the fans just 13 BlackPink songs during that stretch. While every group including two in their own company have released far many more. Yet, despite YG's lack of commitment and with only 13 songs, BlackPink was still able to explode in popularity. From Coachella to their world tour. They have accomplished so much with so little. Critics (haters) believe BlackPink aren't worthy of the hype because other groups have sold far more albums and have garnered far more awards. I have one question in response. How much could their group accomplish if they too had just 13 songs?

The part you're missing is that : they are the best trainees who survived and made the final line up of the group which had originally 10+ members.....So no....The group wouldn't be the same with any 4 beautiful girls....

@@dianalily3901 Every time you respond, your stupidity is inescapable. You can't be a BlackPink fan when you insist that any four girls could accomplish the same. And it is very common for most agencies to have total control over their idols. Why is it a big deal with BlackPink? Why should that be a reason not to appreciate their accomplishments? Kpop contracts for trainees are notoriously restrictive. The agencies often times are spending million to train wannabe idols. Its a risky investment for them and its a demanding endeavor for the trainees.

I personally believe that blink fandom is one of the most loyal fandom in the world. I mean even with the bare minimum of content, they still manage to stick together with these girls. Not everyone can do it

South Korea has several weekly musical shows that give out weekly awards to the song with the most points(views+album+downloads, etc). It'd be as if Ryan Seacrest, Billboard, and UA-cam each were handing out awards every week for the most popular song. It's more of a fan award than anything else. Keep in mind that BlackPink is more of a global act than a Kpop act. Worldwide they're the biggest Kpop girl group. But in Korea, there are others that are more popular. South Korea tend to favor the more cutesy and girly type of acts. Generally speaking of course.
It's not that they favor other kpop groups more. The problem is amongst the biggest kpop acts, Blackpink is the only group who don't release music as often. They don't go to variety shows or dramas. There are thousands of kpop idols in South Korea. And hundreds of kpop groups are always releasing contents, joining variety shows, and doing comebacks 2-4x in a year. We should not forget that each time Blackpink releases music, they always beat records locally and globally. Their company is just holding them back so much so that Koreans feel like they can not connect with them. Only real Blinks have this unconditional bond.
Jennie trained for the longest, she joined in 2010 when she was 14. Lisa and Jisoo joined in 2011 when Lisa was 14 and Jisoo was 15, then Rosé in 2012 when she was 15/16
Yes, a comeback is basically everytime an artist releases a new song or album, and BlackPink didn't release a song in a year wich is rare for most kpop artists.

Love this reaction! One of the things I love most about Blackpink is how genuine they are with their fans. They don't do livestreams very often (for good reasons as the internet can sometimes be a very toxic place) but when they do (normally on the vlive app), they talk to Blinks as if they are communicating with close friends . Jisoo is especially good at communicating with fans and really has a gift for making fans feel happy, important and loved just through her interactions with Blinks whether online or in person. I always watch Blackpink vlives and other videos after a long day because the girls never fail to put a smile on my face (and they can get very goofy ;D).
I've been a BLINK since one month after they debuted. I'm a Grown-Ass man, living in New York, never knew a thing about K-Pop until I saw a tiny article about BLACKPINK in Entertainment Weekly. I've been addicted ever since. BLINKS are loyal because we saw how sweet, talented and down-to-earth the girls were, how long we both waited as their company prolonged their comebacks, and how good their content was. I saw the Newark, NJ show this past May, I was standing, smooshed up front, and had the best time of my life. But not only because of the girls, because you could literally feel the love in that room, for the girls and for each other, because we all knew what they (and we) have gone through to bring us to that day. BLINKS are used to waiting, because we know that everything good is worth waiting for. (but that doesn't mean we like it!)

2017 - 1 single followed by one year hiatus
2018 - mini album with four songs (ddu-du-ddu-du)
2019 - mini album with four songs (kill this love)
Those are music shows, a comeback it's basically when a korean artist release new music so they perform in those music shows for the first time, they promote the song there and it ranks the most popular songs of every week ... blackpink got the 1st place whit their debut song.

That’s the thing with Papa YG (ex CEO of YG entertainment) He’s literally a perfectionist & for him to bring these 4 girls together still amazes me. He decided to not choose a leader coz he saw how well these girls bonded & they’d be able to share the responsibilities.

I've been a Blink since the end of 2018 (the release of SOLO). Sadly I didn't know they existed before that, never seen or heard anything about kpop at all actually. BLACKPINK changed my life.

Yay! So happy you guys reacted to this. So in Korea they do music competition shows weekly to showcase artists and promote their new music. When they first debuted it was so anticipated that they won right away which isn’t that common for a new group. As rookies in 2016, they killed it. Also, in Korea public bathhouses (spas) are normal so Jennie jokingly said naked buddies referring to when Jisoo and her first met and discussed their dreams of debuting in a hot tub. Thanks for your reaction to this, I always appreciate the sincerity and respect you show in your videos. Hope this video helped you get to know them better!

I started as a JENNIE fan when she was introduced as the company's trainee and a video of her rapping was released. That was in 2012! She was training for around 2 years alreasy back then..

Okay here's goes; As to being trainees Jennie 5 yrs 11 months; Lisa and Jisoo 5yrs 1 month and Rose' 4 yrs. They debuted August 2016. Part of what took so long was YG could not decide what kind girl group they wanted. Started at 9 members, got down to 5 members, then one got caught dating, so she was out so it became 4. Oh and they almost were named Pink Punk! A lot of the clips in this are from Blackpink House a reality TV show. The English dialogue is mainly from the Zach Sang interview (You know the I keep NAGGING you about). The "naked buddies" is from the Asian cultural of communal bathing with family and friends, they soak in hot tubs and talk/visit. No, they won't do with you. The clips with their Blinks are post-concert where they meet and greet the Blinks, all you need is an expensive VIP pass. They are the biggest/most popular Kpop Girl group in the world, but BTS is bigger with more fans (the Army).
When you react to their videos, check the number of views especially DDU DU DDU, it tells their popularity.

In answer to your question about the music awards shows. In South Korea they have weekly Music Shows on TV (one such show is called Music Bank, plus there are others) Where the various South Korean groups will perform their new song live on the show and audience and/or tv viewers will vote for their favourite song for that week. They also have the usual televised annual music award shows as well. Finally just quickly a Comeback = release of new music by an individual artist or group (usually a new single).

What's good about blackpink is that they treat their fans not just a typical fanbase or of what they call it 'fandom' but when you start to like blackpink you become part of their family and sisterhood. welcome to the family, brothers! Just an FYI and to clarify, after BLACKPINK debuted, first with 2 songs in August 2016 then another 2 at the end of October, they only dropped ONE song 7 months later. That one song, "AS IF IT'S YOUR LAST" was a huge, record-setting hit and they won awards again, just for having that one song. After that it was ONE YEAR before they dropped four songs, then TEN months before they dropped another four. That was six months ago.

I’ve been a blink for around just over one year now, I went to their concert when they came to Melbourne. They’re the first ever girl kpop group I had listened to & fell in love with their music and their personalities instantly!
I stumble upon BP at the beginning of July this year and I’ve been a Blink ever since. Couldn’t imagine myself fall in love with a girl group at this level. BLACKPINK is the revolution!

The shows where the won 1st place is called inkigayo and basically it’s a show to promote your new song or debut song and you promote for about a 2-3weeks and then fans vote which song/performance was their favorite so winning 1st place is a pretty big deal if you’re from a small company or if you just debuted bc it means that you’re getting attention and that people like your music.
Training for 4-6 years is normal in kpop group as they start being trainee in a young age 14-15 years old. Some i knew a member from another well known group red velvet Seulgi being a trainee for 9 years

The YG motto is Quality over Quantity......so as a result they've put out far less than other groups......but all of thier songs are bangers, and that goes a long way.
As a blink that found them after they debut but before the fandom was name , and by random luck ......i finally clicked on Jennie bubblegum thumbnail for boombaya after hesitating for two weeks lol. Life changing as far as music , they revitalized my love of music. And brought kpop into my world , opening up the doors to BBang , IKon Winner, Twice , Red Velvet and so much more.
I’m now a multi, a stan of multiple groups, but always a Blink first. Yes Blinks and the Girls are bonded together tightly because they have shared with us more than just thier music ......they've shared their dreams , dissappointments and struggles, but also success and triumphs. Its a journey that we are experiencing , vicariously, and its been trying st times. The hardest , most trying period was the long time off before 4D.
Jennie was visibly not feeling having to perform the same songs , and was so afraid that we would abandon them that she went on vlive and pleaded with us not to , the “ don't give up “ part , it was the most genuine look into her and the groups worries that was truly heartrenching.......i and i can say most blinks who experienced that became more resolved to support and protect them. We understand they are not in full control of their
Career yet. Now having gone thru these trying times with blinks , yes they know our bond is strong.

Just to let you know, in Korea, they have many, many live voting music ..... thing... (sort of like a showcase every week and there's a lot) also, there's a whole bunch of concerts big and small. From college event (concert), military visiting concerts, many music award shows. When they are in trainee periods, there's so many things to do changing members every time, everyweek. Once they overcome and endures all of those all those tasks/assignments, then you start to be in a group to be debute sometime in the future.
Bts, blackpink went through all of that process and all the other groups and solo artists went through all of that task and overcame though hard and brutal tasks.
The clips that you see with the numbers that was voted and with the confetti and announcing the winner of that week, it's live from the people who are there in person and also people who's watching at home by text message. Also, in Korea they have a public bathtubs called 'mok-yoke-tang' and you get butt naked there (ofcourse men and women separately (just like the bathrooms that you go to that has men's room and women)) in that public bath facilities, there's two huge tubs one, filled with cold water, the other with the hot water. Going there and sit in that tub talking about things, then you get a feeling that you got close to one another ( ofcourse that doesn't mean that it goes for everyone who goes them public bath tubs). (Ofcourse not all of them do butt naked things...)

The girls trained Seven days a week, Twelve hours a day, with only One day off every two weeks. Normal K-Pop training lasts Two to Four years before a debut, theirs lasted Six years. No wonder they were nervous, that could really mess with your head, especially since two of the girls left their family and country for a different culture when they were young teenagers.
Oh!, and what 'come back' means is when they come out with new songs to perform or play
I have been a Blink even before they debuted. Like more than 3 years ago. I have waited for their debut alongside with them.
Those scores you see them winning are from weekly music shows. Each tv channel has their own music show. Singers go to the show to perform when they have new song out. Singer with highest score will win. Each channel has different criterias. Some prefer digital chart to be counted more. Some look at physical album sales. For these groups, winning music shows is an achievement and Blackpink won almost every single time. They only took few days to win, in fact, at that time they were the fastest to win one.
"Comeback" in kpop scene is different. It just means to have a new single/album out. For kpop groups, they usually take 3-4 months to comeback. Especially faster when they are still new but Blackpink had a one year hiatus right after they debuted. So far, after 3 years, they only had mini albums and 13 songs while their counterparts have like 30-50 songs already. So in that context, it is a really tough situation for them. They are lucky to be a ble to maintain their status while on hiatus. Not many groups can do that. But it all thanks to their strong discography. Like they might not have been always out there but every time they came out with something, they go with a Bam!
The kpop scene is different from the western or even the culture from many other parts of the world so you or other might not understand why it has been an emotional journey for them. But it was really tough for Blackpink.

One of the words is 'naega'that means "I am". You can see it is such a common ohrase so basically you gonna hear a lot of it in songs and daily conversation. Example would be Lisa's rap in Whistle.

Actually Blackpink was expected to debut with a different name anytime around2012 - 2013 but it got pushed back many times due to so many internal issues. Jennie joined YG Ent as a trainee in August 2010. Lisa passed YG audition in Thailand in 2010 and went to Korea in 2011.She's the only artist of YG Ent without Korean blood. Jisoo was scouted in July 2011. And Rosie passed the Audition in Australia and flew to Korea in May 2012. She was the only one accepted in that region.
"comeback" is when your idol come back again with the new song from their previous song. It takes a long long time to wait your idol comeback with a new song. Maybe twice a year or once a year. its uncertain

Most kpop groups have to go through an average training period of 5 years. Some even train for longer like 10 years and it’s not easy at all. Most of them get into there at an young teenage age, while being in there they will have to diet to fit the ideal body type in korea, sing,rap,dance and get frequently controlled by their companies on what they should do and when they can do something. The most cruel thing is that some even have to go through an plastic surgery process, cause their companies aren’t happy with the way that they look and since korea has an pretty strict beauty standard. It’s very hard to get accepted in a group or even the company, if you don’t match the way that they expect you to look like.
